I'm wondering why aren't the inactive threads auto locked and moved to archive? For example some threads which don't have new replies for maybe over a year should be locked and moved to archive.
But there are legitimate reasons for posting comments to old threads. Some have already been mentioned here. I would therefore instead suggest implementing a restriction based on user rank. I’m thinking that would at least take care of newbie throwaway accounts posting garbage in dead threads. Auto-locking sounds like a good idea. If this was done, then you wouldn't need to archive the thread. I can think of no good reason why an old thread should be bumped. Most forums suggest that the approved method of adding updated comments to an old thread is to link to it, and post the updated information in a new thread. This saves readers from scanning through a load of outdated posts tht are no longer relevant.

Well I've put him on ignore anyway.

|
So are you saying you want to increase rank so that you can sell your account?
|
|

You posted the correct answer - no.
Also you need to stop being lazy, and read some of the threads before posting. Have some consideration for the other members here.

Merits are not given out because most posts are crap. I ran a plagiarism check on one post by a newbie, and this is what I got.

A necro-bump is the bumping of a very old thread with a worthless post. It messes up the boards, and doesn't contribute anything. At the moment I'm giving away merits for up to ten posts per day, and if I put you on ignore, then you won't get any merit from me ever. I've also started to report these bumps, so you may end up on the radar of the moderators.

Why have you bumped this old thread with your rubbish comment.
I've put you on ignore, so no merit from me ever, and I've reported it as a necro-bump.

The merit system was designed to keep posters like you away from the main boards, and I did take the trouble to translate a couple of them.
Allowing merit to be bought would turn the forum into a brothel imho.

Please stop using capital letters in titles and posts. We don't like people shouting at us.

I'm a Bitcoin user, and not a bounty hunter, so I don't care about those boards. In fact I hope they will be shut down so that we can have our forum back.

From what I've seen, meta is the only forum where people are willing to give out merit. No one in the altcoin forums is willing to use it. I've made numerous posts that have gotten "thank you" replies, but no one has clicked the button yet. Then I come in here and I see people giving it out left and right just for sharing an opinion or being well known.
I dunno, I'm just extra salty because the system was put in to place like a week before I was supposed to rank up to full member so now I've got a lot more work to do to get there. Just need to find the right places to post I guess.
I had a quick look at your recent post history, and most of it seems to have been on the alt boards. There are quite a few of us who don't visit those boards, and thus we don't award merit there.

Hi there!! Do you heard about merit?? What's it for??
Merit is for people who are assets to the community. They start useful threads, they know how to read, and they aren't too lazy to read threads, and who help other members with their replies. The ignore button is for people like you who don't contribute anything of value, clutter the boards, and are too lazy to correct their typing errors.

I have made a post with almost 300 replies now and still no merit my brother sent me 10 but how cani get more im trying to rank up quick somebody help me out please and thank you
I'm adding you and your brother to my merit abuse gallery, and putting you both on ignore, so no merit from me in the future.

These threads are becoming really tiresome, and I hat stupid great images that contribute nothing to the post.
Another one to ignore.

Just a small tip to anyone copying their blockchain onto another drive. Make sure that you spell the directory correctly. I had a bit of a hiccup when I was setting up my Linux node. I'd spelt Bitcoin with a capital "B" instead of lower case ( or the other way round). I ought to know better after all the years I've been in computing.

There's definitely not enough merit to go around, but every thread I visit is overflowing with padded shitposts in garbage, broken English.
You have 44 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. I've got the sMerit, but I don't see the posts. I don't award merit to people asking me to review their posts either, so please don't pm me, or post links for me to look at. I may put you on ignore if you do. If we could stop all the crap posts, and tired old thread bumps, then I might have a chance of finding some posts to reward.

I suspect that you may have bought too soon. It looks as if we are still in the middle of a bear trend.
