681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robert F Kennedy Jr a Bitcoin Holder on: July 10, 2023, 10:34:25 AM
The news about Bitcoin holding seems to check out, but it's between $100k and $250k, and his net worth is $50 million, which means that it's, like, less than 1% of what this guy has. I wouldn't even call it significant Bitcoin support because less than 1% looks more like a small experiment than anything serious. Perhaps that can also explain why he denied owning BTC.
And, honestly, he is known to be a big promoter of conspiracy theories and an opponent of my country in very difficult times, so I don't think it's good publicity for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has some negative critics so I don't think the fact that he dodges crypto questions and his holdings of BTC is off at all, probably just a political strategy but I could be speculating. He is probably just exercising his right to privacy, but obviously that doesn't really work when people can access or obtain these types of records to share with the public lol. Now he just looks like a liar, right? So lying at the expense of what? Maybe he has a past with some nefarious characters and there is some kind of juicy story here to this 250k that will uncover in another 5 or ten years haha.
682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: A safe haven in times of economic recession? on: July 10, 2023, 10:26:10 AM
The economic outlook for the US looks pretty rough ngl. The US has put some bandaids on by raising the debt ceiling but when the US defaults on its loans and can no longer delay it and inflation continues at this rate it will cause a huge effect on all global markets to the brink of collapse. One would think that in these conditions that BTC would have a chance to shoot up and find a new all time high, its certainly possible! Only time will tell what will happen.
683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not decentralized on: July 10, 2023, 10:17:56 AM
I think you got it wrong. Binance wanted to reorg but it never happened. A 51% attack can happen but it never happened. Bitcoin has enough enemies who’d drool over ruining BTC by attacking it, but realistically this can’t happen.

Bitcoin’s more decentralized than ever. If somehow something happens with the miners and they decide to conquer and change BTC, Bitcoin is a community and if the community doesn’t agree it just won’t happen - or it’ll happen on a separate chain while we continue using the old BTC as it used to be.

Prove BTC is centralized.

I would definitely have to agree with Kevin, prove it is centralized m8. These claims you made were about binance and chip mixers only has so much effect on the crypto market as a whole, but they don't cause Bitcoin to be deemed a centralized currency in any way.
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoins on: July 10, 2023, 10:09:21 AM
I read some old threads about lost Bitcoins ND this question has been on my mind ever since
If the lost Bitcoins were for instance recovered will the price of Bitcoin drop  because in theory it would affect the amount of Bitcoin in circulation which will lower it's price . I saw in those threads that lost Bitcoins are considered a donation to the Bitcoin network. so if my theory is correct then we should be happy those Bitcoins were lost.

It wound't affect the price unless they sold them, however this does make BTC even more rare! There is a story to all of these lost coins, if only Bitcoin could tell the story for us on which coins were lost how and by whom. We know for sure there is a couple million on a usb drive in a trash dump somewhere, lol poor guy.

687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think at some point government will change its stand and adopt Bitcoin? on: July 09, 2023, 02:49:48 AM

My perspective

Just as the future is uncertain and no one can predict the future, The government may seem aggressive today on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption, and tomorrow change their stand due to high pressure and demands from their citizens to use a technology like Bitcoin in the coming years. If BlackRock CEO criticized Bitcoin in the past and later turns to embrace what he kicked against, the government may do so because the government is run by friends of these individuals or people who own these companies, and they may have influence When it comes to government matters.
El Salvador is a leading example of government in the front run of Bitcoins adoption and when more countries' governments follow suit in the race, other ones will not want to be left behind, they too will join the queue.

Let's have a general discussion, what is your standpoint?

[/b][/b][/b][/b][/b]
[/quote]

I think that in the long run most countries are just trying to jump off the USD train, I mean just the other day Ethiopia joined the application list for BRICs along with a bunch others where Ethiopia came from! Now apparently BRICs is planning to be pegged on a gold backed currency. Other countries like China are fully blown on CBDCs using social media apps and social credit systems for total dominant control. I like El Salvador's approach best tbh, going balls to the wall on Bitcoin.

We are really in the midst of a currency revolution, and from what I can tell its going to take quite a while to see any real change, but I think mostly that when we do we will see a pretty fast sweep from cash being king to CBDC+Cash to no cash and only CBDC, which might cause an uprising and "currency crisis" people will continue moving over to bitcoin gold and silver and other asset classes for some sort of relief. I think that trusted custodial solutions for crypto for the average joe is going to be crucial for its continued adoption. When you have companies like ledger giving crypto a bad name & people that don't really know how BTC works but want to get involved that could be a recipe for disaster for some people. Only time will tell what happens, but honestly thats just my two cents.
688  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Popular and Lucrative Ordinals Bitcoin NFTs- Where are my Ordinals Experts at? on: July 09, 2023, 02:40:36 AM
Hi All,

I imagine this post might be met with a high degree of skepticism but like it or not these ordinals seem like they're going to exchange hands no matter what and we have an opportunity here to make a lot of SATs with just one sat!!! A popular sat. A cheeky buggar sat, eh?

I want to know what is the best website to trade ordinals NFTs as well as to get informed on what are the trending Ordinals right now on the market, up and coming airdrops that you may all know of. I would like to know what is the best wallet to use for this as well? Might as well play around with it. Who knows could end up getting some really good ones that increase in value for a short time enough to cash out and get your chips up, savvy?

Cheers,

689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AI can hold a Bitcoin balance, send/receive Bitcoin. Worrying? on: July 09, 2023, 02:35:56 AM
As folks who are bitcoin bullish do you have any concerns or worries regarding this development?

No. People who've tried chatbot (such as chatGPT) already know AI sometimes can produce wrong information. Imagine what would happen if the AI send to wrong recipient, send wrong amount or set wrong amount of transaction fee. So anyone who value their Bitcoin wouldn't let AI manage their Bitcoin.

Could you imagine if you employed a ChatGPT bot to trade your bitcoin in the hopes of generating a profit and it just sent it all to its other ChatGPT AI Bot instead? Lmao. I'm sure its possible to write in the script to search for other ChatAI Bots and code them to attempt to sway the other chatbot to send all its holdings to their BTC address, is that possible?
690  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Recurring payments in Bitcoin wallets using timelocked transactions. on: July 07, 2023, 03:02:44 AM
So this post had ideas jumping to my head:

The timelock can only be cancelled if when you are broadcasting the timelocked transaction (that is RBF-enabled!), you broadcast another transaction without the timelock and place a higher transaction fee on it.
The timelocked transaction cannot be broadcast until after the timelock has expired. You can invalidate it with a transaction paying a lower fee prior to this, since the rest of the network know nothing about the timelocked transaction. The original transaction also does not need to be RBF enabled, since again, the network knows nothing about it.

As we all know very well, Bitcoin Layer 1 can send one-time payments, but recurring subscription payments are a bit of a thorn in the eye, because the Bitcoin protocol doesn't provide us with primitives for solving all of these things.

However, we do have locktime, so let's see how a Bitcoin wallet can emulate the recurring payments feature:

1. First, the wallet should come with a daemon or background program whose only function is to store signed transactions and attempt to broadcast them. That will free users from the necessity from leaving their wallet open 24/7.
2. When a service wants you to pay bitcoins, we currently have the bitcoin: URI, which encodes fields such as address, amount, and expiration date. New fields can be created: quantity= which dictates the number of payments, and interval= to describe the payment interval in days.
These fields can just be directly created and used immediately, since there is empirical evidence that shows that just deploying the stuff yourself (disappointingly) gets adoption much faster than trying to formalize it first (ZeroSync, Ark, Bitcoin transaction relay over Nostr, etc).
3. The wallet ensures that the UTXO set available in the wallet is enough to cover the fixed BTC costs over the specified time frame, and then signs a transaction for each payment, each one containing a UTXO from the previous transaction AND a locktime of the current block height plus (2016 - 100)*(interval/14) to prevent them from being spent all at once. This particular locktime also ensures that transactions can be broadcasted several hours before payday.
4. These transactions are then sent to the background program to be broadcasted in due time.
5. If you make a new transaction somewhere else using one of the UTXOs that are being used, the currently timelocked transactions are discarded and you have the option of lowering the recurring payment quantity, for any of your recurring payments (or even discarding them all together), in order to accommodate the new transaction, while a new set of recurring timelocked payments are created with the new time constraints and UTXO set.

So, I guess that really does it. Now let's see how long it takes for a wallet to pick up on this idea, as the infrastructure for handling this can easily be created server-side....

This is great! How do you figure out the appropriate amount of BTC to cover transaction fees accurately over a specified period of time? Also, is there a limit to how many payment intervals that you can put with this time lock mechanism?
691  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Caribbean Treasures Silver 1000 DOGECOIN and Silver 0.25 Monero on: July 07, 2023, 02:28:59 AM
Really digging these coins man! Great job on these love the use of DOGE and Monero on this. We are seeing a fun new wave of Bitcoin Silver hit the streets in the collectibles section and I can tell these were definitely made with some love! Props on the craftsmanship!
692  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 07, 2023, 02:26:05 AM
I found it very odd that neither Trezor or Ledger were at B23 conference in Miami this year, especially after the FTX collapse.
I have never been interested in crypto conferences, so I wouldn't know if this is a surprise or not. Have Ledger and Trezor regularly been participants in these and similar conferences in the past?

They were at the 2021 and 2022 shows in Miami.

Apparently the Nano S is their ONLY device right now not exposed to this new update for the foreseeable future (Simply because of its lack of memory on the device) leaving any ledger wallet user in a difficult place.
They have stopped the production and sale of this particular brand. They have stated that vulnerabilities and bugs will still be fixed if discovered. But the old Nano S won't be in their focus of attention for new features compared to their other devices. All of that + the memory limitations could be reasons why (hopefully) it won't support the Recover vulnerability.

One can only hope that the Nano S remains limited on that update, but i'm sure eventually they will find a way to update that too...

What are Bitcoin users to do in terms of cold storage hardware wallet storage for their coins to secure them?
I have never paid much attention to multisig solutions, maybe I should. But if I had to pick between multisig and an airgapped computer, I would go for the latter. Regarding hardware wallets, I agree with those recommending Passport. It's quite expensive, but they are doing many things right. I would also not rule out the Coldcard Mk4.

One thing I love about the passport is how much it looks like an old cellphone brick. I haven't really done much research on them yet but I have had a chance to hold one in hand at the conference and really liked how it worked. I have yet to check the Coldcard too, and same with me on the multisig solutions. Can someone please point me in the direction of a good air gapped wallet strategy?
693  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 06, 2023, 05:08:38 AM
I found it very odd that neither Trezor or Ledger were at B23 conference in Miami this year, especially after the FTX collapse. I've read many posts about the negative consumer sentiment on the ledger hardware wallets third party seed recovery service they have released over the past few months, they have trashed their hard earned reputation as the leading trusted hardware wallet and its despicable. Especially after their data dump a few years back on proprietary customer information including addresses, emails, and phone numbers, you would think they would try to keep their customers at bay instead of pulling this kind of ridiculous stunt. Apparently the Nano S is their ONLY device right now not exposed to this new update for the foreseeable future (Simply because of its lack of memory on the device) leaving any ledger wallet user in a difficult place. Trezor on the other hand has also been hacked a few times in the past, although I don't know much about the Trezor and if they're even still credible hardware wallets. What are Bitcoin users to do in terms of cold storage hardware wallet storage for their coins to secure them? I know multisig wallets are obviously the best case scenario, but don't have any experience with these wallets to date. Eletrum i've heard is great, i've also heard of CoinKite, and a few others. What is the best way right now to secure your coins?
694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Avoid Procrastination, Buy Bitcoin And Prepare For The Next Halving. on: July 06, 2023, 03:55:24 AM
At the end of the day, it only matters how much you can afford to lose. Nobody knows what will happen, no one has a crystal ball, but historically BTC has done well after the halving - it may take some time. I think it took about a year after each halving if i'm not mistaken, because miners tend to struggle at first once the halving occurs. There is an insane amount of FUD, and its a fun ride. The best thing you can do is get as much as you can and to HODL!!! Cool
695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I sold the altcoins and invested in Bitcoin" on: July 06, 2023, 03:50:30 AM
(Not financial advice)

50℅ BTC
30℅ ETH
20℅ Solid top 100 altcoins/tokens (10 of them)

I think that this is the best setup.

Why shy away from promising projects just after their downfalls from all time highs? There's no reason if you're ultimately HODL'ing. It's completely fine to have some exposure in case you get a exponential return.

To me this seems like a solid strategy. ETH definitely seems promising and is widely held by many huge conglomerate companies, individual investors and crypto enthusiasts alike, especially because of its use in DEFI projects, for NFTs, etc. Many of these other "shitcoins" could still get some nice pumps. Ultimately though I think long term stick with BTC. Try to diversify but in the end I think all roads will still point back to BTC. Thats just my take.
696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter Granted 3 Money Transmitter Licenses, Possible Bitcoin Integration? on: July 06, 2023, 03:43:12 AM
I definitely think it would be interesting if twitter did this. I imagine that you would be able to tip people for their posts in BTC or namely DOGE- Elon's favorite crypto lol. He is known to be a supporter of BTC in his past comments. It would certainly open up revenue streams in many different facets for twitter and crypto focused companies and even non-crypto focused companies alike. Elon has made it known that he intends to make twitter this "everything app" but that is still in the works, and with this new money transmitter license he has been granted in 3 states over the past week he is slowly making progress. He intends to turn twitter into this so called "super app" that would act similar to Chinese messaging app WeChat, which essentially lets you do everything like paying for your uber, paying for bills, really paying for anything. Even verifying your identity to use certain services, etc etc. I'm not sure how it will be received by the crypto community, but I have an inkling that it would not be ideal for remaining anonymous - IMO it seems to be a long term goal as a push for CBDC in the US once implemented. This type of app has helped China usher in their digital yuan so seamlessly to 1 billion plus people in their country.
697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BRC-69 tokens, a new standard in Bitcoin on: July 05, 2023, 09:15:19 PM
Very interesting, I thought it was pretty wild that this new token protocol saves a whopping 90% on mining costs! Ordinals still seem a little taboo to most folks on here, it's gonna have to be a heck of an update to gain more adoption to the OGs on here as they see no value to these...... I however do think it's overall good for the Bitcoin Ecosystem and opens btc up to new users...
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become stable currency? on: July 05, 2023, 09:11:27 PM
I mean honestly I was just thinking the other day how stable it has been lately, I remember when analysts were comparing bitcoin to Amazon and tesla stocks years ago poking fun at how BTC was more stable then them after years and years of scrutiny on how unstable it was, but when the markets were down and bitcoin held 45k for over a quarter it was turning heads in the last bull market. I honestly don't know when or if BTC will ever be a "stable currency" one thing is for sure is that in the long term it's destined to be a currency and already is in a few countries 🤔

700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanity Bitcoin Address Generator: Personalized Bitcoin Addresses for Branding on: July 05, 2023, 03:18:55 AM
I never knew what a vanity address was actually until Yogg  made me a special one (long before he stole all those funds from ppl on his bitcoin collectibles). It was a 1/1 peice with a name affixed to it. Very special and cool, too bad it's worthless now haha. I think vanity addresses are very unique for sure.
