621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Etherium setup... 30 MH/s Any Reccomendations on: March 31, 2016, 03:16:47 PM
These are in reviews of the AMD cards, AMD themselves assured me this is normal although it seems hot. I have a case extractor fan and also a fan on top, to extract the heat as it rises. Watercooling seems like an option here!

This card runs at 90,  apparently 95 is normal, although I have good case fan and ventelation

The best thing about GPU mining is unlike an ASIC it wouldn't become worthless if it turned out to be a pump and dump, I will keep hashing with this, I did buy a few ETH not long ago, I will hold some for now. My GTX 950 doesn't crash, the R9 290 runs hot but seems stable.

I will drop johnny a message sometime soon. I forgot to mention I have a GPU setup on ETH pumping 30 MH/S, ETH seems more profitable for me at the moment, as I already had this GPU set up from when I first dabbled in altcoin mining.
625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / My Etherium setup... 30 MH/s Any Reccomendations on: March 30, 2016, 10:00:34 PM
I have etherium mining for the past couple of weeks with about 30 MH/S split across two GPUs. This seems to have a relatively good profit margin for me at the moment. I have been reading into etherium and a few people recommended it when I posted a topic a while ago, I do wish I begun to mine it sooner. I prefer the mining altcoins with GPUs because at least if the worst comes you still have a usable asset, whereas ASICs could become worthless.

I have been mining into my own paper wallet which I created on myetherwallet.com, the paper wallet has the private key and I am thinking to keep mining and holding for a while? Any recommendations as to what I should do with ETH?

626  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Blocks are full. Are pool owners sleeping ? on: March 30, 2016, 11:41:09 AM
The problem with this, is even if this IS transaction spam, mainstream adoption by more  consumers cannot simply happen without this... period. There simply isn't enough capacity in 1MB blocks to support adoption if people were buying their coffee with it every day, which I would do in a heartbeat, as it supports a decentralized system that isn't banks. Something as easy to use as touching your phone on a contactless reader after entering a PIN to decrypt the private key and your phone then signs a transaction within it. The phone only opens communication with the reader say, takes the transaction information, disconnects, you then sign the transaction, remove private key from memory, reopen communication with the reader, then release the signed transaction, similar to trezor. obviously there are security risks to this, but a system similar to contactless debit cards IF it later happened would be awesome. Or maybe bitcoin becomes something like gold, used as a wealth store only, where block size wouldn't be an extreme issue, but the way it is going, there seems to be more demand for it.

Something like litecoin, a SECOND blockchain, is a good idea. For your average day to day coffee spending etc, its faster block time among other things would have a benefit here, but still the block size issue could become a factor, but with 1MB capacity and 2.5 min average time, that is like 4MB in 10 minutes whereas bitcoin is confined to 1. Litecoin vs bitcoin almost is like the silver vs gold thing, litecoin is like silver, bitcoin like gold.

Requires adoption of both, but having two chains in this manner, is good and helps bear the load. Bitcoin currently is very centralized with a few mining pools calling the shots, the opposite of what satoshi would have originally intended I am sure. Antpool mining empty blocks despite other blocks being packed is wrong in my opinion.

There  are many shitcoins out there trying to fulfil the 'silver' aspect or just trying to replace it all together or a pump and dump, but litecoin I do feel has value here for this role, and its price seems in a way tied to bitcoin. I am taking a small risk by purchasing a scrypt rig to mine for litecoin, its difficulty is much more stable than that of bitcoins' for now, and it seems for  the home miner, bitcoin is out of reach unless you either solo mine AND get lucky, or go scrypt.

Obviously above is my opinion based on my research, others are entitled to their own opinions of course, but this is my two cents on this matter of cryptocurrency.

It is hosting with hash the planet, I am looking at for what I would like 0.08 - 0.09 cents (USD) / kWh. I can also mine for 8 hours a day at a similar price on the UK off peak electricity in my home, which is the Economy 7 tariff. It also means ordering a miner from the US to be shipped to them I can avoid any customs duty until I want the miners shipped to me. They seem a good company based on my research, but has anyone else used them here? Mining litecoins is more for fun, the bitcoin difficulty is way too high for me to consider investing in mining equipment apart from my solo mining S3 as a lotto machine, so I just bought some coin.

We would HAVE to upgrade the block size eventually, it wouldn't be able to handle any more widespread adoption without things stalling

This is why i wanted to hang fire on throwing good money after bad, in the case of the current rigs. Power supplies I have. 6 months was a guideline, but would seek advice before selling in any case

632  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / My investments and planning with bitcoin on: March 28, 2016, 02:58:57 PM
I have decided to put some of my savings into bitcoin, I am keeping very little of it in fait, the rest being kept in the form of silver bullion in safe deposit boxes, and a third in cash.

I have bought £1,000 worth (at present its worth 1k) of bitcoin over time, and want to hold this until 6 months or so to a year after the halving, currently its worth around £1,000 I have kept it in a coinbase vault but have done the part where I print out the vault information so they themselves cannot decrypt the vault without my passcode (in theory they could keep it I know) and that I could  recover the private keys if they go bust.

I am thinking of investing in 30TH/s - 50 TH/s of mining equipment to solo mine, keeping it at a host for cheaper power. I worry though that buying Avalon or S7 rigs now is not a good idea as if the new 16nm stuff comes out and makes it practically worthless. I also have a 500GH/S solo mining experiment going on at home. I am not really into pool mining, but want to do a year of intense solo mining with around 30 - 50 TH/S and   then sell my hardware  when done, swallowing a loss if I do not hit blocks but if I hit blocks pocketing the block and selling the equipment. If a block is hit before 1 year has elapsed, switch to pool mining for the remainder then sell the hardware when finished. According t

I have not invested more than I can afford to loose, and thus am keeping a third of my savings in fait. I would rather do this than rent hash as at least I still have physical hardware to show for it.

My concern is with the new 16 nm miners, and the upcoming halving. Should I hang fire? I will hold what I bought which I will keep until after the halving, I am concerned that after the halving there may be a minor drop when everyone 'dumps' but then after the 'dump' and the supply isn't being replenished as fast as before, then that would be the time to sell. I have bought some litecoin and have some peercoin (I pointed 1pH to a solo mine for a few minutes for lol and hit 4 blocks, although one was an orphan), currently I earned roughly 0.16 BTC from those solves, hold or sell the peercoin?

I am looking for good advice, thanks in advance!

Jacob

633  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Solo Mining Experiment, two years. starting with 3 S3s and 1 U3. on: March 26, 2016, 06:44:23 PM
You will probably find out I have hit when CK announces a block solve at address 16nfWjg4cGcFn4QphYgMgGLM9ftnaUBSkc

I feel pool mining is a waste of time on UK electricity rates on a big rig, the S7 doesn't offer enough returns to justify its large cost at the present time, so solo mining on an S3 is the best way to be 'in it'. The S3 is great as a lotto machine

It has only been restarted twice since the start of this experiment, once because I unplugged it by mistake, second due to a power cut as one of our substations went up in flames

P.S when it comes to stealing peoples bitcoins, careful of the karma : - ) I have left negative trust and reported this post, if someone had simply forgotten about it, that could be their treasure trove, like the guy who bought an apartment. Would you steal an iPhone you found on a park bench? Or break into someone's bank account who's details were on the PC? Sounds like a troll though

The 7B Share many months ago is still the best I got, I gave two rigs away but since December left 1 S3 chugging at it, not been switched off once since December and is still going with nice quiet fans, pumping out 440 GH/S on average. No block yet but it will come : - D so far 6 months into the experiment, although will leave this S3 running. If anyone wishes to donate hashrate feel free Wink the 7B share wasn't bad going mind. The best share since my last post is 995M. Send good vibes for me to find a block! Cheesy The S3 is using roughly 325 watts at the wall so it isn't too bad. Me and a friend who is in financial need will split the block when it erupts! All it takes is 1 hash!

I added de.ckpool.org to my list of miners so it falls over to the backup then put nicehash as t he third.

Silly whoever is DDoSing.

I pulled a 7B share with 3S3s. I pulled the U3 out as it kept going zombie on me. Total power is roughly 1.3TH. Letting the blocks roll in guys Smiley

Funny you pulled a best share of 1.9B with a 12 hr 100TH rental. My friend pulled a 1.1B share running his GPU as a test for two weeks at 500MH/s :O

Got a 7B share! It will happen Cheesy Pool mining is not really going to be profitable much anymore with the electricity cost here, so I much prefer to take my chance solo mining, one hit means an instant  ROI and very happy, it will happen : - ) Mine are underclocked slightly to the 227 frequency.

Use the relay network, I highly recommend it if you were to find one it ensures it propagates quickly!
