6561  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Let the Patent Arms Race begin on: June 21, 2018, 05:19:30 PM

True, after 50 years the rights were going to be freed and they managed to extend them. I wonder if you could do the same with Shakespeare´s texts.

The problem with big companies getting patents have been stopping the development of many new techs for many years now. Some of them are even slowing down the progress, as this author says:
"Because it's the most depressing part of the patent system, and is actually hurting small companies trying to build innovative new businesses.

The problem is that the system allows companies to get patents to which they are not actually entitled.

And then use those patents to sue other companies who are actually working in that space!"

Thatś for this nice article: https://www.inc.com/nick-skillicorn/how-the-current-patent-system-actually-hurts-inventors.html

At the end of the day, all reside, once more, on the money you have. If you have enough money to pay for any idea you have and get the patent, then you will have a future by denouncing others, even if you have never put into practice your idea... that sucks.
6562  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My first 2 weeks on Bitcointalk and Ranking up!- READ IF YOU'RE NEW HERE ;) on: June 21, 2018, 05:10:39 PM

As you can see, I mentioned Post History, and that is something all forum users should be aware off and wary about. Very often, meriters value not only the content of the post being merited, but the user’s posting track. This takes us extra time, but is a known habit here for many reasons.

Unfortunately, one does try to even out the sMerits one sends and not to concentrate them too much or in a very short period of time. This second factor, while not being a wrong doing at all, is often in the minds of merit awarders due to false positive accusations of abusing merit. This is a delicate matter whichever way you look at it, but kind of gets in the way of a clear objective (or should I say subjective rather) mind when it comes to meriting posts from good posters. There are threads where I would nearly merit all the posts within, since all have invested time and thought into the discussion, but the mental brake is drawn and stops the process in its tracks. This I know happens to quite a few of us around here.

To summarize it all: good mindset, good posting history. Merits should come your way with the two factors, at once pace or another. Well done so far.

I feel the need of seconding what DdmrDdmr has pointed in his quote. Sometimes I feel a post deserves much more than just one merit, but due to the incoming "inquisition" having a place in some boards of the forum, I stop and just give one.
Also, the posting history is a really important issue when regarding a user. As I told you the first time I merited you, I always check the post history of a user before meriting, for, to me, the one thing that must be rewarded is the attitude towards the forum.
Having a good attitude, being humble, sharing the knowledge, the insights one have, must be the correct approach and deserves many merits. Besides, seniors members need to take care of the good-newbies, for they are few, and also because this is a much better approach to make the forum a better place rather than making accusations to bad ones. I've seen recently the meta board full of people accusing one to another. I get the point, the forum is in a bad shape, but I think that if we better dedicate our time to support good newbies, this is a much healthy way to improve the forum.
(PD. Someone, make DdmrDdmr a Merit Source!! Wink )
6563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where can i find more information on ranking/poistion? on: June 21, 2018, 03:12:25 PM
Besides the ones quoted ahead, I recommend:

- A really well-explained video about ranking made by a user in here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3134036.0
- This post from a fellow newbie. This is really well-explained, and he's talking about the best attitude you can have towards the forum in order to be able orf ranking-up, also he's fast ranking-up due to his nice activity and the quality of his posts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4460023.msg39945637#msg39945637
- Another newbie's insight regarding merits and ranking-up. Again, he's talking about the best attitude towards the forum, and, as you will see, he's gaining merits because he's doing really well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4495947.0

Be curious, read, learn, ask everything you need to know.
Welcome!
6564  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Blockchain Technology is Changing the World on: June 21, 2018, 03:02:52 PM
Good one. I will be glad to see how the blockchain technology is implemented into elections some day. There was an attempt in Sierra Leona the last year but was made by a private enterprise, somehow guided by the government. Since I live in a really corrupted country, sometimes I think about how the blockchain tech could be implemented in here to stop all the corrupted-sell votes and stop the eternal circle we are trapped in.
How do you think it could be implemented? I mean, technologically speaking, there will be necessary to have some "miners" in order to verify the transactions (votes in this case). How would it help to fight corruption? Any ideas?
(I'm merit-off for the moment, but you deserve again for this compilation)

One last advice: if you are going to quote another site, it is better if you explain first what are you going to quote and from where, if not, you can be charged with plagiarism and get banned. Since I know you are not a plagiarist, I strongly recommend for you to write a Disclaimer first in which all the information you are going to use is detailed, as well as the reasons of why are you using this.
6565  Other / Off-topic / Re: bounty Advertising does nothing on: June 21, 2018, 02:32:19 PM

I guess you don't have a sense of humor. No , I'm not being racist I'm just stating a fact, these 3rd worlders are turning this forum into a hellhole because they are only here for the money.

Last week the meta board was full of banning complaints. Many of them where people from the "first world", and they did commit plagiarism. I am from the denominated "third world" (notice that this definition was minted in the WWII to spare the countries with wicker economies from participating in the great war...), so, according to you, I must go? I just don't deserve to be in here?
Besides, what are you proposing? where is your insight? What's the contribution of this topic to the forum? I mean: you are just complaining, insulting, but what are you proposing? To all of us become racists as you?

So, in fact, you are being a hypocrite, for your statement is "against spammers" but you are actually spamming the forum by making these s**ty threads. Come back when you have something to propose.

Thanks, I actually read all, but I think I'm going to get another coffee. Animaker!! In front of my eyes!! Thanks for pointing it out, man.

To the OP, thanks!!!
6567  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For Newbies Like Me : It's not all about the ranks and merits. on: June 20, 2018, 01:56:54 PM

I'm really not expecting for this post to get merits. I'm more of a reader than a poster taking advantage of free knowledge. I don't really care about merits and ranks as of this moment. I'm taking one step at a time. Ranking up for me is just for bragging rights in the future. I don't need to participate in any bounties or signature campaigns, I don't have time for those given my hectic schedule. I might not be able to post for a week or a month due to some projects in real life.

You can get merits as long as you'll not expect to get one. All you have to do is genuinely contribute to the forum without expecting any merits in return.

A rare specimen nowadays, people, learn from him!!! This is the best attitude one can have towards the forum, for there is a lot of free knowledge in here, as well as many people willing to help others. The ones in here just to earn will be stuck into a rank forever; the ones with a real interest in the forum itself, willing to contribute instead of earning some bucks, those ones, will rank with no effort at all, for they are enjoying the mere path they walk.

6568  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative solution for ranking up instead of merits on: June 20, 2018, 01:36:19 PM
<...>

Actually, the OP has a point, maybe it should be useful to stop counting in the spam boards, along with the merit system, of course. But by cutting the count on those boards, we will have as result "forever newbies", instead of "forever juniors".

To OP, the spam problem is not related to the altcoin section only. Just take a look at other sections, and observe how many people just go into a topic, maybe by reading the title and never the content or quotes in it; select a random one-lined phrase, as "Bitcoin will go to the moon, sir", or "Thanks, very informative" and that's all. Even if the topic is about sandwiches, they will say "Bitcoin to the moon", for they don't even care in reading the thread, of course, the quotes are a mystery to them, all those words to read!! Uf!!! Must be exhausting!!!
So the real problem is about the attitude towards the forum, in short. Of course, these people shouldn't rank-up, no matter how many times they tip "Interesting, sir, thanks", or "Bitcoin to the moon", no matter, they should never become legendary by doing so, and it has been achieved by the merit system.

Man, you are in a really competitive place. No matter if the internal function is used in other forums, in here, there are more than 2 million users, thousands new per day with the only goal of earning some bucks from here. They are drying the cow by spamming all over, for they don't really have a true interest in the forum, but on what a friend-of-a-friend told them: earn money by doing literally nothing. For those unable to even read the thread, to enroll the discussion, must not be any chance of ranking-up- For it would be truly unfair for the ones putting their grain by effort and hard work.

Nevertheless, Even when I can see the point on the first suggestion (stopping counting activity on the spam-fest boards), probably the result will be other boards becoming spam-fests. The issue is the lack of interest on the forum, that's all.
6569  Other / Meta / Re: The core of Bitcointalk's spam problem on: June 20, 2018, 01:18:55 PM

The merit system doesn't really stop spam, it just stops users being able to rank up with spam/poor contributions so most now put more effort into their posts. The merit system helps and is a huge step in the right direction but it does nothing about lower ranked accounts spamming away who are still able to get on to alt coin campaigns (and half of them will accept anyone of any rank because it's still better than having nobody advertise for them).

In fact, there is a whole new way of spamming, whose protagonists are all those "Forever juniors", in here just for the money and complaining because they don't receive merit due to their spammy actions.
To me the problem has two solutions:
- A quality control in signature/bounties/airdrops, in which only good ones are allowed, and it is required some quality on their posters.
- Do not allow newbies to join them, and to implement the need of gaining merits to JRs.

That's why I've proposed several times to come back to the "newbies jail". Even when I truly believe there are good newbies around, it will be easy for them to gain the 5 merits required to become JRs (if implemented, of course) and to be able to go out of their jail but, for those ones with no will at all of learning, contributing and to enroll discussions, debates, conversations in  here... well, they won't be able to go out the jail, so they will be unable to join whatever campaign they are seeking to join. Besides, more of the airdrops, bounties and so are spam.
Notice again that not all the ones wearing a signature are shitposters, as well as no everybody without one is a great one.

The problem beneath, under my last perspective (since I spend some time on the Beginners board trying to find good stuff and reward newbies), is the lack of interest of many. They don't understand how the forum works, and they don't really care. But it is difficult to stop the issue if that kind of newbies is allowed to spam all over the forum. If they are no longer allowed, probably they will just go to another place to spam.
Kind of radical, maybe, but everything is becoming a spam-fest, even some good threads here in meta.
6570  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: ¿Conocen algún caso de subida de categoría por Merit? on: June 19, 2018, 04:47:42 PM
<...>

6571  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For Newbies Like Me : It's not all about the ranks and merits. on: June 19, 2018, 04:17:29 PM
That's what I see when I clicked on profile, same as what you posted but when I actually click on the post that I made the format is different. So what I did is adjust the sentences trying to cut it short per line. Hope its okay now and pleasant to the eyes of the readers. Thank you very much for the screenshot you posted mate!

Finally!!! Yeah, much better this way!!
I hope many read this, the last phrase makes a necessary statement of how the forum works. Recently, I've divided the forum (in my mind) into two types of users: "Forever Juniors, or Forever members", those that are not willing to learn but to earn, and that don't care about the forum, don't make any contribution and just complain about the merit system. They are the majority, I'm afraid.
And, in the second hand, newbies willing to build a name in here, to learn, to spread the knowledge, to make some research. They are few. So, yes, I truly concur with your thoughts. The forum is a place where you can learn a lot, this is free and made by the people with effort. So its necessary to have some respect to that, and it is more and more difficult to see this kind of respect every single day.
So thanks, mate. Keep doing.
6572  Other / Meta / Re: Releasing of rank in yearly on: June 19, 2018, 04:10:58 PM
It has been really interesting to read the complete thread.
In conclusion, there are two different types of person in here:
- Forever Juniors, or Forever members: people who actually just post in their bounties, trying to digging the forum and receive some bucks. I guess most of them actually dreams with ranking-up do they can earn more money.
- Seniors and people seeking knowledge. Yep, there are some newbies earning merits in here, too. But, usually, they are not asking for them, but trying to create some good posts, to help others, and so.
Even if you are wearing a signature, the compromise with the forum must exist. There is not just a place to earn some bucks in the shape of a crypto, to copy paste everything you feel that is going to give you some underserved merits or to complain about the system. Yeah, you can find a "job" in here, maybe, but this is not excluding at all that you need to use the brain in each post you write.

The "meritocracy" Jet Cash was mentioning is the best way to describe the forum. Notice there are millions (!!!!) of users in here (maybe much less are actives, but, still, that's is a lot!). This is a very competitive place, and merits are made to make a difference between those who actually "shine" and the rest. Notice there are many users, even some that registered their accounts after the OP did, who have earned tons of merits. Why? Simple. They didn't come in here, joined a bounty and began to spam the forum with their reports and their "Good, thanks, sir". They just came in here and made the difference, by tons of effort, by teaching us, the seniors good and new stuff, by refreshing the site with their mere presence.
So the merit system is just showing up those users willing to make a difference through their hard work.
The rest, well, if you are not willing to make a difference, to learn, to read, to create something new, to tell us just something we can think about, to improve your attitude, you will become a "Forever Junior" or a "Forever member", if you are lucky enough and opened your account about a month before the merits system was implemented.

There is not "an easy way" (as the one you suggested) and this is not our duty to ease anybody's way. Besides, it will be truly unfair to ease the way now that many good users have spent time and dedication to rank-up and succeeded.
You have to choose: you can change your mindset about the forum, begin to learn, read, and try to write properly, try to, at least, say something that makes the people think, or, on the contrary, you can just still doing the way you are, with all those bounty reports and similar staff. If you choose the first, then you probably will rank-up because of your own effort; if you choose the second, you will remain as a "Forever Junior".

Think about the system. Is not far fairer this way? You can participate in here, you can also earn in here, as you are doing, with no effort, with no reflect, without contributing to the forum. You can, and you are doing this. And also, you can make contributions, if you will, you can write your thoughts, your relflections, enrolled into a gread debate, learn a lot, and, step by step, gain some merit as well as recognition from other users. Also, I strongly believe that now is far more easy to win some merits, for instance, now I merit newbies if I consider they have quite a good posting history and some effort in the merited thread. Before, I used to look for a great post, now I merit just good posts, for they are more rare and rare to say every day.

It is just your choice, mate. Just that.

6573  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For Newbies Like Me : It's not all about the ranks and merits. on: June 19, 2018, 03:35:35 PM
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback mate! I really appreciate it. I've deleted the spaces in between lines. Hope this would be more easy on the eyes of the readers now. Cheers! Wink Have a good one mate!

Umm... it is still messy. It is how I see it:

Maybe it is a problem with my browser, but I don't think so. Seems something related to the paragraph style you've chosen. As you can see, the last word is kind of "floating" around. Maybe is better if you just justified everything to the left...
6574  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Digital Currencies being taught in schools on: June 19, 2018, 03:30:48 PM
<...>

Of course, man. Remember when the internet came into the world, about the middle 90's. Not only in universities, but also in high schools, they began to introduce internet courses to their students, as well as word, excel and related stuff. The crypto world is new technology, and maybe it is how the world is going to work in a decade. Universities must be at the head of that, not only by teaching but by researching all the related to the blockchain technology.
Besides, a complete insight into how the tech works will allow the students to find a good job in the future, or it should.
We need well-informed people on the crypto. It is the only way for it to really succeed in the future. If we continue with all this misinformation having place at the present, with all the scams, the robbery, crypto will decay and become something scammy from the past. The lack of information is one of the biggest problems the new tech has.
So, in conclusion, of course, universities must take the lead and include in their programmes all related to the blockchain technology and the crypto world. Just remember there is a huge difference between the blockchain and the crypto. The first is the tech behind many things, as massive data storage, for instance; the second one of the multiple uses that the tech itself can have, Understanding this new, rare, complex world needs time and explanation. Also, this is just the point of the iceberg. By researching more profoundly the tech, I'm sure much is about to be discovered.
6575  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For Newbies Like Me : It's not all about the ranks and merits. on: June 19, 2018, 02:52:11 PM

As you gain so much knowledge with the use of this forum always remember to pay it forward as well to newbies that will come into the forum by sharing your 2 cents of everything that you've learned. It's not the rank or merits that really matters to earn bitcoin and profit from this forum but the real gem or wealth is the free knowledge that we can obtain by reading and patiently putting into action one step at a time. Knowledge is power so we should take advantage and be hungry to learn new things and innovations that this forum can offer.

Well said, mate. I've taken a look at your posting activity, and congrats!
Just one issue: the edition of the text has some problems, it gets really difficult to read, because of the jumps between lines. But the ideas you've explained are really good, so maybe by adjusting the edition and making it easier to read, you will ease the understanding of your readers.

I'm glad to give your very first merit. The first of many, I'm sure.
6576  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is the attack "51%" legal? on: June 19, 2018, 02:27:40 PM
In addition to the previous quotes, I should say that the 51% is not only illegal (if used by illegal activities), but immoral. It makes the credit towards the crypto world to decay. If the power of the transactions fall into a person or a colluded group of persons, then, where is the decentralization?
From my perspective, this is just another example of a scam, and break all the bases of the crypto, even if it is not used for "illegal" activities, the mere existence of the will of having the 51% of the power just shows how the crypto can be manipulated and breaks the credibility on the system.
6577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 betting ? on: June 19, 2018, 02:18:13 PM
Hey guys, in your opinion what are the best betting sites for the World Cup ? (Crypto or Fiat)

In general, if you choose fiat you will be demanded to pay a lot of taxes for your winnings. Depends on the country, but, for instance, in some regions or Europe is about the 52% of your winnings.
That's why I always choose crypto. Also, the winnings made in crypto can be used for trading (just another way of gambling???   Cheesy), so, yep, definitely, crypto.

Regarding the best site to bet, I think the best place now is NitrogenSports, they probably have offers by now.
