Just an idea, but wouldn't it be a bit more interesting if the timer only resets if the last payment bursts a bubble?
Thoughts? Concerns?

Thanks for taking the time to read my idea :-)

There's already Bidding Pond, and I believe another auction site I can't recall.

Bitbid, and a few others, but biddingpond seems to have the most actvity.
646  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why don't we use the computing power for something useful? on: May 18, 2011, 07:30:56 PM
Some people have mentioned folding protines, and what happens when a cure is found.
What about working on a way to integrate all boinc projects into the miner and some how make the hashes with boinc work units.
I don't know enough about codeing and distributed computing and cryptograpy, but it seems like there should be someone out there smart enough to make it happen.

I realize many see the processing of transactions as the useful computation, I don't see the harm in helping other projects while were at it (other than the security of the network, so work on making it able to calculate other projects more securly), Bitcoin will be the most powerfull distributed computer in the world, utilize it to its maximum potential.  It could bring more people to support bitcoin.  Its not impossible, its complicated

Found them in the wiki history though.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Debit/Gift Card? on: May 10, 2011, 09:43:04 PM
Bitbills was just announced.  Its similar to what your talking about, its a physical gift card.  It has a qr code under a scratch off hologram.  No rfid chip though.
650  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Credit Union on: May 10, 2011, 03:59:54 AM
Good idea

Had this thought, could work out nice for the credit union and the bitcoin community

Make a bitcoin gift card to be sold in Brick n Mortar stores.  Similar to the Visa prepaid cards or green dot, that are sold for $5 plus the value of the card.....

just found bitbills  this could work.

652  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Handheld Bitcoin Wallet on: May 10, 2011, 03:36:58 AM
I doubt this is what they were doing with the receipts but it could be...

When I was at DefCon a few years ago there was a tree at the Alexis Park Hotel
Many receipts were posted on that tree.  I think there was a note on the tree worked out like this

Don't need your receipt- leave it here.

Need a receipt, grab one here.
(people in need of a receipt usually worked for a company that would refund them for their receipts.  Its like money grows on trees)

Good idea

Had this thought, could work out nice for the credit union and the bitcoin community

Make a bitcoin gift card to be sold in Brick n Mortar stores.  Similar to the Visa prepaid cards or green dot, that are sold for $5 plus the value of the card.

This could help it get some exposure, People would see it and at least wonder what is is, then BTC will start to get some recognition.

Getting very computer literate people to use BTC is hard enough, especially now that PayPal has shut down CoinPal.  Getting the common folk to use it is an even greater challenge, many of them still don't know what PP is.

Not sure how much the stores get out of the $5, but the rest would goto the Credit Union for Servers, Coders (high volume trading?), and into the interest rates.

Hope to see a pool set up with a large prize to be won for getting this setup.

I think its only the Credit card type gift cards that require an ID (when you open the thing up you get a fed law requires... of course theres ways around it, but usually the card is less useable), going against some of the intents of bitcoin.  I think the iTunes and Facebook "credits", gift cards don't require ID and have a set price.  Might need to use carrots.

Probably need to get some mom n pop type stores, and hopefully someday into larger chains/franchises. Anyone know a mom n pop shop in a geographic area with a high concentrations of BTC users?  I would think some of the already established users would go buy some just to support the store for starting to take them.

Would be nice to have the store be able to load any amount the customer wants and have the cost based on MTGox.  Probably need to just sell a set value like $20 USD worth of BTC (+$5 fee for total of $25) and then when you sign in you get the current exchange rate, around 5 BTC at todays rate.

Would be nice to get the gift card fee down to $2 (maybe, yes thats high for $20, but good if your putting $500 in, not sure where all the fees go on those cards) to keep with the low transaction fee standards of BTC.

I could see this causing a rapid increase in value of BTC if someplace like 7/11 started carrying the gift card, especially if they would start accepting, to the point where the decimal would need to be moved.

Anyone know someone in a position to make this happen.

659  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin Bubble Game (with jackpot) on: April 27, 2011, 05:31:25 PM
Would like to see how much needs to be spent till the bubble bursts, instead of 1.5x the spend.
I don't see a good reason to do this since you can already see the amount needed to burst next bubble in statistics. You can also calculate the amount needed for other bubbles by adding up all fees.
Once the lotto is won will the bubbles go in with the bursted bubbles or a separate category.  I would prefer to see them in a separate category.
Once the bubble game is restarted all bubbles in that round will be removed from "bursted bubbles". It will start completely from scratch and last round will not be visible for users. I will add option to view last rounds jackpot and who won it, and maybe if there is enough demand I will also add the possibility to view bubbles (both bursted and non bursted). Smiley

Because its a lot of adding if its not on the first page, or a lot of subtracting from what is marked as needed to burst all bubbles on the last page.
660  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Earn 131BTC or 12-13BTC for getting shops/organisations to accept Bitcoin! on: April 27, 2011, 05:15:49 PM
I've asked the following to take btc
http://www.foregen.org/  (med research in foreskin regeneration)
Seti they've had budget problems, I suggested they make their own mining pool
And a few other places I'll have to think of and come back and post.  I did all this befor ever noticing this thread.

also I've come accross many fed reserve notes with bitcoin.org written on them;)
