623  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: illegal and humiliating video verification in Rollbit.com on: November 10, 2023, 03:23:47 PM
I have to admit, after reading all of this, I find this quite disturbing. I didn't know that Rollbit was one of "those" platforms.

@Rollbit Razer, I was hoping for reassurance from Rollbit casino that overly invasive verification isn't gonna become the norm.  That you recognize the privacy concerns and will work to address them.  This response though just doesn't provide that kind of reassurance in my opinion.  It comes across more as trying to justify excessive security measures rather than recognizing the valid concerns being raised.

We always refund users who are unable to complete verification steps.

There is one question, though. Is this sort of verification check a normal thing you do whenever someone deposits substantial amount into Rollbit, or do you just happen to do it right before someone tries to withdraw to their personal wallet? Because, you know, there's a world of difference between the two scenarios.
624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to LN BTC without conversion on: November 10, 2023, 09:56:17 AM
Suppose, a wallet has 1 BTC then he'd be having 1 BTC on original network and 1 BTC on Lightning network as well. When user spends from either, balance will be deducted simultaneously from both networks, so original amount remains same. No conversion involved.

Non-custodial Bitcoin wallets don't actually store a balance.  There's no ledger inside the wallet keeping track of how much bitcoin you have.  Instead, your wallet calculates the balance by looking at the blockchain and adding up all the Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs) associated with your wallet addresses.   So you can't just deduct some bitcoin from your wallet balance without making an on-chain transaction to spend some UTXOs.  The balance is just a calculation, not a real thing stored in the wallet itself and  to spend bitcoin, your wallet has to create a transaction sending some UTXOs to a new address on the blockchain.

if some one should have the supposed 1 bitcoin in his or her wallet, and open a LN which I believe should be connected to the same wallet, the balance from appears as the same, and which ever network the individual decides to spend his or her bitcoin from, the transaction will be recorded on both networks, which will also make both balance reflects accordingly.

No. That's not how the Lightning Network works.
625  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: About 3Aex Platform on: November 10, 2023, 09:43:02 AM
I did some googling and couldn't find much info on this 3A Exchange besides a couple sponsored articles on some obscure news sites.  Their website 3Aex(dot)com doesn't seem to have any old history either so I'm not sure if they were ever seriously operating.  OP, are you sure this is where you transferred money? Just curious why would you send funds there without double checking if it was legit?  Especially if they don't have much of an online footprint or reputation.

I know this doesn't help you to get your money back, but just something to think about for next time.

<snip>
of course, if your btc remains to be btc, it is still not money. but once you convert it to fiat, that's when you will appreciate its actual fiat value.

That's not correct! So, if I offer you a certain amount of bitcoins in exchange for a product or service that you offer, you wouldn't accept it? Doesn't Stake casino pay you in bitcoin to promote them here? So how can you say that bitcoin does not serve as money for you?

I don't have to exchange it for fiat to recognize its actual value. I can use it to pay for products/services, just like fiat currency. In most cases, it's even more practical.

Does this happen a lot?
Yeah, it happens a lot especially in Altcoins board.

Yeah, we can't overlook the Gambling board either.  And in the Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners & Help boards too...  This issue pops up all over the forum all the time.  Some folks don't seem to think reading other people's posts is worth their time. Especially when they're trying to squeeze in 50-60 posts a week for their sig. campaigns.
629  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Jesmo li pronašli Fxsurfera& Antikvarka? on: November 09, 2023, 07:57:02 AM
Opet mala šetnja u off topic ali šta ćeš, neću sigurno otvarati novu temu zbog dvije rečenice koju želim dodati.

Wink
630  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Display Blocktime additionally with the created posts on: November 08, 2023, 08:41:37 AM
I'm not really sure how blockchain data would help here.  The way I see it, every post already shows the exact time it was made, even if someone goes back and edits it later and  that original timestamp doesn't change.  So I don't really get what would the last block number actually prove that we don't already know from the existing timestamps? I just feel like it wouldn't add anything useful.  But hey maybe I'm missing something.

Could you please advise the delay or why it hasn't moved?

A few days ago, another user had a similar problem with this mixer. The transaction from the mixer side was created with a low fee, so it took some time to confirm. Maybe it's the same in your case?

Can you see the incoming transaction in your wallet? Even if it's unconfirmed, you should still have a transaction to the address where you requested mixed coins.
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Simple Reason Why Bitcoin is not Money on: November 08, 2023, 08:13:20 AM
Hahaha. Invisible thing serves an aesthetic purpose. Wow. That's new. I've heard a lot of stupidity from crypto bros but this takes the cake. You people need to seek professional help.

You walked  right into that, didn't you? Hahahaha!

Visual aesthetic is quite common, but yes, invisible things can serve an aesthetic purpose as well.  Music is a perfect example - you listen to it, not look at it. But even abstract concepts and ideas, like math for example, can be aesthetically pleasing if it's elegant and well-structured.

As for calling you stupid, I wouldn't go that way.  You just seem like you don't know a lot about this topic. I'm always trying to educate myself more on things I don't understand well. You should try it.

I see you're doubling down on stupidity. Aesthetics is related to senses. You must see, hear, smell, or touch something to be able to talk about aesthetics.

Oh, so now you're finally catching on that invisible things can serve an aesthetic purpose? Well, I appreciate your newfound common sense. Maybe next time, you'll actually think before you speak.  Wink

Invisible virtual points that some protocol attributed to online addresses have nothing to do with aesthetics. They are just records of participation in an investment pyramid where you pay in purposeful items and then wait for new contributors to get such items back. It's not stupid to join that - it's just greed or ignorance. But claiming that records of participation in it serve aesthetic purpose is the stupidity at its best.

Well, I know a bunch of people who would disagree with that. Aesthetics is not only about what you can feel with your senses.  For many people, aesthetics can be about the elegance of the design, the technology or even digital assets.  For example, mathematicians and physicists often think some theorems and definitions are beautiful or elegant, attaching importance to the aesthetics of their work (ref: Mathematical beauty).

"A mathematician, like a painter or a poet, is a maker of patterns." - G.H. Hardy

And, in the world of technology, Steve Jobs famously stated, "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."

So just because something doesn't fit your personal view of aesthetics doesn't mean it's not artistic or good design for other people.  Aesthetics are subjective, you know?  What one person finds beautiful or elegant, someone else might think is whack.
633  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: For Newbies Interested in Gambling on: November 07, 2023, 01:29:58 PM
Being patient and consistently involved in healthy gambling habits will surely make you a successful gambler.

Having patience and sticking to healthy gambling habits can make for a more controlled, maybe even satisfying, gambling experience.  But it depends on what you want to get out of it.  Just remember - being successful at gambling doesn't automatically mean you'll make money. There's always risk involved when you gamble, and the house tends to have better odds than you.

Also don't get discouraged if variance comes in and you have a losing day, week, month, etc. Value is value and it will catch up.

What do you mean by 'value will catch up'? Could you elaborate on that?

635  Economy / Economics / Re: New business idea. on: November 06, 2023, 04:39:10 PM
Groundnut oil production might work as a business idea in some parts of the world, but you gotta think about a few things first.  Whether you can actually get the peanuts to make the oil in the first place.  Peanuts grow okay in different climates, but I think they like warm, tropical regions the most. So it can get tricky finding enough raw peanuts in places where they aren't grown much.  Not to mention more expensive.  But where peanuts are all over the place already the business could make good money.

So while making groundnut oil could maybe work out, you really gotta check if the climate and weather conditions, and thus the availability of peanuts raw material, where you live make sense before jumping in.

638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Simple Reason Why Bitcoin is not Money on: November 05, 2023, 10:20:13 PM
If stuff just exists cuz people like how it looks then that stuff has aesthetic purpose. It creates a specific amount of benefit and one can estimate that benefit with benefits provided by other products to exchange stuff rationally.

Yes, that's it!  Bitcoin serves an aesthetic purpose, at least for me – can't speak for everyone else. It's all about finding beauty in those numbers. Glad we got that sorted out!

It hilarious how you managed to create the whole religion from that pyramid.

Hey there! Mocking someone's religion ain't cool. It's basically a form of religious discrimination.
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Simple Reason Why Bitcoin is not Money on: November 05, 2023, 10:34:42 AM
<dung>

So, you think all things got to have some official purpose?  Nah, I don't think so! Sometimes stuff just exists cuz people like how it looks or it's fun or whatever and  the whole idea of purpose is kinda subjective anyway and means different stuff to different folks.  When you look at the big picture of life and everything, some say trying to figure out your purpose is a basic human thing to do, but that doesn't mean every single thing in the universe has got to have a cosmic purpose or whatever.  I mean, take a pretty waterfall for example.  Its just water going over some rocks - doesn't really do anything.  But people enjoy looking at it and hearing the sound of water.  It exists for its own sake.  Or dancing - it don't accomplish anything concrete necessarily but people do it cuz it's fun and it feels good.  Life is messy and complicated like that.

The same goes for Bitcoin.  Who's to say it must serve some grand purpose? Perhaps we're just here for the joy of watching those pretty numbers dance on our screens.  Cheesy
640  Other / Meta / Re: Services board is very hard to browse on: November 05, 2023, 10:11:21 AM
You have failed to understand that it is even because of the presence of signature campaign services that the poor people's advert (according to you) is seen or noticed. If a separate board is created for signature campaigns, definitely no one or a few will visit the board of poor people's services.

You have failed to understand that the Services board was not originally created specifically for signature and bounty campaigns; they came much, much later. I don't deny that bounty campaigns are a form of Bitcoin-related services, but claiming that such a campaign is more important or popular than some other "poor people's" service is pure speculation. Do you have some metrics or stats to support such a statement?

Exchanges, Mixers use the Service Announcements section but freelancing jobs should be in Services itself.

"Exchanges" and "Web Wallets" have their own child boards under the "Service Discussion", why do you think campaigns can't have the same under the "Services" board?
