6421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did Satoshi use GB English and international English ? on: July 12, 2021, 07:48:53 PM
but that doesn't make me based in Britain.

You said it before me. I do use expressions like "bloody hell", but I'm far from British.

up to the point that he tries to post around the clock to hide his time zone. Does his writing style really say anything useful about his whereabouts? I doubt it. Same for Satoshi.

Not at all. People can easily have strange sleeping schedule if they work on big projects they like, off work. Or people who travel a lot.
I could maybe say, based on such a schedule, that he probably doesn't have small kids at school Cheesy but not much more.
6422  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Workaround for high transaction fees due to a lot of incoming micro tranactions on: July 12, 2021, 04:49:20 PM
but I thought that there's a minimum fee one should use

Yes, there is always a minimum fee, which is 1 satoshi/vByte.
Now, you do have a point, a low fee transaction will probably not be mined if there are better transactions to mine. But these days the mempool is almost empty. Last night (EU) there were mined 1 sat/vByte transactions and yours may as well get mined. See https://mempool.space/ and https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h for details.
Also, if not mined, the transaction will return to you in a few weeks and no fee is charged (so it's not "lost in the blockchain"!), so you can try again when the time is right.
6423  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Workaround for high transaction fees due to a lot of incoming micro tranactions on: July 12, 2021, 04:38:57 PM
Hi all,

a couple of years ago I thought it might be a good idea to go to some random websites that offer you fractions of a BTC for watching advertisements. Nothing much at the time, but considering the current development, I did manage to collect a little amount. And there's the problem. The two wallets I tried want to charge ridiculously high fees for the transactions, which would cost me approx. 60-70% of the total amount. After a bit of research I found out, that this is a result of the very small transactions I received during the ad period and it's basically like I was trying to pay everything in pennies. Now even though I know the problem, I still don't know whether and how (if at all) I might be able to work around all this...

Maybe you guys have an idea.

Thanks in advance Wink

Hello & welcome

Indeed, big number of small inputs can make your transaction very expensive.
The way to handle that is to import your private key(s) or seed into a wallet that offers coin control features (Electrum could be a good choice, but make sure you download it from Electrum.org and verify it too)
Then make sure you set 1 satoshi/vByte transaction fee, so you don't pay too much, even if it may take longer until the transaction is confirmed.
And if the fee is still too big, give up on the smallest inputs.

What I recommend is to also read this topic, since it is exactly for your problem, consolidation of the small inputs: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2848987
6424  Other / Meta / Re: Is there some sort of Godfatherism in the forum? on: July 12, 2021, 04:27:57 PM
I believe most will agree with me that there is a high probability factor that people give merit to those who merited them in the past, therefore creating a merit ring.

This may easily happen indeed. Just imho the reason is not friendship or whatever strange relationship you'd think, it's more like certain people discuss mostly on certain boards and that's where they give and receive merit. Clearly they'll give and receive merits from other people with similar interests.

But if this is true, then such individuals are cheating the system

While it can easily happen that some would cheat the system here and there, I don't think that it can happen at a large scale, since people will notice more clearly and the scammers would get tagged.

there is no clear or postulated indicator that credits a post merit worthy

You're right. And this makes more wide the reasons people would merit a post; some would merit even a post for being funny, for example. But the main reason for merit remains the usefulness, which also may be seen different by different people.

Without the merit system, I can't imagine what the forum would look like. There won't even be any interesting subjects to talk about just shit posts flooding every board.

Not all spammers care about merit though. Hence we still have a fair amount of spam/garbage.

You are imho too focused on what others do, while your goal seem to be to receive yourself more merit. And then I'd say that you may be doing it wrong.
Posting more useful stuff - from tutorial to spot-on answers to people needing help - could get you more merit than threads like this. But you have only 43 posts, so there's still plenty of time to improve.
The forum is not perfect, but it's great. Enjoy your ride!
6425  Economy / Economics / Re: Green European funds may deal a blow to Tesla on: July 12, 2021, 11:18:13 AM
The fact that Europe will publicly subsidize these changes means that Tesla will no longer have that competitive advantage and that one of itīs moats will be gone in 5 years.

This was far from unexpected. It was always something like "when", not "if".
Tesla is losing by increasing too slow the production. And if they continue like this, at some point their production will become too big and no longer much demand.
For now, however, they're still on safe side. There's plenty of market yet for Tesla. If they'll have a breakthrough in the research/development in batteries, they'll keep an edge for longer. But the competition is getting near.
6426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did Satoshi use GB English and international English ? on: July 12, 2021, 10:57:43 AM
I'm not saying anything for sure merely curious why Satoshi would use international English and GB British English.

It can be that Satoshi was/is more than one person.
It can be that he was trying to confuse the followers. (I don't think so).
It can be that he was not English native.
It can be that he was British and the exceptions were made by some auto-completion.

Most probably we'll never know.
6427  Economy / Economics / Re: Cybersecurity workers shortage in USA on: July 12, 2021, 09:48:47 AM
Europe & USA are not taking this seriously enough

I think that's - by large - also caused by "inertia" and lack of knowledge. Too many big institutions don't understand computers, they would still prefer to work with papers and don't understand why this had to change and now they can also show that they were right.

On the same page, many of these institutions will think that paying some proper networking and security engineers is an overkill/unnecessary expense (and it usually is, until *that* happens to *them*).
The users are also careless at best, combining work e-mails with personal, send out "funny clips" to co-workers and so on.

The operating system also, instead of helping users understand file extensions so the user doesn't just "run" any random file, whether it's a worksheet, a movie or an exe, it hides the extension to people stay in oblivion.

Interestingly nowadays there are Linux distros that are as user friendly as Windows for the basic user and they could be used safer. But somebody should know about this when the acquisitions are made. Acquisitions also made by people with no knowledge in IT.
6428  Economy / Securities / Re: Seeking investment for ANONYMOUS file storage and sharing website (FREE TO USE) on: July 12, 2021, 09:23:35 AM
AnonArchive is a free, privacy/anonymity-oriented file sharing, storing and distribution platform, with a completely unique website, and form of security, completely controlled by the end user, we are a service to beat! We allow anyone, to store any files they wish completely anonymously, with optional encryption (AES-256).

When people will start storing copyrighted material and complaints will come, you may have to take those files down. Do you have a mechanism for that?
And you may have to change the "store any files" part too.

For now, this "business model" seems to simply ask for troubles.

There's an inconsistency in the "description" part.

It may be max 100 MB/file (or archive or chunk)?
6429  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could this be true about covid-19 killer vaccine on: July 12, 2021, 09:13:56 AM
The rate at which vaccinated people are dieing these days is alarming

The deaths by COVID19 were at alarming rate. In certain countries they had difficulties even handling properly the dead. Of course, it depends on each country's medical system how well it works. The numbers are between 0.05% and 19.49% (!!!) of the infected.

Now let's compare with the vaccine.
From what I know, the number of deaths caused by vaccine is under 1%(*) and the number of deaths of people infected after the vaccine is again under 1% (I've read also 0.1% in certain countries).

Of course, none of the numbers are accurate, there's clearly under reporting and over reporting here and there, but the scale of the difference is big. The problem is that news want sensational and now they have news about each and every dead person related to vaccine, while the (still happening!) new dead from COVID19 are no longer interesting and no longer in the news.

I don't say the vaccines are "wow so good". There may be long term effects we may see in 5 or 10 years only. Even the fact they are arguing a 3rd dose may or may not be needed is an image on how small is the amount of knowledge and how big is their greed.
But you reading only the sensational news will make you have an incorrect view of the reality. So please search/research more, read about the actual numbers and compare. For now the numbers tell that those who took the vaccine seem to be on a safer side than those who didn't.

Also, if you don't want to take the vaccine, it's fine, it's your choice. But you should thank those who took it, since they help human kind by reducing the chances the virus get to spread more.
On the other hand you are scaring them off. So... you are working against your own interest.

(*) I'm not sure about this number, I've seen somewhere something like 0.61% though.

PS. This topic may be more appropriate for P&S
6430  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: building a mynode rasp pi on: July 12, 2021, 08:52:13 AM
I want to find out do I need to buy the 99 software and why.  If I must buy the license  its fine.

I don't have a myNode, but from what I see, if you don't need the bolded features/software, you can safely use the free community edition (and yes, the community edition is totally free)
And that's what I would have been using for a test/start and see if it's enough. If support is needed, you have a good chance to receive it here, and I guess that this is where most of that money matters, since probably some remote control software and BTC pay, if needed, can be installed separately by hand.
6431  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Trusted Bitcoin seller for PayPal? on: July 12, 2021, 07:03:33 AM
Hello, any legit and trusted bitcoin seller for PayPal in this forum or maybe some site?

Paxful fees is huge and requires ID. Local bitcoins requires ID and localcryptos starts at minimum $100.

Any recommendation?

Thanks.

The problem with PayPal is that it's a reversible method and most avoid it. And since it's you who is using PayPal, no offense, but the actual question is if you are to be trusted...
However, if you do find a seller, just use a proper escrow for bitcoin (you'll probably have to pay one more tx fee, but that's rather small) and you will be fine.
6432  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 12, 2021, 06:54:23 AM
I feel sorry for those who missed the penalties, I guess that the pressure was too big to handle, but the problem was in the first half. England should have been continued to play and score instead of doing that lame waiting game after the first goal.

Italy's first goal was rather lucky, but their comeback afterwards was impressive. The stats are all in Italy's favor, but I think that all could have been different if England would have used better the psychological advantage they had in the first half.

All in all tough luck England, congrats Italy! And why not, congrats UEFA, this late EURO 2020 was better than many others.
6433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will taxes be imposed on Bitcoin? on: July 12, 2021, 06:27:40 AM
Because a major feature of Bitcoin is: anonymity.

For the 100th time, Bitcoin is not anonymous. Bitcoin is pseudo-anonymous.
While in theory nobody knows if a certain address is yours, everybody can see all the transactions made with that address.

If I use BTC to make a purchase, do I need to pay taxes to the IRS? If BTC is anonymous, how does the IRS know?

Similarly, if I buy cryptocurrency on the cash app and transfer it to my personal wallet, will this be considered a sale of my coins? How will the tax bureau track all this?

If you gave your details for one of the transactions your address is involved into, IRS can link that address (and related transactions) to your person.

Provided that tax is required in the trade of cryptocurrency, do I still need to pay the tax when I'm losing money in the market?

Afaik no, but this depends from country to country and I don't know exactly how it is in US.

Well, game is on again.
6435  Economy / Economics / Re: How long will it take for CBDCs to become a reality? on: July 10, 2021, 04:15:53 PM
I wonder how long will it take for CBDCs to become a reality?

China is very close to that. Many people have already received e-CNY presents in order to spend them fast and see that the system works.

we'll be heading to a new era where paper money will cease to exist

As long as internet is not available on each and every square inch of Earth, no, paper money will still exist for quite a while...

Now, the real deal would be getting people to adopt a new kind of money when they're used to paper money and credit/debit cards. Not everyone is quite fond with crypto/Blockchain tech these days.

CBDCs are not necessarily blockchain based currencies. Most probably not blockchain at all.
And the people don't actually care. If there's getting developed a simple way to spend the "new money", people won't care about the underlying tech.
And I don't think that's too difficult or expensive to develop PoS (point of sale) equivalents for "the new money" as soon as there will be demand for them.
6436  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.com - Makes things difficult to send BTC, am I the only one? on: July 10, 2021, 04:05:31 PM
I think that something is not necessarily wrong, but in an unexpected state for blockchain.com software, which probably has bugs too.
I will go by the first answer: get your recovery phrase and recover / use your wallet from Electrum, preferably on laptop; just make sure you download from electrum.org and you verify you download too (!!)

And if you have big amounts of money in Bitcoin, I'd suggest you also consider buying a hardware wallet.
6437  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How to buy BTC with Credit Card or PayPal? Urgent on: July 10, 2021, 03:44:59 PM
If other platforms are also OK, from what I know Binance also allows you buy Bitcoin with credit card, if you are from a certain list of countries.
I don't know though how quick (or slow?) they may be. The details (and tutorial too) are here: https://www.binance.com/en/support/faq/8df758a570ba4d18941f38423f63aae5
6438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Wallets: How to keep them clean? on: July 10, 2021, 09:28:46 AM
Lets say I have 100 Addresses with 0.001btc and consolidate all in one Address to 1 BTC. Will my fees not rise after some transactions, because i create new UTXOs every time? Am I thinking about this wrong?

After consolidating, when you got to 1 BTC "in one piece", each new transaction will send some money .. somewhere and the change that comes to you will return to your wallet indeed, but usually at a new address.
This means that the remaining money is still all in one piece, hence the next transaction(s) will not get more expensive.

So your transactions would be:

1. Consolidating:

address 01 |
address 02 |
.............. | --> address 31
.............. |
.............. |
address 30 |

2. Then your 10 spending txs:

address 31 --> | recipient whatever
`````````````| address 32
address 32 --> | recipient whatever
`````````````| address 33

...
...

address 40 --> | recipient whatever
`````````````| address 41
And you'll end up with money only at your address 41.
As you can see, all the transactions will have only one input, hence the fee won't be unnecessarily big.
Also, as optimization, when you know that you have to pay to more recipients, you can also do pay-to-many transactions like
your address X --> | recipient 1
```````````````` | recipient 2
```````````````` | ...
```````````````` | ...
```````````````` | recipient 10
```````````````` | your address Y

since it's cheaper than 10 1 in, 2 out transactions.

I will add that the (change) addresses I painted in gray you don't have to provide, the wallet should handle that by itself.
6439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get satisfaction from payment schedule of this forum? on: July 10, 2021, 09:11:31 AM
ARE YOU STUPID?
All answers were given long ago Angry Angry Angry

There was (is?) another forum that was paying (some peanuts) for each and every post, no matter how stupid and duplicate it was as long as it was not reported and deleted.
I have a feeling that OP's aim is to do here the same, not realizing that here this won't work.
6440  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Do You Eject Your Hardware Wallet Before Disconnecting It from Your Computer? on: July 10, 2021, 09:06:36 AM
There is no need to "eject" a hardware wallet from your computer

Thank you for the reassuring.
I've never looked for the "eject" for the HW since I've never thought it would be needed. So I've always simply unplugged mine.
This thread scared me a little, thinking that I may have been at risk to destroy my HW; but the actual links/documentation just settles this for good.
