641  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide] on: March 05, 2024, 04:56:35 PM
<Snip>
The process remains the same for every version of the Electrum wallet that the developers release. The reason you verify the software is to make sure that you have a legitimate copy that was signed by the real developers of Electrum. You should do it for each new release because the legitimacy of an older version doesn't mean hat future ones are genuine. You could still end up with a fake wallet that someone else created and signed. So, before you upgrade to a newer version, go through the verification process again.
642  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: March 05, 2024, 04:48:01 PM
The main difference is in the amount of money they'll be holding for that time. The 24h volume now shows XMR 24212. If a transaction takes 10 minutes (let's take the average Bitcoin confirmation time for this), it means they hold on average XMR 168 (or the Bitcoin equivalent) of their customer's money. If you add a 12 hour waiting list, this amount very quickly goes up a lot.
True, but that's statistics. It's a matter of trust to send them your coins now and it becomes a matter of more trust to allow them to hold your coins for a definite period. That's how I see it.

Quote
If there are no reserves for the coin I want, the exchange has to send back my deposit. I then have to deposit a second or third time if I am unlucky. That's throwing away money on fees.
That's a good point.
And both sides are losing here, I think. Every time I send coins to the exchange only to have them returned, I lose in fees. I am assuming the exchange does as well for the return transactions, or do they take a piece of the original deposit to cover the mining fees?

If it was optional, I'm not sure how they would manage it. The moment XMR comes in, where will it be enabled first? On the regular exchange or the orders on the list will have priority?
You wouldn't be on a waiting list if they had the coin you wanted in their reserve. It should be on a first come first served basis like it is now. If my deposit confirmed before yours, I believe I should have priority over you regardless if I ticked the waiting list option or not.

The same thing could happen if you are on the waiting list for too long and you want to give up and withdraw your funds.
True, but the odds are more in my favor if I choose to wait. It's more than likely that someone will come and deposit the amount I am looking for in the next x hours. That's what's happening every day.

OP is there any way to do the same function using Android? Kiwi and Mises browser giving some PC function but I don't know console will work here or not.
I don't think there is. I don't know of a way to trigger the Inspect Element feature on a mobile phone. Someone already asked about it in this thread before. Perhaps if you google it, you might be lucky and find something.

FYI, these are the 3 first search results if you google 'inspect element on Android'. Check if there is something there worth the time, but like always, be careful about downloading any weird software. I haven't checked the content or the suggestions on the below pages:

644  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.5.3 released on: March 05, 2024, 03:02:54 PM
Electrum has today posted on their Twitter profile that the wallet allows users to send the change from their transactions to their lightning channels through a submarine swap. It's a good way to preserve your privacy and not connect that change in the future to other coins and addresses by mistake. You need to select send change to lightning in the drop-down menu to use this feature.

A onda treba pronać i način da taj novac ubaciš u legalne tokove jer nemaš izvora prihoda i još ako nisi državi dao njen dio u porezima...
647  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: March 04, 2024, 04:46:09 PM
This is wrong in many ways. Pre-selling something you don't own yet is always a bad idea.
It would oblige exch to keep user funds, an additional unnecessary security risk.
It would no longer be instant exchanges, functionally the same as other CEX, it is not what we users want. Funds somewhere without control, for an indefinite period
To manage the price, a significant up or down of the currency price can happen, so the customer will not receive the amount that was planned at the beginning of the swap process.
I assume that such a list would have to be public because you don't want to send Bitcoin without knowing that there are already 20 open orders pending. A public list on exchanges which prefer anonymity seems like an illogical solution.
Like I said, it would be an option for those who want to use it. Obviously, it shouldn't be the standard workflow. I don't see the problem with trusting the exchange as custodian of my coins for 12/24 hours (if I wanted to), if I already trust it as the custodian for instant exchanges. They still have the coins, only the period of time they are in possession of them changes. Many of us have and still are using mixers, and you probably know that some have options to "pay out" or provide you the private keys with a delay to make tracking even more difficult.

Sure, it would no longer be an instant exchange for users who are fine with that. Price swings could affect the final amounts, but that's already the case today. In the previous few days, we have seen bitcoin jumping between below $61k to $63k sometimes a couple of times a day. For the time it takes for your BTC transaction to confirm on-chain, you can, in theory get $2,000 less per bitcoin due to this volatility.

There is great demand for Monero. That's where this could be useful. There is also great demand for USDT now. Reserves sometimes show several tens of thousands of dollars. Then 10 mins later, it's down to 90 USDT, for example. Why shouldn't I have the option to be placed on a waiting list to prevent such situations if I wanted to? If there are no reserves for the coin I want, the exchange has to send back my deposit. I then have to deposit a second or third time if I am unlucky. That's throwing away money on fees.

To ti odradi Jambler pomoću investotora i prodavača bitcoina.

Jedan fond čine investitori a drugi partner mikseri i krajnji korisnici.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi worked for the NSA? on: March 04, 2024, 04:16:52 PM
There are some psychological questions about this theory that Bitcoin was created by a team, where are the other members, is no alive, even after a massive success more than even Microsoft and so-called tech brands why they are not showing up themselves?
One could ask the same thing about Satoshi in that case. Where is he/she? Why aren't they showing up to claim the praises. They decided long time ago they wouldn't. Them being either one person or multiple.

No amount of skills will tell if you some RNG have government backdoors, it doesn't matter if it's certified or not, online someone from the inside could know that.
Depends on the type of backdoor. A backdoor could be recognized in the code if said code is open-source and verifiable. In case of some vulnerable algorithms in the past, this wasn't the case. So it was all about trust, and it turned out to be wrong. A good programmer might be able to recognize a weak algorithm based on the technical description of how it works and with an exact copy of the code to inspect. But no one would be able to know that a company that has developed a certain encryption is cooperating with a third-party and supplying them with information on how to decrypt sensitive data. If there isn't a whistle blower, everyone remains in the dark.
650  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Common misconceptions about cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) on: March 03, 2024, 05:03:45 PM
• Crypto is for Tech wizards: As many beginners are likely to think this, it is not true. With platforms releasing better user friendly interfaces, it's become more accessible and even beginners like you can navigate the world of digital finance with ease.
I am only going to talk about bitcoin here, not crypto in general.
Bitcoin does require some time to get used to it, particularly if you have been mindlessly swiping your card everywhere without thinking about anything else.

With bitcoin, you have to think about several things if you want to play the game as best and as safe as possible. There is no support center to call if you make a serious mistake, like you can with traditional banking. You have to generate your seed safely and store it properly. If you lose it, you have most probably lost your bitcoins. You have to learn how to use a bitcoin wallet, send and receive transactions, figure out how much to pay in fees. It's important to stay cautious of viruses, malware, and scams. Verifying and double checking your entries before paying isn't something we do when paying with a card. It's essential for bitcoin, though.

Preferably, you are going to have different wallets for different use cases. It's best to combine cold and hardware wallets  with hot online wallets when you are out and about, for example. If you want maximum privacy and security, you are going to have to run your own node and set up an airgapped system. Then you will need some time mastering working with PSBTs and public keys. All of these are new concepts the first time you try them out.
651  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Stupid newbie question, but can I make copies of my wallet? on: March 03, 2024, 09:13:42 AM
I was thinking on getting a sole 2fa wallet or standard wallet instead of getting a multi-sig again.
A standard wallet is a single-sig setup. A 2FA wallet is just a different type of multi-sig wallet, where you hold two of the signing keys and a third-party holds the third. I wouldn't use the 2FA wallet. If you want a standard wallet, go with the single-sig setup. If not, select a multi-sig variant you are most comfortable with.

But hypothetically would I be able to just have one wallet and make multiple copies of it and then put it on cold storage?
This is not a yes or no question. First of all, what are you planning to do with your copies? Also, there is no need to make copies of your wallet file if you make multiple physical copies of your seed and store them properly. The seed will recover everything, so don't bother with the wallet copies.

A wallet created on an online machine always remains a hot wallet. You can't create it on an internet-connected computer today and consider it a cold-storage from tomorrow. It has to be created the right way, and the keys have to stay offline at all times. A properly-airgapped computer with a Linux distro is the best option. The second best is an airgapped hardware wallet followed by a standard hardware wallet in third place. Everything below that (security-wise) is not a cold wallet.

Here is an example of a workable cold setup:
Electrum installed as a cold wallet on a computer with a cleanly installed OS (Linux preferably) with no network cards and ways to connect to the internet. You would then export the master public key and import it into an online desktop or mobile wallet. This online device serves for broadcasting transactions. The airgapped computer is the signing device that signs the transactions you broadcast with help of the online wallet.

This is not a cold setup:
Imagine the same setup as in the example above with the difference that you exported your seed/private keys and imported them into other wallets. Or, you created your wallet and seed on a hot wallet and now you want to "move" the keys offline.
652  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide] on: March 03, 2024, 08:36:39 AM
Is there a reason to to trust the official app from google play?
There have been numerous examples of scammers hosting fake wallet apps on the Play Store. You should never search for a wallet by going to the Play/App Store and using the search field there. Always go to the official wallet website, click on the genuine download links, and install the app that way.

Verifying the pgp seems not easy on android.
I have never tried it, but it's for your own safety that you are doing it. It's better to spend a bit more time on the verification now, then to regret not having done it if something goes wrong.

Could use a computer for that but I don't want to involve a computer
It's OK to use a computer because it's easier. I have verified certain mobile apps on my computer and then sent myself the apk files or the exact download location to my phone.
653  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seeking solutions to a 12 year old Electrum wallet mystery on: March 03, 2024, 08:28:49 AM
Was Electrum installed on Windows using EXE or something else?
I think they were .exe files. The earliest loadable achieve of Electrum's download site I could load from Wayback machine goes back to May 2013 and version 1.6. It had a Windows executable in .exe format. There is also a zip archive you can download and several third-party releases.

Starting with version 1.7.3, we see similar executables as today. There is the standalone executable, a Windows installer, and a portable version. They are all in .exe format.
The source I posted from GitHub with the earlier releases are ziped. If you are interested in checking the type of files, you'll have to download some of them to see. My guess is that they were also .exe.

I have seen that short clip where he talks about backdoored Random Number Generators as well. I posted it under sources in my OP. It's the reddit link at the top. That's where I first saw it. It could all be a coincidence, but I guess we will never find out.

It's worth mentioning that if someone distrusts their government, the monetary system, fights for privacy, and doesn't want to use any standards they apply, then why would they trust what the government deems a certified RNG? That someone is more likely to pick something the government doesn't recommend as safe if they have the skills to verify it.

Thank you so much for this potentially helpful information. I will keep it in mind for the future in case I ever need to use it for a mobile device.
If you need to use Ledger Live on a smartphone, make sure you download the software from a link on the official website. In case of Ledger, it's https://www.ledger.com/ledger-live. Never search for any apps from the App Store or Play Store because there have been many instances of fake phishing apps being posted there. Their whole purpose is to steal your seed and gain access to your coins.

I onda kad padne, jer kad tad će morati krenuti obrnuti trend, onda će bit Trofo me navukao.

Grin

Here are the older versions that are available for download: https://download.electrum.org/

Unfortunately 2012 seems too long ago...
That only goes as far back as to version 1.8 from 2015. Electrum's GitHub releases date back to 0.56 from 2012 (https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/tags?after=0.57a). I am not sure if it's possible to find versions of the software that are older than that. I think anything older than 3.3.4 can't connect to servers anyway.
659  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: March 02, 2024, 09:52:36 AM
Done ''right'' but in reality unusable.
Everyone else is using BC-UR standard, but nvk had to invent wheel again just so he could brag in social media.
I have only found two reviews of the new Q1 on YouTube. Both are by BTC Sessions. The first one is the video I already shared, where he connected his Coldcard to Nunchuk via NFC. The second one is with the Sparrow wallet, where he imports his public keys via USB. It's kind of weird to do that if it's supposed to be an airgapped signing device. I haven't seen any videos so far where anyone is using QR codes. Are you absolutely sure that no software wallets can read the QR standard that the Q1 is using? Have you seen complaints by people that would suggest that?

and yes
"It's a public forum where anyone can discuss anything they want. It's my choice if I want to be part of that discussion or not."
and that does include when people set a topic as self-mod to try to control the narrative. which i find more revealing about the topic writer when they do such
I self-moderated the thread to be able to delete spam on my own without having to wait for the mods to do it. It's not self-moderated to control the narrative or attempt to steer the conversation in one particular way. It doesn't matter to me one bit if the community believes satoshi was NSA or not. I am not suppressing one side in favor of the other. Have I suppressed your opinions? Have I deleted your posts despite your criticisms of my thread and me as a poster and person? I believe I haven't.

I deleted two posts from a user who suggested that Satoshi was an alien or an ancient deity. To me, that is spam and off-topic, which doesn't belong here. There was also that one post that I deleted by mistake when I wanted to quote it, but I explained that in the thread. You can always see the stats under the subject of any self-moderated thread, plus there are sources like Ninjastic.space. "3 posts by 2+ users deleted."
