6621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The ugly side of Bitcoin on: July 02, 2019, 01:53:09 PM
You were right. Really benefits that Bitcoin brings also. However, from your point of view or those who work on the environment, that is a bad thing.
However, when Bitcoin is fully exploited, will it pollute the environment? Can anybody tell me this

First of all, I don't agree with this "Bitcoin mining pollutes the environment" BS. In case you are asking whether mining will continue after 2140 (when the last coins would be mined), then the answer is yes. The mining reward will consist solely of transaction fee. If my calculations are correct, then the transaction fee would represent more than 50% of the mining reward by around 2050.
6622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to safely store big amounts of BTC? on: July 02, 2019, 01:42:59 PM
I mostly recommend buying a hardware wallet and put it the safe place that only you can access it. Don't trust anybodies computer on accessing your hardware wallet. That's all i have done in the past 2 years of owning a hardware wallet. Nothing so suspicious occurs in the 2 years run of my hardware wallet.

I have also considered purchasing hardware wallets in the past. But I found them very basic and overpriced. The cost of creating a hardware wallet is not more than $10 apiece. And they are selling them for 10 times that price. On top of being expensive, having a hardware wallet also makes you vulnerable to any Bitcoin seizure by the government authorities.
6623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: July 02, 2019, 01:37:41 PM
I was expecting somewhere around 350-360, but once again Indian batsmen proved to be a disappointment during the final overs. Pant batted sensibly, but Dhoni and Karthik were not able to find the boundaries. I am still perplexed by the appearance of Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI. I don't understand what role he is going to play in this match.
6624  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to trade WITHOUT exchange? on: July 02, 2019, 12:53:56 PM
Since bitcoin is programmable, is it possible that many people just trade through command line under Linux? This way, we could avoid fees related to exchanges.

Bitcoin may be programmable. But fiat cash is not. So how can you trade Bitcoin for fiat, without any third party (i.e exchanges) or escrow? If you are so concerned about the trading fee, then you should try using DEX sites. I guess more than the trading fee (which can be as low as 0.1%), you are more concerned about the withdrawal fees.
6625  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When will Bitcoin bump into bottom again? on: July 02, 2019, 12:50:29 PM
I wasn't surprised by the recent dip, because I was expecting it. The prices moved from 9.5K to 13.8K too fast, and a correction was long due. 10K is a level upon which a lot of the users would consider profit booking. They held back last week, because the prices were rising so fast. But now we can expect a large sell off and the exchange rates may remain below 10K for at least a few weeks.
6626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: July 02, 2019, 12:47:21 PM
~snip~

Don't make things complicated, you can bet with your friends and other people whom you think can be trusted, of course don't risk a big amount here as sportsbook is more secured with bigger amount of money.

You are making things complicated here, not me. I had posted out of my own experience. I have seen fist-fights between close friends, because there was an argument over an informal bet. It is not about whether you trust someone or not. Why you want to do this informally, when it can be done through legal channels? I know that any chance of some argument arising is quite small. But it is a risk that I would never take.
6627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Cricket World Cup - Discussion & Analysis on: July 02, 2019, 12:43:53 PM
I hope India plays well today. There were talks that Virat may change one opener but since Vijay is out, I guess Rishab may be a choice and they also brought in Mayank Agarwal. Rahul may be pushed back to his earlier position.

Fortunately for India, the opening partnership clicked today. Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul batted well. The team management will be relieved to see a good performance from Rahul. After his century during the first match, his form was lackluster.  That said I don't know why they included Dinesh Kartik in the playing XI. A much better choice would have been Mayank Agarwal.

BTW, here are all the scenarios for the semi-final spot:

6628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: July 02, 2019, 12:38:44 PM
So now it is almost confirmed that Bangladesh is out of the world cup. The battle for the final semi-final spot is between two teams (England and Pakistan). Sri Lanka can no longer qualify, due to their poor NRR. Everything now depends on the England vs New Zealand match. Because as per the current form, Pakistan should be able to win their final match.
6629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bounty conditions in the future on: July 01, 2019, 03:20:08 AM
as we saw in 2017 where the price of Bitcoin and other altcoin increased, at that time bounty was also successful, because many bounty hunter get huge income in 2017, but in 2018 when Bitcoin prices down very much then at that time also many bounty failed and made bounty hunter difficult to get income, but now in 2019 the price of Bitcoin begins to recover and returns to growth (increases), but still many bounty fail and do not provide income to bounty hunter, then whether when the price of Bitcoin really rises very high and stable (it doesn't go down again), so bounty hunter will be able to start earning income again or even it is still difficult for bounty hunter to get income? (the price of Bitcoin doesn't affect for bounty), please give me your opinion.

Bounty payments are more dependent on the prevailing conditions within the ICO market and the Bitcoin exchange rates may only have a small impact on them. It is true that the Bitcoin exchange rates have risen by as much as 300% during the last three months. But most of the altcoins are down and the ICO market is showing hardly any signs of a major recovery. Until that happens, you can't expect the bounty campaigns to pay worthwhile rewards to the hunters.

I do not think he is betting on a sports book, as he said, he will be dealing with some friends. Maybe it is just Person-to-Person bet. It is just admirable that he is capable to save money, but alas, it's for gambling.

Betting with friends or outside sportsbook can help you save from the commission you have to pay.
Odds for both are somewhere from 1.86 to 1.90, but when you bet outside you'll sure get 2.00 odds since there's not heavy favorites now.
If you can find someone from your place who are betting against your bet it would be much better as like what you have said you don't need to pay for any commission and any transaction fees, those are the things that will covered if you are going to play against a friend or someone who's also residing in the same place where you are also staying in.

Betting outside a legalized platform can result in additional complexities. I am not talking about the tax liability here, as you can hide any potential gains as long as the dealing is done in physical cash. But you may need to spend additional fee in securing an escrow. If you don't use an escrow, then there is always the possibility of the losing side refusing to pay up. I am saying all this, because this has happened to me. I too used to make bets among my friend circle. But when they refuse to pay up, there is hardly anything that you can do.
6631  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin can less the unemployment rate? on: July 01, 2019, 02:04:00 AM
As of now, the number of employment opportunities created by the cryptocurrencies seems to be relatively low. A few people have been employed with the exchanges and wallet sites, and that constitutes for the limited number of jobs created by BTC. I wouldn't consider the traders, because for every successful trader, you may find another one who has lost money in trading. But in the near future, I hope that more employment opportunities will be created.
6632  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-27]Millions of investors can't sell their bitcoins on: July 01, 2019, 01:59:59 AM
They are referring to Blockchain.com? Then I don't think that this news is accurate. I have been using Blockchain.com wallet for more than 3 years, and I have transferred as low as BTC0.001 using this wallet. I never faced any problem with the minimum threshold. May be they are talking about some other online Bitcoin wallet provider.
6633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why I am so frustrated with bitcoin on: July 01, 2019, 01:53:46 AM
ROFLMAO... It feels so good to see these sort of rantings from the altcoin users. Back in 2017, a lot of Bitcoin users were in pain as well, after witnessing the Bitcoin dominance going down from 80% to 33%. A large number of worthless shitcoins were suddenly propping up with multi-billion market caps. I just hope that these shitcoins will die out. They bring bad name to Bitcoin, as they don't have any specific purpose.
6634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The ugly side of Bitcoin on: July 01, 2019, 01:50:04 AM
We all know how beneficial it is for us to have a currency like Bitcoin , something that we can use without any interference and without any middle man, but there is always a problem with things that we usually unsee because of the huge benefits it earns to us and this time it's environmental pollution.
Bitcoin as we know it requires mining to continue it's supply , but the thing is mining consumes Tons of energy and thus makes it harder for us to cope up with the stress it is putting up on the environment.
Pollution, global warming  Bitcoin is causing all this , one might argue that it won't be necessary after a while but what about right now ? It's hurting the environment and we have no stable solution for this.
Shouldn't we focus on this too ? Rather than other things ?

As per the latest stats, Bitcoin mining consumes as much as 1% of all the electricity available in this planet. I don't think that this is a very significant amount. A lot of electricity is consumed and toxins released during the mining of gold and silver, two metals that are used for making bullion coins. No one seems to be having an issue. You can't say that one thing is good and another is bad, if they are very similar.
6635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be legally accepted in every country in the next 10 years? on: July 01, 2019, 01:47:56 AM
Bitcoin has gone mainstream for the past few years. There is no reason why we cannot see Bitcoin transactions all over the world in the next decade. And with the advent of famous and huge companies even facebook getting into the crypto sphere, it is going to be unstoppable. Actually, a good number of countries are already aware of Bitcoin, some of them have already issued regulations on its use.

This is one of the reasons why I believe that the entry of Libracoin can be a boon for Bitcoin. Mark Zuckerberg has essentially stolen the idea from Satoshi Nakamoto and created his own version of cryptocurrency. The governments are definitely not going to ban Libra. And now they can't ban Bitcoin because that would be like giving unfair advantage to its competitors.
6636  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to keep your funds secured? on: July 01, 2019, 01:43:16 AM
Im quite new to crypto so i wanted to know what exchanges do you use and i'd be grateful for advises on security. I currently keep my crypto on localbitcoins but it recently got hacked to im concerned for my money. I want to move it somewhere safe but still be able to make trades without much fuss. Im still learning to trade but im pretty serious about it. Can you recommend me a good exchange that hasn't been hacked yet?

Keeping your coins in exchanges is the worst thing to do. You never know when these exchanges go down. It has occurred quite frequently, starting with Mt Gox in 2014, to the recent hacks of Bitfinex and Cryptopia. Why do you want to keep your coins in exchanges, when free online wallets such as Blockchain.com are available? If you don't mind spending $100, then you can go for a hardware wallet as well.
6637  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can I still get wealthy through Bitcoin? on: July 01, 2019, 01:40:47 AM
My answer is no. Bitcoin is not a magic wand that can make you a millionaire overnight. If that was the case, then all the 100 million Bitcoin users will become super-rich and the planet would be full of such people. Bitcoin is just a medium. If you want to become rich, then you need to work for that. As a medium, Bitcoin can help you in achieving that.
6638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: July 01, 2019, 01:38:38 AM
Sad to see India lose their first ever WC match but all I see on Twitter is hate for Dhoni. I also agree that they were taking too many singles but it's not only Dhoni's fault. Why can't it be that the England bowlers performed better that Dhoni couldn't manage the runs? Also, if he would get out, still he would be blamed.

And this max fixing thing is really illogical. Why should they lose purposely to not play with Pak in semis? Please don't make this thread an India-Pak discussion and rather focus on the game.

For how long you are going to defend this guy?

When Dhoni came to the crease, the required run rate was somewhere around 8 runs per over, and it was very much possible for India to win the match. But he failed to score even at a rate of one run per ball. Only when the required run rate got out of hand and got to 12-13 runs per over, he started hitting all those sixes and fours.

You may get odds above 2.00 for either Thurman or Pacquiao, but not for both. In case any betting site offers that, then they'll incur losses irrespective of the results. As per my understanding, most of the sites are still considering Thurman as the favorite to win this fight. So it will be difficult for you to get odds above 2.00 for Thurman.
6640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Cricket World Cup - Discussion & Analysis on: July 01, 2019, 01:32:19 AM
So, it's early finalization of the 4 teams competing in the semi finals. No doubt the four teams were spectacular and deserved the position according to the game they played and entertainment they provided. England surely is a better team than Bangladesh or Pakistan. I'd  love to see how the Semi finals goes.

England needs to win their final match against New Zealand. If they fail to do that, then a chance opens for either Pakistan or Bangladesh. Sri Lanka seems to be out of contention. Even if they win both their matches, they will finish behind England due to their poor NRR (in case England losses to NZ). Tomorrow's match is going to be crucial for Bangladesh. They need to win against India.
