6441  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying 18 bitcoins for $90 via Paypal on: February 29, 2012, 12:37:59 AM
Good luck finding some willing to accept your Paypal without a solid reputation.  Paypal is openly hostile to Bitcoin, and will freeze accounts for 6 months if they find out you are dealing with them, not to mention the chargeback risk.

So lets say you had 20k BTC.
You sell on gox and now you have $100,000 USD.
Send $100,000 USD to Bitcoinica.
Go Long with leverage.
Price goes up = More profit due to leverage than if you had stayed in BTC in the first place.
Plus you will just jack up the volatility doing something like this... this can be good to start a rally.

Just my guess.

Why not use the 20k BTC as margin to go long with leverage?

Because you could get a lower base price then you really should have been able to in that situation without the 20k being sold.  Basically you make a bear trap.

Meh... I don't like to rely on other to panic for my strategy to work.  I suppose if I had 20k BTC, it might be more reasonable to do so, but you only get a lower price if enough people panic in response to your relatively small volume sell.

The Internet is basically a utility, as is the mobile phone network. Yet as far as I'm aware they're mostly privatley owned. And much more complex than other utilities. (and much cheaper)

Private ownership does not mean private control.  The Internet is a government creation.  The US could destroy it if it wanted to by messing with the dns system.

The US could temporarily inconvenience people, and make namecoin holders rich by messing with the DNS system.

6445  Economy / Marketplace / Re: A Comprehensive Comparative Look at GLBSE Mining Companies on: February 28, 2012, 08:09:27 PM
Hmm...After this guide is completed, would anyone be interested my offering of an asset that trades all the mining companies?
It would be based on the findings of this guide so not every company would get an even investment. They would be traded based on risk and reward, vs a blanket buy of everything.

Basically a publicly traded portfolio.

Yes.

But you don't have a contract with the state.

Well, the state needs to allow you to leave at any time if you have no unpaid debts.

What if they encourage everyone to take out student loans, enslaving a generation and deluding the value of their degrees?

Student loan debt can not be discharged, and unless Bitcoin makes me rich, I will have a negative net worth until I'm at least 35.

Is it really aggression to encourage loans? If not, how does this violate the NAP?

That depends on if you count fear mongering as aggression.  We were told we would be doomed to poverty without a degree.  We were too young to know they were full of shit.  Now we are told our degrees don't mean anything because everyone has one.

Also, just to be clear, I meant diluted, not deluded Wink.

is it just me or is the font on these things really fucking small?
Ctrl-+ ?

Just messes up the font on everything else. I use gmail, so...

So read it, then Ctl -...

So you're saying it makes more sense for all the members to Ctrl + and then Ctrl - to read the mail every time it arrives,
while the sender could just adjust the font and make it readable from the start? :p
Sure it works, but the request to make it bigger wasn't weird or something ^^

No, I'm not saying that... but you are still bitching after he said he would fix it.

I mined 1294 unpaid shares.  You can donate anything I'm owed to p2pool.
6454  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its called a correction on: February 26, 2012, 08:10:49 PM

I thought that Zhoutong had said that if you liquidate your position you definately get what the P/L states at that time, seems not or I misunderstood then?

You misunderstood.

6456  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 26, 2012, 07:48:26 PM
I want to be paid more per share for my work (I get paid about ~0.00042???.BTC as I cant remember the exact amout  as it keeps changing sometimes. If I get paid more than this and it was constant,I'd happily point all my miners to your servce)

Raise your PPS?

Yes I mean that. What I didn't make clear in my last reply to this topic was that, I feel that if GPUMAX opens me up to the wider markets (free markets) that can offer me more or less than what I get,I can then have the freedom to choose what I'm happy to work with as that's how free markets work (As far as I can understand).GPUMAX is a great idea because i'm not limited by my pools PPS rate and that I have access to the free market as well (where they can pay more as well as less) which I feel is important to me.

I'm still not understanding you, but if you edit your worker, you can set whatever PPS you want.  If GPUMAX can pay you what you set, you mine for them, if they can't pay that much, they pass it through to your private pool.

6459  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price or difficulty ? on: February 26, 2012, 06:55:11 PM
Difficulty, because difficulty didn't have time to adjust to price last time.  This time, we'll approach 30 more slowly.
6460  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its called a correction on: February 26, 2012, 06:48:47 PM
Who's ready for some action?

Me!
