6761  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cookies in broswers on: June 03, 2021, 07:18:45 AM
I think that browser cookies don't affect at all what happens with Electrum on your phone.

But if you want to sleep better, just buy the cheapest hardware wallet and put your money there. You may have to use Mycelium instead of Electrum on Android, you'll be able to use it also with your PC, as long as you made sure your Electrum is legit.
6762  Other / New forum software / Re: Be Back at EpochTalk on: June 03, 2021, 07:14:22 AM
on one of the forums [Coinbistro.com - Epochtalk testing grounds] that's using Epochtalk

I just wanted to give it a try too and couldn't easily find a link to a test forum, since we had moving avatars here for a while.
Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have here a pinned topic with links (and maybe the version they use).

it annoyed a lot of users back then
Ooohhh, I didn't know why they got removed/banned. Now it's clear, thanks  Wink
6763  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: June 03, 2021, 06:46:02 AM
Yes, I was not terribly clear and have rephrased the above message. While Sepa transfer would be good as well, what I am mainly looking for is a Crypto debit card that lets you send crypto to it and manage it with an "internet banking" style interface that works on PC. I do not like using smartphones for banking due to sight issues.

If the operations you need (from PC/browser) are only sending crypto to account, maybe conversion to fiat, top up the card and also checking the transactions, Binance and AdvCash clearly have that, I think that even Wirex has it.
6764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Statue in Hungary on: June 03, 2021, 06:41:56 AM
I just noticed is that they should use other components aside from bronze because that is not a good thing in a long time

Yes, over time it will turn green. No biggie.
I hope though that the reflective part will not be bronze. But the rest being bronze is fine... will simply make the new statue get to a similar look to many other known statues in Budapest.
6765  Economy / Speculation / Re: Taproot lock-in FOMO is coming(?) on: June 03, 2021, 06:32:08 AM
Imho the fact that mempool is basically empty would tell that everybody is waiting for something. The charts tell that is should be "something" upwards, with or without Taproot. That may start earlier than the ending of current difficulty period and then the Taproot lock in may fuel it even more or not matter at all (or even get considered as "already accounted for").

Of course, this is all speculation and the ideas come and go as fast as the market changes.

Edit: I also agree that "that tweet" should have not been so "powerful" and something else (too) was the cause...
6766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Statue in Hungary on: June 03, 2021, 06:16:58 AM
Great idea, and a smart one. It gives one more interesting point to visit in a city I've visited and I like. I guess that I'll have to go there again at some point  Cheesy
I wish they would also make somewhere nearby statues for Hal Finney, Laszlo Hanyecz and maybe others too (dead or alive). It would be quite a sight...
6767  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: This is IMPORTANT!!! on: June 02, 2021, 08:23:09 PM
it's not something very surprising that people makes mistakes while typing Laszlo name.

I think that's mostly carelessness.
It's the same for people talking about "Etherium" (I soo wanted at some point to make a worthless coin with this name only for the fun of it...), or, let's not forget, Bitocin.
Of course, these are "weaker" examples than mistyping Laszlo (which, if we want to be super-correct, should actually be László Cheesy - let's see how many would mistake it then; just I've seen in more than one language people don't always use the diacritics, so Laszlo is fine)

I can understand that people come from various places and may not write 100% correct English all the time (probably I make errors myself now and then), but the fact that so many are not paying attention at typing the names involved in the discussions saddens me.

6769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Jun 2021] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: June 02, 2021, 10:05:37 AM
It may worth mentioning that in this very moment the mempool is almost empty, it contains transactions for only 1 block (of course 1-2 more will fill up soon).
This means that it's a great moment for consolidating your inputs.
6770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't believe in digital money? Well... on: June 02, 2021, 09:53:59 AM
Hope that clarifies my stance and intent. :-)

It does, but it somehow also brings more "questions" than "answers".

I am all for the separation of the federal reserve and the ability for citizens to obtain goods with currencies, I just don't think Bitcoin is the answer for any of that; it is a great poster child and has served to really bolster the adoption of cryptocurrencies, but like I said, there are many better options now.

And to infer that "digital money" was somehow created by or originated with Bitcoin is silly - it's the first cryptocurrency, but it's not the first, last, or best digital money.

Well, if any digital coin is pegged to a central bank coin, it brings inflation and usually you also have to trust the issuer too.
If you come with other crypto currencies as being better, for being faster, or with bigger block size, or whatever, there's already a debate about that in another thread. The short answer is imho: such coins never had the volume + price + security of Bitcoin to actually prove themselves, but again, I don't want to derail this thread to become a copy of that one.

That Bitcoin currently is not the best digital money that can exist, I do agree. But it has proven itself worthy and it still evolves. And what the future holds, I cannot tell, maybe bitcoin will evolve in into what all expect from it, or maybe better one will emerge, future generations will see.
6771  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-02] Here’s How China’s Crypto FUD Will Play Out on: June 02, 2021, 08:09:43 AM
I also think that the most likely is "big thunder little rain".
Of course, they will do other actions (or announcements) when it will suit them. I expect that China and N Korea be some of the biggest whales and manipulators of the market too.
6772  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price since 2021.05.31 in about 7 months on: June 02, 2021, 08:01:23 AM
Please vote.
For you, for me, for all.

Really? And if people will vote, will it matter in terms of what's going to happen?  Cheesy
I will post my vote here, since the radio button is missing:

  • we are still in bull marker, but I don't know for how long and what will be the price marks and corrections to define it
6773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't believe in digital money? Well... on: June 02, 2021, 07:06:57 AM
Most money has been digital for decades. It's rare that I actually use paper money or any other physically tradable asset for goods.

Bitcoin is different, but it's not a great system for digital money. Digital USD is way better and there are other cryptocurrencies that also do it better, if you're just trying to get away from the current financial system.

You are new and you have still much to learn.

I'm a bit worried though that even people who made it to this forum do think like this and they don't understand that the way the central-bank based currencies are designed and used by the banks is against the benefit of common people. USD already has the inflation. A central-bank issued digital USD will (most probably) also have the options for surveillance (full tracking) and seizing (if they want to, they can get your money). They are not a way to go away from the current system, they are a way to keep you in even deeper.
6774  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You basically have to believe that JPM is behind the sale on: June 02, 2021, 06:57:33 AM
JPM appears to be manipulating.

It may be JPM, it may be TSLA, it may be others... however, who cares? Without proper proof you cannot do anything and even then, crypto markets are not properly regulated and as long as this remains like that, big & rich entities will profit.
What can we do is to understand when manipulation happens and profit (sell high buy low, or BTFD) or at least HODL.

6776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin had 1 minute block time and 1 minute difficulty retarget on: June 01, 2021, 06:35:59 PM
In short, making sure that those 4 mining pool operators and their families have around the clock security details is paramount to bitcoin continued security.

OK, this somewhat makes sense, although I expect that those pools are not operated by single individuals and most of those are anonymous. So it won't be easy to get to them.
And this is the same with any other coin and this also doesn't make Bitcoin less secure, really. Especially as just getting 51% of the hash rate is not enough for an "attack", you have to also do a double spend that worth the hassle. And as I said, if it's the case, a hard fork can "fix" this. It won't be pretty, but it can be done.
6777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin had 1 minute block time and 1 minute difficulty retarget on: June 01, 2021, 06:23:11 PM
coercion is a normal tactic of your criminal business model.

I'm not sure I understand your point, since coercion is normal everywhere against wrongdoers, no matter it's a criminal organization or it's the law structure of a normal country.
I guess that it's only the Bible that tells you to turn the other cheek, everybody else will go from explaining that you did wrong (if you are small child) to some sort of coercion sooner or later.
6778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This dip is PROOF that "I wish I would've bought Bitcoin at X price" is nonsense on: June 01, 2021, 06:17:30 PM
In other words: people who missed the opportunity of buying cheap bitcoins and complain about it would be the first ones to waste the opportunity taken if they had been holding bitcoins on their hands during a correction by panic selling all their coins.

Somehow you are right and there is a big chance potential investors would panic sell in this situation for different reasons. But we must also be aware that who really moves the market are the big investors, the whales. And these people don't panic sell because they are unexperienced or can't afford losing some money value on short run. They sell their coins because they profit from market speculation.
The fools smaller unexperienced investors who follow them don't make too much difference in bitcoin's fluctuations.

I think that it's incorrect to make a simple rule off this. I disagree with what OP said because I'm such an example.
There was one case, long ago, when I was very close to buy more Bitcoin very cheap. I didn't because the machine had tremendous fees. Then Bitcoin rose a little and I said I wait, then... poof, too late.

But (much) later on I started putting aside some of coins I've earned (I also sold some, I had/have to..) all in all, I do hold some. And I still think that I could have had much more if I would have bought, back then, at that incredible price.

On the other hand, I expect that most of those telling "I wish I would've bought Bitcoin at X price" never actually buy. So they don't also have anything to sell.

So, as I said, it's incorrect to make a simple rule. There's more than one category of people telling "I wish I would've bought Bitcoin at X price".
6779  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: weird transaction and using old electrum wallet with lightning stuff? on: June 01, 2021, 06:04:09 PM
while I get your analogy, I dont get why he cant sent the 0.018... btc exactly, like most people literally do it everyday?

Sorry, but no, they don't.

if I have 1 btc in my wallet and want to sent 0.5 btc. then I jsut sent 0.5btc +fees.
and not 1 btc.

It depends how you have that 1 BTC. If you have it from one transaction (it's called one input), then you have it as "one bill" and although you tell your wallet to send 0.5BTC somewhere, it will have to send the entire BTC, just 0.5 BTC (minus fees) will be sent to an address of yours.

Also now, if you want to spend from 37U6mb9bepC5LpW25xCvHAj4wAZCccyLdL and you want to spend only 0.01 BTC from there, the entire 0.01799319 will be "sent out", just ~0.00799 will be sent to yourself.

why would he not be able to do that, like what advantage would it give him to do it this way?

If he would want to do as you say, he would have to make one extra transaction (and pay the fee) to split his money. No use.
6780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't believe in digital money? Well... on: June 01, 2021, 05:57:58 PM
While that may work in practice, it's highly ironic. I use my fiat to buy Bitcoin, then I purchase your product using Bitcoin, then you sell your Bitcoin to earn fiat. What's the point of Bitcoin in the first place? Isn't it unnecessary? Why would merchants accept Bitcoin as a payment method if they don't insist on its main purpose/philosophy?

It was created to prevent the requirement for a financial institution. Not to add an extra layer around it.

You're right, but unfortunately I don't see a better way. As long as every country will ask for taxes to be paid in their own currency I expect that merchants of that country will prefer that currency. This makes Bitcoin only work as a "foreign" currency everywhere. And for such currency a conversion (i.e. an extra operation/layer) is the way to go.

The fact that you'll use this rather awkward workflow with most merchants doesn't stop you use Bitcoin directly where it's accepted, for example to pay overseas people for their work over the internet.

and even the media

Although the virus analogy is interesting, I think that media (and greed) have for now more effect than "infected" people spreading the word. (it will change in the future when the % will be better)
