Gold in general is no better. Yes, bitcoin doesn't meet the definition of a currency but that doesn't mean that it will not be around in the next 10 to 20 years. The major characteristic of a currency is its stability which bitcoin doesn't provide. Bitcoin's price is too volatile for that. But having a market capital of $249 billion at present, bitcoin has made its place in the economy and is not going anywhere in the near future.
