641  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 26, 2023, 04:05:13 AM
I imagine Countries all over the world adopting a national strategy with BTC,

the only challenge would be the scalability of Bitcoin. As the network's user base grows, there's a limitation on the number of transactions processed per second. If Bitcoin were to be widely adopted as a global reserve currency, managing a substantial transaction volume could pose a challenge.
The scalability challenge of Bitcoin can be tackled by increasing the block size limit. Although it might have some consequences but it is a good option. Another good alternative is to use the Lightning Network for transactions.

It seems that more countries are considering making fair policies on Bitcoin. We got news recently from Nigeria that the government has lifted sanctions on banks facilitating crypto transactions. My prediction is that next year will be better especially if the SEC approves the ETF this is because many nations see the US as their role model. Some unfriendly nations might begin to change the negative views they have about Bitcoin once the US integrates Bitcoin into their financial system.

Also it will greatly help skeptical people around the world to trust Bitcoin and possible make them intrigued about this tech.
Your views are correct that this kind of news will reduce the amount of doubt people have about Bitcoin and it could lead to more an increase in Bitcoin awareness. Suriname might be a small country but the news is good for the spread of Bitcoin education.
642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin HODL: what happens to Bitcoin holders during impressive price increase? on: December 26, 2023, 03:32:25 AM
Question: With the coming of these two major events, assuming the price of Bitcoin turns out to be very impressive and massively different from today's current price, will the majority of Bitcoin holders keep(continue) holding?, or might price temptation just result in them selling to make a profit?.

Thanks for your time.
You will not get the same answer from all hodlers because every investor has their peculiar plans. Some have made a lot of profit and will want to cash out to take care of some needs, while others might want to keep the coin until another halving period.

Me, I am new in the buy Bitcoin space and this is my first halving but I have read that the bull run will happen sometime in early 2025. Which means I have to wait for another year to make my decision. I have a dream of diversifying my sources of income by starting a business. Which entails that I might consider selling the little I have to invest in a business. I believe that Bitcoin price will keep going high, so I still have plans to buy Bitcoin with the profits I will make from my business.
643  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 25, 2023, 11:43:36 AM
The reality is that Roma got 4 out of 9 points from the last 3 games. This isn't very impressive and definitely not enough to get into the top four. This game against Napoli is a bit blurry as it seems that Roma has beaten a serious contender in Serie A, but everyone is aware that Napoli got a red card, then a red card and then the finishing blow from Lukaku. But without the red cards the world would be looking slightly differently and your assessment whether Roma would get into the top four and it would not be too challenging may also have been different.
I don't think that the red card was the only reason for Napoli's loss to Roma. This is because Napoli was a total shadow of themselves and didn't show much zeal to win the game. They dominated ball possession had just seven shots which a mere two were on target compared to Roma which had seventeen shots and four on target. We shouldn't always skip the fact that the first red card was in the 66th minute and the second card came in the 86th, which shows that Napoli has sufficient time to at least get a goal but the attack didn't live up to expectations.

Lukaku has been proving both Inter Milan, Chelsea and Juventus wrong. The Belgian striker had several difficulties at the beginning of the season when his future in several clubs was in doubt. Jose Mourinho just believed in him and gave him a lifeline in Roma and the striker has not disappointed the Portuguese tactician. Roma will be considering a permanent deal from the striker.
644  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Innovation in online gambling on: December 25, 2023, 10:52:28 AM
The drastic changes and innovations right now is probably going to come at a high cost so I can understand why online casinos are content with their current business model. Making some tweaks to UIs and improving speed is the most practical thing to do. Maybe we'll see more AI and AR integrations once cost of implementing them drops significantly.
There are little or no changes in games offered by casinos. There are just little improvements or adjustments in some games but they remain the same. Artificial intelligence in gambling has assisted casinos to dictate fraud and promote better customer experience. Violators if the terms of service of the casinos can be easily dictated because these machines can analyze large data with zero errors.

AI-backed chatbots have helped to improve customer support services which have promoted good relationships between bettors and casinos. AI can easily analyse customer data which could help gamblers identify the best games for them. The introduction of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the gambling industry is also a technological advancement that should also be recognized.
645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: December 25, 2023, 10:17:44 AM
The casino employees aren't licensed psychic doctors, so they can't decide who is mentally sick and who is OK. I'm sure that if a guy starts acting weird, they will kick him out of the casino.
I assume that some physical signs can show that someone is not mentally stable. And I pointed to the fact that can such a person be barred from gambling based on some of these clear physical signs and not a psychiatric check.

Mentally deranged or unstable persons are well known for their violent behaviors of causing harm to others, they don't work for money neither have a sense to gamble for money but this man from the op does the opposite which makes me count him as not mentally unstable but as someone suffering from a depressive condition from life's challenges that had overwhelmed him making him to care less of himself
I don't think it is all mentally unstable people that are violent. I also feel that the ability to work and gamble is not a yardstick to conclude that somebody is sound. Many emotionally unbalanced people still work and are not violent.
646  Economy / Gambling discussion / Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: December 25, 2023, 07:20:50 AM
Recently I was around a physical bet shop close to my area and I observed a man who was shabbily dressed walking in the gambling house. I got into the place to observe what his intentions were. He walked straight to the gaming attendant, placed his bets in a highly coordinated manner and quietly walked out of the physical gambling house. From the way he was well organized, you will never know that he was mentally unsound apart from his dirty clothes and unkept hair and beard.

When I inquired from the attendant, she said he was a regular customer and that he usually raised money for gambling through the manual jobs he does around the area. She also told me that he has never misbehaved and acted violently in the gambling house so she was comfortable with him.

My question now is are there any moral, ethical or legal obligation to bar a person from gambling after physically observing that he is mentally unstable?
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: December 25, 2023, 05:34:06 AM
The country is really catching my interest as I find it exciting how many things they are trying out. Too bad that El Salvador isn't doing that well on the "Fragile State Index" as this is still something to consider for wealthy individuals who would actually be able and willing to invest $1 million in BTC to participate in the Freedom Visa program there. A citizenship isn't worth much if the political situation is unstable. I am not aware of all the advantages they are offering to BTC donators and investors, but someone who is able to donate a million is probably not willing to risk too much in a country that is prone to unexpected changes in the political landscape. But maybe the index doesn't perfectly reflect what's going on there. I am not too well informed about the politics there, but indices can give a first impression.
The Bitcoin Freedom Visa is different from the citizenship by Bitcoin donation law. Unlike the Freedom Visa which is a $1m Investment, there is no donation benchmark for citizenship by donation. Maybe this law will be well explained in a few days and the process of donation and citizenship will be explained better. Many of these donors might want to benefit from the opportunity the passport offers. Holders of El Salvador passport enter freely into about 102 countries which includes many developed nations. So rich individuals will just get their passports and move to other nations.

Quote
But my opinion is as mentioned above, it is good to have a country that is making first moves. Would be great if they published reports about their various programs and laws and how people took advantage of them.
El Salvador is a pathfinder to other nations when it comes to investing heavily in Bitcoin. The nation is gradually coming up with more details guidelines on how to invest in the country through Bitcoin. I am just hoping that Bukele will win the next election so that he can consolidate his achievements.
648  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ 2023 - FIFA Club World Cup - Saudi Arabia ⚽ on: December 24, 2023, 01:09:02 PM
It's a good thing that the Fluminense team was shamefully eliminated from the World Cup, they played well until 40 seconds into the game. lol

At least I can say: In Rio de Janeiro, only Flamengo has a World Cup
There is nothing shameful about Fluminense losing the finals against Manchester City. We know football is unpredictable but it was not surprising to see the match end 4-0. European clubs have always dominated the competition. Currently, Fluminense is not in good shape in the Brazilian Seria A and they are currently in the 7th position. Although the Copa Libertadores champions failed to beat the Champions of Europe and become the first South American team to win the FIFA World Club Cup, they should be praised for making it to the finals after winning games against some good sides.
649  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 24, 2023, 12:26:41 PM
Politano could not contain his emotions and let his team down, perhaps this violation did not deserve a second yellow card, but the referee made such a decision and this influenced the outcome of the match. Roma remained in the majority and after 10 minutes they were able to convert their advantage into a goal.

Osimhen's second yellow card was also dubious, it seemed that it was just a fight for the ball, nothing intentional, but it didn't matter anymore, because Napoli had no chance to equalize the score in this match anyway.
The second yellow cards on both Victor Osimhen and Matteo Politano was not justifiable. Politano never intended to hurt his attacker but he just expressed his displeasure mildly. This red card was the sole cause of Napoli's defeat because the first goal came after the red card. Referees shouldn't just look at some actions on the surface, there is a need to check the impact as well as the intentions. Victor's red card was not also correct, it should have been a foul without any booking. It so becoming obvious that Napoli might not be able to defend the Seria A title, maybe they should focus on making it to the Champions League next season.

But they can channel more effort to the UCL, where they will be playing in the second round against Barcelona. The suspension of Victor Osimhen and Politano is a big blow to the team because they won't be available for the game against Monza on Friday the 29th. Napoli will have to do the extraordinary for them to move up out of the current 7th position because there are many quality clubs ahead of them in the Italian league.
650  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 24, 2023, 11:29:25 AM
Right, we should not stick with the headline. It seems to me that the news comes from a press release sent by JAN3, the company that has made the proposal. In Suriname I don't know but in Colombia I doubt very much that they will make any considerable change in the policy regarding Bitcoin, although if it were to happen it would be considerable due to the size of the country. I think it is easier for smaller countries to implement policies like El Salvador and those are the ones we will see first.
I want to hear about El Salvador from citizens.
The official Chivo custodial wallet was launched by law in Salvador. The construction of Bitcoin City was announced and mining on green energy was allowed, but the population did not live better.
I’ll even say more that there are more bitcoins on the balance of this forum than on the balance of the government of El Salvador Smiley
I don't think I have seen any member from El Salvador in this forum. If you go through the El Salvador thread in this forum, you will see different good news about the impact of Bitcoin on the economy of El Salvador but I have never seen any comment from a resident of the country. There is news that making Bitcoin a legal tender has led to an increase in revenue from the tourism sector because many crypto lovers are now visiting the country.

Some reports also claim that making Bitcoin a legal tender has also attracted many crypto-related businesses to the country which has created employment opportunities and increased government tax revenue. But as we all know the country has not started making a profit from the Bitcoin it purchased but the government is willing to keep it for a long time.
651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 23, 2023, 04:00:21 PM
It's such a shame on Manchester United this weekend haven't lost again to a smaller club like west ham united it is a pain in the ass to keep seeing Manchester United playing such a declining level of football for a second time all in one season,  2:0 goals score from West ham is another seal to point to the fact that man united have a lot to do in this season if ever there will come close to the top 10 at the end of the season.
Manchester United have not scored a goal in four successive games and the club has also suffered 13 defeats this season. It was a big shame to see many visiting fans leaving the stadium ten minutes to the end of the second half. They were very disappointed with the performance of the team. They seem to be facing the same problem with Chelsea which is the inability to score goals after controlling the match to a larger extent. I blame Andre Onana for allowing Jarrod Bowen's second shot and  Kobbie Mainoo's mistake also caused a goal.

Quote
Many of the club fans have suggested that Manchester United should go in to buy new players in the January window but my question is,  will the new players be able to give the club the face turn that it deserves because In the long run, it will all ball down to the fact that the new signees will still be needing time to truly integrate with each other before their can perform well.
Manchester United's problem might not be a lack of quality players but the inability to maximize the players they have. I don't think West Ham parades the quality of players that the Red Devils have. We could hear the fans calling for the sack of Erik ten Hag during the match which shows that the coach needs to be changed. United have dropped to eighth position because of this unexpected loss.
652  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one did you use to gamble with more on: December 23, 2023, 02:26:13 PM
I prefer staking before matches start when I started to gamble as a newbie. I later prefer virtual matches. I left both to staking on live matches which is what I gamble with most on bookies now.

This is just for fun. Let us post and have fun to know which one that most people on this forum that are posting on this gambling board like most.

Do not gamble more than you can afford to lose.
I have never been attracted to virtual sports because they don't look real to me. I also see virtual games as an easy way of becoming addicted to gambling since you can play these games at any time of the day.  I prefer staking on matches before the game because I will also like to concentrate and enjoy the game. Betting only on matches also helps me to control my gambling activities.

Actually there is a high risk of losing money in virtual matches but i enjoy a lot and think more during the match. But if that match is won after i place the bet then that's complete peace of mind. Besides i feel helpless at some moments from casinos when i don't want to stop even after losing repeatedly. Also gambling in my area makes me happy but the amount of money is less and everyone criticizes a lot of things that happen to them. In fact we learn a lot from gambling and sometimes it leads to depression.
That's why I don't like Virtual bets, you could lose money very fast without knowing. The only time I can consider betting on virtual sports is when most leagues have ended for the season. We just have to manage virtual to ensure that we keep on greasing the wheels of gambling. Gambling doesn't lead to depression it is over-gambling that does. If you gamble with only what you can afford to lose, you will never suffer depression due to gambling.
653  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does casino streamers have influence in your gambling life? on: December 23, 2023, 01:56:03 PM
I came across on YouTube where a gambling casino social influencer was streaming about a casinos platform.
He literally brought out how phone and was illustrating to the audiences that it is just few steps to take the winning on your games which is making choice of your predictions, choose amount to bet and also indicate his hashtag referral code and click on confirm.
Immediately you get credited directly to your account that just won.
I just smiled but I want to ask, how many of you are creates interests on a particular casino platform due to th influence of the casinos steamers?
I am not influenced by these celebrities who claim to be teaching people how to gamble because they trying to lure people to a partuclur casino. These individuals are paid to promote the casino so they will only advertise the strength of such casinos. Even if I see these streams, I will always do my research before placing any bet on the platform. But I will always prefer to stick to casinos that have a presence in the forum because many of them have good reputations. In summary, these influencers hardly influence me because my gaming activities are already planned.
654  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the us dollar might crash significantly on: December 23, 2023, 01:17:10 PM
As joe Biden administration is planning to sieze the Russian central bank asset worth 300B us dollar to fund the war in Ukraine, it may sound logical but it is a move that will not only distabilize the world financial system, but it will also make almost all none western countries around the world to shift away from the dollar, euros currencies as foreign reserves, because no body will see such an event taking place and not taking actions to preserve it asset.
This to me is a very wrong move that will kill the trust that existed between the west and global south.
Major countries around the world will definitely interpret it this way, today it's Russia, tomorrow it will be us, and that action will crash the value of dollar and euros around the world.
https://www.businessinsider.com/us-eyes-using-300-russia-frozen-assets-help-ukraine-backfire-2023-12
The global economy is highly dollarized, hence it will be difficult if not impossible to avoid the dollars in global financial transactions. For now, the dollar has no competition in the global economic space so nations will still be forced to keep their reserves in the US dollar. There have been different efforts to create a currency that will compete with the dollar but none of them have lived up to expectations. Until there is a viable alternative, nations will still have to fall to the dollar, even if they risk losing it because of sanctions.

So let me get something straight, the funds have been seized since 2022 and most of the funds are in European banks, so what do they want to do with those seized funds? Return it to Russia? I don't understand how seizing the funds did not make other countries realize that " today is Russia, tomorrow it will be us" but using the seized funds how they see fit is what would cause an uprising against the West.

Let me explain what the OP was trying to explain. Most countries use the US dollars as foreign reserves and most of them are kept in foreign banks. Russia has huge funds that have been frozen in European banks due to the invasion of Ukraine. OP feels that many countries might be forced to dump the US dollar or the Euro as a reserve currency and also withdraw their assets from foreign banks because these funds could be seized if they ever have disagreements with the West. He is assuming that the fear of confiscation of funds, many nations might start seeking alternatives to the dollars to avoid sanctions.
655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gifted wife with bitcoin money on birthday and wife happily gifted BTC logo on: December 23, 2023, 12:49:37 PM
My wife was happy to receive my bitcoin money gift and she gifted me bitcoin logo which I think is very beautiful because she made it with her own hands very hard just to gift me. Many may not like it. But after I gave him the gift, he stayed up all night and made me this handmade bitcoin logo as a reminder that I gave him a birthday gift in bitcoins.
We have one life to live so we need to spend it wisely. We must use our time and resources to make ourselves and our family members happy. It is good to know that your wife was happy to receive what you could afford for her birthday. And she even went to the extent of also giving you a gift to appreciate your effort. Happy birthday to your wife and I pray that next year's celebration will be better.

Honestly, I see the forum as a big family. We cry together about the death of a grandmother unknown to us, and congratulate someone else’s wife. Grin
I couldn't help but laugh when I read this sentence in your post. We are indeed members of one community and will keep showing love to each other with words of encouragement and congratulations even when we don't have any means of verifying some of the news.
656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A piece of advise to everyone. on: December 21, 2023, 06:37:10 PM
I will advise my fellow beginners to respect some correction and not make arguments just to prove yourself knowledged. instead of arguing you can just learn without quoting them back and blabbing rubbish. even till now some senior colleagues are still arguing with themselves because they feel they have the knowledge which someone is try to inculcate in them.

Don't make a fool of yourself trying to prove a point for some nonsense reputation that nobody gives a fuck about.

Just a friendly advise..

The reason why people argue blindly is because they are ignorant. If they know more they would accept corrections and move on. There is no need to argue without knowledge because it is just a waste of time. However, we are in a forum where we are free to make our points based on our level of intelligence, so we are free to engage in healthy discussions. Sometimes healthy arguments lead to brainstorming which could lead to the discovery of new ideas and information. But if you observe that the member you are interacting with lacks knowledge in the area of discussion and is not willing to learn, I think the best option will be to ignore or abandon the discussion.

In this regard, we have two categories of people that make posts and argue about it, but first of all, I wouldn't want us to call it argue because the forum allows for having discussions and not argument, but under these two categories of people we have that make posts, some knows about what they are saying and were being right, so they can afford the time to argue with you down the line in their discussion on that particular thread.
There are no restrictions to the kind of discussion we can have in the forum. The discussion could be argumentative or others but we should argue respectfully and civilly. There is no need for insults or the use of vulgar words.
657  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 21, 2023, 05:12:17 PM
Does this mean that Suriname will officially adopt Bitcoin?
From what I understand from the article, Suriname wants to follow in El Salvador's footsteps after seeing the many advantages that the adoption of Bitcoin has brought to El Salvador.
Also according to the article:
Quote
JAN3 and Samson Mow are not only dealing with the Republic of Suriname. In fact, during this same period, it seems that Montenegro and Colombia are also at stake.
This means that Montenegro could also be on the way.
If this news is true, perhaps 2024 will be the year of adoption for Bitcoin. we hope so.
The summary of the news is that JAN3, a technology firm which focuses on promoting Bitcoin adoption in all the continents of the world is trying to make Suriname Bitcoin-friendly. JAN3 have just sent a proposed Bitcoin strategy to the government of Suriname. The government have acknowledged that they have received the document, so it will be studied and decisions will be made.

We cannot just assume that Suriname will be the next country to adopt Bitcoin after El Salvador because the proposed strategy is the beginning of a long process of adoption. The adoption of Bitcoin as a legal tender will have to go through the legislature for deliberation and approval. I am comfortable with this organisation because they promote only Bitcoin. I just hope that the organisation's efforts in Surname, Montenegro and Colombia will be fruitful.
658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local Base Or International Based Online Casino on: December 21, 2023, 04:43:54 PM
Do you have similar games in your country and if there are popular local online games what will you prefer local or international-based

OP we don't have a similar game in my country but we have this local game (pictured above) which is popular in local casinos. This game is called Ncho and has been in existence for a very long time. It is a popular game that is played by both children and adults. I have seen this game in some of the local casinos and it has a large number of gamblers patronising this game. This is because it is localised and portrays the local culture of our environment.

International online games are good because they have more financial backup and offer a variety of games. They also use modern technology which makes their service fast and entertaining. But I would prefer a locally based online games provider because they are registered in my country. It will be very easy to seek legal action if one feels he has been cheated. The government can easily call them to order because they are within their jurisdiction. Another advantage is that many local online game firm has a physical presence. You can always visit the physical officers if you are unsatisfied with the online support service.
659  Economy / Economics / Re: Micheal Salyor decalogue for a 10x Bitcoin Appreciation on: December 21, 2023, 04:12:00 PM
Bitcoin doesn't need a marketing department but if no one what Michael Saylor does, Bitcoin may be less known, which would mean less market participants, which would mean less price. Same goes as not having fiat proxies, like ETFs, or MSTR itself, which I believe is better than any ETF. Michael Saylor uses debt in a great way, borrows at very low interest, buys BTC, and increases the holdings of BTC of their company. Instead of charging you management fees diluting your BTC exposure, he increases it. This guy is great and is putting his money where his mouth is. He isn't bluffing, and he gets BTC. As a result, he does great marketing for BTC while helping the price. There's also nothing wrong about being on BTC to hold and see the price increase, that is a legit use case, basically the most basic one.
We need sincere celebrities like Michael Saylor who are diehard proponents of Bitcoin to keep spreading the news about Bitcoin. We all know that institutional investors are in the Bitcoin space to make a profit but it also affects the price positively. We need this support in the bitcoin system but there is scepticism that institutional investors are driving the Bitcoin space to centralisation.

the anti-bitcoin institutions like banks and investment companies that will be trying to fight bitcoin from becoming ....

I don't think that banks are anti crypto. They are just afraid of the pressure a government can give them.

Do you think that banks are against cash payments into bank accounts? They gladly would take millions if not for the government which would do something against them. If you have a licence, which moves money, employs thousands of people you just need to be careful.
Banks are profit-making organisations that will accept any business that will bring more gains. Banks in my country were comfortable with crypto transactions until the government came up with draconian legislation that banned them from dealing with cryptocurrencies. So I agree that banks are not anti Bitcoin but they just have to respect the laws of the country.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin miners extorting people that are making transaction? on: December 21, 2023, 03:49:02 PM
Did what my friend said somehow right? Is high transaction fee extortion?
I don't think it is extortion because the money they are making is legally earned. You won't also blame them because everybody wants to make a profit. If you are in their shoes you would want this inscription to continue. Except miners take a moralistic position on Ordinals inscriptions, it will continue because money is now the determining factor.

Miners aren't extorting people to spend money for transaction fees, it was created by demand, if you don't mind to pay $30 then do it, if you don't want to pay $10, cool down and wait until the mempool less congested.
This high transaction fee is a serious issue that is not affecting just individuals but businesses. Some businesses depend on Bitcoin to pay for goods and services so telling them to wait until the mempool becomes freer makes little sense to them because they need to make urgent payments. Paying high transaction fees will affect the profitability of the business. I think these businesses should consider using the lighting network or switch to an altcoin until the network becomes stable.
