Works fine for me.  There have been DNS issues in the past, make sure your DNS is returning 50.56.4.62 for bitcoinica.com
6542  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica charging interests (feb 13) on: February 16, 2012, 02:13:14 AM
This is unethical weather there was an actual contract or not.
This is the wild wild west. Everything is sold as-is without any warranty.  Sorry if you don't like the new system, but you are free to leave.
+1

6544  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica now out of both, BTC and USD on: February 16, 2012, 01:25:53 AM
You have to admit there is some friction between Bitcoinica and Gox that probably would not be there on a native exchange. The way things are set up now there are too many points of failure. As things stand I do not have confidence in my ability to reasonably, accurately characterize my risk on Bitcoinica.

Today being an excellent case-in-point. If everyone wants to short leveraged, Bitcoinica has to use its reserves to counter the leverage and always makes sure the shorters lose. It HAS to bet against its own customers, which is why we see these large swings. If you look at BTC days destroyed, it seems like an old miner could be manipulating Bitcoinica itself by continually flushing it of its reserves.

I'm pretty sure you don't understand how Bitcoinica works.
6545  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who do you support for president? on: February 16, 2012, 12:30:14 AM
He is treated as a Moses by his fanatics.

Also, this is almost a tautology.

Of course fanatics worship him, and they are the loudest.  But he has plenty of fans and even just supporters who aren't nutjobs.

I agree.  Actually, one of my friends supported R.P. until I pointed out the faith stuff.  For me, it was that he supported don't ask don't tell.  Even when I did support R.P., his followers were unnerving.  And I meant the Moses thing because he is treated like he will lead us into the promised land (Promised Land = no Fed) and has some sort of connection to the laws from God (ark = the constitution).

Obama was sort of a Jesus.  Doesn't' really follow the old laws (constitution) but performs miracles by feeding the 5000 ("Give me my Obama Check") and the poor love him.

Most seriously, does anyone worry what will happen if the FED is gone?  It sounds radical, but I don't know the implications.  Does it serve any important functions?

It's primary function is market manipulation for the advantage of the powerful and debasing the savings of those struggling to save in the first place.
6546  Economy / Speculation / Re: steady selling pressure, should be at $3.00 very soon on: February 16, 2012, 12:10:05 AM
Just read about TradeHill shutting down (yeah, slow on the news).  So we're relying on essentially one exchange now (I consider handling well over 90% of all USD<->BTC as a monopoly).  A single point of failure.  Not exactly a comforting thought, especially as bitcoin was meant to be anything but reliant on the good wishes and business practices of one company.  Competitors may emerge of course, but it all takes time and a lot of money.

I would love to build an exchange, but I live in the US, so I know my government would get in the way.

No textbooks are squarish, this is much more rounded... Cheesy lmfao

As always, thank you for your valuable contribution Wink.

Plus, he already answered your question (no, it's not currently possible), and told you it's on the TODO list.  I agree it's a valuable feature, and so does he, but this is a BETA, you will have to have some patience to participate.

I trust Ron Paul would do evil if the constitution wouldn't prevent him from doing so.

I trust any other option would do evil even if the constitution should prevent it.

RP stands for the constitution as strongly as he stands for his faith.  He's the only presidential candidate that isn't willing to bend it to their will.

Actually, I am voting for Obama.  I only said that I trust Dennis to do what he says, when he said Paul was the ONLY one we can trust.  I think Obama has better morals than R.P.

I think Obama has good intentions, but fails miserably at execution.  He knows the legal system, but understand little about how the world works.

My vote is going to Obama or RP, but Obama has done some things that really upset me.  For example, shooting over 100 cruise missiles at Libya at $1 million a pop, without congressional approval.
6551  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica charging interests (feb 13) on: February 15, 2012, 11:21:05 PM
They shouldn't charge interest on pre-interest positions.

It look like they're breaching the contract mid term to me.

They give you until the 16th to close your position without interest.  Also, what contract?  Any contract you think you have is assumed.

And what does this have to do with speculation?

This.  Also, built a gentoo system is the only one I can say yes to.

Listen to Void Main much Tongue

No idea what you're talking about.
6554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A "quick start" option for bitcoin. on: February 15, 2012, 10:53:15 PM
If the latest blockchain was included in the initial download and users could choose to install it along with bitcoin would that save a long wait to use the software ? Advanced users would aways want to do it the normal way but for casual users it might be a godsend.

I agree offering a package with the blockchain included would be helpful as long as "updgrade" packages without it are also available.
6555  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 15, 2012, 10:51:22 PM
PPS payed by gpumax is much higher than by deepbit, for exapmple
From the original post:

Quote
For Miners - Free
Manage your miner(s) on our website
Manage and track pools, shares, speeds and public work income. (See Below)
Lease your miner(s) to others earning additional income by setting a PPS price on your account that we pay directly to you when we use your miner(s) for public work sold through the website.
You will never make less than mining on your own.
Paid for public work with Bitcoins.

Unless the OP is outdated, it seems as though each miner can decide what PPS fee they want to set.  Obviously, they won't sell their hashes very often if they set it too high, but that's why I am wondering whether the PPS rate fluctuates with difficulty at all.  I would hate to set it to a certain amount, then have difficulty go down and I make less on the PPS route than I would have without dabbling in PPS.

He means it's currently much higher than expected PPS if you do the math for how much a share is worth on average.  Sure, if difficulty changes significantly, the going rate may change, but this is more of a market where you choose what you want and buyers either pay your fee, or your shares get passed through to your "private" pool.

Kuchinek is not a candidate is he?

Nope, but dayfall doesn't care.  He's voting for him anyway.  It's the logical choice Tongue.
6557  Economy / Speculation / Re: Goomboo's Journal on: February 15, 2012, 10:23:52 PM
yep hourly, it's on the cusp atm, neck & neck

That is a rather predictable effect of a bunch o' traders adopting this strategy...

Yep.. they called me crazy when I said that before, but I've seen it several times since and I'm convinced.

I'm just absolutely puzzled that this vital discussion rarely gets vetted on this board.

I'm just puzzled that a member who has 43 posts thinks he knows every discussion that has taken place.

Here's one to get you started:

Prefix your google search with site:bitcointalk.org... the built-in search sucks.
