6201  Other / Meta / Re: Is there discrimination in the forum on: August 07, 2021, 09:20:01 AM
I would like to ask, is there such a statement or discrimination circulating in the forum?

There are a lot of individuals writing on this forum. Expecting all to be open minded, expecting all not discriminating, expecting all think like you is by far too much.
You will find all kind of people here, some nice, some rude, some helpful, some trolling, some discriminating, some not. So what? That's how the world is, after all. Learn to pay attention to only what you find useful for yourself and ignore gracefully the rest. Of course, you can start disputing ideas too, but don't expect that always the smarter argument wins (again, like in real world too, some will not accept that argument no matter what).

All in all, it's a good forum. The variety is just spicing it up a little. Enjoy your raid here, if you'll stay long enough you'll probably find your way and you'll like it.

Edit: and @YOSHIE also has a good point. Try to not be offended too easy and keep your mind open; some things may not even be as you think (in this case discrimination).
6202  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium wallet has stopped - Extremely Worried! on: August 07, 2021, 09:07:02 AM
For anyone who might encounter this problem: JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE UPDATED TO LATEST APP VERSIONS.

I think that a better advice is to keep the seed (or private keys if imported) backed up safely offline. Then whatever happens you're good.
After all Mycelium (or any other wallet!) is just a software, after all it can have bugs and you don't know if sometime in the future even an update won't help. Just keep backup.
6203  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 07, 2021, 05:36:30 AM
Actually the post is a continuation of the other one, in which I think you also commented

I guessed that  Wink, but I am sure that you got my point. And yes, fillippone has found pretty much the best way to express it in words.
6204  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bithub.im, BestChange (Removal of reviews and disclaimer of financial obligati). on: August 06, 2021, 02:35:39 PM
I've just seen that Best_Change made a (long) statement on bithub.im situation.
Some highlights would be "On the night between 4 to 5 June, according to preliminary information, the exchanger bithub.im was hacked." and
"the majority of the victims managed to receive the funds lost as a result of the hack of the exchanger, the rest will also receive them".

I hope it helps.
6205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: some people uneducate about Bitcoins on: August 06, 2021, 01:36:12 PM
Why does some people always say negative about Bitcoins?

Negativity is somehow in our genes and helped human kind survive... however:

Most people know about Bitcoin what they heard on news/TV:
* "bitcoin price goes up"/"bitcoin price goes down"
* bitcoin is used for ransom attacks
* central banks telling that's not OK to have bitcoin and it can make you lose all your money
* this or that (exchange) is hacked and money is stolen

I've seen even smart people who don't trust bitcoin just because they didn't care to read a tad more than what they are fed with by news/TV, so chill...
People will see the truth behind Bitcoin, but it won't be easy nor fast.
6206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Xiomi Portugal start accepting crypto on: August 06, 2021, 11:49:30 AM
It's a Chinese company with heavy control from their communist party. I would be surprised if they don't "send at home" at least now and then various information about their users. There's a strong security concern around them and one should be aware of what he holds in his pocket basically 24/7.

Do you think that Apple or Samsung do not spy on their users in the same way as Chinese companies?

Oh, but I know that they do. The point is that while Google has spied on me for 20+ years and they've done no real harm, while Samsung also spied on me for many years, again with no harm, I'm less concerned about what these do with my data than what a totalitarian state with its own odd rules and politics.
However, what I want is awareness. As long as people know, it's fine. Then each and every one can act based on his knowledge and levels of paranoia  Wink
6207  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Square is considering making a hardware wallet for Bitcoin on: August 06, 2021, 11:44:58 AM
huge minority that's going to build everything from scratch.

I was not thinking at hobbyists as a threat for the business.
I was thinking to another business - maybe in China, for example - that can copy this and sell at less than half the price the same product, just branded with Ca5h App (based on your example).
But maybe I'm thinking too far. I don't know...
6208  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 06, 2021, 11:40:53 AM
If you suffer from a disease for 30 years do you expect both the operation and the recuperation to be painless?
Every time somebody tells me how hard some countries are trying to narrow the gap to the western world and I look at the map I always have a feeling that the closer you were to Moscow the harder it gets. Hungary>Romania>Moldova>Belarus.

Well, after 40 years of disease and quite a surgery, I didn't expect that after more 30 years the healing is far from complete...
The map thing is a very good point though. Sadly.

But, back to Venezuela, the first thing that popped into my mind was hearing about denomination, do they afford to print the new notes? Of course, it will be a lot cheaper due to the quantity but they will have to print all the notes, not just a new batch and with the coffers even "emptier" if that is even a word, who is going to do it for them at the risk of never getting paid?

And, what about the Petro???
The currency that could rival Bitcoin? Backed by true oil reserves?

While Venezuela should not spend extra money on printing new bills, it should not be a big problem, since most probably the process will take years and both currencies will go in parallel for quite a while. So they only have to print a little bit bigger batches, that's all. And Petro... well... LOL...

Oh, common, the US has a lot of oil, it has thousands of wells that are stopped because there was simply no demand, there are enormous reserves

I tend to believe that they keep that oil for later deliberately. And not necessarily for cars and electricity. Keep in mind that half of the fibers in your clothes is probably coming from oil and gas.
6209  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online (Browser Based) Mining? on: August 06, 2021, 08:38:58 AM
Is there an online mining app or a downloadable app that will allow me to chain these three Macs together and have a minuscule mining platform?

Electricity for me is absolutely free, with 45 Sunpower panels on my roof.

As said, you cannot mine bitcoin with those. It means that they'll run, but you'll receive nothing because of the high difficulty.
But you can mine altcoins.

I suggest you ask for more details in altcoin mining sub, but you may be able to mine Monero or similar coins and exchange if you want into bitcoin.
You will probably need a proper stand alone application, not in-browser one which may be blocked and may have lower performance too. Just make sure you ask on the forum before downloading, so you don't download something useless or harmful (although it may not be the case for iMac).

Also keep in mind that mining is hardware intensive too and you should make sure that your iMacs' fans will handle the load. We don't want to burn down the place for a few pennies, don't we?

However, please ask in altcoin mining for more details, including what miner and what pool to use.
6210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is not getting above $41,000 on: August 06, 2021, 08:17:56 AM
What is happening, bitcoin is not getting beyond $41,000, I am think the price will get to $50,000 but my mind is double now, the price increase again to $41,000 yesterday but not going beyond, what is happening, when will the price increase to $50,000. The other mind I get now is if the price of bitcoin will decrease low $40,000 because it has been within $39,000 and $41,000 now.

You seem to be stressed. And for no reason, unless you invested money you don't afford to lose.
Bitcoin price went (shortly) to over 42600$ yesterday. Take a deep breath and give it more time. It will rise, eventually.
Imho it will easily go over 50k and over the current ATH. Of course, it will probably not be a smooth ride, but all the signs tell that the current bull run is not over.

PS. Keep in mind that this is speculation and not an investment advice. You have to decide for yourself what you do with your money.
6211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Xiomi Portugal start accepting crypto on: August 06, 2021, 07:57:27 AM
When people learn of the capabilities that Xiaomi has on their phones and their price range compared to a latest model of an iPhone, I am sure that their market popularity is going to jump in prices because they do deliver what they advertise on their phone, and I am currently using one of their models and I am jubilant that it's working as intended.

While I also use their products (and not only phones!), I won't jump in joy for their smartphones. They are indeed pretty good for their price, but, again, everybody should be warned again and again:
It's a Chinese company with heavy control from their communist party. I would be surprised if they don't "send at home" at least now and then various information about their users. There's a strong security concern around them and one should be aware of what he holds in his pocket basically 24/7.
6212  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 06, 2021, 07:52:09 AM
Quote
The Central Bank of Venezuela will launch a CBDC in October alongside a monetary redenomination that will cut six zeros from the currency due to raging inflation.

The title may be misleading.
In my country the "raging inflation" has started after "communism has died and got replaced by democracy"(*).
After some years, when the inflation was not that bad any longer they've cut 4 zeros from our currency.

So it may not be related that much to communism. I don't want (by any mean) to say that communism would be good, just democracies, especially the not 100% working ones, should also be afraid of this kind of scenarios (unless using bitcoin, obviously Grin )

(*) Clarification needed:
Although officially communism has died here (together with Ceausescu), unofficially it still lives even after 30+ years. The democracy is still unbelievably fragile because the important people from the old regime or their descendants are infiltrated directly or indirectly in all the levels of power, from parts and parliament to intelligence and justice, also obviously media and businesses. So yeah, between 1989 and 2005 the democracy was only on paper, the economy was struggling collapsing and so on. Bad times. And in 2005 we got 4 zeros removed from our currency.

FOMO wears off too: nobody cares anymore what the Tesla troll writes.

True, although allowing again crypto ads at Google has the potential to fuel yet another FOMO.
6214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Xiomi Portugal start accepting crypto on: August 06, 2021, 06:27:48 AM
Xiaomi fights hard to get as big as possible share of the market (they did surpass Apple!). They started with making reasonably good products at reasonable prices (still, the privacy concerns remain) and accepting bitcoin is just a step forward in getting some more customers.
Does this mean that they'll keep bitcoin or will actually receive fiat at the end of the day? I tend to believe it's still the fiat, sadly. Nevertheless, it's still good news.
6215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The American Bankers Association (ABA) with cryptocurrency companies. on: August 05, 2021, 06:21:42 PM
The American Bankers Association (ABA) encourages US banks to partner with cryptocurrency companies.

This is an interesting... turn of events. I don't know if I should be happy (since this is bullish) or wary (because banks are.. banks). Probably both.
I'm curious what will FED say and the banks (central and commercial) over the world, since I expect a huge majority just follow whatever US banks do.
6216  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a speculative asset or as currency on: August 05, 2021, 06:11:21 PM
but JPMorgan Chase are now offering Bitcoin to a range of clients

It may not matter much, but afaik they offer Bitcoin fund and Bitcoin related derivative products, not actual bitcoin.

Is Bitcoin still yet a speculative asset or a store of value?

The question is important and the answer is not easy, not yet. With the wide (wild) price fluctuations it's still risky - at least for short term - to see bitcoin as store of value. Of course, in time the price change should get somewhere near to gold (i.e. boring) and then we can say loudly that we have a store of value. Until then it's still more a speculative asset than a store of value. Still, at various degrees, it's both.

Also bitcoin high transaction fee, is it not related to this? Because the lower the fee the more Bitcoin will fit into the currency category.

Imho tx fees are not rising based on normal day by day use of average Joe, they rise basically when traders get woken up. When price fluctuations will be boring, this will not happen anymore and we will see if we have a problem with high tx fees.

For most people, it’s something in between. They want to make transactions without being traced, but, at the same time, accumulate Bitcoin and subconsciously wish for the price to grow to make a profit.

Actually most people don't even know good enough what bitcoin is. They've heard about its price. And then they'll probably answer "speculative asset". But as said, you better answer what it is for you.
And yeah, bitcoin is traceable unless you mix/coinjoin...
6217  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Do you think there is a COVID treatment that is not available for all? on: August 05, 2021, 03:31:51 PM
I have heard rumours that certain people, including a president, were treated with monoclonal antibodies, a therapy that is not widely accessible and is extremely expensive. Anyone knows about this?

The therapy Trump has received was approved very late in US (I think that it was even after Trump got it). Approving it for EU took some time too but afaik for some weeks it's also available in EU. In other countries may take even more time, but this is not by some odd reasons, it's simply because the approval of new drugs takes a lot of time and tests (which is good if the drugs are not well done and get to be rejected and bad otherwise).

However, the lack of availability is not the only problem. I've read that it's pricey too (2000-2500$?).
6218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google starts accepting Bitcoin ads on: August 05, 2021, 03:02:01 PM
Good for them. It was eventual as cryptos can't be resisted and when the people are with the crypto industry then they can't resist. They tried, all the institutions and govts tried, but they have to surrender. Bitcoin and crypto are here to stay.

It's good for us too. Although some ads are scams and many are there only for getting referrals, they will convince more people buy bitcoin, hence rise the price.
...Or at least that's what I expect to happen...
6219  Other / Archival / Re: The Problem of Environmental Friendliness of BTC Mining...Another Speculation? on: August 05, 2021, 02:59:11 PM
The main part of the claims is greatly exaggerated and is clearly presented in such a way as to provoke some actions in the cryptocurrency arena.

This is well pointed out. Nowadays one may not declare the truth/reality, he will declare what suits him best.
While bitcoin miners may indeed use big quantities of dirty energy, all industries actually do that, from vital ones to completely useless ones. So picking bitcoin is 100% unfair.

But we can use this for our own good: the miners that manage to build their own renewable energy sources will have profit for longer term and bitcoiners have a good chance to see them around even at the point the block rewards will fall to 0. So getting the miners do "the right thing" may be in our advantage too. Just saying...

Clar! S-a discutat...
