Cheesy

644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 23, 2023, 12:20:51 PM

thats what "scaling" is for rather then "LEAPING"
just saying no is not the solution to LEAPING.. scaling is the solution to leaping

also SCALING is about the long run.. its not about the high-jump.. (two different sporting events)

Unfortunately, I don't follow you. I will quote myself:

Quote
To this extent, I think increasing the block size a little will not hurt, but I am against it because it will not solve the "problem" on the long run.

I don't want to increase the blocksize "just a little" because in my opinion it will not solve the issue.
I don't want to increase the blocksize "a lot" because of the reasons I have already mentionned.

So I don't want to scale, leap, high-jump, run, dive or do any sporting event.

If the blocksize scales "a little", I will accept it, even though I disagree.
If the blocksize scales "a lot", I am leaving.

So simple!

646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 23, 2023, 11:49:25 AM

I really don't get this logic .

There are many people who don't share the same logic that I do and it is totally fine.

There are people on the planet ( close to 50% ) that have no pc or internet access . Does that mean that the network should stop because of that ?

The network shouldn't stop. No! However, the inspiration was that everyone should be able to run a node.

To this extent, I think increasing the block size a little will not hurt, but I am against it because it will not solve the "problem" on the long run.

In case you are running a node , because someone else hasn't that comfort does it mean that you should stop having one too ?

I didn't say that. If someone doesn't have the comfort to run a node, it doesn't mean I will stop running a node. I will, however, keep the blocksize low, so that I don't make it even more difficult for them to run a node.

647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 23, 2023, 10:07:33 AM
But don't forget technology continue to progress, so increasing block size doesn't always mean sacrificing decentralization.

Of course, but it seriously depends on where you live. Unfortunately some people live in countries that don't advance in the same pace. Meaning that poverty is too high to be able to cope with the technological progress...
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: November 23, 2023, 09:02:32 AM
But in other words it is also another means of criminal to remain anonymous. And use it for atrocious dids. One thing is for sure, everything that has an advantage also has disadvantages. So we can not deny the fact that it can be use for money laundering. Its just like gun, there is a popular saying that "Gun dont kill people, people kill people" because gun can not on it's own kill a human, except it is use for such.

Of course it can be used for money laundering. Of course it can be used for illicit activities. So... ?

It doesn't matter what other people do with their money, just do your part and everything will be allright.

Any type of money can also be used for illicit activities with various techniques. It doesn't matter at all. You are not a criminal if an $100 bill that has been used for illegal actions 5 years ago ends in your hands. You can't know. You don't have to know!
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: November 23, 2023, 08:30:15 AM
I don't understand why people claim BTC is not fungible, but XMR is.

Bitcoin is fungible. I can send you 0.1 BTC and you can send me back 0.1 BTC and it will be exactly the same.

USD is fungible. I can give you $10 and you can give me $10 and it will be the exact same thing. Provided that the bills are not damaged of course.

XMR is fungible. I can send you 10 XMR and you can send me back 10 XMR and it will be exactly the same.

Monero (XMR) is indeed more private, being untraceable, meaning that you can't link the sender with the receiver.

However, Bitcoin and USD are both fungible. Indeed in Bitcoin you can go back to the coinbase transaction that created the UTXO that you own. But, so what? History doesn't spoil fungibility. If it did, then you wouldn't lend your friend $50 to buy his favorite PC game, because he would never be able to send you back the exact same dollar bill.

Personally I mix my UTXOs. The reason is not that I am afraid that the UTXOs I own are linked with illicit activities. I do it because I don't want anyone to know how much I own. The history of my UTXO isn't erased after the coinjoins. The only thing that happens is that I make my UTXOs unlinkable, so if someone sends me 1BTC, they will always know they have sent me 1BTC but thanks to coinjoins they will never know which path this UTXO has taken on the blockchain. And YES! Monero has this by default!
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:57:02 PM
Yes, exactly. So again, I warn everyone NOT to use the site.

This is how you got scammed. Please edit the original post and add a warning that this website mustn't be used. Make it clear.

Unfortunately the owner of the website got access to your words. He used a template that he got from Ian Coleman's website. He is a lazy bastard... He told you "no worries, I only want the hash160, here is website to convert it".

And ... he got access to your funds... I am really sorry mate.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:49:15 PM
I DONT want anyone to put any information to this website. The person who I gave the hash recommended this site.

So did you import your 12/24 words there in order to get the hash160 and hashkey ?
652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:42:21 PM

My guess is that the operator of the site has access to any key that’s being converted, if not why don’t they make it run offline?

I totally agree, but why did OP mention this website in the first place and where did he find about it? With a single search on google it didn't come up. The resemblance with Ian Coleman's website is uncanny, which leads me to believe this whole topic may be a scam, unless OP proves me wrong.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:38:36 PM
What about the hash key?

I am not sure I understand this. You mean the hash of your public key?

In the website you posted: hash160.com says "hash key" but there is no way I am ever going to put my seed phrase there, just to see what it is.

How did you come across this website? It looks very suspicious man! It is basically a copy of this https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ but I can't understand what is the use of this website you have asked about.

654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:31:26 PM
No, only the hash 160 and hash key. Thas why I want to know if its possible to get access to the wallet with this information.

Essentially hash160 is derived from your public key if you apply SHA256 and RIPEMD160 to it. Check here: https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/public-key-hash

Therefore, there is no way if someone knew this that they could steal your money. They would need to go backwards from hash160 to public key and then to private key. But this is not possible.

Here is the id 2e64b508a83af549b5616622ae45bb8d8c2031e0dd098a6564ce22079336566b
Its confirmed

Unfortunately, there is nothing to be done, it has 10 confirmations. Also unfortunately you lost a lot of money. How did it happen? Did you give someone your seed phrase? The 12/24 words you have

P.S The person who stole your money used a fee of ~240 sats/vB, which was x4 the fees at the time. Which looks like the thief wanted it to be confirmed ASAP.
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:17:08 PM
Yes I got scammed, there is a transaction with the full amount to another wallet.

Would you like to share the transaction id? So we can look to an explorer? If there are confirmations, unfortunately there is nothing you can do. In Bitcoin, transactions are irreversible. Sorry!
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:10:21 PM
I know it was very stupid, but I shared the hash 160 and Hash Key with someone and now my wallet is empty. That's why I'm asking if you can get access to a wallet with the two things

what do you mean? do you have the transaction that emptied your wallet? seems like you imply you got scammed. Sorry to hear this.
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hash 160 and Hash Key on: November 22, 2023, 06:03:32 PM
Hi,

if I use an website like hash160.com to generate Hash 160 and the Hash Key from Phrase Words, is it possible to get access to my wallet?

I have never heard of this site. It suspiciously looks like this: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ which is legit but must be run totally offline.

Does anyone know of hash160.com ?

Also, what do you mean get access to your wallet?

Sorry to say it, but your post seems somewhat suspicious. Hope you prove me wrong.
659  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fair and unbiased coins have a bias to land on the same side they started on: November 22, 2023, 05:26:20 PM
Probably because someone getting a degree in statistics had to choose a subject for their thesis...

This is exactly what I hoped I wouldn't get as an answer  Tongue

Do you think this "thesis" proves anything? To me it doesn't!
660  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fair and unbiased coins have a bias to land on the same side they started on: November 22, 2023, 04:48:14 PM
A group of researchers carried out a test to investigate the randomness of fair coin flips.

They collected 350,757 coin flips, recorded the results, and concluded that when a person tosses a coin in the air, it has about a 51% probability of landing on the same side it started. This same-side bias varies and is different from person to person. Some have almost none or very little bias, while others display a more significant bias.

This is interesting.

I will read the paper, but I don't have enough time currently.  To be honest I am not surprised. However, can someone who has read the paper tell me why did the choose to do this research? I mean we all know from our school years that true coin toss will give 50% as long as the number flips tends to infinity.

So couldn't it be just a coincidence even though the flips where that many?
