661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LastPass hack - move your crypto assets to a more secure place right now! on: November 01, 2023, 08:32:03 AM
I am just coming across this news right now, and need i say that this is absolutely shocking? This is indeed shocking, as I myself have been a very active user of LastPass all through 2018 to (i think 2021), and even up until now, some of the passwords to my email addresses are still passwords obtained from LastPass.

I sure have not noticed anything like a hack on any of my emails but i guess this is a warning for me to change them, though i am no longer using LastPass, but somehow, i think this passwords may still be on their platform, thank you OP for bringing this topic up here, this is indeed a wakeup call for us all, i also will be working on buying my first hardware wallet, all this online hacks have become one too many to not give attention to.

I'm also a fan of Lastpass but this isn't the first time they've been hacked and their customer data stolen. Almost every year I hear about this password manager being hacked and I have given up on it since 2020 until now. It's the worst app I've ever used.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say LastPass is the worst app I've ever used, because it did many things right.  Their password generation and seamless integration with browsers was great.  But that's worthless if your private info gets compromised.

If you still use this password manager (or did in the past but reuse those passwords), the best course of action would be to switch to something like KeePassXC or KeePass2.  And change all the passwords LastPass saved, like right now.  If this news about hacked wallets connects to LastPass's hack last year there's no telling what other info could get exposed later.  Things may look okay today but your credentials are still at risk.

Breaking news: Fxsurfer is back!  Cheesy

663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I, we, run a bitcoin node? on: October 30, 2023, 07:48:52 AM
Ok, I was a bit overboard on the power and cooling.  On the other hand, a Raspberry Pi cannot run a full node with the entire block chain.

Why would you think that? Of course it can. But if you want to run a Bitcoin node even cheaper, you can check out this guide.
[Guide] How to run a Bitcoin Core full node for under 50 bucks!

But no reader has admitted to running a node.  I would really like to hear thoughts and comments from someone running a full node.

I admit, I've been running a Bitcoin Core full node for well over a year now.  Wink
664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NOOB: Question regarding USDT BEP20 problem ! on: October 29, 2023, 10:58:11 PM
Thank you so much I did not expect this help. What an awesome community , happy to be here! And yes indeed recently I have seen an increase in potential customers willing to pay with cryptocurrency that I refused because I did not know nothing about it. I am glad I found this place with nice people willing to help newbs like me and I will use this forum to get more informed and learn more about the crypto space even tho I am a little late and I feel like I kind of missed the train.
Cheers!

Don't worry one bit about joining the crypto community late.  This space is always growing and changing, so there are constantly new chances to learn and participate.  I'm glad you already see some potential customers who want to pay with crypto - that's awesome! My advice is to stay active in the community, maybe even start your own thread in the Services board.  You really never know where your next client might come from when you put yourself out there.

That's not any proof. What about the deals that were gone through and the positive feedback?
Positive feedback?

LoL That was negative feedback for an account which got hacked and started spaming something.

LOL! That's a negative feedback from your profile, the account you're currently using!

Only serious trusted people here please .

666  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are successful gamblers seen as addicts? on: October 29, 2023, 09:53:37 PM
<cut>
Such people are not addicts.

You make a good point.  Just because someone makes bank at the casino or betting on sports doesn't automatically make them a gambling addict.  It's more complicated than that.  There are definitely gamblers who make a ton of money gambling but don't have a problem.  but there are also dudes who win big and are still total degenerates. But that's another story.

So I'd say success isn't the only ingredient in the gambling addiction stew.  It's more about the mentality.  Can you walk away when youre up? Or does winning just make you want to bet more? There's plenty of people who gamble responsibly and plenty of others who just can't stop.  Hitting it big doesn't automatically make you one or the other.
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I, we, run a bitcoin node? on: October 29, 2023, 09:03:04 PM

The disadvantage is the cost of the computer and storage space, and the cost of electricity and cost to cool my house.

You can run Bitcoin node even on a Raspberry Pi or similar computer hardware. The power consumption of a Raspberry Pi is approximately 4W, which is on par with a standard home Internet router. And no, there's no need for special cooling in your home because of such a device.
668  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crypto News Site Created Recently on: October 29, 2023, 01:00:49 PM
I took a quick look at your site and there's some interesting content there! But like others said, there are some areas that need some attention.

First thing your website is kinda slow to load - that can make people bounce real quick.  Optimizing the speed should be a top priority.  Also you gotta get an SSL certificate ASAP.  And yeah, definitely fix that www redirect thing that examplens already pointed out.  I tried the link you shared and it still doesn't work.

On the plus side some of the content is interesting.  But there are already so many similar sites out there. You gotta think about how to stand out.  Maybe add a comments section to encourage user engagement? That could make the experience more interactive.

Overall there's potential but still work to be done.  Don't get discouraged though - take the feedback and run with it!
669  Other / Meta / Re: Services board is very hard to browse on: October 29, 2023, 09:41:41 AM
I don't think signature campaigns are the "problem" here, the "problem" is that not many other services are being offered.

--snip long example--

80% of those topics is created by users with a total of 0-4 earned Merits. That tells you all you need to know about how valuable those topics are. Without signature campaigns, the Services board wouldn't be worth checking anymore.

Based on example you mentioned, few of them probably should be moved to either Digital goods, Invites & Accounts or Service Announcements board.

I think that's the whole point here. With all the signature campaign offers, low-quality service listings, and off-topic discussions in the mix, the truly valuable offers often end up buried and lose their well-deserved spotlight.

Here are a couple of offers I found on the second page with just a quick glance, all posted (or bumped) by senior/reputable members in the past few days:

670  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greed or risk on: October 29, 2023, 08:54:54 AM
The debate didn't end well, so I decided to bring this up here to see the responses from experienced gamblers.

Why even engage in debate with him? That's his calculated risk and his decision. Those who can't handle risks involved shouldn't be gambling at all.

Besides, if you're going to call it greed, then I guess we (gamblers) are all greedy by your definition. I don't agree with that.
671  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: October 28, 2023, 08:04:23 AM
I understand that the population of Edo State is estimated at over 4.7 million [1], but damn, this is such a coincidence:

Username: cantsay
Gender: male
State of resident : Edo state
Skills: graphics design, web developer

Username: Dextro1
Gender: male
Country/state of origin: Nigeria/Edo State
Skill: Graphic Designer

Another almost identical case, involving another Nigerian: Usasauki2004
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469050.msg62938877#msg62938877

All things considered, I'd say either work buddies or an alt accounts.

@OP I respect you and don't take this as personal, what's the conclusion from your accusation?

Let's assume if @Dextro1 is @Cantsay's alt and abuse of merits, what's the punishment? a DT member can't tag someone because of abusing merit.

If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.

That quote is taken out of context. Read the whole post by theymos and the post to which the reply was referring. Also, bones261 talked about a "red tag", there was no mention of a neutral tag.
672  Other / Meta / Re: Why is Halloween not being celebrated in our forum yet this year? on: October 27, 2023, 09:07:59 AM
We saw in our forum that last year a contest was started to celebrate Halloween from 7th of October but why not this year.
But you registered just a few days ago, how do you know about last year's Halloween contest?  Tongue

Oh, I'm sure it's just a coincidence. OP probably joined the forum with the noble intention of diving deep into the world of Bitcoin, but quite by accident stumbled upon last year's Halloween contest buried down in the "Collectibles" board, locked and forgotten for over eight months. So he decided to ask about it in the Meta board, as any other newbie would. Nothing strange about that.
673  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: October 27, 2023, 07:46:26 AM
What are the advantages of the airg gapped wallet?

ENG: I'm sure you've heard the term "air-gapped" before. It basically means the device is totally disconnected from the network, so there's zero chance of any data from that device ending up online. When it comes to hardware wallets, this often involves using QR codes to allow communication between the device and the software. Some devices use microSD cards to transfer transaction data back and forth.

Personally, I only have Bitcoin - nothing against other coins, so a wallet that only accepts Bitcoin was interesting. I just wouldn't want to spend a small "fortune". Would Trezor be the best option?

Osim Ledger-a, naravno.

ENG: Trezor Safe 3 is probably one of the best options for the price. It's hard to say which one is the absolute best because each wallet comes with its own set of pros and cons. You'll likely make a good choice with any of the most popular models, except for Ledger, of course. While the devices themselves might not be bad, they are closed-source, and the company's recent actions have raised concerns. If you're unsure about two or three devices, list them here, and we'll outline their advantages and disadvantages to help you make a more informed decision.

675  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: October 26, 2023, 05:02:05 PM
If they fully understand what they are getting themselves into and still do it, yes.
Most likely, they simply don’t understand anything.

Just the kind of user Ledger have been searching for all along! The only problem is, there seems to be an abundance of such users!

Let's face it, if someone were to offer a service like this for free, everyone would be screaming "SCAM!" But because Ledger slapped a subscription fee, it suddenly became a legit service for the ignoramus ignorami.
676  Economy / Reputation / Re: Question about signature campaigns - paid advertising, or personal endorsements? on: October 26, 2023, 01:48:08 PM
By definition, endorsements can be considered a form of advertising. Your forum signature space is your personal territory, and you're free to put whatever you like there, based on your own judgment. Whether you call it advertising or endorsement, the key factor is your personal moral perspective. Would you be okay with promoting something you'd never use yourself? If your answer is yes, it might suggest lower moral standards. If your answer is no, then whether it's an endorsement or another advertising form doesn't really change the ethical aspect.

By the way, your poll is still a bit misleading. Endorsing and encouraging are not the same thing. Even if I were to endorse a brand or service, it doesn't mean I would encourage everyone to use it.
677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost wallet or something like that on: October 26, 2023, 11:02:55 AM
But I can not remember much more to answer questions.
I think it is all lost then.
Thanks for all who tried to help.

Yep, if you can't remember anything more than that, you can consider whatever you had in that wallet lost. It won't help you to think about what could have been.

But as a side note, you could give it a shot by going back through all your notes from that time, if you've got any. I'm in the habit of jotting down all sorts of stuff and little reminders on paper, and I almost never throw away my old notebooks. You never know what you will find there that might jog your memory.
678  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone explain how liquidation works ? on: October 26, 2023, 07:19:41 AM
This liquidity of a thing ...

OP asked about liquidation (in terms of trading), not liquidity. Don't try to explain things you don't understand yourself.
679  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: SCAM upozorenja Zbirni topic on: October 25, 2023, 11:51:14 AM
Ali ako ti i Lunorael više volite platili onda go for it  Wink

Quote
What paywalls can be removed?
There are two types of paywalls that block articles: hard paywalls and soft paywalls. The difference is that soft paywalls are used to cover the article, but the article is on the page. Hard paywalls do not have the article until the user pays. This means that there is no way to see the article unless you pay. One example of this is TechCrunch premium articles. The best way to know would be to test the article and see if the paywall is removed. If not it is most likely a hard paywall that cannot be removed.

Nije to full clanak.
