6361  Economy / Economics / Re: What's going on in China lately on: July 20, 2021, 12:15:24 PM
The only new thing was that now that I also had to pay some taxes and VAT, but I'm from EU.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to import small packages in the EU up to, I think, 20 EUR worth without paying customs duties and VAT, which in most cases makes such a purchase unprofitable. My packages came with a big delay at the beginning of the pandemic and I haven't ordered anything since then because of that, and as things stand now, I think ordering from China will become a thing of the past for me.

I don't know if it was 10 EUR or 20 EUR, but yes, I have the same dilemma.
Those are no longer as profitable as they were in the past and for the later few I already have to pay tax.
Ordering from China may not become "a think of the past" but will most probably become much less frequent.
Ohwell, nothing (good) lasts forever  Smiley
6362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Police Destroy 1,069 Bitcoin Miners With Steamroller In Malaysia on: July 20, 2021, 12:11:08 PM
Kind of a waste tbh.
~

Same as with the dozens of lamborghinis and ferraris and ducatis that were bulldozered in the Philippines last year. Was able to enter the country illegally without proper taxation. So these smuggled goods, instead of being sold to the highest bidder in an auction, it was instead destroyed as an example to those who will attempt to smuggle good in the country without following the proper process. Same as with the rigs stealing electricity. It is a wrong doing so it should not be shown as a political act but as a criminal act.

While it may be a stronger message if they destroy the goods publicly (and the information may go viral), I also agree that's a waste (especially with the chip shortage lately) and they could have monetized them (e.g. sell them) to recover some of the "damage" caused by those who were stealing.
6363  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Am I safe keeping more than 1 btc in a electrum wallet? on: July 20, 2021, 12:00:25 PM
I prefer electrum cause i have a weak memory and already lost a ledger one time, but is it really safe ?
does something like that hacking of the fake update links showing for people with old electrum clients can happen again ?

Anything can happen. It's not that Electrum would be unsafe, but it depends a lot on how (un)safe the computer/laptop is.
So unless you have the knowledge and willingness to keep 1 BTC+ on airgapped cold wallet, I also recommend you use a hardware wallet. And it doesn't matter that much if you lose your hardware wallet as long as you still have the safely kept seed (or course that after losing your hardware wallet you'll have to move your funds away, just in case)
6364  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: July 20, 2021, 11:27:59 AM
bar the brief moment when I though I'd been given an empty private key because I imported it as legacy (force of habit!) instead of segwit

Although the withdraw page has the correct Electrum prefixes if "Import to Electrum" is clicked, I think that it could be useful to add a red "(p2pkh:)" where the page tells:

Quote
Importing them into Electrum they may require special prefix

But I agree, the topic is covered, people have to just read Smiley

And yes, I've also tried it out the ToR v3 link (thank you @ChipMixer for being kind and let us try it out). All went smoothly, no problems at all!
6365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling attracted to emotion or luck on: July 19, 2021, 09:40:19 PM
When I'm gambling with a prepared mindset, I do analyze and try as much to reduce my risks of losing before betting, and do back off after 3 or 4 loses in a roll. I have also noticed high winning rate when my mind is free from previous heartbreak of bad bets.

I think that you try to find a relation in unrelated things (from what I know the result of a bet is not related to the result of the previous bet0 and I have a feeling that you try some sort of martingale, at least when you are careful. And martingale is simply bad.
And yes, your mind should not care either what has happened in the previous bet(s).
6366  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE RAFFLE] Italian Stamps and Collectibles (200+) - 4 SPOTS LEFT! on: July 19, 2021, 09:03:54 PM
If my trust rating looks OK (I'm not sure what does that rule cover), then I'd take:
7 - NeuroticFish

If not, no biggie.

Thank you for the raffle.
6367  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling attracted to emotion or luck on: July 19, 2021, 08:55:56 PM
When you are "prepared" you probably use strategy and you're very careful what and how you bet. Since betting is basically governed by random, there's a good chance that when you're prepared you're doing it wrong.
On the other hand, if you're relaxed and enjoying it, when you lose you don't count it (remember it) as bad as it was, and when you win... but luck is luck no matter how you play.
Maybe you start actually playing for enjoying it (just keep in mind to gamble only money you afford to spend/lose); it's the better way and if indeed you get easier wins like that then why not?
6368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did you first hear about Bitcoin? on: July 19, 2021, 08:48:41 PM
There was in the news about problems related to a big exchange where people were trading dollars vs a coin that can be created by some computer processing and the coin can work without banks.
It was the end of 2013, the exchange was Mt Gox, and actually Bitcoin was no longer mined by CPU (nor GPU). I thought I've missed the train and I spent (too) long time with altcoins until I actually became Bitcoiner, but nobody's perfect. But that was when I first heard of Bitcoin.
6369  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: July 17, 2021, 02:35:29 PM
Which competitor forum is paying per post automatically ? As far as my knowledge there is no such forum. Previously we had cryptotalk (forum by yobit) which automatically paid per post but it turned out to be a failed project.
I also believe that currently there is no competitor for bitcointalk  Smiley

Yes it was/is that yobit forum - I don't know if it runs and how is it going - , then there's some crypto/altcoins forum the bounties not-in-correct form for bitcointalk were held there, then there's a few forums that were advertised also here .. I don't know how good are they doing, but I guess that some of them do exist.
6370  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: July 17, 2021, 12:37:50 PM
It seems that both of the above mentioned posts have been deleted by the mods without taking any action for the plagiarized content  Huh

Actually the topics were removed and the users were banned (my BPIP extension shows that they are banned). Is there anything else you'd like to be done?!
6371  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Possible covert mining attack (in progress???) on: July 17, 2021, 12:15:22 PM
Unfortunately difficulty will still drop 5% today. I do believe though it will start increase after this (should).

5% down from 119-120 EH/s is not that worrisome.

It seems cheap S17 and S19 are hitting alibaba and sellers are very eager to sell cheaper. So it looks that the gear is reall off! Smiley

I'll wait until more reliable sources will tell that, especially as (too) many Alibaba sellers are not to be trusted and the chip shortage is not over.
6372  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-15] Fed Chairman Says U.S. Might Need More Crypto Regulation. Here’s Wh on: July 17, 2021, 10:57:35 AM
the Fed’s interest in regulating stablecoins and the potential for a central bank digital currency (CBDC), while testifying before the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services.

They should have been regulating them better from start, in a way to clearly prove they have the backing they claim in each and every moment.
Now... it's different. As said, they want to smoother the path for CBDCs and get "the competition" basically out of business by requesting this and that.
6373  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Can a pool track an ASIC miner ? on: July 17, 2021, 08:53:24 AM
Is there any possibility for a pool to track  ( or to identify) an Asic miner if the worker or IP address changes ?
I mean if I have an ASIC miner and want to give it to another miner , there is any possibility ( firmware Hardware or software ) for the pool to know that is my asic miner ?

This would mean that the pool software looks for information that's not relevant to them and, more important, the miner sends such (extra) information to the pool.
I don't see why could/would that happen, since a developer (and maybe a packet sniffer) could detect that and would lead to a scandal, if it's the stock firmware/software.
6374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: how to do selecte best bounty or airdrop on: July 17, 2021, 08:38:37 AM
I've registered about 100 projects so far, but I got tokens for 15 bounty projects.

Instead of jumping in because everybody does, just stay for a second and think:
* is the project any good?
* is the bounty manager any good?
* will I be able to monetize the coins/tokens I receive?

If any of the answers is tricky, you better stay away.

If you really want to earn money, then you will have to:
* get less focused on earning and instead gather knowledge and experience, for a while
* try to be helpful, instead of just posting for increasing post count

Plagiarism.

The actual post, for comparison:

2 very important events for BITCOIN AHEAD :
1- Grayscale will have 41000 BTC unlock in mid of JULY which can impact in price going down as GBTC release has resulted many time before as well for BTC PRICE to go down .
Good news is this is last release for Grayscale investors for GBTC release so after that there is
2nd BIG EVENT FOR THIS season on 21st JULY
That is Elon musk and Jack Dorsey Bitcoin meeting which can result in some bullish news for BITCOIN resulting in price to go up from there .

So for me we might see BTC price to go down with this final release of Grayscale GBTC and it will be followed with expected positive event for BITCOIN !

Right now market is in control with bears so GBTC release can have good impact to lower the BTC price and to hit our low targets and then we might hear 2-3 or even more positive news in market that is what i am expecting and can have good bullish month of AUGUST .

So what i am doing -
BUYING 15% of BITCOIN at present value so if nothing happens and this is trap then i don't miss the rally !
And rest 85% i will use to buy at lower levels if all this happen exactly according to events !

Disclaimer - Do your own study before taking any decision !

The source (I don't know if it's the actual source or both these users have a different source)

1- Grayscale will unlock 41000 BTC in mid-JULY, which might cause the price of BTC to drop, as GBTC releases have done in the past. The good news is that this is the last GBTC release for Grayscale investors, so there will be no more.

THE SECOND BIG EVENT OF THE SEASON WILL TAKE PLACE ON JULY 21ST.

That is the Bitcoin meeting between Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey, which might result in some good news for BITCOIN, causing the price to rise from there.

So, in my opinion, BTC price may fall as a result of the final release of Grayscale GBTC, which will be followed by an expected positive event for BITCOIN!

Because the market is currently dominated by bears, the GBTC release could have a positive impact on the BTC price, allowing us to hit our low targets. After that, we could hear 2-3 or even more positive news in the market, which is what I am anticipating, and we could have a good bullish month in AUGUST.

So here's what I'm doing: I'm buying 15% of Bitcoin at the current price so that if nothing happens and this is a trap, I won't miss the rise!
And the remaining 85% will be used to buy at lower levels if everything goes as planned!

6376  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: July 17, 2021, 08:08:51 AM
What do you think? Do you think forum is losing userbase and this is a bad thing? Are there other reasons this is happening and other solutions?

I think that it may also be related to the fact that lately (6-12 months, at least) [it should be seen as an addition to your list]
* bitcointalk seems to be punished by search engines, it's getting much more difficult to find anything here
* competitor forum(s) have come to life, some automatically paying per post (I know that it attracts mostly shitposters, but.. what if it's not only shitposters? I can't tell for sure though.)

And yes, the fact that we don't have a proper (default) mobile theme looks to me too as a big problem.
6377  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which language is most suitable for blockchain on: July 17, 2021, 07:58:23 AM
certainly there are many others around.

Under Windows C# is rather popular, and there at least NBitcoin and Bitcoin.Net may worth mentioning.
6378  Economy / Economics / Re: What's going on in China lately on: July 16, 2021, 02:01:51 PM
Anyone shopping from China lately?

I've bought some smaller things, I didn't receive such a message.
The only new thing was that now that I also had to pay some taxes and VAT, but I'm from EU.
6379  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which language is most suitable for blockchain on: July 16, 2021, 01:56:43 PM
dive into blockchain technology generally

You know, blockchain is just a specific type of database.
What is the best programming language to access databases? The one you know best.

So my advice is: get to learn very good a programming language; one which you find closer to your hearth. Afterwards, if you'll still be interested in blockchain, it'll be here, no worries.
6380  Economy / Economics / Re: Cybersecurity workers shortage in USA on: July 16, 2021, 01:49:30 PM
In this fast paced and technology dependent world? Nobody asks for this specialists when their data security is tied to the prosperity of their company? I don't think that that's the case because if there's a lack in demand, there's should be reports regarding the negligence of the company when it comes to their cyber and data security.

At least in my country the acquisitions made for a hospital, for example, are made by politicians, economists and doctors. Take a wild guess, are they vulnerable?
I guess that this goes on in many companies, countries, fields. Although we're in a tech dependent world, many don't understand that fully; and some of those are the people who make the decisions, buy equipment, hire personnel.
The real world is not as smart as we'd like to believe.
