621  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why was Ordinal NFTs created? on: May 03, 2023, 02:37:37 PM
Still more negative comments about Bitcoin Ordinal NFTs. Bitcoin core has a community, don't the community accept an update first before it is added to Bitcoin Blockchain?

I'm not an expert, but from what I understand Ordinals resulted from an unintended consequence. It's not like Taproot allowed NFTs by design and everyone accepted it. Taproot got ride of a size limit, see ETFBitcoin's comment above:

"While i agree most Ordinals TX can be considered as spam, the problem isn't Taproot itself but rather removal of several soft limitation (mainly 10K script size limit) for Taproot address/script."

The guy who created Ordinals realized Taproot left open a hack in which he could cram unintended arbitrary data into transactions. It's basically a spam attack vector that the devs/community didn't think about when Taproot was implemented.

So no, the community did not accept the ability to make Ordinal NFTs because it was an unintended consequence of changes made in the Taproot upgrade.
Thanks for your comment. Exactly this!
I highlighted the main important thing about this "is it censorship to hard-fork out of ordinals?" debate -> If you create something with a certain intention, and unintentionally it can be ABUSED to do something else that the majority of users don't agree with, or even worse feel attacked by, you cannot simply call it censorship. It's getting rid of a bug.
If a tiny minority agrees with this bug, they can still run along with it - but it's gonna be a different product, in this case a different chain.

There was never a consensus (bip) decision about its implementation. It's a hack that gets in the way with most people's intentions for Bitcoin which are transactions of value (BTC).
622  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Longterm physical crypto collectors DOOMED because of Quantum-Computing? on: May 03, 2023, 05:39:53 AM
I used to consider SHA-256 and AES to be safe from quantum computation, but I am not as sure anymore. Let me explain. I have recently been researching the cryptographic security of block ciphers for novel cryptocurrency mining algorithms, and I have developed a dimensionality reduction notion of quantum channels. These quantum channels can represent all sorts of things including block ciphers. We pretty much can try to reduce the dimension of a block cipher with a 128 bit message size to an n qubit quantum channel where 1<=n<=128. By reducing the dimension of the block cipher, one can spot weaknesses with the block cipher. Of course, since I do not have access to any quantum computers and since I have not fully completed the research on this, you should take what I have to say with a grain of salt. This just means that it may be feasible for one to use quantum computation to analyze or attack block ciphers like AES or cryptographic hash functions like SHA-256.

P.S.

This is your reminder that you should not give into the hype about quantum computation and related things like AI while remaining oblivious to reversible computation. Reversible computation is the future of computation. In the future, all computers will be reversible. Reversible computation will be good for general purpose computing while quantum computation will be good for specific problems.

Interesting read, even though I just barely understood 50% of what you were saying. Do you have any references on that. What's a dimensionality reduction?
Did you just come up with a completely new attack-vector? That's pretty unlikey right, it must have been addressed by some of the thousands of cryptographic experts already somewhere?
623  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] MT.GOX yubikey on: May 03, 2023, 05:19:04 AM
I still have my really old MT.Gox key here.
I wonder if there is interest in this?  Huh

Here a few pictures.

Greetings,

Good timing indeed. I'd suggest taking a few pics with your username and current blockheight written on a piece of paper next to the yubikey.
And then sending this on an auction, seeing where this goes.
Make sure to allow for a good escrow such as minerjoney, krogoth or Mopar etc. for your own and everyones security.
624  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-04-26] The Guardian - Bitcoin is terrible for the environment – can it... on: May 02, 2023, 03:12:48 PM
For anyone that feels infected/affected by the FUD from The Guardian, here are two amazing resources addressing the issue of Bitcoin and its energy consumption in an objective way.

https://bitcoincleanup.com/
https://endthefud.org/energy

One would wish major news-outlets would strive for objective journalism. Ofc they don't but still... wouldn't it be nice.  Roll Eyes
When you read the Guardian's article, there is no discussion about what the energy is actually used for. The paragraph about Bitcoins energy consumption is short and contains almost no real journalistic effort at all. Ugh.
625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Highest Record Bitcoin Transactions, What does this indicate? on: May 02, 2023, 06:36:11 AM
According to Blockchair's records, the highest number of Bitcoin Transactions processed was recorded on Sunday, breaking a 14-year record in Bitcoin history. Yesterday's transaction volume exceeded the previous Bitcoin bull run in 2017. According to Blockchair data on Sunday, there were 568,300 Bitcoin transactions, which is 78,000 more than during Bullran in 2017.

Bitcoin transaction process peaked during bullrun of 2017 but the next two years in 2018-19 the Bitcoin market was completely dumping.

Bitcoin Transaction Breaks Past Records in 1 May 2023 So What Does This Transaction Growth Indicate For The Future?

Independently from price / speculation / fomo/fud news, that's great news.
I haven't looked much into Ordinals recently - but isn't it too expensive to use the Bitcoin blockchain for this kind of stuff? Just curious if anything changed recently in that regard.
626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCUSA.com is live!! 🔥 plz rate it from 1-10 🙏 on: May 02, 2023, 06:29:19 AM
Hello everyone!

with regards to my previous topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5450277.0

i have turned it into a website!  Cool

you can visit my website here https://btcusa.com/

What do you think of it from 1 - 10 ?  Grin ( 1 is bad - 10 is excellent)

Thanks!
Generally good page, and looking at your story you created that in the blink of an eye - well done.

Only critique I have: There are hundrets of market-cap ratings, crypto-news sites and mining / trading blogs.
Why not go with something really unique instead? Just saying... ofc depends on your business idea.

Great domain name - nice HODL if it's indeed 1996.

I got mine today, and am super happy with it, I want to get it framed asap!!

Thanks again @Kryptowerk, can't thank you enough, so awesome, I'm now addicted to your stuff... Cheesy

And thank you MJ.  Cool

Oh thanks for the flowers, owl. Smiley I completely missed checking this thread.

also received mine - thank you.

happened to have a small mag frame that holds the mini

Wow, awesome, looks great in that mag frame. I always liked the look of these, only usage I had so far was for some CS1s.

Unfortunately I never recieved mine, if any are still available am I supposed to send mail info to mj or kryptowerk?

I have one for you!
Will include next parcel Cheesy

Big shoutout to MJ who has been handling all the re-shipping to all US-based folks.  Cheesy Cheesy

Unfortunately I never recieved mine, if any are still available am I supposed to send mail info to mj or kryptowerk?

same here. maybe there were not enough for all victims.
Sorry to hear it. I doubt there weren't enough - I included anyone that sent me a message with proove of coldscam cards with my design plus some spare extra. There are 128 mini-cards and around 15 big prints.
Two parcels were sent out, one to cygan for Euro-based and one to MJ for US-based.
That being said, I never heard back from cygan and also didn't get a response to an inquiry DM. It's been way over two months now and I didn't check-up any further, kind of trying to put that ck-disaster behind me.

Muchas gracias, Dr. Krogothmanhattan.

Sorry my man but we were already rolling for the block. Will start a new one tonight so please keep your eyes peeled for when I launch it!

Oops, my bad. Will keep an eye out for the next one for sure.
That being said, congrats to woodie.

Actually, with so few spots taken it could take a long while to hit a winning block if the blockchain-roulette is spinning against our favour.
Additional variance added because you never know how long one block actually takes to mine. Still, in less than half a day a winner would most likely be determined.
630  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] EBAY bitcoin/cryptocurrency finds!!! on: May 01, 2023, 12:34:34 PM

Awesome find! It is not an official Disney release I assume? Or is it?
Any more Donald Duck or Disney themed stuff out there?

Correct, this is not official Disney merchandise..  or the other 2 characters companies: Richie Rich owned by Harvey Comics and The Monopoly Man owned by Hasbro
Thanks for the specific info.
Just wondering, isn't it extremely high risk to copyright-infringe a brand of a massive company like Disney - I read an article (not in English, so no link here), about a case where customs checked and found Disney-plagiarism items leading to a litigious value fo 2.5 M Euro. Immediately involving a tiny army of Disney lawyers.
So even just owning such an item seems like a risk not worth taking to me.

It's not owning it, but the produces who would get fined.
There was one case I heard of where a day-care center for little kids were contacted by Disney because they painted a Mickey Mouse on the wall for the kids and someone had randomly posted a pic of it on social media
Disney saw this and told them to remove it....

Being that, come January 2024, Mickey Mouse will no longer be protected by copyright, as it has run out and will now fall into public domain.... kinda like the Happy Birthday song!! Cheesy

What a sad kindergarden story. lol But not suprising.
Hmm, as far as I know if you import plagiarized goods you can get in legal trouble, too. Maybe it depends on the amount - if it looks business sized (for resale etc), it's probably are more major issue.

Wow, can't wait for all the Mickey Mouse art that will be about to pop out after that date.
Did some reading on the topic, seems like the copyright would have run out 1984 already, but Disney somehow managed to lobby for an extension. wtf

For Donald Duck it will take until 2029 to become public domain.

Haha, I feel  the same. I think last one closed with lots and lots of free spots -> higher winning chances for us. : )

Bekommt Bitcoin neuen Verkaufsdruck?

Quelle: https://de.cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-sell-off-next-binance-btc-balance-shoots-up-1-5b-in-1-month

637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bhutan's Secret Crypto Investments: A Game-Changing Strategy for Small Nations? on: May 01, 2023, 06:14:24 AM
It's great that small nations are preferring latest technology and investing fairly early init to be the early one's so they can have massive profits once the big nations start investing.
Good job from Bhutan, they should just make it their official currency as well to improve tourism just as El Salvador did.

As much as I support the idea, I think the best way would be to create just a tax or similar funding advantages for any business accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment. This, together with a well presented short education program on the topic would benefit both massively: Bitcoin itself and the tech sector of tiny country such as Bhutan.
No need to call it official currency - just give it a place among other means of payment to make Bitcoin very attractive for both merchants/companies and customers.
This would attract modern businesses, as well as increase crypto tourism and jump-start a new tech-sector focused around crypto.

639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bhutan's Secret Crypto Investments: A Game-Changing Strategy for Small Nations? on: April 30, 2023, 04:04:33 PM
Source of this article: https://www.jbgsmining.com/en/post/bhutan-s-secret-crypto-investments-a-game-changing-strategy-for-small-nations

The Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, known for its Gross National Happiness Index and largely agriculture-based economy, has been secretly investing millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The investments were revealed through the bankruptcy filings of crypto lenders BlockFi and Celsius. This revelation raises questions about the reclusive nation's relationship to the turbulent crypto economy and could indicate a game-changing strategy for smaller nations seeking to gain an edge in the financial world.

According to court documents, Bhutan's $2.9 billion sovereign investment arm, Druk Holding & Investments, was a customer of BlockFi and Celsius, which it never publicly disclosed. In recent months, Druk withdrew over $65 million and deposited nearly $18 million in digital assets through Celsius. While the source and purpose of these funds remain unknown, these investments seem like a curious move for a holding company focused on promoting domestic ventures.

This secretive crypto investment could indicate a game-changing strategy for smaller nations. It seems to follow a game theoretical point of view where smaller nations and companies are the first to adopt cryptocurrencies, eventually leading to larger nations and corporations following suit. If Druk is indeed a sovereign wealth fund, it would be the first to directly own cryptocurrency, setting a precedent for other nations to follow.

The kingdom of Bhutan has shown interest in the crypto world, hosting a panel of blockchain advocates in 2020 and working with Ripple to pilot a central bank digital currency in 2021. These partnerships suggest that the nation sees potential benefits in embracing the world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

Bhutan's undisclosed investments in cryptocurrencies could represent a new financial strategy for small nations looking to compete in the global economy. By embracing cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, Bhutan is following a game theoretical approach, where smaller nations and companies adopt new technologies before larger ones. As more countries and institutions recognize the potential benefits of cryptocurrencies, the trend could ultimately lead to widespread adoption and significant changes to the global financial landscape.

TL;DR:

Bhutan has been secretly investing millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, revealed through the bankruptcy filings of BlockFi and Celsius.

These investments could indicate a game-changing strategy for small nations, following a game theoretical point where smaller nations and companies adopt cryptocurrencies before larger ones.

Bhutan has shown interest in the crypto world, partnering with Ripple for a central bank digital currency pilot program and hosting blockchain advocates in 2020.

This trend could ultimately lead to widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies and significant changes to the global financial landscape.

Why do just 1:1 copy paste an article here? I thought the tldr was at least created by you, but it's also part of the article.
Here is the original source from forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/iainmartin/2023/04/15/the-tiny-kingdom-of-bhutan-secretly-held-millions-of-dollars-in-cryptocurrency/?sh=354c6e87f1d6

Not too suprised by the content of the article though. Even for a tiny state such aus Bhutan, "millions of USD" isn't really much.
And sure, most states have different sorts of reserves, including gold and some natural resources, seems just like the logic next step to include solid crypto, meaning Bitcoin, too.

WTB: Mt. GOX yubikey, OTP card, mycelium entropy wallet. Also other historical memorabilia let me know what you have, maybe some FTX stuff.
There was a member selling a MtGox yubi key not long ago, I will link the thread if I find it.

Good luck finding a Mycelium Entropy for sale, they are very rare and I still wish I never sold mine.
If you find 2 for sale send me a PM  Wink
Yes, I remember that MtGox yubi-key sale thread, too. But wasn't it just a regular yubi-key? I think there was no print or anything that made it distinguishable from a regular one, right?

And what's an OTP card?
