6681  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 60%, alts lagging behind on: June 26, 2019, 12:53:28 PM
The market dominance has risen to 61.2% now. It was as high as 62.2% a few hours back, but then some of the alts staged a fightback (especially Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash). Until two weeks back, ETH was trading above BTC0.03, but it has fallen to around BTC0.027. The volumes are very strong, but there seems to be an over-supply in the market.
6682  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin dominance hits 43%, alts surging ahead on: June 25, 2019, 04:03:02 PM
According to the Coinmarketcap website, Bitcoin dominance has breached the 71% level and is now reported at 71.2%. Including the forked coins (BCH, BSV, BTG.etc), the total market cap for BTC+forks comes to slightly above 74%, while the altcoin market share has dipped below the 24% mark.

I am sure that a lot of users may be unhappy about this, but I am delighted as more than 90% of my crypto assets are in the form of BTC. I had sold most of my alt holdings in 2018.

I am not very sure about the reasons behind the rising BTC dominance. But I suspect that the users have become more matured now, and a lot of them have realized that investing in shitcoins is simply not worth all the risk.

Here is my outlook for the major cryptocurrencies:

1. BTC: The prices will continue to increase and a new ATH may be reached by the end of 2019 or by 2020. The dominance will continue to increase and may reach 80% by the end of this year. But one concern I have is regarding the transaction fee. It has risen by more than 10x since the start of the year. Another 10x increase would be catastrophic.

2. ETH: The exchange rates are still lagging behind the ATH. The poor health of the ICO market is probably pulling ETH down. The Cryptopia hack also played its part.

3. XRP: I would say that this one is the most worthless and unreliable altcoins among the top 10. Therefore I am not surprised by its falling market share.

4. BCH: Holding well as of now. In case the BTC transaction fee spikes again (like what we had during 2017 Dec), then this coin can rocket upwards.

5. LTC: One of the best performing alts. However I won't be surprised if a correction occurs post block reward halving.

6. EOS: I don't know much about this coin.

7. BNB: I would consider this coin as overpriced. A correction is due.

8. BSV: A lot will depend on the future actions of CSW. Very unpredictable coin.

9. USDT: Everything was going well for Tether until the scandal at Bitfinex was revealed to the public. Now a lot of the users don't consider this coin as a reliable stablecoin. In the near future it will be facing a lot of competition from the other stablecoins.

10. TRX: An overpriced shitcoin. I don't have anything good to say about this one.
6683  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1,000,000 would kill bitcoin on: June 25, 2019, 03:45:34 PM
We are a long way away from $1,000,000 per coin. Even $100,000 per coin may take many years, if it happens at all. Now lets imagine a scenario in which the exchange rate of BTC rises to $100K. The market cap will be somewhere in the vicinity of $2 trillion and the real market cap (i.e after deducting the "lost" coins) will be somewhere between $1.6 trillion and $1.7 trillion.

Do you really think that the governments around the world would allow this to happen? They will never allow a decentralized currency to become the third largest one in terms of circulation volume.

And the second issue is with BTC mining. Right now cryptocurrency mining uses as much as 2% of the total electricity generation in the world. If the prices rise to $100K (i.e by 10x), then this proportion can rise to 20%. Do you think that this is viable?

Note that I was just talking about the $100K scenario. I didn't even considered one where BTC costs $1 million apiece.
6684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Cricket World Cup - Discussion & Analysis on: June 25, 2019, 03:38:50 PM
Wow, the English team seems to be in real trouble. 4 wickets down on just 96, and they still need about 190 runs to win this one. Let's see if Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are able to continue playing with the momentum they've gained till now. Currently, they've succeeded in getting a partnership of 44 runs.

Keep an eye on the required run rate, as it has edged past 7.00. I know that Stokes is a big hitter, but they need to score at least one run per ball if they are going to have any chance of winning this match. If they are unable to score at that rate against Stoinis and Lyon (RR for last 5 overs at 4.80), then how can you expect them to score 7 runs per over against Starc and Cummins?
6685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: June 25, 2019, 03:35:06 PM
Another challenging fight for Manny since Amir also have a good name from this game but that's still far and this coming event is more important, Manny needs to play hard to win against this young Thurman, speed will be the focus knowing that Thurman is more younger than him he should condition his stamina to stay with him and to keep the fight running till the last round of possible.

The Thurman fight is going to be extremely challenging for Manny, since his opponent is at his peak. On the other hand, Amir Khan is a shadow of his former self. He lost to Terence Crawford last month, and his performance was rated below par by most of the experts. Next month he is having a fight against Neeraj Goyat. I am not sure about the outcome of that fight (vs Neeraj), but for sure Manny will be the favorite to win against Khan if this fight happens.
6686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: June 25, 2019, 02:13:19 PM
England struggling at 26/3 after 6.0 overs. The only positive for them is that Bairstow is still there. As I had predicted, the Australian pacers made the life miserable for the English batsmen. In case they lose this match, then they'll move one step closer to crashing out of the tournament. The toss made a lot of difference and the English were right in choosing to field first. But despite that they are about to lose.
6687  Economy / Economics / Re: INDIA: Draft Law Proposes 10-year Jail Term for Dealing in Cryptocurrency on: June 25, 2019, 01:43:21 PM
Sad news for Indian friends who make cryptocurrencies sources of their income. Theres a lot of Indian individuals that are in crypto. I wonder what would be the purpose of their would be Crypto Rupee if they will not eliminate paper Rupee totally. The government must want to clean the country of any other cryptocurrency to circulate before they launch  their own.

India is not a very rich country, and a large portion of the population lead a hand-to-mouth existence. For millions of such people, cryptocurrencies are the source of passive income or additional income. You may not believe this, but an amount as small as $30 per month can make a lot of difference to many Indians. It is sad that the government is taking away this opportunity from such people.
India is not poo man, far richer than lots off countries, the problem with India is just their population. India GDP is 11 trillion dollars for a population of over a billion, don’t you think they are really trying. If India population was not up to that, then they would have been among world leading nation in terms of economy.

I guess they are trying to protect their economy, which is why they banned Bitcoin thinking it could do damage to their finances, but I know that with time, they will get better understanding, and see the benefit of cryptocurrency to their economy and to their citizens too especially in terms of job creation.

Obviously the uncontrolled explosion of population have been the no.1 curse of India. And the worst part is that it is the illiterate slum dwellers who seems to be producing children, as the educated people are having maximum one or two kids each. The current government policies encourage child production among the uneducated by offering them everything for free, at the same time discouraging the same among the educated by imposing various direct and indirect taxes which takes away a major part of their earning.
6688  Economy / Economics / Re: what will happen to bitcoin in india on: June 25, 2019, 01:38:14 PM
The article appeared in Bloomberg almost one month back, and till now none of the law makers have either confirmed it or rejected it. My understanding is that the steps are still being discussed among the financial advisers to the government, and it may take many months before the legislation gets finalized and sent to the parliament for approval.
6689  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Says- If Bitcoin Breaks 100k you can bet it will break a million on: June 25, 2019, 01:34:36 PM
Tyler Winklevoss' statement made more sense, probably implying that the bear market is over if BTC hits $10,000, hence it will likely go to $15,000. McAfee's statement though? Made no sense whatsoever. Dude's just trying to hype up bitcoin.

Winklevoss has invested heavily in Bitcoin, and as per the latest estimates he is holding around $1.1 billion worth of BTC. He makes his statements very carefully, and that too after undertaking a lot of analysis and research. McAfee on the other hand, is behaving like a little boy for the past 2-3 years. He is scared it seems, as he can still be extradited for tax evasion.
6690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: June 25, 2019, 01:27:38 PM
So odds for Thurman has crossed 190 per 100... These are exceptionally good odds, if you want to make a bet in favor of him. One month back, the odds were close to 150 per 100 and it has increased by 40 in a matter of few weeks. I am curious to see whether the odds for Thurman will break the 200 level. Anyway, 190 is good enough for me to make a bet.

Pacman odds is also down, people should bet early to get over 2.00 odds.
The last time I check with Nitrogen, the odds was 2.1 for Pacman, but now has drop below, this only tells that's a fair fight and it's gonna a fun fight to watch.

Obviously these betting sites will be getting news and information from closed circles and based on that they may change the odds periodically. As of now, the odds are around 190 for Thurman and 210 for Manny. I never expected it to get so close. And there is some interesting news that came out today. Amir Khan has agreed to fight Manny, and the tentative date is 9th November 2019.
6691  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: June 25, 2019, 01:19:50 PM
It's advantage Australia, as the pitch is offering a lot of support for the pacers. England is going to struggle against the Australian pace battery of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff. The problem here is that England will be struggling to reach the semis if they lose this match. Bangladesh is having 7 points and they will be at 9 if they could beat Pakistan.
6692  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-24] Google Searches for ‘Bitcoin’ Starting to Catch Up With $10K Euphor on: June 25, 2019, 03:40:50 AM
This is exactly what happened during the 4th quarter of 2017. As the Bitcoin prices moved past the $10,000 mark, there was widespread coverage about cryptocurrency in many of the mainstream media outlets. This in turn attracted many of the mainstream investors, many of whom took the plunge due to the fear of "lagging behind". But there was one major demerit with this cycle. The new investors couldn't distinguish between Bitcoin and the other cryptos and many of them invested huge amounts in to worthless shitcoins.
6693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC and Gold? on: June 25, 2019, 03:34:04 AM
Do you buy gold coins? What kind of coins? Do you buy gold bars? Where?

The most reliable stores to purchase bullion are APMEX and Kitco. Their prices may be slightly higher than those from your local pawn shop, but the resale value will be higher as well. There are many different options available within these sites. The most popular coins seems to be gold maple coins (from Canadian mint), gold Kangaroo (from Australian mint), and golden eagle (US mint). Other options that can be considered includes gold Krugerrand (from South Africa) and gold panda (from China).
6694  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Says- If Bitcoin Breaks 100k you can bet it will break a million on: June 25, 2019, 03:27:03 AM
I know, he is a person who supports the development of virtual currencies, especially BTC.  of course if BTC reaches 100K, then every investor will get a big profit. but. I think, every investor will invest their profits again.

He can be classified as someone who is pro-cryptocurrency, but we can't say that he is pro-Bitcoin. In the past he had supported a large number of the ICOs, and many of them turned out to be scams. A lot of users invested in these ICOs because they trusted him. And all of them lost their investment. John McAfee is no longer in the league of technological innovators. He is just an angry old man who is desperate for money and is constantly scared of getting arrested for tax evasion.
6695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO of Bank of America: “We Want a Cashless Society” on: June 25, 2019, 03:23:47 AM
One disadvantage with digital currency is that it needs a smartphone to operate. You can get smartphones for as little as $50, but there are a lot of people around the world who can't afford even this small amount. In case the government want to replace physical cash completely, then they should give free smartphones to all the citizens. Or they could link the PoS machines to the fingerprint of each individual and give them permission to transfer their funds by scanning the fingerprint. Anyway... I don't think that it is not practical to eradicate physical cash completely, at least for the next 50 years.
6696  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analyst claim Bitcoin will easily surpass $15,000 if it gets $10,000 on: June 25, 2019, 03:20:19 AM
No one knows for sure what will happen. You can listen to 10 different experts and get 10 different answers so I would suggest being prepared for all possibilities. The crypto market is very unpredictable.

You can never predict the future prices of Bitcoin accurately. Because you don't know who are the holders and who are the potential investors. This is different from the situation with the stocks, where everyone is aware of the major holders. Also, you can predict the future share prices up to a certain point by analyzing the performance of that company. But with Bitcoin none of these are possible. One thing that we are sure about is the upcoming block reward halving in 2020. It can have a major impact on the prices.
6697  Economy / Economics / Re: The market is looking healthy and greener all over again on: June 24, 2019, 03:48:33 PM
Still we are about 45% down from the ATH, which was reached on December 2017. The alts are even more so, with Ethereum down by 80% and Bitcoin Cash down by 90% from their respective peak levels. So I would say that there is still a long way to go. But looking at the trends, things looks rosy for Bitcoin. For the alts, I would say that they are yet to come out of the bearish loop.
6698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver's Bitcoin.com propaganda against bitcoin on: June 24, 2019, 03:35:30 PM
How many page views does his shit website get every day? I am sure that it is much lower than that of the Bitcoin article in Wikipedia. That said, we need to take care of all this propaganda being unleashed by the proponents of BCH/BSV. Because I have personally met users who have been fooled by it. Taking control of the Bitcoin.com domain must be done on a priority basis.
6699  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Breaks $10K Barrier – Where is all the Pump Coming From? on: June 24, 2019, 03:28:22 PM
In my opinion, the dip in 2018 when the prices declined to $3,000 per coin came as a blessing. At that time, a lot of the non-serious investors sold their coins and made exit. Also, the market dominance of Bitcoin increased as the proportion of non-serious investors was higher with altcoins (especially Ethereum and Ripple). Another game-changing moment was the announcement of Libracoin. IMO, it will give cryptocurrencies some legitimacy even in those countries where it is banned currently.

Afghanistan at 96-2 after 24.0 overs. I don't know how much depth is there in Afghan middle and lower orders, but at this point of time the match seems to be evenly poised. The required run rate is still under 7 per over and if the Afghans bat sensibly, then they can have their first win of this tournament. But for now, they need to deal with Shakib and his spin.
