Will ownership be determined on pixels won, or bitcoins spent? I suggest that you either set an irrevocable license or create a mechanism to let the winning bidders vote on a license when the auction is over. What about allowing winning bidders to sell off their pixels?

You don't have to pay real money, because we use bitcoins. You can buy bitcoins with real money, but you can also get some for free, so anyone can participate.
Bitcoins are real money. Will the winning bidders have ownership over the artwork at the end of the auction?

...just use the binary instead.
Ok, just went with the binary and now I get this:
Code:
kurt@El-Jefe:~/DiabloMiner$ ./DiabloMiner-Linux.sh -u [redacted] -p [redacted]

Waiting...
That keeps repeating and eventually I get a hash rate in the bottom left corner of the terminal. My system also slows down. Seems like I'm getting somewhere and won't have to muck with my graphics driver. Not sure what I'm doing wrong though.

EDIT: Looks like I just had to run bitcoind first. Getting about 49000 khash/s now. Any way to pause it whenever I want a usable GUI?
644  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: Cambio de pesos mexicanos? on: January 09, 2011, 05:20:54 PM

I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 and am running Ubuntu 10.10. When I run this:
Code:
kurt@El-Jefe:~/Programs/Diablo-D3-DiabloMiner-e3c3bfb$ ./DiabloMiner-Linux.sh -u [redacted] -p [redacted]
I get this:
Code:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/diablominer/DiabloMiner/DiabloMiner
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.diablominer.DiabloMiner.DiabloMiner

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266)
Could not find the main class: com.diablominer.DiabloMiner.DiabloMiner. Program will exit.
Apparently, I'm using Nvidia's 260.19.06 driver. Not sure what the problem is. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I'm gonna try updating to the latest Nvidia driver per this guide. Hopefully that fixes the problem.

I stand corrected. How about Bitcoin Buck?

You think if a country censors the internet they're going to allow you to own the sort of hardware you need to use those birds?
Maybe not. But what about the innocuous components one might need to build the sort of hardware you need to use those birds?
648  Other / Off-topic / Re: I am changing my name... Advice would be appreciated... on: January 06, 2011, 09:30:59 PM
Any reason why I shouldn't go through with this?
Because there's nothing wrong with your current name and you therefore have better things to do with your time.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Official Bitcoin Unicode Character? on: January 06, 2011, 06:05:10 PM
just an idea that I'd like to share:

We could create a pitch for creative agencies to create this symbol.

The benefit for an agency would be that they could be the first and one and only creator of this symbol for this groundbreaking digital invention. Having worked with many agencies in the past years  I sense that some of them may be very excited because it would create buzz for them.
they would likely issue a press release.

The benefit for bitcoin would be that we would profit from this buzz and dont need to pay anything (while we can still donate them some coins)
as a client, we could still chose whichever symbol we want from the agencys proposals.
I probably wouldn't use any such symbol as long as it didn't belong to the public domain. I definitely wouldn't if it came with a license more restrictive than CC-BY-SA. See the Flag of New England, as copyrighted by some douche named K. Albert Ebinger.

"Where my Bitcoin at, bitch?" works also for the non-tech-savy pimp. Cheesy
Only if said bitch deleted the shortcut to said pimp's Bitcoin client from his desktop.

Moral of the story: don't ever let a bitch touch your rig.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nomenclature convention on: December 22, 2010, 03:09:33 PM
"The bitcoin, as opposed to the US dollar or the euro, does not have a central issuing authority."

By using the word the, we can allow for sentence usage more similar to other currencies.
652  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Android Bitcoin Client Bounty (1740 BTC pledged) on: December 22, 2010, 04:11:55 AM
that's about $400... that's a measly amount for work like this that'd take time.
Sure, but people can reasonably add conditions to their bounties that require FOSS attributes.
653  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Android Bitcoin Client Bounty (1740 BTC pledged) on: December 21, 2010, 08:37:31 PM
cdecker: I hate ads in Android apps, how about a paid client?
I see some interesting possibilities here. What if the app would transfer a small fraction of a bitcoin to Cdecker, once for every day in which the user made a transfer? Or perhaps, users could send, with the app, a certain amount to Cdecker and in doing so disable the ads?

My suggestions: Bitsauce, Coin. Maybe I'll come up with others.

Pizza or assassination... I'm carrying an EMP gun at all times, good to avoid being killed and grab a free lunch while at it Smiley
Perhaps a vortex cannon might have enough power to knock one out of the air.

My search for something on vortex cannons also lead me to this image:

The only downside is that you will be chased by hexcopters.
I couldn't blame them. Pizza in 30 minutes or the 'bot gets tortured in Jabba's dungeon.
657  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy CO2 with Bitcoins on: December 20, 2010, 01:44:51 AM
rights are invalidated when bought through the NGO. You can't trade them any more (You would have to setup your own company and trade through that to do that).
I have a legal right to resell that ones that I have, but when you purchase from me, they have to be permanently retired.
Therefore, we should think of these carbon rights as indulgences more so than investments. Just wanted to be clear.
658  Economy / Marketplace / Re: A Sensitive Offer on: December 20, 2010, 01:03:20 AM
SOLD! 230 BTC
"v1agra f0r BTC" here we come!
659  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy CO2 with Bitcoins on: December 19, 2010, 07:10:24 AM
So, why would you buy these rights:
1) By reducing your energy usage you can reduce your CO2 emissions, but there is a limit. With this system you can take out the remaining amount.
2) Due to the market, prices might go up a bit. Giving strong polluters incentives to invest in less polluting technologies.
3) Direct result of less CO2 in the air.
What about selling the rights off for a profit?
660  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Community driven magazine on: December 19, 2010, 06:48:30 AM
Already discussed with kiba about it, already under a single license.(Creative Commons - Public Domain)

The magazine itself will be provided under no cost by us under a Creative Commons-Attribution-
No Comercial-Share Alike license.
Contradiction?

Quote
You may share it with friends, print it, give it aways, etc. If
this license does not suit you you may buy another one like the Creative Commons-Share Alike
license, which allows you to make derivative works and charge for them provided you give them
under the same license. If you are a CopyFree activist you may buy the Creative Commons -
Public Domain license and give it away or sell it under your license. isn't that great? The best
part is that all contributors get a part on it and allows bitcoin to increase in value.
As soon as someone buys a CC-BY-SA license and shares the issue accordingly, the original license, if it's CC-BY-NC-SA, will no longer apply. If the original "license" is public domain, how can anyone buy a more restrictive license? It just seems like a weird scheme. Why not just stick to something simple, like CC-BY-SA, or let contributors specify licenses for individual articles?
