coinmarketcap is quoted in us$ while in Dgex nxt is quoted in Btc. The difference may be there.

Coinmarketcap has a button where you can switch units from USD to BTC, so they probably keep it straight between the two.

Wow, look at the nxt volume, 5th out of all the coins (including many older ones). DGEX is doing good work Cool

This is a new indicator worth watching, much more significant and indicative of public interest than their default ranking of market cap.  Just wait til NXT is on Cryptsy and all the Doge folk come to play with our shiny new toy...

Jean-Luc has joined Nxt core dev team. His role will be focused on leading the core development only, nothing more.

Congrats, Jean-Luc!  Just how many people are currently working full time on the core NXT dev team now?

I think its time or a little fun.  POST YOUR PUBLIC NODES AND SEE WHO HAS TE HIGHEST ACTIVE PEER COUNT.  iM AT 781

How long have you been running to get that many?

Not sure, they require frequent upkeep.  vps02 has 17 hr uptime, but its possible the process has been restarted during that period

Dude, my client on my desktop runs for a day or even two nonstop but doesn't get a tenth of those numbers of active peers.  I currently have only 70.  What's with that?

Made it on 500!

Perhaps weight votes in accordance with how much NXT is in the account.

this approach could bring us in another ethical problem ;-)
(I got your point to make it expensive to gain the vote-power via multiple accounts)

LOL.  The NXT transaction fee distribution algorithm already weights participation in accordance with how much NXT is in the account of an individual, not the sheer number of nodes being contributed by computers operated by that individual - which is far more important to the health of the NXT network.  And you talk about ethical problems applying the exact same arrangement to member voting?

Just a wry observation, I see the merit (and pitfalls) of both approaches...

Cheap coins? If that's what you call them. I don't want to pay 6000x what the guy selling them to me paid for them 1-2 months ago.

As you wish.  Please step aside and let the buyer who is willing to do so come thru...

Every computer running NRS will show up eventually as long as they aren't behind a NAT. The reason for all the nodes we setup is to ensure there are a steady supply of nodes that are full open and accessible to everyone (i.e. not behind a NAT/firewall, running 24x7)

I dunno about this.  I've been watching to see this happen and what I'm getting is a lot more known peers changing from green flags to red flags (going from connected to disconnected) than new green flags "showing up eventually".   Currently I've got 420 known peers, 65 active peers, and of these, only 22 are showing green flag - connected.  The vast majority (43, almost two thirds) are showing disconnected - so why are they on an active peer list at all?

dgex is back online!

And yesterday's 1,800,000 NXT sell wall at 0.0001 has vanished.  The fuse to the skyrocket is lit, prepare for blastoff.

Sigh.  I am a quite impatient fellow and wanna make money as much as the next guy, but this is all happening too fast even for my taste....
651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 27, 2013, 07:03:47 PM

There are active peers and known peers. If your client runs long enough, you will see EVERYONE forging as an known peer.

So does this mean that some who are listed in the known peer list on a particular desktop client are actually active peers, and the given desktop client hasn't figured that out yet?  Just how long does it take for a desktop client to sync up and see all of these new VPSs out there on the cloud?

no, that means, that node chose to only take these nodes as active peers. The number of active peers is limited and the peers are chosen randomly if i am not mistaken.

So you will be an active peer somewhere Wink

Ok, so the is client decentralized and distributed.  Got that.  But...is there anywhere to go and get a master list of everybody that is currently forging at that moment?

I have a gap in my knowledge so I'm gonna ask a dumb question.  Just what IS the difference between a node up in the cloud and a peer running as a desktop (or Pi) client??

We've got all these VPNs set up all over the world now - ferment alone has set up almost 100 - and these are "nodes".  They are all running the NXT 0.4.7e Java server software.  They are forging blocks.  Yet if I look at the "peer" list on my desktop client (where I have actually generated 9 blocks myself so far the past couple of days) I only see 52 "online peers".  If the "nodes" are generating "blocks" too, why aren't they considered "peers" as well and show up in the online "peer" list?

I note one of the most prolific block generators is 4747512364439223888, a 50,000,000+ NXT account that has generated 3304 blocks so far, earning 56,290 NXT in fees.  Yet this chap  doesn't show up at all in the "online peer" list, which for me only lists two multi-million NXT accounts out of 54 as forging blocks : 78:46:63:221 at 6.6 million NXT and vps07.nxtcrypto.org with 2.1 million.   Somebody looking at just his desktop client with his minimum 10 NXT in it hoping to forge a block not only is at the back of the pack statistically speaking, he can't even see the front of the pack.

Am I missing something here?  Any elaboration somebody feels like sharing would be appreciated, thanks.

Why duration in "You can generate the next block in 13 days 22 hours 43 minutes 15 seconds" changes?
13 days, 45 days, 3 days....
Whet i mine my block?
buy more NXT.
How much NXT's I need?
about 1000000 or more.

From an earlier post of mine:

A 1000 NXT forging stake will earn you 0.0001% of all transaction fees, which is identical to saying you get 1 transaction fee NXT for every 1,000,000 generated by the system.  You will double your 1000 NXT stake after 1,000,000,000 NXT have been generated in transaction fees.  How long it takes to generate a billion NXT in transaction fees depends on the average size of all NXT transactions.   For every thousand NXT in the average transaction size, a trillion NXTs must change hands for you to double your 1000 NXT forging stake.

Forging isn't mining.   It's gonna take a while to earn that first NXT from forging.

If they launch a big (bigger/huge) DDOS attack, do we stand a chance?
And let me extend this question with another.  What is the relative worth of a Raspberry Pi compared to a cloud-based virtual private server (VPS)?  Are X number of Raspberries worth Y number of VPS, or do they put their fingers in different parts of the leaking dyke?
656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 11:32:07 PM
If NXT keeps on growing this fast then all the Raspberry Pis will be sold out in a few months just like ATI Radeon 7950, mark my words! Well anyway I just ordered 5, can't wait to get them running  Grin

But how do you plan to make money with them?

Yes please explain...
If I have 50k NXT and I put them in one account then my chances of forging a block are 0.005%, if I split this across 10 accounts logged in with 10 Pi then I have 10 x 0.0005% chances of forging a block - is that right?

Isn't that the same chance?
So why would I spend the money on more H/W - why wouldn't I buy more NXT?

There is a lot of talk about people buying and setting up PIs on here so could someone please explain?

Thanks

Raspberry Pis are a cheap way to stand up lots of new nodes fast to stabilize the network from DDoS attack more so than using them for forging new NXT coins.

Mods will not ban on btc-e  Wink

Pin
In russian chat mods banned me when I spoke about nxt.

And yet they have just pardoned Mikhail Khodorkovsky as well as Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina of Pussy Riot.  Those wacky Russians.

Despite its innovation (which is yet to be seen/proven) if the coins remain undistributed and at a 500-600,000% price premium to original $4,000 invested, then we will see lots of panic. Can't wait for that. Getting the popcorn ready.

Post ur Nxt account and I'll send u some coins, so u could buy more popcorn.

Just set up a nxt client, please send some test coins: 6933627427271736687
Done.

CfB, a new topic for your consideration.  Is there a way to mod the next version of the NXT client/server software (0.4.8?) to identify whether on not it is running on a Raspberry Pi and perhaps even put out some sort of visual designator in the peer field of the client so you can tell how many Raspberry Pis are running in the wild?  Such info could be of great and growing interest in the future, perhaps even convincing the bad guys to give up DDoS when they see for themselves that NXT can deploy more nodes for $40 each than they can to attack.

Check this article and think about it.  If NXT is running on an ARMv6, it's running on a Pi.  Perhaps a nice raspberry colored dot could be used to show this?
