622  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice business investment paying bitcoin on: April 25, 2017, 07:14:52 PM
I'm currently considering making a investment that requires bitcoin as payment of around 15K and looking for any advice.
I've tried searching search engines with no success.
Anyone know if there are smart contracts or any type of receipt or anything else I should request or anything else to cover my investment?
Or, no luck and it's a big risk.
Any advice would be much appreciated

The blockchain holds a record of all payments so you will have evidence that you sent the coins to the other party.

However, you have no guarantee that the other party will hold up their end of the deal. I'm not sure what type of "investment" you are planning on doing but I would be careful and make sure you do your research to avoid getting scammed.
623  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum support HD-wallets? on: April 25, 2017, 05:19:15 PM
I have heard a lot about Electrum-wallet, but have never used it. I have few question regarding Electrum mind, does electrum have following properties?
  • Is Electrum open source?
  • Does electrum support Hd_wallet
  • Does elctrum support Restest or Test Network?
  • Is Electrum MultiSig?
Is there any other wallet that has above features? I think copay has all features but I am not sure about electrum.

  • Yes, Electrum is open source: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum
  • As of Electrum 2.7.16, it looks like it supports testnet
    Quote
    # Release 2.7.16
      * add Testnet support (fix #541)
  • Electrum supports MultiSig wallets.
624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Windows wallet: compile under UNIX or Windows? on: April 25, 2017, 01:30:57 PM
Compiling on Windows is definitely a pain and also requires a ton of extra packages installed that I wouldn't need on my system. Compiling in a VM does sound like a preferable approach. Hadn't head of gitian before but it does look like it would be a pretty good method once you get it set up. Their site even provided a sample Bitcoin build process which is pretty neat.
625  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITDICE CASINO - GET YOUR CUT FROM DAILY TREASURE CHEST! on: April 25, 2017, 01:25:51 PM
Casinos are meant to profit high to the authorities rather than the users. In such a way several gambling websites have lost their reputation and got vanished. In recent days such issues were never felt on casinos, because every website provides with an average winning chance to the users.
I don't see the point why one must operate a casino if the authorities will just have a big share of their profits, it should be the owner who is making much money and it is clearly known to all of us that most of the users are losers since sites are profitable.

Bitdice provides us a good chance to enjoy because they have a great promotion which gives more fun to the gamblers or users as you call it.

Yeah, there are a lot of promotions and a lot is given back to the players in the form of bet back, loss back, and the other promotions. It is a gambling site so you can expect to lose in the long run due to the house edge, but you should at least be having some fun and with the promotions in place it effectively lowers the house edge a little bit.
626  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit.com -- The Social Gambling Game on: April 25, 2017, 01:22:46 PM
Is there still a faucet on the site, I can't find it anywhere.
The faucet has been removed since long time ago due to it got abused.

Quote
And I used to be able to auto bet but I can't seem to find the button?
? You can find it easily beside "Manual " button

I still don't understand how people abused a faucet ? It gave out such a tiny amount how much could they possibly have gotten away with ? I don't understand that. Now people who just want to okay for fun must deposit all the time.
It was probably taken down due to being abused by people who created multiple accounts just for the purpose of using the free faucet.
I trust bustabit, but is a pity there no have faucet. the multiple a/c issue is every casino have.
I log less on bustabit but i see people do x1.1, they can profit?
I not confirm my strategy yet.

Faucets are really only meant to give you a feel of the game anyway. It is a gambling site so you should expect to use your own BTC for a chance to win big.

You can profit on any multiplier with a little bit of luck Tongue It all depends on the outcome of the games you decide to join, but there is not fool proof way to always win and you can expect to lose in the long run without some luck.
627  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit.com -- The Social Gambling Game on: April 24, 2017, 02:43:19 PM
When they are concerned about a potential phishing attempt, they should use their poison password to protect themselves.

No, the poison password would be for when you know 100% someone it is trying to phish your password. e.g. if someone links you to the scam site bustabit.tk it might be obvious to you that they're trying to steal your password. So instead of just closing the tab, you'd give them a poison password. Then when they go to use the poison password to try in, bustabit would know that they are scammers, and silently lock their ip from future attempts.

Poison passwords are an interesting idea. It would be a pain to deal with if some legitimate user accidentally uses their poison password though haha.

I guess you would still be giving away your username to the phishing sites though, but I guess usernames are public knowledge so that isn't really an issue.

I guess the alternative is that you just create dummy poison accounts and poison phishing sites yourself so that it isn't associated with the user accounts. Although this could be a little easier to detect for a smart phisher so wouldn't be as beneficial as using actual valid accounts.
628  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum leak part of the private key for every bitcoin transaction? on: April 24, 2017, 02:19:29 PM
What would cause multiple input scripts to use the same R value? I'm hoping this wouldn't happen with Electrum just from reusing an address?

"some weakness in implementations of the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA)"
in other words: "poorly written code" Smiley

a somewhar similar incident was blockchain.info and their Android wallets. they used random.org to generate their random number (i think it was the k value but i am no expert and have terrible memory!) and random.org changed some stuff about their url so the page gave an error page, so all the wallets created at that particular time hit a brick wall and generated the same private keys and people lost a lot of money!

Oh yikes. Yeah, I do remember blockchain.info having a security issue similar to this such as the following with their web wallet:
https://blog.blockchain.com/2014/12/08/blockchain-info-security-disclosure/

Does anyone know if older versions of Electrum ever had this weakness?
629  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum "Sweep" greyed out after reinstall on Mac on: April 24, 2017, 02:15:18 PM
Speaking of key-logging - at some point everyone using Electrum etc are relying on Huh when they put aside concerns about key-logging etc? I didn't verify my download with the PGP sig (too complex) - in fact "too complex" was one of the top comments on Reddit by an expert type....  so at some level I am relying on the company's reputation that they are not going to run off with my private keys? Sort of like Chase not running off with my fiat money?

Yeah, well Electrum's code is Open Source so you and everyone else does have the ability to verify the code and compile your own version should you choose to do so. The average user likely doesn't do this so there is some trust involved in the developers. However, the source code is likely reviewed by quite a number of people and any backdoors would come to light very quickly I imagine.
630  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: April 24, 2017, 03:24:36 AM
Anyone have a good and simple how to for cold wallets? I want to buy one (maybe Trezor), but i never used something like this.
Any good articles or videos?

I recommend checking out the Trezor user manual as indicated above if you haven't already.

Here is also a video showing the initial setup of the Trezor that might be helpful to show you how easy it is to use:

any updates on tentative launch date for Trezor 2?  Haven't been around the forums much lately...

No dates yet but looks like they are shooting for the end of the year now according to:

632  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITDICE CASINO - GET YOUR CUT FROM DAILY TREASURE CHEST! on: April 24, 2017, 02:31:37 AM
hi admin
i was playing "RamsesTreasure" slot , Free Spins Feature is triggered with winning 0.2mb .
but when it goes to next scene “The Chamber of Ra.” , it got stuck there & waited more than 30mins
game still not responding for the free spin & it shown error: session expired ....
within the hr keeps refreshing & it repeated again & again on that same scene which wont go thru .
fyi .. it deducted my bet amt 0.1mb for the game , hows abt the 0.2mb which trigger the free spin ??
and was it a Jackpot within the given freespin so it got stuck ?? LOL

Update : resolved
re-try "RamsesTreasure" , game resume back with freespin bonus go thru smoothly . dunno what causes it .
btw any idea if such issues happen with slot games , is there a way or "button" to skip thru that spin "bet" with outcome result ?
else how to proceed to next spin "bet" on same game ...

Glad to see you got your issue resolved. I think GameArt servers sometimes have some issues which cause the delay like that. Hopefully will be all resolved soon.
633  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Happened with BTC fork? on: April 24, 2017, 02:20:48 AM
It'll only happen if it gains over 50% of the hashrate (specifically, BU would like it to be 75% of the hashrate so that it would be a high consensus fork and not a really problematic split into two chains).

You can view it in comparison to SegWit here.

It did actually go over 50% on 4/21 according to https://blockchain.info/charts/bitcoin-unlimited-share

Hopefully they do wait for at least a 75% consensus before a fork though as a fork right now could be very problematic and would likely hurt btc.
634  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum "Sweep" greyed out after reinstall on Mac on: April 24, 2017, 01:23:42 AM
Update: I'm learning from this link http://www.thecleverest.com/importing-bitcoin-from-a-paper-wallet-into-electrum/ that there are more hoops to jump thru before importing a paper wallet into Electrum. It's three years old but, since it was the first hit on Google, hopefully still current. Almost Kafka's Castle. Know where I need to go but incredibly aging peeling back the layers trying to get there....

You'll have to decrypt the paper wallets first and then import them into Electrum. I don't think Electrum supports decrypting them, but it would be a nice feature for them to add.

The encrypted wallets should be BIP38 encrypted I'm guessing so you'll just need the password you originally encrypted them with which is separate from Electrum.

That article looks like it provides all the information you'll need to decrypt it. If you do plan to use a website such as bit2factor.org, you'll probably want to do it with an offline copy to ensure they don't log your keys.

Yes did more reading and checked all my input scripts. I guess if your input scripts look like this

Where the first 30-40 characters or so are all identical, it means you have the same R and if you used the same R in more than 1 transaction, its very easy to calculate the private key.

What would cause multiple input scripts to use the same R value? I'm hoping this wouldn't happen with Electrum just from reusing an address?
636  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum "Sweep" greyed out after reinstall on Mac on: April 23, 2017, 05:04:12 AM
Hello,

I installed Electrum 2.8.2 on OS X Yosemite, entered a paper wallet private key with no bitcoin in it to test, and got back a "No Outputs" error. Which I read is the error when there's zero BTC in there. Deleted the installation to reinstall with the WiFi off (call me paranoid), deleted ~/.electrum and everything in that directory including default_wallet. After reinstalling, I go to Wallet->Private Keys->Sweep, paste in another private key but the "Sweep" button doesn't get active and stays resolutely greyed out. Unlike the seed words check during setup, the sweep box allows you to copy/paste.

I tried reinstall a few times and even created a new user and tried an install but nada - sweep is still greyed out. I'm guessing there are other hidden files/folders besides ~/.electrum which is preventing proper reinstalls? Would really appreciate any help - spent the whole day on this and am really glad I didn't use the key with bitcoin in it... the amount is non-trivial. Thanks.

The Sweep button stays greyed out on that window until you enter a valid private key. I'd recommend you double check the private key that you are entering to ensure that it is valid.
637  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Installing Electrum twice on: April 21, 2017, 04:27:08 AM
Yeah, the Windows and Linux installs would be completely separated. They don't use the same file system or structure to store files so you have nothing to worry about.

Linux stores it in your home directory which is ~/.electrum and Windows stores them within the AppData folder.
638  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed transaction. 28+ Hours. on: April 21, 2017, 04:24:56 AM
Glad to see your transaction already confirmed. Be sure to double check that you are running the latest version of Electrum which includes bug fixes for fees and enables Dynamic fees by default. Dynamic Fees are great to avoid sending too low of fees on accident and I'd recommend using them as they have been very accurate for me.

When will this be live?  Would like to get a vanity address asap.

It is already live and has been working for quite some time. You can use this to get a vanity address right now Smiley
640  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Equipment on: April 19, 2017, 03:04:15 PM
Good day. May I ask how mining really works technically? And what is the composition of the mining equipment? What is the difference in mining equipment of bitcoins and altcoins? I would like to learn how to make one, just for the learning and fun. Thank you.

Mining equipment is just specialized hardware to solve the mining problem. Different altcoins use different algorithms and may require different hardware which is why Bitcoin ASICs won't work a lot of altcoins.

Designing your own mining hardware is a large undertaking and won't be easy unless you just plan to make a PC with a bunch of GPUs to do some altcoin mining.

I am planning to mine coins that I think it will have a good potential value in the future. I think I am too far behind to build my own rig on mining BTC so I am trying to get some information on how it would work similarly with altcoins. Does it need a special software to mine coins?

Yeah, special software is needed that can take advantage of any customized hardware. Most altcoins already have software that can do the mining with CPU or GPUs but if you plan to use some specialized hardware like an ASIC for example, you would probably have to add support for it yourself.
