622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dynamic Defensive Hashing for the Bitcoin Network on: March 11, 2012, 02:21:16 PM
problem is that anyone with enough hashpower can create a rogue chain in secret and publish it all at once. It's impossible to detect this attack until is too late and instead of using all the power to make it harder and costly to him you are helping him because you want to reduce costs

This! If the attacker doesn't broadcast any blocks until he has a significant lead, and then broadcasts them all at once, effectively rewriting a large part of the chain, there's no way to mount a defense on time.
623  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitscalper back to business on: March 11, 2012, 12:07:53 PM
Good luck

Your continued faith in the scammer is depressing. You're only leading on the scam.

What if the guy's just incompetent, and not actually a scammer? I'd say we should give him a chance to prove himself. But I agree this all looks really shady. If it's legit, it's a miracle such an incompetent person can create a system that makes this kind of money automatically.
624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could I drive up the Bitcoin price with a clearing purchase? on: March 10, 2012, 03:47:20 PM
add this; i would create an air gapped wallet for cold storage.
Personally what what I never liked about this option is that I might get to learn about some impending catastrophe and wish to sell immediately, not after 6 blocks. I want my Bitcoins liquid.

I trust Gox pretty much now, so I don’t mind using them as a "bank".

Can't you import private keys into MtGox?  Doesn't that circumvent the confirmation wait time?

no, it still needs 6 confirmations for some ridiculous reason

Why is that ridiculous? You give them a copy of your private key, so you still have it yourself. They have to protect themselves from a double spend with the same private key.

Is it on number of posts?
Rep?

627  Economy / Speculation / Re: WTF is happening on bitcoinica ? on: March 05, 2012, 07:51:52 PM

98% hedge at 6k volume Huh? i dint see that hedge percentage even when the volume was next to 100 000

Z your capital is running away ? why i dont stick whit keeping all the moneys on mtgox ?

Where do you find this on the site?

On the main page, before logging in.
628  Economy / Speculation / Re: WTF is happening on bitcoinica ? on: March 05, 2012, 03:40:02 PM
The hedge percentage represents amount of trades that were hedged in Mt. Gox.

It has nothing to do with solvency, liquidity or total funds available. Usually when the volume is smaller the hedge percentage tends to be higher because there's more likely to have a net change in positions held by all Bitcoinica customers.

When the volume is huge, a lot of trades can be matched internally, and hence the hedge percentage can be as low as 40%.

Why does the page sometimes show percentages over 100%?
629  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rocket is secretly taking off yet again! on: March 01, 2012, 12:47:23 PM
I believe there is a secret rocket taking off again. Lots of small buying over the last 24hrs and basically no serious selling. Ask walls are being eaten away slowly but surely. Leads to me believe that a larger buy could be close. Not that it will necessarily lead to anything big, we might still be stuck close to $5 for a while.

I've got the same feeling, and I'm ready for it Smiley
630  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis and Bitcoin Price Forecasts (bitcoinbullbear.com) on: February 26, 2012, 11:39:03 PM
is it just me or is the font on these things really fucking small?
Ctrl-+ ?

Just messes up the font on everything else. I use gmail, so...

So read it, then Ctl -...

So you're saying it makes more sense for all the members to Ctrl + and then Ctrl - to read the mail every time it arrives,
while the sender could just adjust the font and make it readable from the start? :p
Sure it works, but the request to make it bigger wasn't weird or something ^^

No, I'm not saying that... but you are still bitching after he said he would fix it.

Not bitching, just responding to the guy who came with this brilliant fix Wink

Who wants to go to $4.10?

Not yet. Want to liquidate my long first and then short before we go down to those levels :p

Pretty please?
634  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its called a correction on: February 26, 2012, 09:51:19 PM
Dammit, I need the price to go down for a minute.

I can fix that for you...

Not nearly good enough, pirateat40.  Down moar please.  K, thnx.

That's all you get.  This train is leaving with or without you.

Hmm, not good enough.

Well then your really going to hate the next 5 minutes. Sad

Is this really you btw? :p How does it feel standing with 88k there? Feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins? Grin

I don't know who it is... but I would say this is a small order.  Enjoy the ride.

A small order? Something bigger is coming? Grin Is it going to be on the same side? Wink

Hopefully not.

up we go!  i'm going long with my 1 coin on bitcoinica! Cheesy

I hope you're not using 10:1.
This is called forum-overreaction

This is called having fun Grin
635  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its called a correction on: February 26, 2012, 08:08:16 PM
what a scam..  I just cashed out for 30 dollar gain, by the time bitcoinica finished

$1.47

what a fucking joke..

Limit order maybe...

Yeah, use limit orders if you want a certain amount for your coins. Bitcoinica is just kinda slow at executing trades at Mtgox when Mtgox is getting hammered with that many trades happening in such a short timespan.
636  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its called a correction on: February 26, 2012, 08:07:05 PM
This move made no sense :p Why did he buy so many coins at over 5, while he could have left the walls at ~4.95 and gotten just as many coins for cheaper. There was no depth at all between his walls and ~4.95. I'm puzzled.
