642  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: KNC Neptune - Problems on: December 11, 2015, 03:46:29 PM
The seller is going to send me a replacement card - my friends card worked all the cubes no problem, so it sounds like a faulty card :O

643  Bitcoin / Mining support / KNC Neptune - Problems on: December 11, 2015, 01:06:00 PM
I have a KNC Neptune with 5 cubes and LCD controller. Seller showed me a video working, packaged it up and sent it to me. I have it here now, and it does not recognized the cubes are plugged in nor does it start mining. It shows a yellow light after it starts up for a split second, and then it has both a blue and green LED on in the same place and a flashing blue LED. It does not hash or recognise the ASIC boards are plugged in. It recognised one cube ONCE and it started with a flash white light not yellow, but now its back to the yellow flash again. What is it likely the problem is? The one time it worked the display showed Neptune XXX with the IP address. It says miner status stopped. I can get into the interface. I notice when feeling the chips for heat (with an ESD wrist strap on) one of them burns my finger to the touch, the biggest one. Is this a sign of a bad controller board? These are insanely hard to get!

650  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] mmpool.org - 1.5% fee DGM/PPS - tx fees/vardiff/merge mine/tor on: December 06, 2015, 02:19:43 PM
I have pointed a small 100TH rental at this pool, hoping to help it hit a block! This will be the primary pool for me for two neptunes and kanos will be failover 1 and my own bitcoin node on my server will be failover 2. It might be a bit down on luck atm but its worth sticking through thick and thin... How has the costs of the pool been covered with many months without a block? Merged mining? I ask cause part of the reward is PPS so it can only go on for so long?

What happens to the DGM payouts if the pool hits but the 25BTC isn't enough to pay the DGM payouts of everyone in the pool? I currently have 0.04btc in DGM payments, for example Smiley

Jacob

EDIT: No luck I'm afraid for this one
651  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: SPV Mining and how to slow it down ... if you care to ... on: December 04, 2015, 08:07:44 AM
You'd point your domains to HIS pool if your being DDoSed? Even if someone DDoSed the IP addresses? Smiley

You guys are quite a sizable pool, so why do you feel it right to mess with competing pools in that way? I think this should be stickied because one of the major pools trying to do this to smaller pools... Might convince some miners to jump ship who don't appreciate this sort of thing. I don't mean to be rude, but this has been handled very badly. Not trying to start a flame war, but to fiddle with competitors pools in that way and then threaten to divert any attack from your domain to their pool, doesn't that make you as bad as the DDoSer themselves? This is not what satoshi would have wanted at all, all mining pools and solo miners alike are in this together. Fiddle around with not building on blocks from certain pools (even though you are not doing that) for example is one way to risk the stability of bitcoin and then crash its value making the currency and your equipment worth less.

Just my two cents...
652  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Solo Mining Experiment, two years. starting with 3 S3s and 1 U3. on: December 03, 2015, 09:16:18 AM
Still hashing Cheesy the 3B share from nicehash during the failover seems to be the highest so far Cheesy Hashing away : - ) I aim to put 3.5TH of neptunes in a pool but I am waiting for a new bank card so I can pay for it and start mining with it!

It seems interesting discussions and has explained a lot. I was more curious to the communities view and it seems like there will be more than enough to go around! I went to bed early so only just read all these replies Cheesy

2,099,999,997,690,000... an insane number. Sorry if I seemed stupid it was a curious question and I do find that currently I need a minimum spend before one can send coins with the current wallet client... Id bet widespread adoption would change the whole dynamic of transaction fees and the like? Especially if people were not owning whole bitcoins, the transaction fee would become more noticeable and would need to be adjusted? Sorry if I seem dumb on this front its been a curious thing for me its a psychological thing about having 1 complete bitcoin, or is that just the way the wallet reads it out as in 1.xxxxxxxxxx so its kinda deceiving... Everyone only having 0.xxxxxxxxx would seem odd

Now you've explained that to be, so the actual form of the currency is measured in the smallest units, not the 'BTC' measurement which kinda was psychologically deceiving! Should have done the math and checked how many satoshis there could be : )

655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A flaw in bitcoin, if it became widely adopted 21m bitcoins, 7b people on planet on: December 02, 2015, 08:21:46 PM
Well this is what I want to discuss, what are peoples thoughts on it. The fact it can be spent in any denomination is good, but it seems quite bizarre. Unless its just how my mind works. The fact they can be spent in any denomination is a good thing, I am just curious and it is the only flaw I can see when it comes to widespread adoption. Not counting coins slowly 'lost' over time if people lost their private keys, etc and coins already lost to such a thing. Which over time, would bring the supply down even further.

More curious to see other community members thoughts on this aspect of bitcoin. The tight supply would keep them valuable of course, meaning it is worth something but I am more curious that's all on other people's takes on these limitations. Been bugging me for weeks now so needed to put it out there : )
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A flaw in bitcoin, if it became widely adopted 21m bitcoins, 7b people on planet on: December 02, 2015, 08:17:56 PM
This is not a flame or diss at bitcoin, but it is something I can't get out of my mind. I love bitcoin, and would love to see traditional banks loose their grip. But its one teeny flaw, that I am not sure how it would be addressed short of a hard fork.

7 + billion people on the planet, of which most of those handle a currency of some description.

21 million bitcoins. Would mean that if it became widespread no one human could ever have a 'full' coin but it could be spent in smaller denominations.

Discuss. I feel this is an interesting issue I am curious to hear others opinions on.

Quite a blunt topic I know, but I am insanely curious on this one.

657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NFO] Total Altcoins 2015 on: December 02, 2015, 08:05:48 PM
The crapcoins will increase inline with bitcoin difficulty Cheesy

As stated here
I'm so tired of seeing so many CrapCoins pop up everyday and nobody at least admits their coin is total dogshit.

and....

No more need to cringe at the thought of how many billions the next ShitCoin is gonna have.  There is not an idiot big enough on this planet to top 100 Trillion.  That's way beyond monopoly stupid.

Truer words were never spoken... Seriously... Apart from litecoin and UNO and maybe a couple of others, SHT proved a point... Worse many trumpet so badly how litecoin is dead, out of all altcoins it has plenty of miners, ASICs and is still worth £3 a coin, so its valuable and is still living.

Premine a load while difficulty is low... then when its worth something offload, that seems to be the same as the maker usually (not always) wants a way to make a quick buck so wants to get in while its easy (As the maker they have first pickings) and then when it catches on... Many of the crap coins even have 'bitcoin core is shutting down' or still has the word 'bitcoin' somewhere in the wallet client... Usually but not always changes are a new logo, change of the block reward slightly, max money supply, and a couple of other tweaks, offering nothing new.

Bytecoin was a good idea but the 80% premine stank... Monero is an OK idea but not user friendly enough...

Nuff said!

The space heater design sounds awesome... Something I might consider with one of these, I wouldn't run one at full clock but they might as well be used
660  Economy / Computer hardware / KNC Neptune WANTED on: November 28, 2015, 05:22:57 PM
Does anyone have a KNC Neptune available for sale with PSU and for how much? I am looking at buying a pair of these (2 lots of 5 cubes and controllerS) I have one held for me already as they are cheap and I have people with free power in student accom willing to host them for me so the higher power consumption isn't a problem. I also would like one of these for heating in my own place (as I calculated I can make the heating cost back in BTC and a bit more that slowly pays off the equipment what is the price I am looking at? In the UK? I am willing to pay in BTC only if escrow is used or paypal preferred Smiley Due to the lower cost it would be easier to ROI with the free power opportunities. Plus I am interested in downclocking them all anyway
