6661  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Important Lighting Network reading- for everyone! on: January 30, 2018, 09:41:49 PM
I think it’s important that everyone who supports bitcoin be on the same page about how the Lightning Network works and why bitcoin’s future is still as bright as ever. This short read was written up by a buddy in a slack channel and I thought it was important to pass along. It’s easy reading for anyone! 10 minutes of your time and if you’re not fully educated on the Lighting Network basics..you will be!

6662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest in the USD (or any other fiat currency ?) on: January 30, 2018, 09:31:08 PM
Newbie OP..what sort of education do you have under your belt to make such claims ? This is absolutely false and a waste of everyone’s times. As a licensed financial guy I can assure anyone this is not true. Fiat currency is traded daily in the markets, if it was only going down than no one would invest in it. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
6663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest now - should or not? on: January 30, 2018, 09:03:48 PM
To OP- you need to do your own homework. The problem is there are far too many uneducated people here spewing misinformation left and right. Unfortunately even plenty of Hero and Legendary members here are clueless, not to mention the issues with those high ranking accounts having been sold to any random Joe.

Here is a great website to get you started -> http://thebitcoinpage.com

Also highly recommend reading the book-  Mastering Bitcoin
6664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you want to Buy with Bitcoin? on: January 30, 2018, 08:58:36 PM
I buy Bitcoin for a multitude of reasons, but mainly boils down to two things. First I buy it as a speculative asset that is also turning in to a sort of heading asset as well. The second main reason I buy bitcoin is to be able to use it as a currency for anything and everything. I do realize there are currently long wait times for TX confirmations as well as high fees, but I do have faith in the Lighting Network.

Here’s some great info on how LN will help Bitcoin with its current issues->   https://medium.com/@melik_87377/lightning-network-enables-unicast-transactions-in-bitcoin-lightning-is-bitcoins-tcp-ip-stack-8ec1d42c14f5

You are soooo lucky. It'd love to have that one.
It's like, Satori coins being 10 times the answer to life, universe and basically pretty much everything.

Are you up for trades ?
I can send you a printed picture of a cat eating an ice cream cone along with a Satori roll in exchange for the #420 one. ;-)

6671  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Infinitum Coin toning or on purpose ? on: January 29, 2018, 12:01:02 AM
Sky- good question,  I don’t know.

#23- to be honest I thought that the dates on that coin were to just be “coy”. I didn’t realize this company had been around that long and offering these coins. That makes me wonder why I’ve never seen them advertise on here and why they’ve only sold as many of those coins as they have. Especially the coin now that’s in line with their ICO.

Well normally, if they are dated 2015
they are either made in 2015 or 2014
It would be stupid to make back year coins unless they have a reason to do so

The verdict from Infinitum - “The blue/black tint is from the ageing process called platina it's different on each coin. It's perfectly natural ageing of the coin”.

Interesting response as I haven't seen many "new" coins that have patina. Did they mention how they were storing their older stock and if any others had aging signs?

No they didn’t but I think I’ll reply and ask. Good points. I have kept all my coins in climate controlled environments and I don’t think I’ve had one tone on me yet.

Am very intrigued about this climate controlled environment for coins Tongue

Haha what do you mean..you talking shit sky?!  Cheesy I keep my coins where they’re not exposed to the elements (extreme heat and cold).  I’m talking about brand new coins I’ve bought. Started collecting about 5 years ago or so..no toning yet.

6676  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Weekend Sale Bitcoin Coldcoin Spy coins on: January 27, 2018, 04:44:36 AM
I purchased one from viz a little while back. It's an exceptional coin and I like the hidden storage feature. For anyone that wants long-term microSD storage using a coin like this, I recommend Swissbit: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/swissbit/SFSD0512N1BM1TO-I-ME-221-STD/1052-1202-ND/5762188

These are basically military-grade microSD cards that should hold information for at least 10 years. Most USB / microSD flash drives will degrade and not retain their memory for anywhere near that length of time.

Nice info, I'll need to get me one of those special cards for long term storage.  I'd have to imagine there are better prices though, $20/512mb?

Agreed, they are impressive and actually work when fitting together/opening with the tool which I didn't expect.

They were sold on ebay and I believe through a website that was built for the coins.

I believe the website was coldco.in if I recall.  These are pretty rare.

That's accurate, just confirmed the address via an old bookmark I had.   Smiley

I visited that website quite a few times over the course of a 6 month period (before finding Bitcointalk) in hopes it would come back online  Cheesy. I agree this coin is a must have for any collector.
6677  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Making Physical CryptoCurrency Coins on: January 27, 2018, 03:58:45 AM
There are always going to be coin artists welcome and it’s never too late!

I think most would like to see pure silver (as long as it’s reasonably priced). However gold coins have sold well if they’re reasonably priced/unique. I’d personally love to see a platinum coin one day!  If the coin is unique, has the ability to be loaded/DIY, perhaps inscribed mintage on coin etc..non-precious metal can be cool! But pure silver is most desirable.

A BTC coin is always going to be my favorite, but also really want to see an IOTA coin made. I’d also like to see an ADA, VIA and perhaps a garliccoin (as is sure to be mentioned). Not that I’m big on the project itself, but I think an argument could be made that the second/third best selling crypto physical coin is Potcoin. Not a lot of stuff has been made but what has been sells fast.

My two Satoshi’s

Thx LC

Krogo- I was gunna email them. Just thought someone here might have the coin handy. I kinda like the look.

Chi...If I ever come across mine will look.

But if you like it then Hodl on to it bro! I think they are some of the nicest coins made in our world of crypto coin collecting!

I agree. Besides their super shitty capsules that are made for garbage coins..I still plan to pick up their ICO coin, probably today actually.
6679  Economy / Digital goods / Re: (WTS) Cryptocards - Unique Collectible Cards on Blockchain on: January 26, 2018, 02:10:39 PM
This is very cool! I’ve wanted to see Smart Contracts in action for some time!

This may be a little off topic as I’m simply curious - how many “functions” per say, of this card game, are handled by smart contacts..if that makes sense? Really cool idea and will be looking in to it! Thx for sharing.

Yes it makes sense ChiBitCTy.

The answer is almost all of them. You can take a look at the main smart contract file https://github.com/skunkworkslab/misfitart/blob/master/contracts/DigitalArtCollectible.sol
The web site mainly queries the smart contract to get details about a card/digital art: who is the owner, is it for sale, transaction history, bids, .etc

On the smart contract we store details about each card/digital art: total supply, price, author, collection, transaction history, offer status, current bid, .etc

We do not store everything though. Images are too big and expensive to successfully store on the smart contract, so we store their fingerprint/signature to uniquely identify them.

Thank you for sharing that info. The tech behind it is something I don’t fully understand but am working hard to try to grasp..so much appreciated!
6680  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB]¬ CASASCIUS GOLD BARS and BITBILLS on: January 26, 2018, 02:00:15 PM
About a year ago there were 3 or so of these floating around but I have not seen one on here in a while.  I should have bought it when I had the chance back then.

Was thinking the same, a couple singles at great prices too.  I think these and the cas coins will be the mecca of crypto collecting for years to come.  Very scarce in the grand scheme of things if...errr...when the public joins our party

Thanks for the reminder and on set depression. I remember a beautifully wrapped in perfect condition bar on eBay a little over a year ago going for 3k-Ish Cry

I’m a moron.

This woulda worked too- https://imgur.com/a/VsIKa
