misterbigg,

Are you affiliated with OpenCoin or any of their affiliates/subsidiaries?
662  Economy / Goods / Re: Possible Airplane for Sale ~1500 BTC = Very Nice Single Engine 4 Seat Bo on: May 20, 2013, 07:22:14 PM
You're going through great lengths to keep information opaque yet will release full information for a measly 0.01BTC?  I don't follow the logic unless this is to scam someone out of 1BTC.

You have to give all info out to sell an airplane, that is just how it is.

Actually I would not make 0.01 BTC, that would just be the transfer fee to Bitcoin-QT to send the 0.99 BTC back to you, again I added the John K option if you want to work out the deal with him and pay him his escrow fees (therefore he would make 0.015 to send a PM and then a transfer back to you).   Once I get your info and verify I will tell him to send it back to you and I will release the information.

That's more than you need to pay for tx fees.  0.0005BTC is sufficient for most transactions unless you have a lot of "dust."  I would update your client since you're essentially wasting money on high fees that doesn't speed up the confirmation process.

I'm glad you're willing to use escrow, I just don't understand your logic.  What does sending you ~ $120 just to have you route it right back prove?  Is it just some sort of nominal good faith gesture you want?

664  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PSA: 'Bitcoins' in Ripple are not Bitcoins. They are not real, can be seized. on: May 20, 2013, 03:15:05 AM
Depends if you make them so.  That is up to the people making the connection.  Some people will only offer credit if the conditions for the offer are legally binding.  Others, will trust unscrupulous people with 100BTC for no reason at all.  And lots will happen in between.

How would you go about accomplishing this via the Ripple system?  How do I set the condition that any credit offered is legally binding?

Quote
It doesn't have to.  It can keep debt alive effectively forever.

Yes, you can keep it "alive" forever but will it be collectible?  That's all I care about.

Ripple does work. It might not work very well, but it does work.

I agree.  However, I'd like to see it work well.  I'm willing to wait and see but I'm still voicing my concerns.

Quote
I expect people to cooperate.  Ripple allows for cooperation on scales that have never been dreamed of before, without violence, or state force.  If people choose not to cooperate that is OK -- scammers will always exist, but their effects can be minimized via spreading risk out.

I thought like this at one time too.  The reality of Prosper brought me out of this fantasy.  You cannot spread out risk when risk cannot be effectively measured.  This all goes back to transparency, something Ripple lacks.  Yes, on a very small scale Ripple might work if you only trust your buddy or someone you know very well, I'm talking about Ripple on a much larger scale.  This is where I see the business model start to fall apart.
665  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PSA: 'Bitcoins' in Ripple are not Bitcoins. They are not real, can be seized. on: May 20, 2013, 01:43:32 AM
The gray area with Ripple "debt" is what troubles me most.  Debt is granted with the expectation of being repaid.  However, in the Ripple system I'm not even sure there is legal recourse you could take against someone if they were to default on you.  As I mentioned earlier, we're already dealing with unsecured debt, which already leaves the creditor with very little recourse but on top of that, these IOU's or whatever you want to call them, are they even legally binding?

Even in peer-to-peer lending, you had the ability to sick debt collectors on a defaulter, hurt their FICO score, etc.  This was done through the peer-to-peer medium (i.e. Prosper) and not done by the actual creditors.  Is Ripple going to play collection agency?  I don't think they will nor do I think they can, not in a decentralized exchange.  So again, everything falls back on a system that is predicated purely on trust.  And rather opaque trust at that.  I'd like to see a real world example where a PURE trust-based system has been successful on a grand scale.  It doesn't work.  People follow the rules because if you don't, there are consequences.  If you take away the consequences and expect everyone to play fairly, you're incredibly naive.
666  Economy / Economics / Re: Japan. The Yen. The Hyperinflation. on: May 18, 2013, 10:21:17 PM
The biggest problem for Japan is demographics.  They sell more adult diapers than baby.  They are faced with a mountain of debt and a declining workforce, I don't see a way out and neither does Kyle Bass.  If you haven't listened to his talk, it's worthwhile.
667  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it true that the Fed is privately owned on: May 18, 2013, 07:43:11 PM
The Fed is quasi-government at best.  The most accurate identification is the Fed is a cartel of banks.  The Fed does not fall under any of the 3 branches of government: judicial, legislative, or executive.  They do not receive funding appropriated by Congress but are subject to Congressional oversight (lol).  Federal Reserve Employees are not part of the US Civil Service System and are not covered by government employees’ health insurance or pension programs.

So to the OP, yes, you could very well view the Fed as being privately owned.
668  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyroll's 10 BTC giveaway is a scam, he sent me and others a phishing link on: May 18, 2013, 07:31:22 PM
The planet where people are innocent until proven guilty.
No-one appeared to had called him out on having not followed through on the excuse of having been hacked.
Since he didn't do what he suggested, we now do know about anyroll.

Trolls succeed only because people are lazy and don't consider the facts. Jumping to conclusions only helps you win a minority of times.

I received two PM's with the exact same phishing address HOURS after he had supposedly regained access and changed his password to something much more secure.
669  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Organic Kratom extract 100X caps for opiate receptor support on: May 18, 2013, 07:19:12 PM
This is 100X extract...unless you've used similarly strength kratom extracts before I would not recommend taking the 5 capsules at once. Some people do respond to higher doses however. The price isn't bad too bad considering this is to be taken as needed and if you happen to like the effects.

In full disclosure I've never even tried kratom and have just heard about it so I'm just trying to understand more, I hope it's not coming across as bashing your product.  There are so many different strains and fusions that it's difficult to make sense of it all.  From the articles I've read, it seems like it's used as an energy boost but without the crash of a high caffeine drink like coffee or redbull and in higher doses it may have a calming effect.  What is the number of capsules you would recommend for someone who hasn't tried kratom?  Have you used it in conjunction with phenibut?

It's a shame your testers haven't even posted their results yet.  If you do a second round of samples, I suggest you also take into account the join date of some of these hero members.  Post count isn't always indicative of reputable people on this board, some have been around for just a short time and have spammed the board with unproductive threads.

Use google authenticator.  Or better yet, stop using Gox.

These should be available for pre-order from BFL soon.
672  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Organic Kratom extract 100X caps for opiate receptor support on: May 17, 2013, 09:26:34 PM
Got my Kratom sample today and he included a bottle of his NeuroPEPT as a bonus! Thanks!

Directions said to swallow all 5 capsules, just did that 10 minutes ago. It also says effects will last 4 hours.

Will update everyone on how it goes  Grin

So the one pack of 5 capsules basically equates to 1 usage?  $15 per use seems really expensive or am I not understanding this correctly?

674  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 15, 2013, 01:49:02 AM
Bye bye Mt Gox and Dwolla, hello Coinbase!

BTW, is Coinbase any good?  Smiley

I haven't had any issues with them.  The only thing is it takes a long time to get your coins.

This post is to confirm that I have commissioned Ls777 to create a custom 1920x1080 wallpaper for me.  We have agreed on a timeframe of 3 weeks from today for the work to be finished (with up to an additional week (7 days) extension at Ls777's request).  Due to the recent voltaility in Bitcoin and the longer time horizon, we have agreed to a final price of $100 USD, however, final payment will be in Bitcoin at the equivalent exchange rate when payment is due.

Payment is due when Ls777 delivers to me (CurbsideProphet) a final draft and I feel the work is done and to my satisfaction.

In the event of a dispute between myself and Ls777, the Bitcoin community will be allowed to conduct the arbitration.  Arbitrators must have a minimum of 500 forum posts and have been a member for at least 12 months.  Arbitration will be open for 1 week (7 days) from the time the dispute is made public with each qualified arbitrator having 1 vote in the matter.

Terms agreed.  Smiley

Ls777 was unable to perform as agreed so the contract was mutually canceled.
676  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 14, 2013, 10:12:06 PM
I do not really care much about getting dollars from MtGox. But I mainly use MtGox to transfer my government currency to bitcoins. They have been the cheapest, 25 cents for Dwolla plus .5% at MtGox.

Has CoinBase gotten their act together to allow for larger purchases?

Transferring $1 out of MtGox to Dwolla to test this out btw.

The max limit is still 50BTC per day.  It used to be 100BTC before the price rise.
677  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying Ripples | 10,000 XRP per 1 BTC on: May 14, 2013, 10:01:04 PM
Maybe he didn't know. By looking at his previous transactions he didn't trade in ripple yet.

I have no idea how to use it I would love to trade out some ripple for btc right now, but can not figure out how to do it through the network. I will trade some ripple to the OP, but would like to know how the hell you are supposed to trade these things.

678  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Now that Dwolla is gone, what is the cheapest way in US to get $ in/out of MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 09:33:05 PM
This isn't the cheapest but I'll put it out there since it's fast.  Ally offers international wires for $20, that's the cheapest I've seen.

679  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 08:55:30 PM
I am actually uncomfortable with the way Dwolla is handling this. Why are they telling anybody who asks that the MtGox account has been frozen by court order? Isn't there some sort of client confidentiality? This seems to be just making MtGox look bad.

Because that's part of their TOS.  From the article:

Quote
"Dwolla requires a court order before honoring requests such as seizing funds or revoking access to an account,” he added.

They wouldn't have done it if they didn't receive a court order so either they tell you or you use common sense to put two and two together.  I don't see any breach of confidentiality.
680  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 14, 2013, 08:48:36 PM
Can a mod merge the two threads?   I have a feeling this is going to be a long discussion as word continues to filter out.

I wonder if this is why volume has been so low on Gox for a while now.  I wonder if the big money got tipped off and have been funneling out before this news hit?
