Don't forget the ATF/DEA/FBI also sells them grenade launchers.
...and then tries to blame it on private gun owners.
6442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Drug Lord Douche bags: on: July 12, 2011, 06:08:03 PM
The real drug lords don't need Bitcoin because they get large financial institutions like Wachovia to launder money for them and nobody goes to jail with they get caught.
6443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The state of bitcoin in ireland. on: July 12, 2011, 05:35:16 PM
People in the Ireland are only going to flock to Bitcoin if the whole Euro appears unstable, not just the Irish economy, which it's not at this point. The strength of the better off Eurozone nations is really blunting the effect these debt situations from Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain are having on the Euro, for now.
I wouldn't bet on that situation lasting much longer.
6444  Other / Off-topic / Re: Regarding passwords on: July 09, 2011, 03:21:59 PM
Is Lastpass.com a good idea?
I've never had any problems with LastPass. I've even used the one-time password feature to access my account while traveling internationally without ever having it compromised.
6445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cracked Passwords List Leaked, were you cracked? on: June 28, 2011, 08:08:16 PM
That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! The kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!
6446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cracked Passwords List Leaked, were you cracked? on: June 28, 2011, 07:48:35 PM
Hash collision seems really unlikely to me. The odds should be microscopically small.
It's microscopically small for SHA hashes but MD5 has been considered broken (or nearly so) for a few years now.
6447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cracked Passwords List Leaked, were you cracked? on: June 28, 2011, 07:22:34 PM
I doubt that these and the many more that are on there 1) got phished and 2)wound up on this particular list at the same time. Well, except for the last guy. Though I do suppose that is an upgrade to using 'password' for a password Tongue
Well, aside from *MAGIC*, by what other method do you believe those passwords were determined?
I can think of three possibilities:
Password reuse
Malware
Hash collisions
6448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can Bitcoin help my people in Venezuela? on: June 25, 2011, 11:25:15 AM
I have family and friends in Venezuela who want to purchase computers and cameras from the US, but have a limit imposed by the government of 400.00 USD Max per year on On-line purchases. I do not live in Venezuela so I do not know any details of why this is so...Can Bitcoin Help? How about Cuba?

Maria.

Your friend can set up a porn site which accept and only accept bitcoin. Then he can buy computers and cameras at memorydealer.com directly, or just sold the bitcoin at tradehill.com or bitcoin7.com, then purchases the computer and camera.
This is actually a fairly reasonable solution.

If you want to use Bitcoins to solve this problem there are two aspects to consider: how people in Venezuela can obtain Bitcoins and how they can spend them. The spending part is has already been covered but as far as obtaining Bitcoins what you need is a product or service that you can export, ideally something that can be delivered over the internet.
6449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public Key Infrastructure on: June 23, 2011, 06:53:11 PM
Given recent events is there any good reason for websites dealing with Bitcoins not to start migrating to gpgAuth, or at least making it available as an option?
6450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is the best way to secure passwords? on: June 22, 2011, 02:14:41 AM
I've been very happy with LastPass.
6451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: is pgp compatible with gpg on: June 22, 2011, 02:02:25 AM
If by "compatible" you mean that one program will recognize encrypted and signed messages created by the other then yes.
6452  Economy / Economics / Re: I am going to spend my coins. on: June 22, 2011, 01:49:19 AM
Are you looking to buy anything in particular?
6453  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin local meetup (Philadelphia) on: June 22, 2011, 12:23:42 AM
The more people that join the Meetup community the more useful it will be for this kind of thing.
6454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gmail unusual activity on: June 19, 2011, 10:21:40 PM
Situations like this are why I'm glad all of my passwords are different and random.
6455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ALL mtgox password has been compromised, change asap, everywhere you used it on: June 19, 2011, 08:16:05 PM
Change them asap, anywhere you used it.
If anyone out there is still using the same password on more than one site then take this opportunity to stop doing that. Get some kind of password manager and use a different random password of the maximum length and complexity each web site you register on allows.
6456  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the $15 barrier be broken? on: June 18, 2011, 12:57:54 AM
Like Madoff? Or insider trading regulations?
Madoff wasn't a big player.

The big players get to launder 1/3 of Mexico's GDP for the drug cartels and suffer only a token fine equal to a single digit percentage of their profits.
6457  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the $15 barrier be broken? on: June 18, 2011, 12:41:06 AM
You can bet they are trying to profit with inside information if they can. Why wouldn't they? They are not subject to any laws or insider trading rules like stock exchanges right?
I hate to break it to you but the big players on Wall Street aren't subject to any laws or trading rules either.
6458  Economy / Economics / Re: It's growing back on: June 17, 2011, 11:49:49 PM
I predict a massive rally 10 minutes before my Dwolla deposit shows up.
6459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: goons are crashing the market again on: June 17, 2011, 04:50:05 PM
I don't get how the price is going down after a difficulty increase... anyone able to englighten me (and others)?
The price of bitcoins is not determined by the difficulty of mining them.
6460  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Silkroad: good/bad/indifferent on: June 17, 2011, 12:16:26 PM
I'm not sure you guys are getting my point - politicians are largely on the take. The degree to which Bitcoin enables criminal activity is the degree to which the criminals in Washington DC (and other places around the world) will find it useful to keep around.

It's very similar to the situation with Tor.
