6561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Libra still pose a threat to Bitcoin? on: April 16, 2020, 07:17:17 PM
Tbh this is the only time I have heard of that name once more, apart from seeing it on daily horoscopes posted on several social media sites. Facebook and Libra has since quieted down once we entered 2020, and there doesn't seem to be important developments with what it offers either. Libra didn't even pose a solid threat to bitcoin either since its beginning, so the question is somewhat irrelevant IMO. If traditional companies turned down their support to Libra after receiving flak amongst the community and the masses, why would it even pose a single threat to a cryptocurrency that received numerous bashing yet stays on top of them all?
6562  Economy / Economics / Re: Proposed Bill Would Give Americans $2,000 A Month Until Economy Recovers on: April 16, 2020, 06:15:15 PM
This would be a good thing for the Americans short-term, or as long as the pandemic is still ravaging the country. Though of course with such a huge sum of money being given for free to every American eligible for the fund, this would have severe effects in terms of taxation and the economy long-term, and I sure hope that everyone has already realized that printing a lot of money will have a detriment to the economy and someone is going to pay for those.
6563  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Do you do Contract or Futures trading. on: April 16, 2020, 10:25:35 AM
Perhaps it's not for me pero natry ko siya and it's really a potential money maker if you can analyze the history of a certain commodity/instrument and make guesses on the drawing board.
6564  Economy / Economics / Re: USD will lose its status of being reserve currency? I am scared. on: April 16, 2020, 09:50:09 AM
There is a huge possibility for this to happen, as most reserve currencies in the past only experienced quite a century of glory before reverting back to their status as a normal currency. Even so, just look at GBP for example. Still holds quite a value and footing in the world economy albeit having experienced some controversies as of late (talk about Brexit for example). If there will be a shift on the world's reserve currency in the near future, it won't hurt USD that much in terms of value IMO; just not that being widely used anywhere around the world. CNY and EUR are great contenders, with CNY taking the lead currently (and, well, taking advantage of the situation) as China's economy remain operational as to this day.
6565  Economy / Economics / Re: China will rule world as economy king after crisis end? on: April 15, 2020, 08:13:35 PM
China is currently making moves of their own to progress as the world's superpower in terms of sheer economic size. They are selling test kits and other necessities to other severely-affected countries of COVID-19 and are continuing their research and drills on the disputed waters of the West Philippine Sea for oil and other natural resources. One can say that this whole thing is an elaborate plan to take over the world's helm as the top economic dog but that's without conclusive and substantial evidence yet. For now, we can see that it is their own economy right now which is robust enough to continue despite having been hit hard by this virus as of late. There's no doubt that they'll take the post, seeing that the US is having too much problems of their own that even their state governors are already cramming to make a decision as to whether they'll open their states for business or not.
6566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can go to proof of stake after they see how ethereum goes on: April 15, 2020, 07:47:59 PM
They have tried to wrap bitcoin in an ethereum contract and tote it as btcx or something like this.
I dont know what came out of this proposal or if it actually happened but that does sound like a hybrid or a sort of Frankenstein experiment.
Pick your poison. Lips sealed

I remember having read something along the lines of that, though apparently it wasn't a success (as most bitcoin forks are, lol) since the idea is pretty much diverging too much from what a cryptocurrency really is. Anyway, I'm not entirely sure whether PoS would be a good idea to any coin, ever, seeing that most power would belong to those early enough to take a stash of the coins into their coffers and hoped for the best, whereas in PoW mining could be centralized, but at least the means to get there takes a lot of effort and money and your large share of the hashing power won't mean much unless some other shithead decides to mess around the bitcoinspace with you.
6567  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers are betting on Trotting and Marbles due to Coronavirus on: April 15, 2020, 04:20:47 PM
During these times when everyone cannot go out and live their normal lives, believe me, boredom makes everyone do some crazy things and discover new things they have never even heard of before. Same with gambling. There literally isn't any games right now on any big leagues on multiple sports, though some obscure ones remain to be playable today. Hell, some of the Filipinos here are betting on cockfights on rooftops just to kill time and gain some profit on gambling! Trotting is quite popular in some countries in EU, I believe, though Marbles is a different story, I'd say!
6568  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: The elephant in the room on: April 15, 2020, 03:37:03 PM
10/10 still for the effort he is exerting to maintain all of his accounts though Cheesy.

This is a huge possibility considering na madali lang malaman sa IP logs ng forum kung isang tao lang ba talaga lahat yang account or not, though theymos never really dropped IP logs ever since. Also, I don't think we need to go above and beyond para lang dito sa kung sino man itong taong 'to. I have a friend na nalaman itong forum at signature posting without knowing na 2014 pa ako nandito, and to my surprise he gave me his login credentials dahil makikisuyo daw siya na makipag-usap raw ako rito at babahagian niya raw ako sa bayad sa kanya. The account was flagged since then and until now, hindi pa rin alam ng kaibigan ko na yun na matagal na ako dito sa forum haha
6569  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is nobody talking about this major resistance? on: April 14, 2020, 07:33:52 PM
We've been rejected re-entry to $7000 multiple times today, and even though that's the case, I still don't think there's too much selling pressure to bring us down to the price range you're aspiring for. In the mean time, the movement seems to favor $7000 on most exchanges, but if we can't get a stable footing on that level, we will still find ourselves on the high $6k and remain in there as if the markets are taking a break.

We've been returning to $6600 - $6700, and the resistance you're speaking of is @ $6900. Why not try to just average and hold for the best?
6570  Local / Pilipinas / Re: [LOOK] Bitcoin Table of Units 😱 😱 on: April 14, 2020, 06:37:10 PM
It's been 5 years simula nung una kong nakita ang proposed table of units for bitcoin dito sa forum na ito, and tbh, they are cool but oftentimes hindi ko makita ang real-world usage neto.
6571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is our chance on: April 14, 2020, 05:38:03 PM
This may be one of the few chances where bitcoin would shine the brightness in the midst of all the chaos and the darkness that has been spewed out. A recession is just looming around the corner, and theoretically bitcoin should perform best among other assets and currencies out there. The only problem is that people would surely hesitate to use bitcoin for the first time, though once bitcoin started posting better results they might start to reconsider and be converted. Merchants may also reconsider once they see its full potential in crisis like this..
6572  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: The elephant in the room on: April 14, 2020, 05:06:06 PM
Mapanlamang sa kapwa talaga ang ibang Pilipino and it shows sa ipinapakita nitong isa nating kababayan.
6573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CRYPTO NEWS:FBI Warns COVID-19 Scammers Are Targeting Crypto Holders. on: April 14, 2020, 02:31:27 PM
They are quite late to the party, it seems. Community members have already been able to discern which is which weeks ago, and have already posted guidelines to know whether a 'donation fund' is a scam or not. As always, just stay vigilant and do searches, cross-references and just donate to official sources which can easily be found in the interwebs and such.

It's just appalling that even in times like these, nefarious beings still roam and try to deceive people out of their own hard-earned money by masking it using donations to the needy.
6574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC HODLers are getting all the new technologies for free! Why? on: April 11, 2020, 06:58:44 AM
This is actually one of the things devs do in order to garner some interest on their project: give tokens to hodlers in order to increase their volume in exchanges. Also, comparing ETH which is mainly used for smart contracts and dapps whereas bitcoin has always remained to be mainly an asset and store of value. It’s like comparing a Swiss Army Knife to a hammer or whatever—two completely different things.
6575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrong BTC Adress, copied from Binance's Dashboard on: April 11, 2020, 05:12:10 AM
Deep scan feature of Malwarebytes does not reveal these type of malware inside your system, unfortunately. I have had intentionally infected my old laptop with such and it turns out, it pretty much blends in within your aystem apps causing Defender and Malwarebytes to pass it as a false-negative.

Binance is right on this one, unfortunately, and the best you can do is to secure your system and try not to download unnecessary things on it so as not to put your files and your coins at risk.
6576  Local / Pilipinas / Re: [Discussion] Image ng Bitcoin sa mga tao on: April 10, 2020, 09:19:14 PM
I would agree to the notion na dahil sa Silk Road at pagpromote ni DPR sa paggamit ng bitcoin sa mga exchanges doon, lalong nakilala ang bitcoin, albeit in a bad light. Even though that's the case, people already started thinking na may ganoon palang mga pangyayari na maaaring magkaroon ng value ang isang 'internet money' as long as may willing mag-receive nito in exchange sa kanilang goods/services.

Had it not been for my curiosity of that meme in 2013 kung saan nakalagay yung mukha ni Dorian Nakamoto + the word bitcoin, hindi ko talaga malalaman kung anong nagawa nito kahit pa matagal na akong naglulurk dito sa forum na ito (late 2010).
6577  Economy / Economics / Re: Rebooting the World after the COVID-19 Shutdown on: April 10, 2020, 08:14:30 PM
Ahh, the Hierarchy of Needs proposed by Maslow. You literally posted a whole discussion of a Psychology course into a bitcoin forum..

Technically after the COVID-19 pandemic, people and governments would be more aware that infectious diseases are lingering just around the corner and nature is not one to fuck with. Also, more people will inform themselves into basic biology and medical science, as most seem to ignore this certain area which caused the pandemic. Governments will invest more on the field of medical and biological research, and ultimately, people will focus more on health and hygiene needs after this is all said and done.

I don't see any restructuring of our economic structure currently, and the only thing that will change is everyone's outlook and perception on viruses and how severe they can be. Frankly though, the economy will take a beating of its own--and a hard one at that--and just like any other economic downturn/recession that we have had in the past, things will get back to normal once more.

It's good reading a post like this again, and I felt like I wasted 10 mins of reading and re-reading everything even if I already know what it contains. One thing and one thing only, consumer culture will not die as long as people feel that vanity is a part of their own system to belong to their society, or to be just acceptable within the social norms. Viruses will not be the reason for it to disappear, and the quarantines around the world made it even worse for some people who are eagerly wanting to go out and get back to their daily lives.
6578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino workers, asking for salary during the shutdown on: April 10, 2020, 07:27:49 PM
There's no option since you will going to choose between life and death as this virus can affect everyone. All businesses which been affected of this lockdown needs financial support both from the employers and the government, this no work no pay system really hurting everyone but it's still best to choose your life and survive from this crisis than risk your own life trying to keep working.

From where I'm at, the government is kind enough to send some goods and some money on our way until the quarantine period is over. Best estimates for the curve to flatten on my country (the Philippines) is up until June, which is a good 3 months since the initial lockdown on March 16. Private sectors and companies, especially those top corporations are also kind enough to chip in whatever they can even though they are already operating at a loss. Technically everyone is in emergency mode, with little to no resources to work with however the government 'can' basically provide food for the next 3 months. Payments on power, water and other things are essentially suspended for the time being, so there's that. I myself am a volunteer on a hospital and have my main job stopped, so I live off of donations and some money I have saved for myself. I understand the sentiment of everyone regarding this crisis, but if help is truly being delivered, people should not have any reasons to still go out. I'm not speaking out of privilege or luck, as I myself have nothing to pay for rent within the next month but if people cooperate well with the government on the effort to prevent the virus from spreading, normalcy would be had in a month or two.
6579  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin will never fall? on: April 10, 2020, 07:03:09 PM
I wouldn't really be religious in saying that bitcoin will never fall. Not being a pessimist but there will surely be better iterations of bitcoin that would eventually be used by a lot of people around the world. While the points stated above are true, bitcoin simply does not appeal to the masses because the concept of it is too young for people to fathom. In the later years, perhaps, people would soon realize that bitcoin--or cryptocurrencies in general--are the real deal and not fiat.
6580  Economy / Speculation / Re: On May 12, BTC was at $12M (sell order) to reach a value of 0$ on: April 10, 2020, 05:59:38 PM
Do you know how was pumped BTC during last 3 months from 6.5k to 10k? look at the 50M. spoof orders on bitmex.. Try to do this in any regulated market .. know what would happen? jail

Which further proves this point:

SP500 is a index of 500 biggest US stocks, was prevented from drops by circuit breakouts (at least 20), helped by helicopter money. BTC was on his own.

BTC is literally helpless from such orders that can bring it down to $0, but is also controlled from all sorts of trading practices that could make it valued a lot in a single night; susceptible to all forms of nefarious trading practices but still stood on its own despite everything around it crumbling to pieces. You are naive to think that spoofing isn't happening in regulated markets. It is happening, but most traders are good in hiding it that's why it's not being exposed.
