2 month, daily closing price:

Im probably a little early in calling this, but I think we may have seen the top of the bubble and the top of the bounce. I originally thought we'd hit around 200 before the bubble finished popping, but that seems very optimistic, if not unrealistic, at this point...if we close in double digits (which seems possible), I think the bull run is officially over.  Undecided

The price is going down because of where it closed? If you're going to FUD troll to get your buys filled at least be smart about it.

Welcome to the ignore list.
622  Economy / Speculation / Re: welcome to 2011, where sr affects the price of btc. on: May 01, 2013, 06:23:54 PM
They will fix it soon.

Otherwise will be the tor team fixing this DDoS exploit on their network.

This affects tor network big time.

How exactly would the TOR team do that?

Price will likely continue to go down until silk road is back up
624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 30, 2013, 03:09:37 PM

Making a long story short: we really need to work on BTC to improve it's infrastructure, it's real economy. There's still a long way to go before being ready for prime time.

With how much exposure its getting from big VC's recently, infrastructure is not far off. Give it 6 months and we will see a massive improvement over where we are now.

decreasing search volume means market stability.

That may be true in a market driven by fundamentals, not hype. Compared to it's fundamental use as a currency for drugs, donations, bitpay etc. Bitcoin is overvalued 100x-1000x.

For Bitcoin there is no "stability", the most stable 6 month period had about 50% swings. What's true for any bubble is true for bitcoin: when the hypemachine stops and greater fools supply dwindles, the price goes down.

I'm shorting and hopping a new bubble does not explode in the next months. It's a major gamble tough, with bitcoin it always is. I have a cash buffer up to 250$, if price goes higher I'm loosing my shorts.

Good luck with that short lol.
626  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you see here? on: April 30, 2013, 02:58:12 PM

As a rational investor, I don't assume I can actually predict the peak of a bubble or the bottom of a crash.  Anyone who can do such can make arbitrarily as much money as they want so it's all irrelevant if you can.  If you can't though, you will be playing based on the averages.  A weekly average is perfectly valid if you aren't day-trading.

Bingo.

If that was the DDOS guys, it seems they will not be making a profit today.

Also unbelievable how after all this time MtGox still can't handle a few trades without massive lag.

Pretty sure the same people that sold all of a sudden are the same ones that are causing the lag (sure to be just another DDOS).

Lets see how many people fall into the bear trap.

Enjoy the stability guys, its not going to last long.

The insanely bullish comments from very respected VC's at the techcrunch meeting is going to start the hype cycle all over again. This is a floor we are putting in right now.

Kudos for having the balls to make a post like this.

And welcome back to the light good sir.

Fireworks in a few hours when the US gets up.

What part of "Wall Observer" am I CONSTANTLY misunderstanding? Smiley

Some people just wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Don't sweat it.
633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 29, 2013, 07:58:21 PM

Right, because when kiddie porn was first put onto the internet, everyone freaked out and stopped using the internet.

Please, if you're going to FUD at least have the decency to do it well.
634  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-29 Techcrunch - Paywithbits wants to be the square for Bitcoin on: April 29, 2013, 05:16:53 PM
I had friends just try this from phones in USA and in South America.  The USA one got a signup confirmation, but in South America the signup text gets no acknowledgement.

Also seemingly unspecified is a fairly key feature, i.e. how one adds or withdraws BTC from/to outside wallets.  No instructions for that on website or in signup confirmation.

So right now the whole thing seems like an SMS autoresponder and not much else.

Nevertheless would be an important service if they can get it working.

Anyone else actually trying it?  Please comment...

I created something similar: https://phoneacoin.com/

But clearly, these people have got better press contacts.

This seems US only though, correct?
The SMS service I'm using claims almost 200 countries.  But I'm only localized for US English at this time.  I don't have a lot of localization resources at my disposal at this time, and I'm pretty sure Google Translate is how the original "All your base are belong to us" came to exist.  Smiley

(And yes, I'm kidding about that last point.)

It looks like a good service, but including at the least local numbers for confirmation/ management would be ideal.

Isn't that what Coinapult SMS wallet does?

Perhaps the greatest advantage is that they already have it working outside of USA and Canada? (Because, let's be honest, how many people need a SMS wallet in USA and Canada?)

It seems the functionality might be there, yeah. But as you say, there is no reason to send it this way in CA or the US. Where this matters is internationally.

Wow, thats huge.

EDIT: I saw this documentary about this guys traveling the tea road inn tibet. No people, noo cars for miles n miles. But... The guy had an ooold phone that could send sms. And now he can transact with bitcoins?! That is crazy.

Yeah exactly. The single largest hurdle between bitcoin and the developing world is now gone. I'm so psyched.

Guy joined forum, in May 2011 so looks to be a non spammer.

This is a great idea but can you image the waitress who gets one of these $5 tips when you pay cash for your dinner, she is going to cuss you up and down and then might realize a $5 tip in 20 days could be worth double.

Yeah I would not recommend tipping in btc as a replacement to a fiat haha. I will do it as an addition.
