6521  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread sept 4th. to sept 17th Picks are closed. on: September 16, 2015, 04:42:04 PM
I think we're going to keep seeing 5%+ as all the new gen hardware comes online and the northern hemisphere cools down for fall.  The network may keep growing like this all the way to the halving.

I think so which really is sad.  Roi at today's prices is hard at 5+.... just is going to be tough to mine.    Will come down to cheap electricity only.

And just think were still approaching having each period were one closer.  Scary future looking at it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Windows 8.1 system, ONE miner directly into a laptop USB, I've tried every version of mining program and .bat file I can think of, and read Novak's GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread repeatedly to no avail.

not all laptop USB ports can put out the full 500 ma (2.5 watts) that the USB 2 spec calls for.

have you tried them in a desktop or (standard run of the mill) powered USB 2 hub?

this may not be an issue now but cgminer used to have problems with some USB 3 ports with some miners, if your laptop has both USB 2 and 3 try a USB 2 port.

Also if you are use to a little of linux, it's honestly a heck of a lot easier then windows.   The zadig driver is just a heck of a pain.    I had a lot better luck with Debian.

But these are both pre-production sticks i'm using so might have changed.   I'm should get my production stick soon.

Would it not even work to get started with until I can afford to purchase something a bit better?

I would not touch that for mining at all.  Look at what happens on failures of PSU's.  I bet the wires are very very cheap.   I would be surprised if they don't heat up and possibly melt.

Don't order it.  Trust us.

Ive already bought the damned thing a few day ago..its getting returned the minute it gets delivered....

With being bought ebay that is kinda a crappy thing to do to the seller.  He provided you exactly what you ordered.   If you return he has to eat shipping most likely.

I suggest eating the £12.95 and just not use the thing.

Ive been doing some testing today. Should have 2 pointed twords mine during it.

If anyone want's to watch 2 should be at: http://solo.ckpool.org/workers/1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.notlist3dstick  .  They are not being pushed very hard just trying to get it all to work on RPI.

I have purchased this PSU for use with an S1 I bought from ebay , is it possible to use it?

No need to double post.  Still same anwser no. Besides it being way to cheap on quality.

I don't see 2 pcie cables to use.

6527  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: September 16, 2015, 02:09:19 PM
It's more accurate to say mining is a dead investment when you think about other investment options. You can earn more money by Bitcoin trading, opening a BTC exchange, offering forex trading services etc.
Mining could be profitable but the profit you get would probably be less than all other investments'.

It all depends you can also lose money trading, unless your talking about buying and holding.   Yes buying and holding likely is one of the safest bets.

But many of us enjoy mining.  It is not dead just a lot harder.   When it will be really hard is having, don't know what will happen there.
6528  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain to make a U4..??? on: September 16, 2015, 02:07:38 PM
Bitmain still has U3's for sale.

I don't think there is any chance of them making a U4 until they sell their remaining U3.

Especially as they are making an AntRouter.

You do make a good point about antrouter that is kinda in the same space as U series.    I did not think about that.

But most likely we will see AntRouter.   U3 is hard to order off them as you have to order 20.  I think when they finnaly want to sell quick they will lower that min order.  Or maybe it's not worth their time for less and will not lower it.
6529  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread on: September 16, 2015, 01:44:31 PM
Hi Guys I know this is for S3 discussion but I really need some help with an S1.

I have bought this PSU from ebay brand new ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201257564181?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Can anyone advise if I can use it or not? And if so am I able to just cut off the connectors and connect to the screw fittings on the S1.

Please dont flame me I just really need some advise.

Stay away from cheap PSU's.   It just is not a good way to get started.  Look for a decent one at least.

That is pretty much a great example of a cheap psu that I personally would never use for mining.
6530  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Question on: September 16, 2015, 01:42:37 PM
There is not really a standard anwser.  It all depends on many different variables.  If you have cheap electricity an S3 will work for you. If you are 10 cents or so not so much.

But as far as best number look at underclocking with a very efficient PSU.  Gold/Platinum psu's would be most common used for trying to be efficient.
6531  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: September 16, 2015, 12:49:41 PM
Hardware wallet : Case - The world's most secure and easy-to-use bitcoin wallet => https://choosecase.com/

Checked the website but it says pre-order, you own it or thinking to have it in near future?
Pre-Order Total:         $214.51

It's known , you can find articles about it on Coindesk , TechCrunch and more famous websites .
I really like it honestly even if I don't have it , if I had much bitcoins I would definitly get it , it has all a Hardware wallet should have .

One of the biggest things to add that is not obvious is the GSM network.  So it's going to work without wifi/computer pretty much anywhere cell phones work.   No other hardware wallet has used cell phone networks.

That adds a good amount of the price to it.
6532  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread sept 4th. to sept 17th Picks are closed. on: September 16, 2015, 12:45:36 PM
This week is going to hurt:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    56,957,648,455
Estimated Next Difficulty:    60,226,440,016 (+5.74%)
Adjust time:    After 176 Blocks, About 1.1 days
Hashrate(?):    454,976,728 GH/s

Just have to wonder how long can we keep getting 5 percent or so.   I don't see a end in sight for the moment.
6533  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain to make a U4..??? on: September 16, 2015, 12:44:33 PM
Bitmain stepped up their game quite well with s7, it'd be nice to have something more accessible though. But I don't think it'll happen very soon, they'll have to ROI out of S7 production first.

I don't think so the S7 and U series are really completely different target audiences.   Them having a S7 or what ever big one does not really factor in.

These miners are not meant for ROI really.  More for fun on the U series.
6534  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: September 16, 2015, 12:41:40 PM
Yes, it's the gekkoscience compac, get them while they're hot: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1126705.0

Best usb miner available right now, and you're supporting our "local" community.  Unlike the U3, these work!

They're not as good a deal at the price point, but I'll second Mikestang. I got two of them a few days and they've been hashing away happily.

They are both in what I consider the fun section of mining.  I'm not sure price per power, or roi really come into play in this section.

It is one that you do for the fun of it.  I am doing lotto even though I know I will not win chances are.
6535  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 16, 2015, 12:39:37 PM
Your stick is going out today, and probably delivered tomorrow given the proximity.

Sounds great thank you for the update.  I do appreciate it.

That means I should be able to test RPI with it pretty easy.  I think I will try raspbian first see how it goes, then minera as a second option.

With all my playing around with the Pi and raspbian, you don't need to install the libjansson-dev (either cgminer or raspbian has already got a version in it).

Will be interested in seeing if you get it to read/write the cgminer.conf file, I'm still working/trying to figure it out, while I wait on a few things before I start cranking the power up some.

Well, I just thought of something I haven't tried yet. Going for another test...LOL.

I got it the regular cgminer 4.9.2 to work on rasparian. Im using one of the test ones and a review one.  I was able to use enable icarus and run those that way.  Not sure if final production model will work with that or if it will want to run on compac.    I should know in a day or two when I get my production one.

Problem I ran into was the RPI model b did not like my powered hub.   It works fine with windows, and debian on a pc but the RPI was not a fan.   So going to try minera and see what it does.

Check to see if the hub is back feeding power to the Pi, by putting a small piece of tap on pin 1 either in the usb cable or the Pi slot. Or if you got a cheap wire laying around, that you don't mind cutting, cut the red wire and see if it helps.

Also if it's a usb 3.0, the Pi's don't like them, you can try plugging the 3.0 hub into a 2.0 hub pluged into the Pi.

As of right now I have 2 on debian.   I did have to run cgminer as root or it did not detect them. (Im on a live usb of debian).

But as of right now raspberry pi I'm not a big fan of.  Just old laptop with full debian is beating the heck out of it.

6537  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: "Miners" looks simple. If You're so smart why not start a company??? on: September 16, 2015, 01:37:30 AM
ok since everyone wants to be difficult and say even d*mber things. Lets start by someone explaining how bitmain or spondoolies or bfl got started. If it is so difficult and takes so much money? Everyone here must admit there sites / products look a little "ring-dingy".

All this money and cant even get a str8 site?

This is not a board really that is bringing in angel investors.  Your thinking of a different type of group.   If it was not difficult there would be more names up there.

BFL is a good example of someone chances are losing money.  They failed multiple times and now are going through a legal battle.  It's a good example why you should not gamble with others money unless you have a very good business plan.

Just go out and make chips or miners is not much of a business plan.
6538  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 16, 2015, 01:31:37 AM
Odd someone (regular member) sent me a PM telling me not to put ideas like upgrade kit.   I've never been told not to talk about an idea. Basically since it looks designed for upgrade or a + version.

Never had another member try to censor me before.  And it was designed by bitmain I had nothing to do with the modular setup or how it's made.

Cheesy Maybe it's because Bitmain's record of upgrade kit let-downs has made them miserable, and they don't want to bear the disappointment one more time?  Shocked

In all seriousness, I would have told them to take a long hard suck on my arse.  Mods don't even police obvious scams to try to help protect inexperienced members, why the hell would anyone care to censor ideas like that?  Roll Eyes

Edit: unless it was dogie, who just wanted to take the credit for it himself. LOL!

I was going to pm him to ask what member, I did not bother.

It was a member who thought it would hurt his chances at getting a loan.  Don't know why he thought it would or why he felt need to try to censor me.

Well my RPI came about 20 minutes before 7 so most of the day I did not get it.  Now trying to get initial install.  Will let you know how it goes.
6540  Other / Meta / Re: Banned for unsubstantial post + signature ad on: September 15, 2015, 11:50:49 PM
Anyway, I will change my way to do my posts and I will talk by PM with the rotator owners.

You cannot talk by PM when you are banned.  You are going to be permabanned.   Undecided

At this point I think he has already posted and most likely PM'ed to.   I would be surprised with 8 posts of bright color with same faucet spam he gets a break.    I think perma ban to.   But I have been wrong before.
