6641  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any model or programming method for forecasting? on: June 06, 2018, 04:04:11 AM
Honestly, in all the years I've been into crypto I've tried many models to predict what is going on with crypto and how to know what is going to happen. Sadly, I found none, given the inner volatility of the crypto world.
Of course, you can analyse the market but only short-term.

But that is just my experience. If you find a way, I will welcome the insight
6642  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Poloniex liable? on: June 06, 2018, 03:54:58 AM
I still wonder... If they keep a lot of user's money, where is all this money going? Are they just to keep all the money of all those users whose accounts have been kidnaped? How much money does it imply>?
6643  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Poloniex (new face-image requirements) on: June 06, 2018, 03:52:34 AM
This is the height of it all that Poloniex is implementing but nothing can be done because as we are here complaining of this amount of absurdity, other are already scanning their faces, fingers for them having covered by the veil of profit making and deceive to believe that since I have nothing to hide, there is nothing to be secretive about. Poloniex knows this and that is why they will.continue pushing and claim they are doing it for the security of users. The best way is just to avoid such sites and focus on other who can accommodate the amount of information I'm willing to share.

I just couldn't say it better, mate.
That's the true issue. To have nothing to hide doesn't mean we need to share everything. If every user has said NO  to the new poloniex policies (including the money kidnap) maybe they will stop and reconsider. but, as long as users allow this...
6644  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for posts ended... on: June 06, 2018, 03:43:37 AM
Man, I feel you. Maybe I have never been searching for earning some merits, to be honest, but I spend a lot of time in here and let me tell you, sometimes you just can't find anything of value.
Just take a breath. This is a difficult place. Every day I try to find a useful and meaningful post that, at least, can make me think or have a nice insight. But each day it is getting more and more difficult.
What has absolutely worked for me is just to stay away a couple of days, for anytime I come back I find something of interest. maybe this is time for you to chill out and just read for a while, or stay away, whatever.
6645  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A simple question about wallets. on: June 05, 2018, 02:08:31 AM
Much of crypto currency was done by dedicated visionaries, often without a goal of personal gain.

This is true of bitcoin. To the benefit of the world.

But what's with all the wallets? There are hundreds of wallets of various sorts, and with the exception of hardware wallets that are bought, they are all free.

What do the developers get? Why are wallets free?

Consider normal, "typical" android and IOS development. People download "free" apps. Then the developers and marketers steal your data and sell it. It's all about your data. And we all know that.

But what model of development are wallet developers following? That of dedicated shareware developers with no profit in mind? That of the current generation of "steal your private data and give you the app for free?"

What am I missing.

Well... you are missing the Open Source part. Those developers who make the code just as you say
Quote
without a goal of personal gain.

But let me explain how this thing work, if you see the soul of bitcoin you will understand why there are lot of wallets. When bitcoin born it wasn't a coin, it was a white paper and a piece of code called bitcoin core. The white paper explain how it works and the code does the magic (even you can see the download link from the core on the top of this sit.), now the network run the core version 0.16.0 and the question here is; what can i do with the core? or with that program called bitcoin? The answer is data manipulation. Bitcoin core have a lot of tools to obtain network data, and others to manage transaction.  If you take a look to this site, you will understand better the options you have https://github.com/ChristopherA/Learning-Bitcoin-from-the-Command-Line/blob/master/bitcoin-cli-commands-help.md

I will not give you a full lesson about bitcoin, but what you have to learn is that bitcoin works in a network, so if you run that network as a server, you can let other people run commands from bitcoin core, and that's how wallets work, is just a server in which you can install the bitcoin core and make a nice user interface to let the users manipulate their coins. some wallets give you limited access, other ones give you better access, but if you want to have a full access and build your own transactions by using commands you will need to install bitcoin core, at end that's the only way to guarantee no one will have access to your coins.
6646  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Poloniex (new face-image requirements) on: June 05, 2018, 01:57:14 AM

exactly , I am actually one of those who doesnt even received the notification. Gladly I lost not that big amount probably around $20 in value. Maybe they did it so that the other traders will not have a choice but to provide the information since they can't withdraw their amount. I suggest people to just leave because for me what they have done is unethical and if they have done it once they can do it again and again

Yes, and also, your $20 plus the other people's $20 can make a significant kidnaped amount!!! So where is all this money going? Are they just keeping it if you don't accept the new policies? How can it be any legal?
I think all users with some money need to ask for their funds to be returned. I just can't understand how a big company as poloniex can broke the rules nicely and keep what probably is a big number of other's money.
6647  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Exchangers and new regulations. on: June 05, 2018, 01:48:56 AM

So in the future may come where you will need to verify your self to use an exchange. Sort of like fiat money. Then bitcoin will be like fiat money with added fast features. More of like upgraded paypal?

That's my concern too.
Besides, the "kidnap" has not been resolved yet. I don't know if it is legal to change your policies and make the users unable to say "Ey, I don't agree, so I prefer to withdraw my funds and leave the service". Nop. They restrict your funds' access as long as you don't give them the information they seek due to their change, but it is even legal? When I agree with a service term and then they change them, I am supposed to agree again, don't I? Even if I have some funds on my Paypal account I should be able to withdraw them if they change their policies...
Sad. This is sad.
6648  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Poloniex liable? on: June 04, 2018, 06:03:13 PM

You must agree to their terms of service which states you waive the right to sue them in order to access your funds and withdraw. It also states that you also agree to waive your rights if you try to use their ticket support system as well which as far as I know is the only other way to remove funds.

So to all you lawyers out there is this Extortion or not?

I was discussing the same last week, precisely because I find it to be a new way of extortion. If they change their policies, then you should be able to say "I don't agree" and remove all your funds. If not, it definitely seems an extortion to me.
They are asking even for a personal photo of your face. This is against many policies, but, still, they require this new information, along with all the commonly asked one.
So if you do not agree with that, then they will kidnap your fund 'till you give them the information required. This is extortion, kidnapping and it must be illegal.

Besides, giving such kind of private data can be dangerous, for they haven't even spoken about their last hacking attempt: https://themerkle.com/poloniex-users-suffering-from-frozen-accounts-suspended-withdrawals-and-disabled-markets/

Have the data been stolen?
Do the hackers have all the personal information of their users now, including how they look?

I've asked some lawyers friends and they all answered me the same: if you agree with a site's policies and then they change, you should be allowed to stop any relation (commercial, etc) with them, as well as they are obligated to erase all the data they have from you by sending a copy first. Of course, the law system depends on the country they are, but it should work this way, since Poloniex is now under the US regulations.
6649  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do to increase bitcointalk rankings on: June 04, 2018, 05:26:13 PM
Some basics steps to rank-up:
- First of all: stop posting shits like this one:
Do you think the communists have human rights and why? Huh Huh

Or this:
If you are in a communist country, you will feel sad because of the great money, Vietnam is a typical example

or:
I really sympathize with what you are experiencing. I'm also really hard with it because there are so many things that are not clear in the reward

Maybe stop writing like this as well:

All is just a game of sharks to get all bitcoin of us

or...
great i will greed with you. wish success

(Even when I liked the part of "greeding with someone", LOL).

The list can follow and follow, for it seems to be your common behavior.

- Second step: stop posting about ranking, for it has been answered many times. So: search before posting another junk and useless post.

6651  Other / Meta / Re: Disable sign. camp. officially to prevent spam & know true value of merit system on: June 04, 2018, 04:55:40 PM

Currently they have chance to participate sing. camp. so for reward they start make spamming even they don't know proper English. Even though some reputed managers didn't allowed them for sign. camp. But I think it's not enough to prevent spam.

So I believe that if sign camp. disable officially from forum only for Jr. Members, it will help prevent spam permanently.

Mate just take a look at your English skills before writing such kind of stuff.
You have some posts like this one:
Every one explaining me there is specifics time as per rank. This reply for you and I make it big. Because i already mention I didn't make any post recently. But you can't see. I know that there is time span between each post. But I didn't make any post/report  during 8 hours. After 8 hours a was attempting to report a post to moderator. That time I have face this problem. Not only today. Also yesterday. That's why I make post.

So, is clear you don't even get the rules in here (this kind of oversized texts are not well seen in here for it feels like if someone is screaming to you...)...

I think if you install Grammarly you can improve the way you write, maybe even you will understand the difference between "message" and "massage".

Regarding the proposal, I can't even fully understand what you mean by that: So I believe that if sign camp. disable officially from forum only for Jr. Members, it will help prevent spam permanently.
Do you mean the forum need to implement only Jr. Members as signature managers?
Or do you try to mean that Signature Managers should not allow Jr. Members to join a signature campaign?

So, you say the forum needs better posters?  WTF, man. Maybe you should start with yourself...

EDIT (a month later) This user has improved a lot since he wrote this post. I'm glad to see that one shitposter can become a good new user on the forum by helping others and creating good content. Congrats Smiley
I still don't agree with this post and also I don't understand why it has come back again to life, but whatever.
6652  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why people don't vote? on: June 04, 2018, 03:59:18 PM
Ummm...
There are some many countries where democracy is just a circus. I can absolutely understand why people do not believe in democracy anymore and prefer to stay home instead of going to vote for someone they don't believe in.
Platon wrote "Democracy is the tyranny of the ignorant people", for he thought you can make people stupid enough so they vote for the worst candidates, and this is kind of true...
Anyway, look at the world. The common feeling I see in the people is dejection. Humanity is losing the hope in the future, for the present is chaotic and unfair. Maybe is just that: people can't see the point of going to vote anymore, for everything is a big circus and they have the feeling they can do nothing about.
Maybe they are right, perhaps they are wrong. I just understand the feeling.
6653  Other / Meta / Re: A description of the Bitcoin Talk merit system on: June 04, 2018, 03:50:04 PM

btw - has anyone noticed any factual errors?

Yep, I found one incomplete word in here: "These credits are rather special, as they are replaced 30 days after they have been awarded, and the replcement is added to his pouch."

Maybe you can make just two separates topics, one to describe just the merit system and another one to fully describe the coins and ranks.
6654  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When do we get negative trust scores on: June 04, 2018, 03:33:06 PM
Trust score is a decentralized and no-moderated system used for many users to alert others to one profile. For instance, you can get negative trust if you:
- Spam the forum by making useless topics again and again.
- Farm an account, or give merits to an alt. Some people find easy to make two accounts and give merit from one to another, but they eventually are going to get red trust.
- If you make transactions (money or crypto) and steal the people.
- If you encourage others to do so.
- If you use links to a phishing site or try to hack anyone...
- insulting, making some fake accusations to others...
- Using bots to post...
- PLagiarism can give you some red trust. Copy-pasting is not allowed in the forum, etc.
So, in sort, you will receive red trust (negative) if you spam, hack or do some harm to anyone or the forum itself. If you behave as a normal person, then you probably stay neutral.
The trust is given to you by other users, so it is no controlled by moderators in any way. So be careful and just use the common sense.
6655  Other / Meta / Re: Merit System: the true value behind it on: June 04, 2018, 03:12:51 PM

- People with short-term profits in mind will be turned away due to long progression to higher ranks.

That's (sadly) not true, for the bounties accept newbies and even brand new. Maybe you're talking about signature campaigns and the avatar option in personal profiles.
Take a look at all the bounties accepting newbies and the posting activity they usually have as a result.

6656  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Idea on: June 04, 2018, 03:07:15 PM

IDEA: Just like what I've said a while ago there are some peoples who're holding their merits and the result some of the participants who're really qualified but didn't get any merit. So what if the user who has a sMerit shares a merit and in exchange he/she will receive a 0.5 Merit for each Merits he sent or 0.5 Merit for each sent no matter how many sMerit he/she is going to share, In this way people will be forced to find a constructive poster and will not going to hold back their sMerits.

Just like what I've said this is just an Idea, I want to hear your thoughts. Thank you Everyone.

It will become a farmer party if the forum decides to introduce that.
Nop, this is far from being a solution, I'm afraid. Sadly, there are many users on the forum farming accounts, so it will make their lives far easier. The merit system can be unperfect, but, still, there is a number of users concern about spreading their smerit in good new posters. Your idea does not give a solution for the real problem here: there are too many spammers, useless posters and it is difficult to find out some good newbie that deserve merit for him/her posting activity.
A good idea regarding the merit system should involve that mean problem. And, yet, I can't think about a solution to that.
6657  Other / Meta / Re: A description of the Bitcoin Talk merit system on: June 04, 2018, 02:57:50 PM
Maybe using words as "wallet" and "credits"   can be tricky, for many newbies already believe that the merit system is a kind of money, so they can just buy them. The reference to the "medals", can be misunderstood by newbies, as well.
Maybe this is easy to talk about how the merit system works if there is only explained the merits, instead of the merits and the medals. I think the part we need to highlight the more is related to how to earn merits, how the system works on the social plane, meaning how a post can become a merit receiver.
The medal and credit part can be confusing, for it gives the idea of seniors members sending some kind of money to others.
But that's just my opinion, trying to be in a newbie's shoes here.
6658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency Academic and Reserch Papers. Any recommendation. on: June 01, 2018, 05:22:16 PM
Is there any specific academic research papers or conference proceedings on any cryptocurrency you can recommend for me. I know there are lot of books on it but I want an academic paper.

There are some academical websites where you can find papers about bitcoin:
- Jstor.org. In there, you will find a good number of academical paper, but the problem is you will need to join towards an institution if you don't want to pay.
- Research Gate. This is like an academic-social media in which many academics and researchers upload their current work. You will find in there some good researchers about bitcoin going on, as well as some (and free) articles: https://www.researchgate.net/topic/Bitcoin
- Academia. edu. The same like Research Gate: this is a social-academic-media place with thousands of papers with free-download available. http://www.academia.edu/Documents/in/Bitcoin
- Cabra, another place with some good papers about bitcoin (i think this is fully dedicated to the crypto world, but I haven't look into it seriously yet): https://cdecker.github.io/btcresearch/

I hope it helps.

>_<

It was nice to read your blog, for I was feeling the same. It is curious we have taken the same path today (I wasn't seeking for a post to reward, but for a post to answer or learn from) and came to the same conclusion. In my case, the results have been: 2 reported post, 5 answered, 20 reads and, in conclusion, nothing new on the table, for, in general, the topics I've read are:
- Politics and society: nothing of interest. I can't expend my time reading a topic about meditation of the point of life.
- Meta board: newcomers asking about to change the whole system, so they can rank-up quickly and with no effort.
- Beginners: once more, it should be rebaptized as "begginers".
- Bitcoin discussion: the "BTCvsETH" daily post, along with the traditional "BTC in the future?", or, "BTc and Gold?"  "blablablas".

So, yes, I feel your pain, man.

6660  Other / Meta / Re: Top 30 Merit givers per board - Interactive Tool to spot possible Merit Sources on: June 01, 2018, 04:43:48 PM
OP, I'm trying to find myself on the Spanish Boards and have not been able to. I've awarded over 15 in all there and in the subsections I see users with 1Tx onwards therefore I should be able to see myself there shouldn't I?

I've neither been able to find you, even when I appear when I'm not so active in our local.
Maybe some stats are wrong.

Crystal clear, JC needed to become a merit source, he's active in many boards and active in the giving-away activity. But, still, some of the data seems to be missing.
