641  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gaming promotions to earn actual money on: January 03, 2024, 10:20:29 AM
Have you had any such experience where you managed to play in a smart way to actually be able to cash out money intended for promotion?
Sometimes I do wonder why it is very difficult to win with money intended for promotions. I have received promo bonuses on several occasions but end up losing them.

The only time I was able to meet the withdrawal condition from a bonus was when I joined a certain platform and they gave me 100% deposit bonus and I was able to meet the wagering condition and withdrew a decent amountut of winning. I actually was not too desperate in this particular one because my past experience with bonuses made me not put hope. Maybe this was why I won with the bonus.
642  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto gambling and religious restrictions on: January 02, 2024, 08:48:34 PM
I try as much as I can not to delve into religious affairs considering that religion is a sensitive subject. My conviction stem from the fact that religion, which is supposed to be a personal and private affair, has been made so complex that it now divide humanity instead of uniting humanity.

Since we don't have religious scholars here, everyone should just chose what is convenient and align with their beliefs and do it privately. I really do not see the intersection of Bitcoin, a technology created to make life better, will be considered as bad from a religious perspective.  It is like a religious sect in my country that once said television was bad and that members should destroy their TVs and stop watching it. But when reality dawn on them after a while, the same religious sect is using television in their religious activities today.
643  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 02, 2024, 05:37:18 PM

Make your choices about how to allocate, and good luck if you are in the waiting camp.. Waiting may work out for you, and it may not.
One funny thing about the waiting camp is that they will always end up regretting and they are always saying how I wished I opted in. Even while they are saying this they are still waiting without taking action immediately. For me provided the money for investment is available I don't see the reason to keep waiting for any dip, funny enough the current price now might just happen to be the dip of the week or possibly the month.
I'm just learning about that new word today "waiting camp" indeed. They are not far from the fearful, the skeptics,  the perfectionists that want to enter at the perfect price if such thing as perfect price exist. Price of Bitcoin will continue to go up and down because that is how the market is designed to worm based on demand and supply.

Instead of spending so much time on the sideline waiting when the funds are available, why not simply adopting the DCA method by buying some while keeping part of the funds for future buy, in this case one is not only waiting for the supposed perfect price but already doing something now and maximising the opportunities the market offers now. The disadvantages of not being proactive in respect of Bitcoin accumulation is just too many.
644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees are high - a problem? Not for everyone! on: January 02, 2024, 05:11:29 PM
Maybe this is another in a series of topics about how the fees are too high these days, but considering that a lot of members are literally disappointed that they can't use Bitcoin the way it should be used, maybe we should clarify some things so that everyone would not continue to pretend that we live in a world where we should continue to expect that Bitcoin will become a global means of payment that will be used by just about everyone.
In my country, wẹ use local currency mostly and not using bitcoin or cryptocurrencies for spending. I have no option than to first convert my coins to fiat if I want to purchase something. I can say that many of us that were frustrated has been because higher amount of bitcoin is now required to move signature campaign earning and posting about it.

Let us hope something will be done about this mempool congestion.
In addition to volatility,  high fee is one of the things hindering Bitcoin penetration into the mainstream. People are increasingly becoming discourage to integrate Bitcoin payment into their businesses. Even when there seems to be a way around it, many people are not aware and those who are may not feel comfortable using them. For instance, not much people know how to use the Lightning Network, hence the reason it is not too popular.
645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and health concern on: January 02, 2024, 04:55:27 PM
It's New Year here in our country and I happened to bump into an old friend who narrated a story about how he almost suffered a heart attack after he won a big amount of money in a casino, this was several months ago, he's lucky that his son was around at that time so he got the right treatment at the right time.

He did not know that his hypertension had gotten worse since he can gamble even if he has this, he is taking medicines and doing relaxation but big winnings must have triggered this.

My question is :
Do you know the status of your health while gambling and what do you do if you happen to suffer a mild or hard stroke?
It is very important for anyone venturing into gambling to know the status of his health, unfortunately, many people do not pay attention to this. I find gambling as one of the most emotionally engaging activity so checking ones health and examining if one can handle the shock that sometimes come with gambling should be a good decision. For instance, hypertensive people are not supposed to gamble because no matter how well we try to surprise the pain or excitement that followers gambling losses and wins respectively, it will always manifest and might lead to crisis or those not physically and mentally fit.

This is why I make it a point to open my messenger and have my loved one that I can contact in case, whenever I'm playing alone.
If you get to this situation in your gambling, I will suggest you take a break because you might be doing it wrongly. This also agrees with the concerns you raise in this post.
646  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 02, 2024, 11:14:39 AM
I think Mohammed Salah has become a legend for the Reds and even though his teammates like Mane and Firminho have left before him, he still stays at Liverpool to continue the tradition. Even Jurgen Kloop will be very disadvantaged if he loses Mohammed Salah and he still needs time to find a successor to Mohammed Salah at Liverpool. An achievement we rarely see and huge appreciation for Mohammed Salah for reaching this level.
Salah is truly unpredictable and have remained relevant in his career. I was expecting the exit of Mane to weaken him somehow considering the role Mane played in the team. But Somehow, Salah always find a way to put the team in the spotlight, scoring important goals as Liverpool continue to make progress.

I was personally of the opinion that it was time for him to go for the oil money of the House of Saud, so his values will be high as he is still in his prime. But it seems he is not thinking in that direction yet. As long as he is getting the results at Anfield, I doubt Jurgen Kloop will be able to let him go. Liverpool's chances of winning the league is very high. They've got all it take to maintain their present lead even though the margin between then and Manchester City, their biggest rival, is not wide.

648  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in gambling experts predictions? on: January 01, 2024, 04:47:42 PM
Expect predictions can be helpful sometimes but not sustainable because gambling is a game of probability so no one is 100% sure of what the outcome of the game will be. No doubt the so called experts spend so much time analysing the games and have accumulated a lot experience because most of them take gambling as full time job. However,  we must still take caution when following the predictions of anyone irrespective of what they promised will be the outcome of the event. The key thing is to ensure we stake what we can afford to lose.

I do use some websites that drop free predictions for comparison only, and from there I make my judgement on what to play. What I will not do is to pay money to any supposed expert for any prediction.
649  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 01, 2024, 11:22:32 AM
so that we do not have to sell any BTC during our investment period.. and so after 10 years of investing you can reassess
I started investing with a lot of thought before investing in Bitcoin. I also know that investing in bitcoins is not only profitable, it can also lead to losses. I said in my previous post that I could have borrowed from my family and invested in Bitcoin but I didn't, I wanted to invest in Bitcoin with my earned money.
Everything we do in life has risk associated with it and Bitcoin is no exception. Bitcoin is exposed to the general risk that is common to all digital businesses such as losses due to hacks and theft, risk as a result of mistakes in keeping the wallet information safe where it can be accessed and remembered, risk as a result of incidents such as natural disaster and fire outbreaks and so on. Apart from these general risks, most of the risks people link to Bitcoin are man made and avoidable. They are mostly caused by fear and greed which can easily be eliminated or greatly reduced by adopting the right approach and developing the right mindset.

When Bitcoin investment is treated like every other form of investment, most of the risk will naturally go away. For instance, when we start a farming business, we following the necessary process of planting and waiting till period of harvesting before we expect some return on investment. No one start farming business today and is expecting to make multiple of his investment the following month or two. The same can be said of fashion business, real estate and virtually every other business. Unfortunately, when it comes to investment in Bitcoin, people want the huge return within a very short time. They are not ready to give it time and nurture the portfolio to maturity and when the expected fast return is not forthcoming, the FOMO and most times sell even at loss and retire to amplifying the risk of Bitcoin.

I'm yet to see a single person who bought Bitcoin properly and held for at least 5 years that is regretting today. Therefore, I feel the risk associated with Bitcoin is not fairly presented and most times exaggerated.

651  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Death sentence trap as people choice hustle on: December 31, 2023, 08:32:45 PM
My people I say make we reason this matter for here even though is not of Bitcoin or crypto the kind of risk and choice of hustle citizens involved in the society without taking second thought, and value of their life all in the name of making ends meet. I begin to reason the way I feel anytime I here some sad news involving on this crime if is lack of information or not properly knowing the consequences that make them, or is just personal decision. Crime like  kpo fire, human trafficking, drug, organ harvesting, kidnapping etc but my major focus is on kpo fire because it happens always in our environment where death news comes in the country almost on daily basis, shey be is the money that make people never to give up, or hardship abi  this one now government or leaders not helping citizens or poor knowledge on the side effects. Or frostration, if is poor knowledge are their no educated in the area where it happen, if frostration are they the only one? Help chok mouth
The truth is that risky activities such as illegal refining of petroleum product that is killing many young people is clear case of failure of the governments. A lot of proposals have been made to convert those illegal refineries to modular refineries with the boys engaged as part of the refining process but it seems like our governments are not interested in anything that will end poverty in the country. They prefer to keep the youths unemployed so they can serve them as political thugs.

Nigeria is importing petroleum products when we have enough crude oil and manpower to process them for our domestic use and then export, but the politicians prefer to sell the raw crude oil and important finished products so they will steal money from the process.

I do not support illegal refineries neither do I support similar risky activities but I try to see reasons why those people do it... they are helpless and mostly the people from the areas where these crude oil are drilled yet nothing goes to them. They are living on top of wealth yet nothing goes to them as the evil Land Use Act gives everything below 6ft to the federal government. They are responding by taking laws into their hands and risking their lives as well.
652  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: December 31, 2023, 06:39:24 PM
Why would you limit it to 4 years?  Even if you increase your investment to $50 per month that would be right around $600 per year and $2,400 in 4 years.  It does not seem to be a place to be stopping.  And let's say you extent that to 20 years, and then you have right around $12k invested, so now you might start to be getting somewhere in the event that your disposable income does not go up.. but there can be ongoing adding of value and then at some point it might start to become more clear if you should be changing your strategy or at what point you might be getting to be out of accumulation phase and into either maintenance stage or liquidation stage.. and surely from my own thinking it does not seem clear to transition from accumulation stage to liquidation stage without first going through a period of maintenance stage... but hey, each of us have our ways of thinking about these kinds of bitcoin investment related matters.
Actually I earn about 180 dollars per month doing masonry work. I put aside a day's worth of my paycheck at the end of this work week to invest in Bitcoin and my wife puts about $25 of my monthly income into insurance. We have done this insurance for about 10 years. Where we have to deposit 25 dollars amount money every month.
Perhaps you have figured out your finances to know that setting aside a day pay to invest in Bitcoin will not put you under financial pressures. I say this because it is one thing to buy Bitcoin and another to hold because holding require that basic needs are met and plans also put in place for little reserve funds in case of unforeseen events that may arise. If you get distracted by the excitement of being a Bitcoin investor and holder without making adequate preparations, a little change of events may force you to sell some or all your Bitcoin and this will discourage or demoralize you a lot. Therefore, inasmuch as it feels good knowing that you are saving for the future via Bitcoin investment

JayJuanGee After reading the post you quoted me I explained to my wife that if we invest the money in the insurance we are collecting into bitcoins our bitcoins will increase. We will even get more money if we invest in bitcoins than if we put money in insurance.
I feel there is a little challenge with this. Insurance serve its purpose which mitigates risk to your physical assets; have you thought about how it will be when you stop paying for the insurance and accident happens? Don't you think if this happens you will be forced to sell the Bitcoin you accumulated? We are not praying for accidents but we must always prepare for things that are not within our control.

Insurance is very important that is why many companies have even been studying how to insure digital assets such as Bitcoin even though they have not made much progress. I was fortunate to read about some of those companies that tried venturing into insurance of digital assets and I feel it is still an ongoing project.

I think insurance qualify as basic needs that should be prioritized therefore the money should not be channeled into Bitcoin.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My bitcoin journey has started again on: December 31, 2023, 04:16:56 PM
This might seems small amount to start with but if you do this consistently every week, by this time next year you should have about 0.183 Bitcoin which is around $5k using today's price. I will encourage you to keep it up because you are buying at the right time.
With the current high fees I think my signature campaign rewards will be stuck on my wallet and makes me wait for months or even years and I think this serves as an investment for me because I have no choice. 😅 Currently, I got .0022865BTC and weekly rewards keeps on coming, though just a small amount but still better than nothing. 😁
This might just be a case of a seemingly bad situation turning out to be a blessing. Without the high fees, maybe you would have spend your earned Bitcoin on other things. The situation you are in has turned to weekly DCA and the only challenge you will have is if there are other areas through which you generate income to meet your basic needs as well as set aside some funds in case of any emergency that will require money. With that in place you can comfortably hold your Bitcoin for long and hopefully the transaction fees will become better before you know it.

Likely I said before, the end of this whole things might result in you achieving a huge Bitcoin portfolio that you never imagine would be possible. I will still encourage you to keep it up, allow things progress as they would and see what the future holds regarding Bitcoin and your portfolio.

654  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 31, 2023, 03:43:37 PM
Arsenal is playing against Fulham today. I think this another opportunity for Arsenal to gain another 3 point. I don't see this game as a threat for Arsenal. I'm expecting a win from Arsenal and 3 or more goals to be scored in this match.
This is what the whole world expected but football has a way of proving everyone wrong. Today is a very bad one for Arsenal as their hope of winning the premiership title is about to be dashed. When Bukayo Saka scored his early goal at the 5th minutes, the excitement was second to none as Arsenal thought their title chase was alive and going well. Little did they know that Fulham will fight back. At the 29th minutes, Raul Jimenez scored the equalizer while Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored the 59th minutes goal that gave Fulham the lead. At this point, Arsenal fate is hanging in the balance and one thing that is certain is that their chances of winning the title this season has just became bleak.
655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin Deviated from The Vision of Satoshi? on: December 31, 2023, 12:41:49 PM
Look at the Bitcoin whitepaper once more: a peer-to-peer electronic payment system indeed. Was Satoshi really envisioning a payment system so widespread that it became a preferred way of paying for goods and services? What's happening today? Bitcoin is now more of an investment than a payment tool. In fact, it's as if all the cryptocurrencies are businesses for their inventors, bar Satoshi—a means of becoming automatic millionaires rather than a peer-to-peer payment system. In fact, the quickest way to get rich these days seems to be by starting a crypto project.

Not even the guy that started Bitcoin Satoshi Vision is exempted.

Bitcoin, a peer-to-peer payment system? Nah... more of a decentralized speculative investment platform.
Bitcoin have not deviated from Satoshi's vision for its creation rather it is doing exactly what it was created to do... to be a form of value and a medium of exchange. People keep the dollar in their bank accounts as a means of saving for the future, that does not mean others are not paying for goods and services with the dollar. In my country, many people have become millionaires by simply holding the dollar, which experienced explosive growth against our local currency.

That people are even holding Bitcoin and profiting from it is a good indication that Bitcoin is doing very well in line with the purpose of its creation.
656  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Inflation and crypto gambling on: December 31, 2023, 12:11:16 AM
But now I noticed something interesting. In my country Greece, the most popular and most participated lottery, which is also a legal monopoly, recently raised its ticket price to 1€, which is effectively a 100% increase from the previous minimum 1 ticket price of 0.5€.

I wonder if this is something that is happening in other countries also.
Perhaps crypto casinos have also slowly been raising their minimum bets without us noticing that much? What do you think?
You are right that inflation have altered a lot of things in society and probably the reason for the raise in minimum amount per ticket in your country. It also happened in my country across the local casinos where they raised their minimum amount per ticket.

Before now, we could place bet with as low as 10 cents but gone are those days. Even the Virtual Football League (VFL) has also been raised to over 20 cents as minimum per ticket. This can only be caused by inflation.
657  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Just think of holding and not the high transaction fees. on: December 30, 2023, 02:13:58 PM
There is no way to ignore the high transaction fees because it is affecting a lot of us who are buying Bitcoin regularly. I use weekly DCA method and the high transaction fees has forced me to make serious adjustments that changed weekly DCA to monthly DCA. Many people are also facing similar situation as I have read in many threads within the forum. So, there is no way to ignore the high transaction fees because it is an integral of the business bet it short term holding or long term holding.

By the way, I'm yet to see who is not bothered about the high transaction fees especially those of us buying with small amount, I'm not talking about the whales like MicroStrategy. No one will want to pay fees up to 10% of their capital, that is too high and totally discouraging. If you are encouraging people to ignore the high fees, you might be encouraging them to hold their coins in CEX which is not the best option as we all know the danger of using exchanges for Bitcoin storage, remember "not your keys, not your coins"
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will do to bank what Email did to post office on: December 30, 2023, 12:25:07 PM
I do not agree with this because Bitcoin and banks work side by side. The case of email and post office is totally different because Bitcoin needs the bank to make much impact whereas emails does not need post office rather it was an outright replacement.

Majority of Bitcoin investors did that via their bank which will always play a role at the entry and exit point of crypto to fiat conversion.  The day Bitcoin will destroy the banks like email did to post office will be when all the countries of the word will abandon their currencies to use Bitcoin a lone.
659  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The frustrations in loosing a huge bet when your winning was so assured. on: December 30, 2023, 08:15:17 AM
To those who considers making profits a priority in gambling, I have come to observe that it is much more frustrating when you looses your game at when the game was almost over and you were on the safer side (winning) and just a few minute or seconds before the game is over it ended up at your lost.
I come to understand that it is more worrisome when the sure winning opportunities was so huge and got lost lately closed to the end time of the game.
I don't think there is any assurance in gambling. What we are doing is prediction which can either work or fail. Yes we tend to believe that certain selections are sure but in reality, they are not. For the sake of your sanity, kindly bury this idea of assurance in gambling because nothing is sure.

I have experienced what you are narrating here and it is not a good feeling. There were times the last selection always cut my bets and I was thinking I was being monitored by the bookies. It can actually be frustrating.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally I did it (I am happy to join). on: December 29, 2023, 08:32:42 AM
Nice move man Congrats for finally having bitcoin my only advise for now "jus hodl" that 0.033 btc of yours can turn into a lot of profits someday don't be affected by incoming fuds  just continue to buy whenever bitcoin dips you can wait for the top of this bullmarket to take profit and wait for another buying opportunity.
Sure he  will keep that coin for long , because it took him some time , effort and knowledge before finally buying this means how important to Him having this amount and for sure that is just the beginning and will extend more and more before the great halving happens ,
or maybe he will continue holding for more years readying for His future and His family as well.
Congrats to OP and happy Holding , welcome to the Gang  mate.
If we have decided to hold Bitcoin for a long period of time of course we must have a good plan to be able to carry out what we have planned and it is also very important to have good knowledge to be able to hold it for a long period of time because if we don't have a good understanding about Bitcoin then we will be affected by bad news about Bitcoin, when we have a good understanding of Bitcoin of course we will be able to easily achieve the targets we have set and we also have to be patient before the big halving happens.
By "good knowledge" are you suggesting that holding require any special form of knowledge? Do you know that many Bitcoin tech experts may not even hold Bitcoin better than investors like MicroStrategy that are busy accumulating Bitcoin for years without selling. Basic knowledge of Bitcoin is all you need to be able to invest in Bitcoin and HODL.

In my local board, a lot of people started their Bitcoin journey this December as you can see in this newbies introduction thread, these are people with little to no knowledge of Bitcoin and the tech behind it, but within a month or two from now, we would have guided them on how to start accumulating and holding Bitcoin while still acquiring more knowledge of it like I'm personally doing. If they have to wait till they get detailed technical knowledge of Bitcoin, a lot of them will be frustrated and will abandon it for other easier things. I don't think we should scare people with this knowledge thing because even in conventional career, people learn on the job.
