641  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 27, 2023, 03:44:46 AM
I understand that psychologically people are afraid to buy at lows, not understanding that this is a sale, and thinking that this is the death of Bitcoin. But he is immortal, and this is explained by the fact that he has already been buried more than 470 times.

https://crypto.news/bitcoin-has-been-buried-over-470-times-in-14-years-a-review-of-obituaries/

It can take a while to get conviction regarding buying bitcoin, buying on dips and ongoingly buying... so sure there are elements of BTC price performance (and also the performance of any markets) that attract people to buy on the way up and to sell on the way down, which is the opposite of what they should be doing... so it is not necessarily easy to get ahead of such inclinations that normal people have.

I totally agree with you, @Jayjunagee. While speculations and predictions are important qualities that can be acquired relatively quickly, what i feel is more important is conviction, a quality so many investors lack especially those new to buying Bitcoin. When I talk about conviction, I mean that a Bitcoin investor should comprehend the underlying asset to a level where they feel at ease, all the while continuing to educate themselves by considering opposing arguments. Conviction offers so many benefits to investors, including,

1. With conviction, one can listen to opposing arguments with an open mind, assessing them for possible outcomes.

2. Conviction will help empower investors to navigate economic downturns and seize opportunities to acquire more Bitcoin during bear markets. It helps to fight against blind speculation, helping majority of Bitcoin investors make informed decisions based on a deep understanding of Bitcoin.
642  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 26, 2023, 10:14:08 PM
Many thought that Everton after being in the relegation zone thought that it would add motivation to the team and they could win Man U... But the situation on the contrary affected the team negatively... By the way, bookmakers gave a sweet odds on Man U's win...

I was one of the persons that had the opinion that Everton were gonna beat Manchester United today in their English Premier League game and that's majorly because of the fact that the club was deducted of 10 points after they were found guilty of breaching financial rules in the league. But while watching their game against Manchester United this afternoon, I didn't see an Everton side that was hungry for a win. I think the mentality of the team players has been significantly affected by the points deduction because they played like they've already conceded defeat before the game kicked off.

Manchester United to the surprise of many were very impressive from the beginning to the final whistle if the game and where playing like team who really wanted all three points by all means which they got by convincingly beating Everton.
Maybe you had your hopes too high. I was expecting the game to be a very tough game for Manchester United. Maybe i though wrong. Definitely this is Manchester United biggest since the start of the season. Both the starting and finishing in the game were ok. At least  i was impressed by the performance of Gernachio, how he controlled the ball on the leg and made an early overhead kick which gave them the lead against Everton. Despite, the pattern of play Everton came it was meaningless at the end. So bad that they could not even score a goal. However, it's been quite a long time the Manchester United forward were able to work well and score goals, but we saw that today. Perhaps let it be a new start for them and continue with the spirit.

Also, am surprised by how well Aston villa has played this season. Their win against Tottenham today they really deserve it. Regardless of the two red card and some injury players that has befall Tottenham this season, Aston villa made good use of the opportunity where some other teams may jeopradize the chance.
643  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Many Bets to Know How Good Enough You Are? on: November 26, 2023, 10:06:42 PM
Since most of the betting platforms stores betting history. You could go back after so many consecutive bets and check net profit an d net loss. Compare them which is greater than the other. Then you would know how better you've become in gambling. Most times you would notice that the number of winnings is greater now than when you started betting. Unless all your gambling bets are being given to you by professionals or persons who have been in the system for long. Otherwise you would see your progress.

However, in my own perspective I would prefer if performance level should be checked based on the ability to always walk away when your ahead. This is something that most gamblers do not pay concentration on. They may be good at winning beta but lack the ability to stop whenever they have increased their money.
644  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can a gambler be a good bitcoin trader? on: November 26, 2023, 10:27:20 AM
My most concern is that people feel that cryptocurrency is gambling but literally only those who day to day trade are gamblers. Trading is a form of gambling are have more similarities in common. Both of them depends on predictions, speculations and risk. Another aspect that the  financial news favors the trader perspective and the statistical performance if a team and news regarding players presence or absence also favors a gambler. Trading is more like gambling. It's mostly done for short term gain. There is nothing like I have high IQ, more educated or made more researched as long as you can't see the future. That I'll consider a gambling whether trading or gamble.

In general a person who feels he can manage his emotions can gamble at the same time still trade since he has thee finance, capital or equity. The only common challenges for both a gambler or a trader is capital. Sometimes they could loss their capital in a trade or a bet. So they need to start all over again unless they have another source of income.
645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 26, 2023, 10:05:44 AM
Manchester City was very ambitious to win this match, Guardiola tried to direct his men to continue to pressure Liverpool, a number of attack attempts by Manchester City were unable to break down Liverpool's defense which resulted in the match ending in a draw. Losing two points meant Manchester City had to drop to second place because in another match Arsenal managed to get an additional three points at Brentford headquarters. This time Klopp managed to stop Manchester City by stealing one point at the Etihad Stadium. This result met Klopp's initial target because he realized that it was very difficult to win at Manchester City's headquarters.

It is this kind of draw that clubs like Liverpool will celebrate wholeheartedly. Because I didnt expected Liverpool to be that consistent in maintaining a draw especially when I saw that it was easy for Haaland to net the first goal in the 27th minutes of the first half. I thought that will turn out as a doomsday for Liverpool in the second half, couple that Manchester City was playing at home. I thought it will become an advantage for Manchester City going forward.

My assumptions changed the moment in the second half after Klopps substitutions which in no time Salah was able to give a great assist to  Aenold who balanced the match with an equalizer goal. This have gained Liverpool an extra one point and affected Manchester City to top the table and on the other hand given Arsenal the edge to lead the table once again with the goal they scored in yesterday's match against Brentford. Some draws are like loss in some instances. Interestingly.
You made it sound as if Liverpool is a small club. Perhaps you forget that at all seasons Liverpool are very competitive for the EPL title. Liverpool is a very good team, performing very well this season and I have predicted that Mancity will not see the league title this season. It would be Liverpool or Arsenal. I have seen how small and big teams play in this season and I know it would be difficult for Mancity. A team like Liverpool that could perform very well even if they have two men down. Such a team is qualified to win the title. So I am not surprised at the 1:1 draw between Liverpool and Mancity. They shared the point which is good instead of them loosing. This shows they are both ready for the competition.
646  Economy / Speculation / High transaction fees affects those who DCA on: November 26, 2023, 01:28:16 AM
The current Bitcoin fees wouldn't have mattered to me because I am not selling, but the fees do matter because I DCA, and I don't want to leave my coins in the centralized exchange. This month, I have spent roughly $5 to $10 in transaction fees when I DCA every week. It may seem small, but in my country, it's enough to cover my feeding expenses for a month cumulatively.

I discussed this issue with my friend, and he suggested I use an exchange that utilizes the Lightning Network. According to him, this would help me get off with no fees any day. While I'm considering this alternative, another option is to wait for a month or two, then use the amount we kept for weekly DCA, hold it for a month or two, and lump sum. This way, i would incur just a one time fee. What are your thoughts on this? I feel like I may use the money kept for DCA for other expenses.

It’s all over for Chelsea as Newcastle has scored yet another goal to increase the scoreline and solidify their lead and chances of having a win in this game. Gordon for Newcastle scored the 4th goal almost effortlessly. The game is pretty much over as there is no coming back from this for Chelsea. And being a man down doesn’t help their chances.
Newcastle has been dominant in this second half and has controlled the game unlike the first half. I thought Chelsea would have a fighting chance and it briefly looked like they did in the first half of the game.
Good game and a likely win for Newcastle.
5 extra minutes. Enough time for Chelsea to try and equalize? Or for Newcastle to add to the scoreline.
There is no hope for Chelsea now as the game will end in a 4:1. Am not surprised that Newcastle has dealt with Chelsea today  There were a lot of conversations previously that Newcastle has a lot of injury players and that Chelsea will use that as an advantage to win Newcastle. But then I was against that statement. Newcastle may not perform well in the UCL but in the EPL I believe them to perform incredible regardless of the casualties before them. By January we will see a different game entirely from Newcastle after they have signed new players. I am certain that they will successfully come out top 5 in the EPL so that they can have another chance in the UCL next season.
650  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot games are a waste of time and money (most of the time) on: November 25, 2023, 08:56:45 AM
Yeah, I personally feel that slot games are a complete waste of time and money most of the time, I got this bonus from btcgosu's partnership with BetFury which awarded me a 77 free spins.

Bonus is still available for anyone to claim on https://www.btcgosu.com/blog/news/unleash-the-black-friday-magic-get-77-free-spins-with-code-gosu77-at-betfury/

I played slot game with the free spin and ended up with a total win of $16, but also hammered with a wager requirement of about $750 before I did be able to withdraw.

what a great marketing technique for casino owner who give 77 free spins but can't withdraw funds because there are requirement for betting that big  😂 your fate is really unfortunate because you can't collect your winnings that you have obtained with the free spins, but you are lucky because you didn't make a deposit to continue playing the slot in order to fulfill the withdrawal requirements that must be fulfilled.

Just think of this as entertainment for you because when else can you use the free spins without having to sacrifice a lot of your finances and it does seems like a waste of time but you only use the money you get from your winnings and don't use your personal money but if you make a deposit To continue chasing victory, you will increasingly waste your time and money in uncertain amount.
I think there is some sort of logic behind casino slot machines. Not all of them are considered to be big scams for taking people's money. Sometimes they do pay out, and sometimes there is a loss. I'm having a thought that they are programmed to give 70% back to the house and 30% to a few lucky winners. This is why slots are called gambling. The winning is not certain, but you bet to win by chance.

There is only one casino game that I feel the winning probability is equal to the losing chances, which is blackjack. If a skilled player or someone who understands the game very well, they could win more than they lose, thereby giving them some compounding winning interest at the end of the day.

However, slot machines are designed and programmed to make you addictive. Even when you keep losing you still wants to play because of how you interact with the machine, the whole flash light thing is very attractive.
651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: VAR Rules and gambling on: November 24, 2023, 10:22:09 PM
So just to be clear, the final result of the match was 2 - 1, and you betting on a draw would have won if it was 2 - 2.

Why are you expecting the VAR decision to not count though?
Bets are settled based on the final score. And if the league sets its final score based on VAR decisions, then there's little the bookie can do.
You can't realistically expect a bookie to not settle a bet at all just because VAR was involved. That would make a lot of other bettors unhappy.
You're right. I am assuming the match was already close to the end when he placed the bet and if so, the fact that the odds were 2.05 is enough reason to be suspicious of the situation of the game, another thing is live games are more volatile and more likely to go wrong because one is predicting a match based in the current situation which can change any time, and some matches can receive up to and sometimes more than 10mins of added time which is enough time for things to change in the game, unlike betting pregame which one is more likely to predict correctly because one can analyze based on current forms, injury forms and previous head2head meetings.
Staking such a huge amount is not advisable for live games, but can be beneficial in basketball games and not in football games. The booky knows this and expects you to be informed on the disadvantages of VAR in staking live games so they would not admit to any fault or void the game due to that.
652  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why the rich win gambling more than the poor. on: November 24, 2023, 10:00:37 PM
I have observed that the rich, I mean those who are financially comfortable, win more in gambling than the poor. By poor, I mean those who do not have enough to meet all their needs. I don't know the reason for this. Could it be that the rich understand financial management more? Or could it be that the rich are less desperate to win which make them make better gambling decision? I really want to know the reason for this pattern I have observed.
This is a very valid observation because it is a fact, but one important factor that comes to play as you mentioned is "financial management". If you have noticed, the "rich" usually stake higher for smaller odds as they are more likely to be won, some can stake on odds as low as 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, without exceeding 3odds while the "poor" would usually aim for bigger odds hoping to get rich from odds which can range from 20odds to sometimes even above 200odds with smaller amount of money, knowing fully well the probability of a large number of games(odds) to be won is slim.
I believe this is the primary reason why the "rich" is more successful at winning gambles than the "poor".
653  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 24, 2023, 09:48:11 PM
I agree with you. At the moment I don't see any chance of Chelsea winning this game. Although the bookies predict this will be an even match but one important note here is that Chelsea are very inconsistent and they often lose against average teams. Newcastle are in their best form and of course they have good statistics in the league this season.
Why don’t you see Chelsea winning the game? The reason that you give sounds somehow to me, I know Chelsea has been inconsistent this season, but they are playing well lately. Chelsea have been losing against weak teams. I agree with that, but don’t you see how they have been playing well against strong teams? Newcastle is playing well this season, and you also know that. I am expecting the match to be a difficult match for Chelsea, but Chelsea should be able to win the match. All you are talking about is Chelsea playing poorly against weak teams, but you are not talking about how they are performing nicely when playing against strong teams.

In many periods last season Man United had a hope of a great return. But looking at the current conditions, expecting them to have a trophy seems to be difficult. Ten Hag failed in building a team with his philosophy.
I was also expecting Manchester United to be among the contestants for the Premier League this season, but as we can see, their performance is kind of poor this season. I don’t even expect Manchester United to end the season in the top 5 with their current performance, and I am not seeing any improvement in the club's performance. Ten hag made some failed signings in the last transfer window, and I guess the club is having an internal crisis that is really affecting the club's performance.
I kind of agree with your opinions on this Newcastle United v Chelsea  match, currently both clubs is suffering some significant absence in the field due to injury and suspensions with the likes of Burn, Murphy, Wilson, Botman and Barnes out for the Newcastle team as well as Chalobah, Chilwell, Fofana and Nkunku out for the Chelsea team.
It is not going to be an easy game for each of the teams, i believe that with Sterling's current form, he'll be able to create alot of chances for Chelsea, Newcastle in the other hand is not in a bad form equally but may find it hard to comfortably win Chelsea especially given the fact that in their previous 5 meetings Newcastle has only managed to win a single game and equally drawn a match while Chelsea has won 3 of those 5 meetings and drawn 1.
Chelsea is in a better shape and form ton win this match or the fixture could end in a draw.

655  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much do you Trust Bitcoin ? on: November 22, 2023, 11:28:39 PM
Everyone trust the banking system and the internet without understanding how it is been operated yet so many times the trust has been broken but will still make use of them. But Bitcoin was made so you don't have to trust others, which means you've got to trust on but yourself. You don't have to trust it, that's the nature. This is because no one knows what the actual price at any moment will be. The technology is great so it's on you to avoid scams and take steps to keep your investment safe and risk free.
656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: unnecessarily quoting by members of the forum. on: November 22, 2023, 11:09:57 PM
I have only come across this type of replies in megathreads, mostly in gambling and speculation. If a person has to make this type of comment, they likely did it for a reason. There are some conversations where you have to go back to where it all started before you can understand what is being discussed. Most people do this so that anyone who enters a discussion can quickly read and understand where it all began. I don't expect a random person to jump into any argument or discussion without knowing the reasons.
657  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Season on: November 22, 2023, 09:07:47 PM
~snip~

In Leverkusen, they only have Victor Boniface as the most productive striker. Patrik Schick still gets injured, it will take a long time to recover. If Leverkusen lost Victor Boniface, there is no alternative for an experienced or quality striker.

Maybe Boniface is the most productive striker now but he isn't the only productive player in the team anyway. For example Grimaldo (6 goals) and Hofmann (5 goals) have also been really productive as for scoring goals.  Smiley

Schick's absence is really bad for Leverkusen indeed. But Xabi Alonso has built such an amazing system that the team are still playing very amazingly. The teamwork is so strong that they are still scoring many goals in most of the matches they play and getting comfortable wins. Maybe sometimes they can drop in form but I don't think it would last long with a system like this.
This is true. Ever since Boniface was signed in Leverkusen he has performed very well. It surprised me a lot how he was able to adopt to the team play and the country lifestyle. Definitely his ex-club Liverpool will be missing his absence while watching how he strikes for Bayern Leverkusen. Currently he is their most esteemed striker so if anything should to him, there will be a lot of lapses in the team. Boniface has seven goals in eleven matches, and he is currently in a race for the highest goal scorer in the Bundesliga.
658  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: This idea go reduce our daily expenses. on: November 22, 2023, 08:53:31 PM
Good day my country people I come with another good idea way go make use spend lesser for this hard time way everything just dey cost like say tomorrow no dey, this period way fuel cost e make transport self add money so I go like share this good idea way go make us no spend too much.
This one nah electric bike

Just this morning I watched one video for social media way one guy dey advertise electric bikes and I con like the thing way the guy dey talk about so I say make I carry am come this our local board for this forum because nah only us nai know how e take dey for our country.
This electric bike we fit carry am go work, strolling and even go markets to buy something's, you fit still even use some carry somebody and e dey easy to drive just like the way gasoline motorcycle dey, now way the price of fuel dey up if we get am e go reduce our expenses small nah just to charge the electric bike that's all but you go need engine oil, but that one nah once in a while, I see the one of $300 and I try to order am online
Just some days ago wey I just dey reason this matter consedring the rate which fuel they cost and how people dey manage to hardly survive, so I com they reason about to buy rechargable byk wey fit reduce the rate of expenses. I no even know say these topic don already dey here. I come also get second thought about  am because another  disadvantage wey dey dere na lack of electricity or low power supply. We no get steady light and e go affect for charging just like @brainboss talk. If to say na Sola rechargable byk e for better because Nigeria dey always get heavy sun so as you dey ride am dey go na so e dey recharge am. Another thing too na durability. how long e go fit last or the distance e fit cover because checking the price tag of this machine as of them, maybe by now e go don cost now. And e no go good make person go buy wetting no go fit carry person go far distance.
And I dey reason say our government no go too put body for the impotation of this machine because them go see am as threat to there market. For those wet dey impoet petrol machine. Because them go see am say if machine wey no dey use petrol come out people no go buy there own product.
Bros you done check the price of this electric bike before you wan buy am. And also, the spec of the bike. Like how long e go last for raod. And for something like that, e sef no go to reason am. Because the battery capacity of that bike go they very high so that e go fit store enough voltage insisde am. I done reason am say the place i they live weting ah they pay for electricity no be small thing. Currently now ah they on my air condition for complete 8 hrs, once the environment done cool small ah done off am. Ah they regulate the usage of the meter system for where ah they live. Talk more of to come go buy electric bike. Omor that one go suck electricity weting no go do o. If i charge am completely full ah fit done burn all my meter finish. And ah no they certain how long e go last me.

Infact the cost of operation go they high too. We never reason the cost of maintenance. Since nah battery something, from to time battery fit weak and person go wan change am. So, the battery go they expensive, more expensive than that of the inverter batteries, nah so i see am. Make we no go move from one problem to another. I believe say this matter of fuel something go soon they balance for everybody, and we go adapt.
659  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bad market for businesses wey de accept bitcoin. on: November 22, 2023, 08:06:24 PM
So how una reason di matter, na for di businesses to suspend to de collect bitcoin for now, till di congestion clear? For business owners to bear di fees alone, or push am to dem customers? Have in mind say customers fit to say dem no go pay am and di seller go lose di sales wey im for make profit ontop.
The common means of payment is the use of fiat, just like the use of naira for paying for goods and services in Nigeria. I hardly see any business that is accepting bitcoin in Nigeria and I do not think this should be a problem. You can not do what will affect your business, you can still include bitcoin but let customers pay the fee. I am expecting no one to use bitcoin for now for paying for goods and services. Naira is better and which is what that is used.
You might say you have not seen a physical business that has to do with Bitcoin as a means for payment. But there are lots of digital products that uses Bitcoin as a means in funding, trading, payment etc. in Nigeria. I have purchased some football kits (Jersey and thug from an online store which i paid in Bitcoin). But currently I can't do that because of the congestion so perhaps if there are many customers in Nigeria it will surely affect their business.
660  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: BTC future discussion( based on halving ) on: November 22, 2023, 07:57:46 PM
Hello guys another post from your humble boy  Wink lol ....

My post today is based on future possibilities of BTC, no one can predict the future though but....
let's all have a look from this angle ,I have some few  topics (not really  a topic ) and I will want us to discuss with my opinion already added

Main:
halving value
Today some thoughts came to my mind that if btc is going to be halved every year will it be in accordance to the magnitude of the halving comparing the digits because I believe at some point the value will be a minute valueat some point

The current halving
6.25 =>3.125
 Next
3.125 => 1.5625

Till ............ it will get to a point of 0.0.....

DISCUSSION:
at this point (0.0..) what happens to the value of BTC

my opinion: I believe at this point it's either it come closer to a stable coin or it gains a lower volatility. At that particular point I believe the halving value could be negligible compare to the value of the BTCand also,   it should maintain a low margin range between  the support and resistance level

Question:
will the price value gain pump in accordanceto the halving value

OP you're misunderstanding the entire halving process.

Firstly, Bitcoin halving does not occur every year. How does the Bitcoin halving cycle operate? Initially, miners received 50 BTC for each block they mined when Bitcoin was first created. This attracted early users to participate in mining, even before the success of Bitcoin became clear. The process involves reducing the rate at which new Bitcoin is produced by half every 210,000 blocks, which happens approximately every four years.

However instead of Bitcoin to gain a lower volatility, it will have a massive increase in the price which most person expect to be the next bull run. It has happened repeatedly and its likely to repeat again. In the past, roughly November 2012, when the price of BTC was about $12, the first halving happened. A year later, Bitcoin's price went up to almost $1,000. The second halving occurred in July 2016, and at that time, Bitcoin's price dropped to $670 but then went up to $2,550 by July 2017. Bitcoin also reached its highest price of about $19,700 in December 2017. During the most recent halving in May 2020, Bitcoin's price was $8,787, and it reached its highest ever, nearly $69,000, by November 2021. We are expecting to see what the next halving would be next year during April.
