6501  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [1700+ BTC] on: March 14, 2012, 04:57:34 AM
Just to let you guys know that although not concerned about getting the contract (and I understand the reservations about my system) I have made some progress creating a "forum package" for my software system (which of course has *zero* manual code).

Although far from complete it handles ordering latest post topics first (after sticky topics which are also in latest post ordering) and allows for topics to be locked and moved. Child boards work correctly with stats totals updating to parents.

Actually bx.bit works fine for me now - but still no ciyam.bit. Sad
6503  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [1100+ BTC] on: March 12, 2012, 10:04:17 AM
Seems a lot of people on the forum know very little about *modern* C++.

I have not had a buffer overflow (or even a memory leak) in my code for years.
6504  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 11, 2012, 05:38:30 PM
I am using Windows XP (sp 3) and when I try nslookup bx.bit I get 178.248.244.15 (if I use curl with the name I get a permanently moved message but if I curl the raw IP I get http://sv05.net-housting.de as a href).

6505  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 11, 2012, 01:30:29 PM
try:
nslookup gee.bit.namecoin-suffix.dot-bit.org
this will look up gee.bit with suffix added directly on your default dns

Thanks - this does work (I already use 8.8.8.8 for my DNS lookup) - but how do I get this to work through a browser?
6506  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 11, 2012, 08:25:51 AM

I tried the .reg file but zero luck (I guess this maybe because I am in China).

I also got someone in Australia to try the Posix method on a box running OpenSUSE but it also will not resolve any .bit addresses. Sad

They also just tried pinging namecoin-suffix.dot-bit.org but got an "unknown host namecoin-suffix.dot-bit.org" error.
6507  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 10, 2012, 03:15:34 AM
Via bitviewer am still getting FMA even now. Sad
6508  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 07, 2012, 03:58:50 PM
Thanks for your help (and I will try your method later).

Any ideas cablepair?
6509  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 07, 2012, 09:38:16 AM
works fine via suffix method

Could you please paste a link into a message here that will work (I have tried using http://bitviewer.net/browse.php?u=http://ciyam.bit or going to the website and typing ciyam.bit but still takes me to FMA). Sad

(btw - I am trying this from China and got it tested from Australia as well with the same result)

domain registration is said to me a manual process at this time. Once your domain has been registered, you'll receive an email from the admin about how to access your control panel. Or, so I've heard. I'd give it 24-72 hours.

Yup - but I got the email nearly two eight hours ago and can access the control panel fine and it says it is redirecting ciyam.bit to www.ciyam.bit and www.ciyam.bit to www.ciyam.com but still no joy.

But I will test it again tomorrow so hopefully will come good by then.

I registered ciyam.bit yesterday through register.dot-bit.org (and have received a confirmation email) which should redirect to www.ciyam.com but instead it takes me to fma.com. Huh
6511  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Suggestion for listtransactions change wrt account labels... on: March 07, 2012, 02:28:37 AM
Thanks Gavin for the information (hadn't got to 'validateaddress' yet but it looks very useful).

The GUI has no notion of a "sendfrom account", so any coins send from the GUI won't play nicely with whatever system you create using the RPC interface.

True although the "label" (or whatever the correct term) that you can put in the address book for the sends (after sending) will appear if you do a 'getaccount' (and am guessing for 'validateaddress' also) so I think it is possible to get everything to fit together albeit a little clumsily from the GUI side (IMO would be nicer if the "label" was available in the send dialog).

I am hoping all my GUI tx's will be able to be picked up by my GL application without further manual adjustments. Smiley
6512  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Suggestion for listtransactions change wrt account labels... on: March 06, 2012, 06:21:22 AM
Please let know me if I'm wrong yet again but would it be correct that for Bitcoin (as far as the RPC interface goes) an "account" is really just a way to divide up the wallet for purposes of perhaps providing a wallet service or similar?

In which case for sure I don't want to confuse accounts as in GL accounts with that. Perhaps it is unfortunate that "getaccount" given an external address returns the "label" that you can put from the GUI (and that "setaccount" even works for external addresses as these by above said definition are *not* accounts).

In any case I think I can work out what I need (by calling "getaccount" and "setaccount") to have the GUI and bitcoind information become aligned (albeit I cannot get what I want out of listtransactions without the modification I mentioned).
6513  Economy / Economics / Re: How big is Bitcoin's presence in China? on: March 06, 2012, 04:33:09 AM
Indeed inflation is a big concern in China and especially for very low income earners who have to spend nearly all of their earnings on food and housing.

Gold can be bought from banks and is I think being viewed by many as an inflation hedge (at least those that can afford to buy some).
6514  Economy / Economics / Re: How big is Bitcoin's presence in China? on: March 06, 2012, 12:54:55 AM
I thought Google left or was booted from China  Huh

Indeed they left but when they did they had redirected searches to google.com.hk (although it often doesn't work or doesn't work very well).

I think that baidu.com would be the main search engine used by Chinese nowadays.
6515  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taint checker list on: March 05, 2012, 07:01:12 AM
I think one problem with this would be the tx fee (although perhaps not much of a problem now but certainly down the track) as it is quite possible you may have to pay a tx fee in order to "return" the tainted coins (this of course would depend upon the miners).
6516  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 04, 2012, 12:41:14 PM
This is great but please note that if you get your site indexed by Google as a proxy then it won't take very long for it to no longer be accessible from China and other countries that put a lot of effort into blocking sites.

Cheers,

Ian.
6517  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tradehill's website completely gone? on: March 04, 2012, 09:17:11 AM
I believe that they made announcement in another thread that due to the Linode hacking issue they were temporarily shutting down their website.
6518  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin 100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: March 03, 2012, 05:57:02 AM
You might be referring to my 5 BTC donation (for which I sent a PM to Bruno about it at the time of sending).
6519  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Suggestion for bitcoin-qt for new installations on: March 03, 2012, 04:03:14 AM
My wife had to re-install Windoze on her laptop recently and not realizing where a lot of her "application user data" is stored (the C drive which was wiped over) she lost everything that was there (which could but luckily didn't involve losing much of any value).

Maybe it might be an idea that when first started up from a fresh installation the user is prompted where to store the DB info (the wallet location in particular of course) as I know at least in her case she would be sure to have picked another drive to store the data on (as she does this for all other apps she uses when prompted).

Cheers,

Ian.
6520  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Suggestion for listtransactions change wrt account labels... on: March 02, 2012, 09:19:35 AM
I am also thinking the changes might need to go a little further with the address map (or "label") entries being added for the "to" address when you do a "sendfrom" via bitcoind.

I see there is a [comment-to] option for the "sendfrom" - do the comments have any relation to the labels?
