663  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 1 cent to $20,000 in 10 years. How ?? on: January 22, 2018, 11:21:06 AM
It actually traded as low as 0.0005, maybe lower. when it was just being traded privately.

The real question is, why did it take an entire 9 years to get here and who the hell sold for 0.0005? Bitcoin was always worth this price from the day that it came out.  but it has taken an entire 9 years to build the exchange infrastucture and attract the attention of all of the people to get it here. Thats 9 years of people who have lost to scam after scam to realize that btc was actually a new paradigm and the real thing.

What is this 'cost of production' crap I keep hearing. There is no such thing as a cost of production. Its a variable chosen entirely by an algorithm based on how many competitors there are. Lets say all the miners went out of business and there was just one guy left mining bitcoin on his laptop. His cost of production would be 0.

I suppose anything is possible. Nobody thought it would go to 6 cents in April but it did.

btc used to be 90% dominance. That changed when we started getting investors and retail traders who know nothing about cryptocurrencies, instead of all the buyers being from the technical community and knowing better. It's kind of like the penny stock market where average joe retail traders are buying up companies that dont even exist to a $100M market cap, just because its cheap. These are good days to be a developer or an altcoin trader, just not a bitcoin idealist.

673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 21, 2018, 12:13:13 PM
Don't you see that BTC lacks volume - all stay on alts - how can it break resistance - it can't break WEAK 13k - not to mention UBER 14k

Who will buy btc now - if some of you HODL, rest went for alts?

If it gets to 14k the bulls will go bat shit crazy

This would be a pretty weak ass downtrend. The new low is just another 15% and then it goes right back into previous trading ranges. That usually means its turning around in btc.
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin takes HUGE dip, Regulation becomes a concern and bitconnect turns in on: January 21, 2018, 11:52:36 AM
When was the huge dip? I only saw little squiggles. I guess Ive been in btc too long.
676  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next week Futures expire on: January 21, 2018, 11:51:00 AM
the futures dont affect us especially with the tiny volume there. Last time I checked it was like 100.
677  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 21, 2018, 11:46:13 AM
roach your comments true or not have nothing to do with the low volume at this point of the chart. there has been low volume before every major rally also.

How do you guys compute your taxes when...

You mined 1 ETH with your GPU ....

You sold 1 ETH and bought BTC ....

You held that BTC for a long time and then sold for USD ...

The 1 ETH is business income?
The BTC is considered capital gains?
Heres my question. In 2017. Ive held bitcoin for 3 years, then that bitcoin forked into bitcoin cash, which i sold for bitcoin. then i used the bitcoin and the bitcoin cash proceeds to trade dogecoin and make more bitcoin profits. then finally I sell some bitcoins for cash and withdrawal. How much of this is short term gains and how much is long term gains, or is it all long term gains since cash was the only thing that mattered in 2017? Also are the remaining bitcoins that I made in profit but havent sold taxable or not?

You dont need to keep track... the exchanges do for you and give you a nice detailed report of every single trade in csv.
The report the exchanges give me is tens of thousands of pages long full of everyone I traded against. They wont group it by just my trades. So it's impossible to work with. I already do a large amount of trades by myself.
