6641  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius Coin 1BTC on: June 17, 2021, 06:22:14 AM
What would the the average price be for this coin in BTC?

Such a coin is a collectible. And the people from Collectibles subforum can answer best to this answer or point you to the right direction.
And since many of them don't have other interests in this forum, best is to ask there (either move this topic there, either ask again)

Is it worth putting it into a crypto exchange and earn interest on that, or should I keep it closed?

Any proper bitcoiner will tell you that it's not worth to move coins from your wallet to the custody of somebody else, no matter how reputed that somebody else is. Shortly "not your keys, not your coins".
Bitcoin, on the average, has a very good increase in price over time, so seeking extra earnings has more risks than benefits.
In your case, since it's a collectible, also peeling off the seal for the coin should decrease its value by a great deal.

But again, I am not a specialist in this, go to the collectibles section and ask there, it's the best approach: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0
6642  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Crypto in Romania, adoptare si impozitare - care este varianta ta ideala ? on: June 17, 2021, 04:52:50 AM
Nu cred ca e prost Isarescu, doar e acolo de sute de ani. (nu sunt vreun fan al lui, desi trebuie sa recunosc ca face un vin bun)
Cred doar ca este ultra conservator. E si bine si rau in acelasi timp.

6643  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 16, 2021, 08:31:50 PM
It has just occurred to me: was there any discussion on how much CO2 was and will be created in vain just because Baku hosts Euro games?

And more on topic: indeed, Turkey performance was weak. Much weaker than I would have thought. In the first game I thought it was an exception/bad luck (and yeah, Italy), but today... it was sad...
6644  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum 4.1.3 released on: June 16, 2021, 08:24:01 PM
New Electrum was released. Bug fixes and reproducible builds for Android seem to be the only news.

It may worth also mentioning that SomberNight has started using a new GPG key:

6645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be the biggest bubble economy in history? on: June 16, 2021, 12:03:52 PM
What do you think, do you think Bitcoin will become the biggest bubble economy in history?

Bitcoin rise is made of smaller and bigger bubbles. Some are indeed B I G. Still... I'd say that most probably it won't "become the biggest bubble economy in history" because:

1. Bitcoin is not a bubble per se, it should "settle" sooner or later to much smaller price fluctuations, hence also smaller growth.

2. In human history things tend to "evolve", whether they're good or bad. So I expect that sometime in the future something even bigger will come to reality.
6646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances of entering the cryptocurrency market with such a coin? on: June 16, 2021, 10:55:56 AM
I guess we are talking here about Ponzi shame with sale restrictions. Simply example - if you bought at 10$ you are not allowed to sell lower than 15$. Such asset cant go down. It just can stop grow and left people will unsalable bags - effectively worth 0 but on chart worth xx$.

Owww... in this light it all makes more sense.
Well, a Ponzi is a scam, no matter how it's wrapped and how it's called. And I was expecting a proper legit business...
And yeah, such rules, while ensure the coin is (one paper) never falling, they also makes it just another scam.
6647  Economy / Economics / Re: Amateur Traders Cause Bubbles on: June 16, 2021, 06:44:46 AM
But you can sell when the price is rising, does that go against the trend? Being with the trend means doing what others are doing, meaning buying when everyone is buying. Am I missing your thought here?

Indeed, the trend means buying when everybody is buying. And when everybody is buying the price is going upwards.
Imho, if one sells when the price is rising, it means that he sells when the others are buying, so imho it's against the trend.

This would denote that the seller is either not really newbie and had a plan to sell after a certain profit, either knows how to read the news and TA and expects a reversal - i.e. again not a newbie.
6648  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Michael saylor and his bags on: June 16, 2021, 06:23:10 AM
How to know when has he entered in the buying spree by looking at the price movements or charts?

Imho you can't.
Such buys are probably made by 3rd party specialized companies or actual exchanges.
The buys are spread to different times, values and maybe exchanges too, so you won't notice anything different than a dozen of traders buying now and then.
6649  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: I pay $20 for 2 BTC testnet on: June 15, 2021, 11:48:06 AM
I am looking for 2 Bitcoins on the test network (bitcoin that has no monetary value)

I can pay you with PayPal or cryptocurrency.

From what I've read it was costing in January about 0.001 BTC to mine 1 tBTC. That's some 40$.
So I guess that a win-win situation could be that you ask for a tBTC loan here and send the proper amount of BTC to an escrow or the lender.
Although that amount will be more than 20$, you'll receive it back (excepting the tx fees) when you finished your tests and send the tBTC back to the lender.
6650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances of entering the cryptocurrency market with such a coin? on: June 15, 2021, 10:51:15 AM
Centralized - minimal fees.

Centralized means that people have to take your word for it. It means that you have to prove that you own enough assets to back your coins and it means that there may always exist a doubt that you issue more coins than you declare, or do something odd behind the scenes. Centralization can too easily cover a scam and it won't be easy to get to the amount of trust you need to have such a coin successfully.
6651  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Can a poor man get his chance to be rich in Crypto? on: June 15, 2021, 10:31:21 AM
I have some struggling friends who I like to help but they have this life where their salary is only enough to feed themselves for the day and they can barely save $100 for other things. Let's be real, will he be able to get the life he wants with crypto? I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Most probably not, unfortunately.
The first rule is to keep invested only money you afford to lose. They don't have such money and this means that they will most probably cash in if the coin had a short bull run, or cash in desperately when the coin is falling, or cash in just because they ran out of fiat. I don't see any winning situation in this equation, i.e. a situation your friends would get to HODL for a relevant period of time, enough time for the (probably few) coins they've bought to grow so much to make them rich.
6652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances of entering the cryptocurrency market with such a coin? on: June 15, 2021, 10:23:02 AM
No manipulation or fraud.

Sorry, I don't see then how it could never fall. It will always have its moments the price will fall against something.

If you can mathematically prove that this can work, if everything is transparent and decentralized, the only remaining open point is trust - you have to prove that the network is strong enough and you / your business model can work. It may take a lot of time...
Unfortunately I remain skeptic: I don't think that this is possible in real life.
6653  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live 2.29.0 - Windows Users on: June 15, 2021, 10:16:06 AM
Indeed, a new version. Since I use Ledger Live seldom, only for firmware updates now and then, I didn't see this. Thanks for posting.
And this is the official announcement in LL, it may be of help. Don't forget: ledger.com

6654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances of entering the cryptocurrency market with such a coin? on: June 15, 2021, 10:08:23 AM
2. Never falls in price.

Unless the market is manipulated, this cannot actually happen.

The question arises: what obstacles and difficulties will such coins have?

Unfortunately the main obstacle is that reality is harsher than the dreams.
6655  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does on-line compete with the VIP experience on: June 15, 2021, 09:51:17 AM
But I'd say that a lot of whales would rather keep a low profile these days as opposed to being courted overtly, which makes VIP treatment arguably not as important as people may think.

This would be my take too. One can have all he wants in the comfort of his house and also privacy. I expect a regular player will prefer that.

Of course, some want to be seen by the crowd, some want a certain visible status; but those are most probably not regulars.
6656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Lightning Network Solve ALL Scalability Issues? on: June 15, 2021, 09:21:54 AM
Will the lightning network be game over for the rest of the ALT coins that are borderline built on scalability?

Many altcoins are kinda useless anyway. However, I don't expect LN have a crucial effect on them.

And LN is not a perfect solution. It's a step forward, but it will have its opponents and its problems too. Even the fact that it stays that long labelled as "beta" is a bit worrying.
Many won't understand that it is normal that it needs coins locked and on-chain transaction for finalize everything (I don't know how to say it better), many won't understand why it doesn't work just like that from <insert-wallet-name-here>, many (will) cry that it creates centralization and basically works only with custodian wallets.

All in all, many will prefer altcoins, even centralized altcoins, that do the same job. And if some of those altcoins will work seamlessly for payments at merchants, maybe also allowing some sort of atomic swap with Bitcoin, they could easily become a strong competitor for LN.
6657  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you know when to sell? on: June 15, 2021, 09:04:22 AM
when is the best time to sell

Imho you cannot pinpoint the best time to sell unless it have already passed.
So you have to have a plan and stick to it. Sell 10% at price X, sell other 20% at price Y, buy more if it falls under Z.
Greed may or may not help you, it may make you rich or may make you bagholder, depending on the coin.
And if possible, diversify to minimize the risk (this usually also means to keep 50%+ in BTC)

Of course, you have to make your own decisions, don't follow blindly any advice. Your money, your decisions, your responsibility.
6658  Economy / Economics / Re: Amateur Traders Cause Bubbles on: June 15, 2021, 08:57:43 AM
But to the contrary I think they can set a new trend. As you mentioned that that are subject to FUD and that means they can trade in panic, so if it happens the fear a spike and starts trading with the spike, that can change direction of price and at same time , a fundamental can hit the spike to happen, it is possible to totally change price direction. You already know that fundamental or news can be a reason to see huge spikes. Spikes that happens in a longtime hour like week or in the monthly candle is possible that trend will change to the direction of amateur.

Even newbie trader wannabes know that "the trend is your friend" and it's counterproductive to piss against the wind.
So FUD and panic will not make them sell if the price is growing, for example. Just my 2 satoshi... but yeah, no worries, I don't expect everybody agree with me  Wink
6659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Impact of Basel 3 on Bitcoin on: June 15, 2021, 07:55:04 AM
Seems like this increases the attractiveness of physical gold relative to bitcoin as a reserve asset, particularly for institutions.

I'm not familiar with this, but I think that you're correct.

How much of an impact do you think this will this have for institutional interest in Bitcoin going forward?

No impact at all. This will impact only those who use certain reserve assets only because they're required by the law.
Bitcoin is for those more open minded and with appetite for a bit of risk too, who want a reserve asset they can have gains from and can easily HODL.

Banks' interest towards Bitcoin was only to get/keep their customers, they will keep using gold as reserve asset.
Corporations on the other hand, will be diversified in basically everything, from gold to stocks and from bonds to Bitcoin. They afford a certain degree of risk and their "expansion" in the crypto markets won't be hindered by re-classification of (the same old) gold.
6660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the most optimistic result of Bitcoin? on: June 15, 2021, 07:31:29 AM
I think the most optimistic outcome for Bitcoin would be to return to its roots, which is to play to the nature of bitcoin as a currency

Whatever you imagine bitcoin's "return to the roots", it can't "become a currency"* just like that for political and technical reasons:
- central banks and governments will not simply make way for the decentralized newcomer
- on-chain transactions are not suitable for payments at the grocery store

So in order to "become a currency"* Bitcoin has to actually evolve, which is imho the opposite of returning to the roots.
And we'll be getting there too. The SegWit changes were for that reason. LN is also for that and it started to be used more and more.

* Bitcoin is already a currency. For many years already. You can buy a lot of goods and services with it. It's indeed not "perfect" yet for average Joe, who doesn't understand network fees, mempool, block time and such, hence my reply.
