621  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Master-P SCAMMER. I lost complete faith in this forum now. on: January 05, 2016, 01:16:52 PM
He stole money from people, it doesn't matter how trusted he was. I'm sure that some of the more affected members could push for legal action if they really wanted to.

Well that's the problem. You claim he stole money to people, but he can also says he lost the funds while doing his escrow job. Hence he's an incompetent escrow, but unless a precise contract was established precising he had to take care of the funds, there is nothing illegal in being incompetent  Cheesy

All without taking in account that I doubt a scam of only 10k$ would lead the police to a complete investigation :/
622  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dark marketplaces? on: January 05, 2016, 11:32:52 AM

Yeah it is beyond me why you even want to be there. I am sure they have  'interesting' products, but for me staying out of jail is way more important.
No dark marketplaces for me.

There's nothing illegal about taking a look around. I did it once. It wasn't very exciting and Tor is a pain in the ass. If I need something illegal I'll buy it from a guy who knows a guy in meatspace.

Illegal is never good. I never will visit such a dark market/site simply because those people are not in my league.
After all, there is a reason why it's illegal...

Yeah, it's illegal because a bunch of very precise people decided it was so...

If your government decided that kissing in public was illegal because it could shock people, would you follow it?
Incredible how people tend to forget the law is produced by just a few hundreds of people, who can be influenced, biased, corrupted or simply wrong.

The law isn't always good. And when it's not it's the duty of citizens to fight it.
623  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Master-P SCAMMER. I lost complete faith in this forum now. on: January 05, 2016, 11:26:15 AM
Lawsuit my ass. So far not a single victim (including Master-P claiming to be hacked) has reported a crime. I guess on this forum people either accept getting stolen from or reject "authorities" so much that they'd rather lose their money than pursuing any avenue including these "authorities".

Don't get me wrong. I'm not telling you to go to the police cause your signature campaign failed to pay out a few dimes. But if I had lost considerably I'd file a report.

Rehashing my previous point, Master-P, if you got hacked and lost about $12.000 worth of property, where is the police report about this theft?

I might be wrong but it seems simply impossible for me to bring masterp to the court. He's an unofficial escrow of the forum. Nobody signed any piece of paper with him, nobody can quote a contract explaining his obligations or what he has the right to do...

Did anyone even specified that he was responsible for any fund to be stolen? Because if not you can already forget bringing him under the law...

That's the main point of internet. Fast, easy, but not really under the law :/

It looks like the 430$ conspiracy is here to stay. My bitcoin price ticker on the phone is set on 430$ and I can't stand it anymore, it comes and goes regularly and also I can't read what is happening anymore.
The holidays confused me I guess

True, stagning price is good for reliability of btc but I just can't stand it anymore xD

Nonsense. no business operates completely without trust networks. Every business needs capital, supplies, tools, support, transportation, etc they they completely depend upon to complete their business model. There is no such thing as a business without a trust network. It often begins with 0 trust, but it is still a trust network nonetheless, based upon taking risks and then making a individualized trust assessment for the individual or company. You are claiming there are deals you HAVE to do but you simultaneously claim you don't have to trust anyone. Even when you use an escrow you have to trust the escrow. Hence there is no such thing as trade without some level of trust, even if it is blind trust.

Splendid. So you're saying a 0 trust trust network is still a trust network. Well in this sense you're right. It's useless and doesn't make any sense but very well, you are right.

Don't blame me because your "hypothetical cases" are pathetic and without basis. I don't owe respect to your opinion just because you took the time to type it. As far as the "insults", hardly, you seem to have more of an issue with me pointing out your "hypothetical cases" are pulled directly from your ass and have no basis in real world scenarios. If I didn't bother answering your questions chances are they were a waste of time to ask to begin with let alone to answer.
[\quote]

Sure. You just don't take in account the fact that I'm talking about PERSONS and not BUSINESSES. But yes I'm the one wasting my time no doubt about that.

And sorry to tell you that a one time deal is a very "real world scenario"...

As far as the "insults" I would dare say that talking about my "few brain cells" can and should be considered as an insult. Maybe we don't have the same definition though.

Quote

P.S. You might want to look up the definition for "pedantic", I don't think that word means what you think it does. If you used the word "arrogant" or something at least that would make sense, but you are right, I should respect your opinions just because you can string together a collection of mismatched words with incorrect context and usage along side made up scenarios to create a superficial appearance of an "argument" for yourself.  Also you weren't using a metaphor, might want to look that one up too. Maybe learn to command the English language before you demand respect for your half-assed opinions on complicated systems like trust networks.

Marvelous. So now we're going into the "start to learn English before arguing"? Well as you wish. I'm not a native english speaker so I might be wrong on some terms. But here it seems you're wrong, though "arrogant" qualifies you as well of course, don't worry.
Definition of pedantic in English:
adjective

Excessively concerned with minor details or rules; overscrupulous

As your main process is taking half of one of my argument (upon 2 or 3) and explaining why it is not exactly right, I would say that pedantic qualifies you rather well.

And yes some would say that you could respect one's opinion just because he took the time to explain it. It's called being a civilized or a polite person. Seems like everything is said here though.
626  Economy / Economics / Re: Block reward halving and BC price on: January 04, 2016, 02:17:37 PM
Well it should still double in fact, but on a VERY long trend, when new coins become more numerous than old one  Grin

As the halving will also mean less btc produced, it seems fair to say it will rise suddenly then keep going up and up. The halving will support the current up trend of btc

Indeed. this would only be true though if there was going to be more new coins than old but due to the fact that 15 million out of 21 have already been mined we will never have more new ones than old. So really any price increase is just pure speculation. Just perhaps people holding onto old ones.

Whaou, I didn't know it was 15/21...
That means that the price can skyrocket or totally dump with the only fact that early adopter have millions of coins..

i was not aware of that incredible number. It means btc is really an unreliable coin...

not really, i mean we are many many years away from before all coins are mined and bitcoin price is at what it is now regardless of early adopters. there is not realy anybody out there with millions of coins except maybe satoshi which is a non issue at the moment. The longer bitcoin is around the more spread out these millions of coins are getting.

Is there a way to check this? I bet it would feel safer if we knew exactly which proportion the 1% owes. Cause if they start spreading this it can dump everything hard!

due to diff increase, it will end up eventually in the +50% more range, so a 600-700 range is more correct than simply saying it will double

it will increase for sure, it is almost certain, it can not decrease because otherwise, always due to the diff miners will have no real profit

Well, I'm not saying you're wrong in any way, but saying "it can not decrease because otherwise, always due to the diff miners will have no real profit" is not a real argument, after all miners could stop making profit. That would just mean a fee increase or the end of btc  Grin
630  Economy / Economics / Re: Block reward halving and BC price on: January 04, 2016, 11:12:48 AM
Ad the topic is talking about the halving, does anyone know when the halving will happen?

Block reward halving, not BC halving. Approximately 2016-07-18.

Thanks for the answer.
Well we have time, beginning of the year is always hard for btc price to with a bit of luck we should be able to stock a few coins at low price before the halving  Tongue
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin 'real money' to you? on: January 04, 2016, 10:56:42 AM
No it's not, for the very simple reason I'm not paid in btc.

It's just a temporary transformation of money, not a true form of currency for me. Not until i get an income of it at least ^^

All "analysis" is just that, I would suggest at least 50% of it is wrong. Last time I looked at an analysis thread was about a year ago and I thought it was mind boggling dull and purely guesswork. Fitting curves to numbers and then saying that means we are on this curve when it clearly means nothing. Yes patterns repeat themselves but as often as they do this they more often dont repeat themselves.

Ahah, analysis are made to be wrong. If an analysis seems true enough, then people will do the contrary and thus the analysis will become faulse ^^

The whole econimic analysis is just a bet game!
634  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dark marketplaces? on: January 04, 2016, 10:48:58 AM
Yeah, honestly the whole using bitcoins to buy drugs things is dying because of governments being able to easily trace these transactions and the people who are doing the transactions (or atleast the buying). Bitcoin is maturing in the sense that it's gaining popularity by a legit "store of value" or "internationally acceptable currency" rather than have its popularity by dark net markets that Silk Road... Whether that's a good thing or not.

There are other coins out there that can possibly fill this void with even better anonymity features, but I personally think the dark net markets for buying drugs and that kind of thing are dying in a sense. People don't feel quite safe anymore and are being hesitant on TOR, unless they know a lot about other security measures to take when browsing the dark net.

True. TOR is no longer secure, government is taking more and more steps in the darknet and it's beginning hard to surf on tor without getting caught by your government. People in need of incredible privacy are starting to learn how to access onion sites without tor and with less mainstream software!

Are you guys serious? Comparing me with user kwukduck.

Okay well then I'm out. Best of luck with your trades.

Dude I don't know a thing about you but it's Bitcointalk. Users are prompt to judge and insult each other, most of the time without the beginning of a reason ^^
636  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why P2P Trading is Superior at Building Real Trust Networks on: January 04, 2016, 09:56:00 AM
That's what most people do, punctual important transactions. And that's where we use escrow, I don't see how you can do it without.

If the newbie uses escrow every time he trades, he is forever a newbie. If you never give him the chance to steal from you, how can you know he won't steal from you when you give him the opportunity?

You're right of course. But the point of building a trust network is to have people you trust to deal on a regular basis. What I'm trying to say is that it's a useless effort and risk if you're just a random dude trying to settle just a few deals a year. Which is the case of most people. In those cases escrow seems like a good option to me, but of course if you intend to make lots of deals on lots of domains, it's better to take time to build a network.

But again here you're acting more like a business than a person. You don't have to convince me of the use of a trust network for a business, but for somebody normal  Wink

No businesses operate without trust networks.

Wrong. Every business "starting" operates without trust networks, as it takes time to be built. That's the main idea I was defending, that escrows can be a good solution for important deals you HAVE to do with people you don't know yet...

And as I said in my last post you talk only about BUSINESSES!!! I talk about people. How hard is it to understand that it's not the same thing?

Quote
People without trust networks are the ones that get robbed taking chances on randoms over and over, in Bitcoin and in all business. As far as your example, its simple. If it is too risky, you say send it to me first. If that doesn't work try saying this..."no". I know that was complicated right?

Incredible. So that's your solution? You buy/sell only from people you know and you trust? Again, HOW DO YOU START?
That means you never do a deal until you have at least the faith of the community, which is a shame cause that could be a good deal... And if I got to wait until I'm hero member before you can even think about trading with me it's a bit a slow process...

Quote
Everything you said was pulled directly from your ass. Nice debate.

Quote
Believe it or not, I didn't just post this for him. I was hoping other people with a more impressive collection of brain cells might read/learn/comment.

I just don't know how you can say that. I create examples and try to discuss on hypothetical cases. You just insult me. You don't even bother answering my questions. You just threw your hate with a pedantic attitude like you know everything. Well kido it seems you don't know a lot...
God how I can hate this community. No wonder why bitcoin only has this horrible reputation. Shitty community with scammers haters and pedantic people.

Nice debate indeed.

"Forum scapegoat" you say in your personal message. Maybe more like "forum random asshole insulting people on a random basis just because they have the horrible idea of not being of the same point of view and they dare using a metaphoric illustration I don't understand".

I was taken aback by "Simply post your request in this thread...". I guess that means you simply couldn't implement a request and collateral mechanism inside the client itself instead of hosting it on a potentially moderated centralized thread which really sound silly.
i guess it's all about better exposure and minimizing the risk of misuse of the service by recording requests publicly. i agree, as bantam appreciates in value there should be in wallet mechanism to automate the process. it could work.

Or the fact that if nothing get automatized op can simply stop answering while dumping everything  Roll Eyes

How could people invest in something with so little value and absolutely 0 guarantee...

Regarding what Satoshi expected Bitcoin to be: no one should care.

In my opinion, he is an outstanding genius but nobody is smart enough to understand the best use of Bitcoin on the future.

The only mechanism able to make Bitcoin fullfil its potentialities is the market. The market is a mechanism of agregation of knowledge and no human being can outsmart it, the market is collective intelligence at play.

1 000 000 average people are smartermore knowlegeable  than one outstanding genius. 1 000 000 people more knowledgeable than 20 decently intelligent Blockstream employees.

Lots of people would disagree with you bro. You're basically saying the more we are the smarter we get. Numerous scientific studies are explaining the contrary! It all depends of the way you canalize things, and it can be done very badly.

Free market would have the same consequences in btc than in real life currency. I don't want to get the same thing here than outthere :/
