662  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / EARTHCOIN CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH A CONTEST – EAC 700K IN PRIZES!! on: April 22, 2014, 06:10:06 PM
To everyone in the EAC and Crypto communities,
We at Earthcoin are celebrating Earth Day today! We are holding a contest to name the smallest denomination of EAC, the EAC equivalent of a satoshi for Bitcoin.

–From now until May 7 (12 am Eastern) we will take suggestions from the crypto community here and at our other forums on what you would like Earthcoin’s smallest denomination (0.00000001 of 1 EAC) to be named.

–On May 7, all suggested names will be entered in a poll that will run until June 7. The name of the smallest denomination of 1 EAC will be selected through that online vote.

–On June 7, everyone who votes in the May 7-June 7 poll will have a chance to win EAC 700,000 in prizes! We welcome everyone to help us celebrate Earth Day by participating in this contest.

Our community has already started suggesting names on Earthcointalk, from ‘atoms’ to ‘taos’:

https://earthcointalk.org/forums/topic/name-earthcoins-smallest-denomination/

We welcome as many suggestions as possible. Any suggestions? Any questions? Post them below.
663  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Android Wallet Exclusives on: April 01, 2014, 07:15:49 PM
In case you missed it, we recently released the Android wallet for Earthcoin.  Not only does it sport a beautiful and friendly theme, but it features a lot of firsts.

As many of you know, we included transaction messaging into our desktop wallet.

We have also included the feature into the Android wallet (the main reason for the development delays) and we believe we are the first one to do so!  That means you can have "receipts" for your transactions and they are on the blockchain so they will be fully compatible with whatever Earthcoin client you are using.  Coupled with our fast transaction times, we are hoping to the best for Over the Counter merchant transactions.

We have also added an "Earthcoin" tab where you can get to the most useful earthcoin sites straight from your android wallet.  This will make it the go-to app for whether you want to check the latest EAC news, social network presence, charts, etc.

We are working with a new restaurant called Mango Bahia - http://www.mangobahia.com - on implementing an Earthcoin Over-the-counter experience and aim to document it in video form so it will be easier for other merchants to follow suit.

Stay tuned!

Earthcoin is dead.  Long live Earthcoin!

By Jay Kevin "Biomech" Putzier

The scuttlebutt says the coin is dead. Prices dropping into the teens, maybe lower. Too much production, not enough demand, and where the hell are the devs?

Further, they say that the hype is all we got going on for us. And the hype is dead. Great promise, they say, but now it's nothing.

I know you've heard it all. And amidst it, desperate cries for the developers to "do something" right now. Pump it up, make it smaller, make it bigger, do this, do that.. do something!!!

And of course, each camp with their pet theories, convinced that they are the saviours, and that ONLY their solution can possibly rescue Earthcoin.

Trouble with that is that in addition to calling for contradictory things, they are attempting to, to put it bluntly, put a band-aid on a sucking chest wound.

But what if the patient don't need a band-aid? What if there is not sucking chest wound? What if things are actually going according to the original vision, and just not happening as fast as we'd all like? Rome was not built in a day, and neither will Earthcoin's ecosystem.

The original vision of this coin is a global currency, used for trade and charity. Not just a thing to exchange on a currency exchange to get more bitcoin! There are hundreds of coins whose only purpose is just that. Maybe they had some vision, though a great many appear to just be a lark for people to play with. It's nice to have and play with shiny things, but that's not the purpose of Earthcoin.

The vision, to be very blunt, is a hell of a lot bigger than that. We envision a time when Bitcoins, Dollars, Euros and what have you are traded on exchanges where the BASE of the pair is Earthcoin. To make this happen, we need as a community to do some thinking, and some things.

The development team is indeed looking into various technical issues, securing the network being the primary one. From our side, we now have a dedicated team updating the wallet. It will include the latest code from the "standard" templates as well as our own very robust difficulty retargeting. It is right now, as you read this, being coded and tested. It will very soon be released, and yes, that will mean a hard fork. Not a big issue, really, and ample warning will be given. This will help to close any issues with securing the network.

However, this is only part of what needs to happen. Miners, this network is currently vulnerable due to it's size. We need asic farms online ASAP, with a good portion of their hashrate pointed at bitcoin. With a big enough farm of gridseeds, you can successfully and profitably solo mine, which further decentralizes and secures the network. We need to get this network big enough, quick, that nobody can take control of it via a 51% attack.

Also, on difficulty retargeting. Our tech experts have informed me in no uncertain terms that Kimoto's Gravity Well, which several of you have called for, has several serious vulnerabilities, including one known as a "time warp" attack. I don't understand it well enough to comment on it, yet, but it can cause forks. Our built in code, however, retargets both better and with far less vulnerability. It has been thoroughly tested and has passed with flying colors. It does what KGW is supposed to do, and it does it without the vulnerabilities.

Once that is done, and this can be ongoing, we need MERCHANTS! Lots of them. The more, the merrier, as the saying goes. Got something you know how to make? Especially something you can make by recycling what would normally go in the landfill? All the better that you make it and sell it for EAC. And HOLD that EAC while we grow, if at all possible. Exchange enough to replensish your materials and meet your expenses, certainly, but hold back most of it and sell it dear when you do sell it. Just because the multipools are willing to dump any coin at any price doesn't mean jack to our vision. They drive down the exchanges because they are solely interested in bitcoin. If we start branding Earthcoin as a true competitor, and following through, you'll see that change. You'll see them start to pay out in EAC instead of or alongside BTC, and they won't be selling it at the lowest possible cost just to move it. But even if they do, and you have other options, why sell it low? Who cares what they do? So they sacrifice their ten minutes worth. If we build a merchant ecosystem, then we don't NEED the exchanges, we get goods, services, silver, gold, land... Whatever. We make it a real currency, and the daytraders and multipools will become irrelevant. They'll also love us, because we'll drive the price up. Dramatically.

I recently started a separate thread with a list of the current merchants who accept Earthcoin. It had a couple errors in it as some had dropped out. It's still a fair list, but it has a problem. It's too short. There are a little over a dozen merchants accepting Earthcoin right now. There should be hundreds, building towards thousands. We at Team Earthcoin are working on this, but you need to as well. As mentioned above, you can do it yourself. You can also encourage people and businesses you know to take it either as full or partial payment for their goods and services. Earthcoin is traded on exchanges, thus has a real world value. Wider adoption will only drive the price higher. Think globally, but act locally. If every miner of Earthcoin, every holder of earthcoin, and every supporter or Earthcoin recruited JUST ONE business, we'd rival Bitcoin in acceptance in very short order. Think what you could do if you recruited two. Three. See what I mean? The problem isn't oversupply, it's underutilization. The Earth is abundant, and so is it's coin. This makes it useful for large and small transactions, and everything in between.

Go to It! We are!

Kevin Biomech for Team Earthcoin.

hey

i read this threads latest conflicts and I'm rly curios where EAC gets with this discordance.
it is funny to see that some aggressive fellas came back just to spread some shitty ideas about the code and so on...
changing to PoS wouldn't be an new innovation since Mint and Eccoin are advertising with exactly that strategy and do they win the cryptoleague? -nope.

the idea with PoS:
-People get coins for holding their shitloads of coins...
-coins will be generated without using computerpower...

---> eco.

aaaye.
on one hand you guys want to go away from the charitystuff, which was kind of unique as earthcoin was born, and on the other hand you want to change to a system which is working exactly as you guys want it (look eccoin, a mintcoin clone), but doesn't create value?

There was a moment of doubt and pain, followed by some (ongoing) transition. We're still down with charities, but also want to make sure that earthcoins are actually worth something to those charities.

We miss you Steve!

Jesus Christ. Tell yourselves a lie long enough you just might start believing it.

When this coin was at 180 satoshi, people asked for info on the behind the scenes development. WESand EAC or whatever kept saying soon soooon. And then it went sub 100 to 70.

Still there was a lot of back patting and "soon" sentiments calling anyone one with a different opinion a troll.

Then the coin went sub 50. Common sentiments being "SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE PREMINE".

Then sub 30. The former cheerleaders started to slowly realise their baby was dying. Devs were silent at this point.

Sub 20. The cult members who bought at 80 and told me to shut the fuck up were now scared and asking for the premine too little too late.

Now someone suggests a POS model to help curb the infaltion and all you jokers can think of is "LONG TERM!!! EAC WEAK HANDZ!"

It's like you guys don't even learn from your mistakes AT ALL.

And then you claim you can use EAC to but trinkets. Well I can trade a bubble gum for a hair pin, does not mean that is a currency. This coin will be sub 10 satoshi soon and you people will still be saying "LONG TERMZ" while asking other people to tell their friends about EAC.

The utter nerve of you guys. You have successfully burned all your potential investors and chased away the little fans you had left. Good job guys. "LONG LIVE EAC! LONG TERMZ!" just like every other currently 1 satoshi coin out there.

POS IS inflation, from any viewpoint including Keynes. We're trying to rebuild, not shoot the baby in it's crib.

wow..this coin died in the ass

Of course it is, people are buying articles on altoulet.com using earthcoins, all dead articles, you know, it are all zombie articles. Very nice that you can buy stuff with ashes!! What will happen when this coin was not dead? Buying houses or so?

Baby steps, man! Let's go for jewelry and silver first... Oh, wait. We got that. Maybe Houses ain't such a bad idea!

This coin ain't dead. I didn't start it, but this is my baby now. I'm not a quitter. It didn't go according to plan (as the above post), but I bought EAC today, and I will continue to acquire it and TRADE it for goods and services. I'll write for it, I'll sell trinkets for it. It ain't dead, it's in its infancy. We had one growth spurt, which settled down. We had a childhood illness, which is being cured. The Earth is our oyster, let's CLAIM IT!

Hello Earthlings.

I’ve been reading the forum, which it might not seem as I haven’t posted anything up for a bit, but I do see what y’all are talking about.

I’d like to address a couple of things on that right now.

First, the issue of the algorithm and rewards per block. I see a number of proposals out there, and I’ll tell you straight up that we are largely in line with ATXsilver on this. However, I want to go a little deeper.

So, Proof of Stake.

This may be the most uneconomic and stupid idea ever put forth in the crypto community. I doubt it, as that well has no bottom, but this is a coin. It’s supposed to faciltate trade and foster development of an ecosystem. This is anathema to simply hoarding it. As ATXsilver pointed out, it essentially incentivises taking your coins out of circulation for a long/indefinite period of time to “earn” a little extra coin. It’s illusory.

Let’s look at reality. In a system that doesn’t use fractional reserve and other such nonsense, you want to have money constantly building things. A savings account accrues interest because of it’s use, not it’s disuse. To wit: You deposit monies in a savings account at a financial institution. We’ll go with a Ceritficate of Deposit, as it’s the easiest to illustrate the concept with. This money is in the control of the financial institution for a minimum period. We’ll go with six months on this. If you pull it out of before the period is up, you incur a penalty. You forfeit a part of the earnings, sometimes even a part of the principle by doing this.

Why do you suppose that is?

I won’t leave you hanging too long. But do think about it for a moment before reading the rest of this.

The reason is in the mechanics of finance. A bank does NOT “create money” unless it engages in fractional reserves, which is a massive fraud. Wealth is created by making things and providing services in constant exchange. This is NOT a static process, ever. The bank takes that CD, which is a loan made BY YOU TO THEM for a specific period of time, and they invest it in the form of loans for various purposes, which are paid back at a higher rate of interest than your CD. They share the profits with you in the form of interest. This is a valid and highly lucrative method of making wealth. But if you pull out early, then they have to pay from other reserves to make you whole, and that’s a breach of contract. Luckily, that breach is within the contract in the form of penalties. This makes it so that you are less likely to breach, and they have incentive to make the most they can by trade and arbitrage while they control the money.

Proof of Stake, on the other hand, just has it setting there idly. This doesn’t improve the value of the brand, doesn’t help you, and doesn’t help the coin’s ecosystem. Nothing is being done with it. It is a reward for sloth, which should not be rewarded. It goes agains every non Keynesian economic principle. You’ll find few disciples of Keynes in the crypto world, and they aren’t going to like a dynamic economy anyway.

You want to earn interest on your coins? EARN IT! Make loans, make investments in people’s ideas with a specific, periodic repayment. Look up what Return on Investment really means, and you’ll have a firmer understanding of what I’m talking about, and why POS is a really amazingly bad idea.

Now, on to rewards reduction.

I think it’s a good idea to cut it sooner, but that halving early might be a bad idea. Perhaps cut it by 25 % in the near future, and then the “normal” halving on schedule. We also need a lot less focus on mining and a lot more on real world adoption. The mining is working more or less as intended. I’ll adress multipools at a later time, as the team and I are discussing that in depth now. I’ll say that I think they do less harm than is perceived, as they increase demand for the coin, and our difficulty adjustment is rather robust.

But cutting the reward down a bit might also drive prices up temporarily, and that could lead to speedier adoption if it’s played right.

So, on that note, whether we decide to do it or not, I would encourage those of you who mine to find better ways than exchanges to do things with your coins. And when you do, PROMOTE THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!!

Also, a flaw that was pointed out to me in exchanges. They tend to list the “last sale” as the “average” which means you can think a coin is trading robustly at, say 17 satoshis, when in fact that was one small sale.

This can be manipulated! BUY at a higher rate. And watch. I’m going to do this shortly, and we’ll see how the theory plays out. It may not be today, as I have time constraints, but it will definitely happen in the next few days. Watch for it.

That, coupled with making it somewhat more scarce, seems a good start to me.

Mining. Above I sort of disparaged mining. The statement was incomplete. Miners are absolutely vital to Earthcoin. But they are one aspect of many, and it is my belief that the other aspects are being marginalised by the focus on miners. ATXsilver, Centurion, and a few others are leading the way on the right path.

Ultimately, money is a unit of exchange for real world goods and services. When it ceases to be so, or fails to become such, it fails. Ultimately, all fiat currencies fail. In modern times, they have largely been “replaced” by another fiat currency, but historiclly it has defaulted to commodities, particularly precious metals. This is because it’s something that will always be of tradeable value.
But in the modern world, precious metals have become somewhat less of utility in the common market due to the sheer speed of transactions. This is where crytocurrency really shines. Even BTC, which is about the slowest coin out there, transacts orders of magnitudes faster over a distance than either Fiat or precious metals.
We can outshine bitcoin in this, as it will absolutely require systems of trust, like credit/debit cards, in order to transact in the meat world. It’s speed is good enough for online transactions, but it fails utterly for the guy that wants a cup of coffee. Our transactional speeds are swift enough without a third party to make that problem go away. This puts us in a great position to market Earthcoin as the next big thing. It’s not the only thing it’s got going on, though.

The miners make this speed happen, and as such deserve to be rewarded. I just think that the current exchange model is lacking, and that miners are not being proactive in this. EAC won’t sell at 20 satoshis if nobody will let loose of it for 20 satoshis. So, Again, I’m calling on the miners and traders to NOT sell low. I’d frankly set a mark at 100 sat, and sell no lower. If YOU think it’s worth that, and act accordingly, then others will see that, and the perceived value will increase dramatically.
As mentioned above, in the next day or two, I’m going to buy EAC at an ask price of 100 satoshis. I don’t have a lot of bitcoin, so this will be one guy doing his part. If a bunch of you do the same, you’ll pump the price up above that real quick. Exchanges are driven by emotion, not fact. That some traders have their emotions in check doesn’t change this, except for them. And they will manipulate the market in their favor. Nothing wrong with that, but if you UNDERSTAND it, you can be on the profitable side.
I will not buy EAC for less than 100 Satoshis as my offer. Yeah, at first I’ll probably snap up a bunch of buys along the way to that, because that’s how the exchanges are structured. But if just a few of us do this, nobody will sell at the low price anymore. I will not SELL for less than 150. I don’t need the money right this second. I can wait. If just a few of us take this approach, the coin will become much more valuable very fast. As a quick note, is there a way to restrict the buy or do it one to one on cryptsy? Because since I wrote this I tried the above on a very small test and it just took the lowest offer.

But exchanges are only a small part of the game. Talk to anyone you think will be interested in taking EAC as payment. Even if it’s only partial payment. Get grocers and what not interested in using it as a bonus program, online retailers to accept it as part payment or as a bonus program, writers of digital content to price their works in EAC, etcetera. This is what the dev team is focused on, and this is what will make Earthcoin viable for the future.

We have what it takes to take on the giants and come out a winner. We just have to do it.

Of course I am not going to sell at this price, I never sell at price lower than I bought Smiley I am just angry that it will take a long time to go up after this accident.

I picked your post because it seemed to sum up the feeling of a number of people, not a personal jab. We are going to promote the hell out of this coin. It is my firm desire to see you come back here in a few months bragging about how you bought when it was only at 500 satoshis Cheesy

You're the new Communications Officer ..Answer! the questions.

You seemed to have all the answers in laid out in ten easy points!!!

Frankly, we think the premine issue has been addressed adequately, aside from a post that I had prepared detailing it just before John chimed in. So I need to do a slight amount of revision before I post it up.

0rganic, do what thou wilt as far as blockchain forensics. The new team is interested in the future. The train wreck behind us is somewhere between current events and recent history. (bonus of 1000 EAC from my personal account to anyone who can tell me what that quote is from) To put this in some perspective, the funds unaccounted for don't amount to much. It is certainly an irritant, and an unfortunate development. But the current team cannot be focused on this to the exclusion of moving forward. Those who remain have control of the funds, we are going to detail every move going forward, and that's the best we can do.

We will have a much more detailed statement as to the premine in short order. It doesn't do to be hasty when doing accounting. I can do "off the cuff" quite well, but that's simply not adequate.

As to what John may or may not do with the funds that he took with him, we can only hope he does good things with them. But even if he just dumped them at current prices, that would just mean that some lucky trader got a lot of coin for not much. It is far FAR more important to us to raise the awareness of, utility of, and circulation of Earthcoin. That's where our focus lies, and that is precisely what we're going to do.

24Kilo, you've been with us from the start, and we are always glad of your input. We're gonna do right by you, like you've done right by us. Salud!

Now on the premine. There was a 270 mil EACs premine. Of which 70 mils are spent at various giveaways and bounties (see OP for a list of giveaways, which do not include all the giveaways, many are not in the list). I handled main giveaway thread where giveaways were distributed to close to 1000 users, small giveaways are done by community members where we handed off lump sums. The remaining 200M Norb and I each took 100M. I'll leave Norb to disclose whereabouts of his 100M. For me, I contributed 26 mils to the bounty fund we created in the team (to encourage helps for EAC), including the 10 mils granted to Wes. I also spent various amount to charities, support games/faucets etc. This left about 65 mil for myself. I am not going to disclose my wallet address, or say what I will do with the coins. All I can say is that I still hold most of them. The recent down turn is clearly a confidence issue, the amount being dumped is much more than 65 mils (remember the outstanding coins are about 1.8 billions now).

I dont know why people like what eac15678 did. For me its a normal robbery. There is a bright information in the first post:

"Premined 2% for promotions, giveaway, bounties, dev and long term support."

I didnt know "dev and long term support" means only 3 months of work and they take rest of money and run out. They took 165M which is 247.5 BTC at the old price 150 sat. This money should be used for development, not a private things. I feel cheated because I invested a lot of money and now I have 15% of it. I dont care if you can cooperate or argue. This money is not yours. This money belongs to community!!! For me you planned this robbery a long time ago. This coin was created to cheat the people.

There is only one way to help this coin. Please, return our money to the current team - dont be evil!

YOU DONT CONTINUE DEVELOPING == MONEY IS NOT YOURS, THIS MONEY BELONGS TO THE CURRENT TEAM OF EAC

The team feels that we're best off focusing on the future. We have control of the remaining funds, and will indeed be using them to develop this coin and community. We could try to go another direction, chasing all this down, but at the end of the day it would just be a waste of effort. It is our hope that John will use what he's got to further earthcoin, and perhaps even eventually come back to help us along. We're not going to accuse him of any malfeasance, nor wish him any ill.

We are moving on. I've been in constant contact with the rest of the team for the last several days. This is off the cuff, but I can tell you a few things we're working on and where are energies lie.

We are going to be doing a newsletter, probably on a weekly basis, biweekly at the worst. It will detail current bounties, feature some news related to earthcoin, and generally have a summary of where the team is at, where we think the community is at, and a preview of upcoming things (as we are able).

While we don't yet have a lead programmer, we do have a couple of people working on needed softwares. We're working on a new version of the wallet, an updated Mac wallet, getting the github account tree sorted and maintained, and actively recruiting more programmers. If you know one or are one, contact us! As of today, I will be logging in under this account every day, so I'll see and respond to any PM's, or pass them on to the relevant team members.

I will be updating the community at least every Monday and Friday here on Bitcointalk and at earthcointalk as well. Cryptozark is primarily taking care of our twitter and facebook feeds, and others in the team may post there as well from time to time. We will not go silent again.

Enough about us for a minute. I want to address the traders. I want you to understand something. If you are willing to sell at 17 Satoshis, that's what the coin is worth to you. If it's worth more than that, HOLD, and put a sell order in where you think it should be valued, where you would like it to be valued, and something really outrageous like 1 btc to an earthcoin. Hell, it's bits on an exchange, maybe somebody will bite Cheesy But seriously, if you refuse to part with 'em at low prices, the price will go up.

I would also encourage y'all to organize person to person trades, and post the (non identifying) details for all to see.

Merchants, we need more of ya! If you have something to sell, even just stuff lying about your house, put it to auction on Earthazaar. Volume will bring volume will bring increases. We all want the value to rise, but it's not going to do so simply from coin exchanges. If ya got something to sell, DO IT! And on that note, we're working on a few things to get you some support in the form of traffic for that.

Burn the white flag, raise the battle standard, man the cannon, and full steam ahead! Earthcoin!!!

No Reserve - I started them all at 1000 EAC - I am willing to roll the dice, and if someone gets a great deal then that's what the market priced my items at.

My vision is that Earthcoin will become relevant through real world commerce & trade. By offering these services and often selling silver at a discount to it's intrinsic value, the Earthpeople will eventually learn the value of this and then EAC price will reflect such as they rush to accumulate EAC and 'arbitrage' my silver sales. So I am taking a hit now on the pricing, but in the future I believe I will look brilliant by offering this service and accumulating EAC continuously for the foreseeable future. I admit it is a bit painful in the short-term, but unlike the 'DEVS', I HAVE TRUE LONG-TERM VISION. I am also willing to sacrifice and work to see this coin succeed, not just look to make a 'quick buck' off of unsuspecting innocents.

It will be I who will have the last laugh, when I am the largest holder of Earthcoin and help guide it back to new highs through REAL WORLD Capitalism & Free-Market Commerce. I will eventually get Gold, Gemstones, Loose Diamonds, Rarities, Collectibles, Etc. up on Earthazaar. I have even sold an iPhone 4S already LOL.

This is for real guys, and EARTHCOIN is here to stay. I am determined to make it so, and I implore the community to join me in these efforts. I will spearhead the rise to Glory that we will behold, and trust me, that day is coming. There are still some very dedicated & intelligent forces working behind the scenes that will 'Add Value' to this crypto. If you take a look at some of the other coins that are currently outpacing earthcoin, and what they have to offer in comparison to what we have to offer, you can clearly see the VALUE at the current prices. What we are dealing with is a crisis of confidence, and these prices we are currently at reflect nothing but panic. It is TIME TO BUY when there is BLOOD IN THE STREETS.

What can you do to help? 1) List SOMETHING on Earthazaar.com. Doesn't really matter what. Find something laying around that you find novel/useful to others. Take a picture with your phone/camera - email it to yourself. List it on Earthazaar as an auction or fixed price listing. If Everyone that currently owned Earthcoin did this, we would be by FAR the largest online store of an Alt. Cryptocurrency. And the News would spread like wildfire. This will become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and other will flock to our Banner in hordes. Ask not what your Earthcoin can do for you, but what you can do for your Earthcoin! Don't forget that a relatively small amount of Capital can get EAC moving upwards in a fantastic way. Only $15,000 on Cryptsy puts us at 50 Satoshi!!!

I believe that there are many others like myself who have the COURAGE to stand up and take hold of their dreams, and to make their dreams a reality. Working together we can DO ANYTHING. And when we reach critical mass, these dark days upon us now will be laughed upon with the clarity that is hindsight.

Now is the time to have free market capitalists, libertarians and Men with true vision and ambition take over and create wealth for hundreds of Earthcoin followers that will make 'certain people' have nightmares about 'what might have been'.

After all, a wise man once said, “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”

Despite the swipe at the team, I have to love this post!

This is how we do it, ladies and gentlemen. And I can assure you, audience and ATXsilver alike, the Dev team is firin' the boilers and getting ready to make steam. We're getting organized, recruiting talent, and hittin' that big flashing reset button in short order. We've about got the past pigeonholed, and have a fair grip on who is doing what and when. Things happened, as y'all know. Now we got new blood and a new attitude, and this coin is going places.

Good Evening!

If it’s morning for you, sorry about your luck and I hope the coffee is good.

Earthcoin has been through hell lately. On exchanges alone, which are one valid measure of a coin’s success, it has dropped to next to nothing from a very robust opening. Meanwhile, the Dev team has had internal turmoil to deal with, to the point where they were not sure they wanted to continue, and while figuring that out had to deal with an often angry and sometimes panicked community.

So, who do we blame for all this?

Who cares. Blame is a useless game. It solves nothing. So now, I’ll ask a different question: “How do we mend it?”

We have some of those answers, and we’ll find the rest as a community. This coin and it’s community have a lot of talent, a lot of (currently subdued) enthusiasm. What all of us need to do is ask ourselves, why were we enthusiastic about this coin to begin with? What made Earthcoin stand out? Why THIS coin when there are so many to choose from?

I can answer that for myself. But I can’t answer it for you.

Behind the scenes, the Earthcoin team has been trying to find its way forward, while addressing the legitimate concerns of the community at large. As most of you are now aware, one of the core members has left the team and took with him a substantial portion of the premine. He had his reasons, and we wish him well. Even if all he does is spend those coins from this point forward, we owe him some gratitude, as the coin’s mechanics would not exist without him. But he is gone, and we must move forward.

Our attitude is to basically hit the reset button. We cannot undo the past, and quite a bit of it was good so we wouldn’t want to. We are going forward with the attitude of a new launch, without the hassle of a new launch. Earthcoin shall rise again. After all, it’s the coin of our homeworld!

One of the issues that the community has been rightfully concerned about was the relative silence of the development team in recent weeks. I can tell you that there was no malfeasance here, just some confusion and frustration. The core team has been as frustrated as many of you. We now have to start again. To that end, some new people have been brought into the core team, and we are still seeking others to help move Earthcoin forward.

So without further ado, I’d like to introduce the core team of Earthcoin, as it stands today.

Here we go.
Norb, also known as Cryptoboomer, was one of the two original developers. He remains, and helps to guide us. Much of the original vision for the coin, as well as it’s branding and visuals come from Norb. He has provided the overall framework and continues apace. He remains an enthusiastic supporter and a drivng force behind Earthcoin.

WesandEAC  Was brought on board by Norb as the first additional team member, and has helped with the bounties and projects both public and private for the team. He brings a lot of enthusiasm and real world business experience. He’s also tenacious as a bulldog and willing to take risks.

CryptoZark is a media man, with ties to the music industry and a very creative mind in his own right. He is also helping to organize bounties, initiate projects and further the technical and social development of Earthcoin. He was responsible for the new Getearthcoin.com and maintains the social networks. Quite a bit of the design work beyond the core cryptography belongs to ‘Zark.  He is the second newest core member.

Centurion operates Earthcointalk and Earthazaar. He has tirelessly promoted the coin since it’s founding, and never lost faith. His contributions to the coin cannot be overstated, and his merchant platform is part of how we’ll take Earthcoin to the top of the Crypto world.

Linki a.k.a. Earthshit is taking on some of the software development role that the departure of “John” has left unfulfilled. He is a strong coder and has a lot of good ideas. He’s currently working on a better version of the Earthcoin wallet, among other needed things.

Sprocket is responsible for our reddit tipbot but will also take on programming tasks when available.  He used to work in bioinformatics and human genome research, but now runs a farm full time.

J. Kevin “Biomech” Putzier is a long time forum dweller and an early cheerleader for the coin. Norb recruited me a few days ago to handle addressing the public and to basically be the voice of Team Earthcoin. I have a loud mouth and I know how to use it. I will be handling the newsletter and weekly updates, coordinating with the rest of the team to keep you all informed, and throwing out random ideas for the smarter people to use or dismiss.

Danny Rogers and hypemanrickbtc are both professional video content creators.  Danny also runs the Urban Farming project on Earthcointalk.

24Kilo runs Moonacres farms and the and also spearheaded the Mining for food project.

Ethernetizen is a project manager and has been organizing some of our docs and teams. He is also a sysadmin with a background in hospitality and sales.
Hospitality and Sales.

Ringhoy has given us http://earthcoinGear.com but he also has skills in the area of Programming, Language Translation, and Merchant Services.

Also on the team (who are eager to help once tasks are properly organized are danK, SEDRChang, Tjs, Billy the kit, Johannes Reichau, João (legal), Robbie (who spearheaded the Jaguar Center initiative), takako (chinese liason), and ThatMouse.

We also have 1KB to thank for kickstarting the team organizational process.  Also huge thanks to SteveoMB who helped to guide the beginning of the roadmap.  We will fill in the rest as a team!

It seems that the biggest error, and this was unintentional, was silence from the team. We are not going to make that mistake again. We will be right out in the open with our projects and goals, and will be actively seeking the participation of the Earthcoin community. Stay tuned, there won’t be static on the band anymore.

Going forward, we are going to push this coin into the public awareness by any means we can find. We need your help in that. Push it. Talk about Earthcoin every chance you get. Evangelize the coin. We will do the same.

All suggestions are very welcome, and none will be dismissed out of hand. If we do not choose to directly support something you want to happen, we will definitely not stand in the way of YOU making it happen!

Hi family,

We are going to try to coordinate an IRC chat later today (Thursday) for the EAC team to be there for an open Q&A and some disclosure for you guys from the premine concerns and some info re the internal team.

Will let you guys know more when we start our day re what time will work best.

Cheers.

Just want to say thanks to all who have posted recently, have been watching/reading:

1. My absence: It shouldn't rely on one person, and hopefully it doesn't, however I've had to tend to personal matters and thus haven't been able to check in as much as I'd like so apologies - nobody is going anywhere and the rest of the team was/is still here and I will be getting someone to help look after this account again shortly so you guys have fast access to us.

Premine::

 - What would make you guys sleep better? You want to see the teams wallets? You want a public ledger? Then what? What if the price still doesn't skyrocket but dips more? What if our premine is fully intact despite your accusations as it is?

2. Taking it over/forking - While that truly would suck, and I don't want to see this, if you guys do this - you will see for yourselves what it takes to try to launch a coin and all the branches that grow on you out of nowhere that take over your life even if you get a group of great people to help thanks to a crazy deregulated market.

I still have not sold ONE coin and don't need to as this isn't an opportunistic move for the team it's a long term project and journey and we have funds/money already from previous life moves. I've helped push eac various times with my own money, I've pretty much sacrificed most other things in life for the past two months to see this through. Unfortunately it hasn't just kept climbing however neither have other coins far more established than us. The others in the core group have also not dumped any of their coins, including Wes despite him taking the brunt of the hate lately.

Maybe what we'll do is take screenshots and provide addresses and do a send to myself so you guys can see that only things the premine have been used for are the giveaways and bounties and the rest is still there... If all that's missing for you guys is some trust and more transparency I'm game. The dumps you guys are seeing are not from the team, they are from miners, shops, weak hands (or profit takers however there isn't much profit atm).

We apologize for not being as bullish lately however the whole industry is upside down atm and we're unfortunately still waiting on things like the ap wallets and upgrading the wallet itself. I do feel that once we are over the current low phase things will get better.

Thank you.

...

The team is excited and we're doing a lot of stuff here that will be reflected on the front end in the coming weeks - we ask for everyone's patience while we develop and rollout the new tweaks and assets.

That was your last post (approx. 2 weeks ago).  Roll Eyes

So where are all the exiting news? I don't see much coming up from the devs.

By the way: How many from those 200+ Mil. premined coins are left?  Cheesy

I agree, been meaning to bring this up for a while - i'd love an audit, ledger or whatever to account for the 270mil premine - you can check the blockchain but its like chasing a rabbit down a hole, alot of it has been split up and used for god knows what http://earthchain.info/address/eUrViTV2M3aTk3dCuxqiuGse4hdv2vYgfn

I was speaking to a buddy, who's a large investor in altcoins, as i was trying to sell EAC to him and the first thing he said to me, "270mil premine, not touching that."  I think this is a big downer on this coin, especially for serious investors though lack of transparency.  The devs should do similar to what UTC did with its 2% pre-mine and give a public ledger of where its going.  Also people should be getting paid from this pre-mine, the guy who did the mobile app etc.  He shouldnt have to be paid out of the community's donations, thats what the pre-mine is meant for.

Anybody else feel the same?  If there was no pre-mine associated with this coin we'd probably already be over 300 satoshi.

ive been scouring the blockchain. the devs are sure being smart (?) about trying to cover their tracks.

they have some kind of bot or script running which is doing the following:
sending (20,000+ EAC to new address(A) + remaining balance to new address (B))
then, from B (20,000+ EAC to address (C) + remaining balance to address (D)
then, from D (20,000+ EAC to address (E) + remaining balance to address (F)
and so on and so on.
these transactions are happening every 1-5 minutes at first, then slowed to every few hours. with erratic transactions thrown in.

im down to 50,000,000+ of the original premine as of Dec. 23rd and still going through them.
edit, the trail went cold at approx 1/09/204, with ~10,000 EAC left

if you think the devs havent been dumping that premine to exchanges, you're kidding yourselves. i was on board with this coin until i saw this.

I can do some basic detective work as well.  If I were to guess why the premine was being transferred from wallet to wallet my first though would be...  I dunno.  Something having to do with these threads?

or maybe it was these faucets.
http://admindependencia.net/eacfaucet.html
http://www.thebitcoinmaster.com/earthcoin/index.php

or if you look at the original post in this thread, the there are bounties for any shops or services that support EAC?  So that would be any of these?
http://getearthcoin.com/business-and-trade

Or how about the people that received bounties for working on the site, twitter, facebook, reddit, IRC channel, IRC bot that INCLUDED giveaways, Earthcointalk, the Blockchain Explorer that you did your investigation on?

How do you know if the devs are trying to cover up the premine or if they are legitimately just paying people out and using the premine for promotions and giveaways?

Also, I can tell you where some of the premine went or why the price might be acting the way it is even though there may be some uncomfortable truths ahead.

So some people may or may not remember this, but when Earthcoin first launched, there was an online wallet site called instant-wallet.com

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=391885.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=379236.msg4459069#msg4459069

Anyway, you can see that the online wallet ended up being a scam.  So not only was that developer (BoostNZ) paid a bounty, but then @Earthcoin paid people back who had their funds stolen.  I asked the devs at the time (before I started working on projects for them) why they didn't address it more publicly and they said that there was no way to really verify who did or didn't have funds on that site and how much, so if it was heavily publicized, then EVERYONE (even non EAC holders) would just start saying they lost X million EAC, so it made the most sense that people who actually lost money would contact the devs.

Doge, which is arguably one of the most successful alts in recent history had an online wallet theft around christmas (and instant-wallet.com scammed multiple currencies).  BTW, they still offer an online wallet.

Also, here is another uncomfortable truth, but I think it is better to deal with facts and reality.  The user who was working on the iphone app (kitkat007) has been MIA since Jan 25th.  Personally, I trust him as I've spoken to him on IRC and seemed to be competent and trustworthy.   Honestly, I am just hoping and praying that his absence is not due to anything serious.

However, you'll notice that on the list of bountiable items, the iphone wallet exists again.
http://earthcoin.eu/?p=293

Yes.  So a bounty was paid on a wallet that was not yet delivered and yet it is on the table again in case kitkat007 can not come through.  We hope he does, but now we need a backup plan.

Here is another thing that we have to keep in mind. Regarding the android wallet app, Xploited has been doing an awesome job on it.  We don't need to rehash the whole situation again, but even though he was able to quickly and successfully create wallet apps for other coins, Earthcoin proved to be far more time consuming because of the transaction messages field on the blockchain.  This made the architecture different enough so that what was very easy to accomplish for other coins, required him to get outside help from another accomplished android wallet developer, HashEngineering, and even then it still proved difficult.  This has pushed back the original timeframe even more and affected some of the original strategy for the Earthcoin team.  Many people on this thread have tested out some of the early betas and can attest that it is now functional.  Now he is spending time really customizing it for us for the Earthcoin community to make it stand out among other android wallets. So again, bringing on another developer and of course a bonus to Xploited for the countless amount of extra hours he has put into the project

But yes, these delays can cause faith to get shaken a little bit and strategies to change.

Anyway, about a month ago, I felt the Earthcoin devs were doing things in ways that could be done better so I offered plenty of suggestions.  Instead of simply saying "you're doing it wrong" I actually just offered fixes for them.  I pointed out grammar mistakes on their site, copy changes, told them how some of the social stuff should be handled, and updated the community like I am doing *right now* on this thread.  I think after I gave them some instructions on how they should configure their webservers to properly migrate earthcoin.biz to getearthcoin.com, they saw that I knew what I was doing so they brought me on to work on overhauling the site.

I was bountied upfront for it, but after being with the team for awhile and knowing that they too have to worry about missing developers, scammers or projects not being completed, I understand now why the developers would like to see more community action before just giving away bounties here and there for people who may or not be able to come through.  That is why I completed a bunch of extra tasks for them and I ended up being rewarded bounties for those actions as well.

By the way, before everyone start accusing the developers of dumping the premine when the price is low, has it ever occurred to anyone that merchants are simply cashing out their EAC orders?  You order something from a site in EAC, and if you didn't also buy that same amount of EAC, that means that in order for the merchant to collect their fiat payment for whatever product you bought, they have to sell to BTC and exchange that to fiat in order to cover their hard costs for their inventory.  Some might choose to keep EAC, but you know that many merchant are probably configure to dynamically price their products in EAC using the coinpayments API and have it set to autosell.  By the way, when I buy a product priced in EAC, I by some EAC at it's current price before purchasing because I assume the seller will turn around and sell at current market price since they have hard costs to consider.  Also, since I bought EAC at higher prices than it is today, I don't have to feel bad that I am spending X-times amount in fiat if the EAC I am spending is at today's cheaper market rate and I know my purchase added buy-side support.

Oh, and you want to see what dumping by a developer *really* looks like?  Go read the last 50-100 pages of the Pandacoin thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=460037.0 - EAC is nothing like that.

Here is also another uncomfortable truth that I think we all have to face in order to move forward.  The fact that the price is dropping right now may be built in to the design of the coin.  It took me awhile to notice this, but the mining rewards happen along a sine curve.   I think many of us knew this but didn't really understand what this meant. The more I thought about it, that means coin production going into spring will be increasing and since price is a factor of supply and demand, you need more investment going in daily to the coin in order to maintain its current price.  I *think* that maybe it was designed so that it would create a kind of boom and bust cycle so you would need more community involvement to maintain the price in it's early days to create the demand for the coin (part of the reason why I got involved), or the price would be lowered to the point where it would get more EAC into the hands of more people.  Maybe some people realized this and are selling now because they think it will be cheaper during peak coin production.  However, as we have seen in previous 2x and 5x days, some people end up keeping the price up when they think that it will be the lowest so people who tried to short it and ended up not being able to buy back cheaper.  I am not giving investment advice and can't claim to know when the best time is to buy, but I will say that it seems to me that the early days are for growing out the ecosystem and that price should theoretically go up naturally as coin production decreases and eventually halves at the end of the year.

Regarding anonymity.  I can't speak for the core devs, but even as someone who started working on EAC recently, I have family, a girlfriend that I live with, and a day job to worry about.  I don't want to  put any of these people or myself at any sort of risk in case something goes wrong with EAC.  Putting up my personal info opens me up to being harassed, threatened, hacked etc even if I do everything honestly and legitimately.  I have a lot of respect for those people that are willing to put their information out there in public, but my private security is one thing I would rather not have to worry about.

As for the bounties being detailed?  Again, I don't know the specifics, but my initial guess would be that maybe the bounties being given when EAC was 400-1000 satoshi would be different (either in EAC or in fiat) as the bounties being given when bounties being rewarded at 60 satoshi.  Or maybe a merchant that obviously has a low traffic site is given a different bounty than a merchant that has a high-visibility site with an active customer base.  It would be very easy for people who have been given bounties to start saying that hey felt whatever they were given was unfair compared to others even if they were rewarded a fair value for what they were providing and at what time.  The developers can chime in of course, but that is my theory.

Anyway.  Those are my thoughts.  They are not an official stance, but it is the stance of someone who has been both an outside supporter from the Earthcoin community and as someone who started to work more closely with the team.  We all need to move forward and I plan on helping organize the community to complete specific tasks to move Earthcoin forward, but anyone can and should do the same.

I would still like feedback on whether my draft to the developer's board is a good one.  The only feedback I've gotten so far is that some people don't think implementing anonymity like coinmixing, coinjoin, zerocoin, etc will be good because their may eventually be a government crackdown on anonymous transfers (even though fiat cash is already anonymous by nature.  I have heard that many original bitcoin advocates such as Andreas Antonopolous feel like the one big failure of bitcoin was that real anonymity was not baked in from the start because now you have people being target for donating to organizations like wikileaks, or if you wanted to support an egyptian blogger during the arab spring or the rebel groups fighting in Ukraine, could someone eventually come after you?  If you bought coins from an exchange that had previously gone through a site like the silk road, would you come under investigation?  This doesn't happen with fiat and you won't even have those types of options with credit cards.  So please give feedback on the following.

-----  Reposting since this may have gotten lost in the thread ----

I've drafted the following message that will be posted to the developers board.  Any suggestions or comments?

---------
Seeking coin, wallet, and service developers.  Bounties Available.  Escrow needed.
We at Earthcoin have been watching various alt coins make new developments over the last couple months.  There have been many contributions to cryptocurrency technology that we’ve found desirable.  However, to ensure the stability of our community and network in our early days, we wanted to wait as long as possible before doing anything that would required a hard fork.

However, now than transaction malleability vulnerabilities have reared their ugly heads and with scrypt ASICs just around the corner, it seems as though a mandatory upgrade and hard fork is inevitable in the near future.  Now we are seeking your input and your help to make Earhtcoin the most competitive alt out there.  We want to take all the latest features in the alt market and combine them into one coin.

This is what we are looking for.

Upgrading our base/wallet code to be based off of the latest upcoming bitcoin/litecoin code that incorporates the fix for transaction malleability.

ASIC resistance (Via Vert’s Scrypt Adaptive-N or scrypt-jane or whatever the community feels is most appropriate) along with corresponding mining and pool software.

Built in anonymity such ascoin mixing similar to the recently-released Fedoracoin feature or Darkcoin’s coinjoin implementation.  We eventually look forward to implementing the Zerocoin anonymity protocol.

We currently have a block target time of 1 minute and retargeting difficulty every block to make us resistant to transaction stalling from multi pool hopping.  Can anyone give us any reason why we would benefit from Kimoto’s Gravity Well implementation?

We would like to change our bonus reward days (2X and 5X days) to give blocks only when BOINC is running like Gridcoin.  We like the idea of using your extra computing power to also help scientific progress.

We would like a more custom wallet…  MUCH more custom. Not just nicely designed like Megacoin, Worldcoin, Copperlark, etc, but we would like something that can contain price/hash chart information, links to our network of websites and merchants, news feeds, and mining setups.  It does not necessarily have to be Qt based, but it must at the very least match all of the Qt wallet’s functions.  If we have a working Earthcoinj (java implementation of Earthcoin) then perhaps we can build off of that.

Currently, we support transaction messaging through the blockchain like Florincoin and we believe that our Android wallet (which is to be released soon) is one of the first if not *the* first to support this feature.  This does create an extra field in block chain transactions that programmers will have to account for.  Perhaps we can make this more useful and include metadata about transactions similar to simple.com or mint.com so types of transactions (goods, services, mining, trade, etc) can be tracked in a nice, sortable interface.

We want everything to be easy, easy, easy for the first time user.  That means we would like to have links inside the wallet pointing the user to help files on the web with audio and video that explain everything from mining to the nature of cryptocurrency itself.   That means we’d like preconfigured files for the solo miner and various pool miners, including an easy way to connect to any pools in an updated list of pools and preconfigured bat files for the CPU, AMD or Nvidia miner.

Pie in the sky idea, but if there are even developers that can help build next generation services on top of our block chain (similar to what Mastercoin has done with Bitcoin) then we are open to that as well.

Any and all ideas are on the table here.  The only limitation at this point is that we still want to be based off of the fully-tested and well understood bitcoin/litecoin base rather than something like NXT.

Please discuss the above, let us know what your wish list items are and we will bounty it.  All of the above should be done through escrow so you know we will deliver and we know you will as well.  We want nothing less than the best.

However, if people have great ideas that they want to bring to the table, contact someone on the team or let's start an open discussion.

Really glad to have CryptoZark as a part of our team, this was well written.

Times might be scary but nothing has changed from the internal team.
