681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secret Service Agent: Digital Currencies Fueling Cybercrime on: March 30, 2015, 02:37:03 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if the US starts funding terrorists via Bitcoin and then blaming Bitcoin. We've had this. The government is stupid. They can't control Bitcoin, they can't take it down. That's their problem. This is something completely new that they have no power on.

I don't think the government will go to such extremes just with the objective of discrediting Bitcoin.
Even if they do fund terrorists, the Bitcoin believers will just shrug it off and life will go on.

The US gov spends $billions on psy-op campaigns so I don't think it would be too hard of them to discourage mainstream use of btc by planting a few 'terrorism' stories. Let's hope it doesn't get to that stage, don't think any of us want to be put on a terrorism watchlist.
682  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Just found this site for buying and selling bitcoin through paypal on: March 30, 2015, 02:25:57 PM
Any thoughts, experiences?

www.weofferbitcoins.com

Never heard of that site before. I'd avoid using paypal to buy/sell any bitcoin regardless of the amount, there's just too much risk involved. The most tried and tested way is virwox but even that seems a lot of hassle when you can just use sites like localbitcoins.
683  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Night vision eyedrops allow vision of up to 50m in darkness on: March 29, 2015, 02:58:02 PM
Yeah I'd be a bit wary of putting something like that in my eyes, even if the drops do come from natural substances.

Would be epic if they could make night vision glasses (maybe even contact lenses), I'm sure there are plenty of military contracters who would find technology like that very useful.
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When did you first hear about Bitcoin? on: March 29, 2015, 02:36:47 PM
Late 2012 / early 2013 was when I first heard about bitcoin, I think wikileaks had just started using it for donations (due to the payment blockade).

Wish I'd done more research into it back then, only glanced at bitcointalk and wrote it off as a fad.

without digital currencies, "cybercrime would be much more difficult"

Quite true, but there was crime before digital currencies, they're only a medium. People buying drugs on Evolution (or other markets) were buying drugs on the street before, so you can say digital currencies are a good thing because they helped moving drug dealers out of the streets.

Exactly, the marketplaces have taken away the risk and stigma of buying drugs from street corners and into the safety and comfort of your own home. How many people's careers and reputation have been destroyed by getting caught buying a small bag of weed?
686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did Satoshi managed to stay anonymous? on: March 29, 2015, 10:58:01 AM
Staying anonymous was a very smart move Satoshi made. Hard decision probably.

Must be even harder keeping quiet and not bragging to your friends or family, I'd have thought there must be at least a few people who know satoshi's real identity.

Kudos to him/her/them for staying in the shadows, a lot of people would love to take credit for btc's creation.

Great job if you can get it...

...some of the agents received suspensions of between two to 10 days...

Is that all! Makes you wonder what crime a DEA agent would have to commit to get sacked, I thought institutions like this were meant to set a good example to world, instead they're banging whores whilst coked up to the eyeballs Smiley
688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hey i new and i need some help on: March 26, 2015, 02:25:58 PM
These ASICs are way too old to be useful today. Just buy some Bitcoins, it's a much better investment!
but i want to make profit
how am i making profit by buying bitcoins ?

The times of profitable mining have long past, you will never get ROI unfortunately.

Best to take the advice of hugs1BTC a simply buy bitcoin instead of wasting your time and energy with 2 antminers.
689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase CEO: bitcoin is far ahead! Altcoins are distractions! on: March 26, 2015, 02:10:24 PM
Altcoins are basically useless except for demonstrating/testing out new ideas or perhaps as a fork if Bitcoin got too corrupted.
at this moment, the only use any altcoin out there has is just to put money in a few people's pockets. if you see the price change of any altcoin, you can see lots and lots of pumps and dumps which a few people are getting rich by.

Most the use of most altcoins is indeed to make money to a small number of people.

If an altcoin truly had an innovative feature, I am sure it will get adopted in Bitcoin as well.

You would never hear of it anyway, the mods ensure anything that isn't bitcoin (even good stuff like distributed computing) is swept under the rug and the forums sanitized. Add the mood music of "all altcoins are scams" and subliminal ignorance is the order of the day.

Wouldn't go that far, at least we've got an altcoin section here. There were discussions of getting rid of it completely so I think would should at least be grateful for that.

I'm still looking for a decent altcoin forum...
690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i doned it i buried my private keys in concrete underground no one will know on: March 24, 2015, 02:54:13 PM
What happens if you move to a different house?

Seems like a lot of hassle to secure your btc...
691  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US may not reduce troops in Afghanistan on: March 24, 2015, 01:39:38 PM
Well been as the Trans Afghan Pipeline hasn't been finished (as far as I know),the US are likely to keep troops on the ground in Afghanistan for quite a while yet. Clearly they haven't been reading the history books or they would know the futility of occupying a country called 'the graveyard of empires'.

Meanwhile Afghanistan is probably due another bumper opium harvest.....
692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Relieving the pain inflicted by the jackboot of the state upon young Zoe's neck on: March 24, 2015, 01:06:15 PM
Bumping for visibility.

Collected so far: 0.99784352 BTC

Now over 1 bitcoin Wink

1.00215648 BTC to be precise, surely we can get a least 2 btc (every satoshi helps!).

693  Other / Off-topic / Re: PayPal? on: March 22, 2015, 08:05:44 PM
If I sell a item over paypal and they try to chargeback after I've already put money in my account...BUT I already called my bank and told them to stop any kind of payment to paypal...so they can't take anything out of my account, but I'm able to still withdrawal into my account...Am I in the clear? what will happen here? anyone know? opinions?

If the payment has already cleared to your bank account, your Paypal balance could go negative and that will prevent you from any further buying / selling / withdrawing money etc. If you don't clear balance after a few weeks they'll contact a debt collection agency in your country and you'll more than likely get a knock on the door. Similar thing happened to me, ended up having to pay the debt collecters the amount + service charges.

694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carve a private key into a stone? on: March 22, 2015, 07:37:43 PM

Ferro Tungsten is 32.93 USD/kg. It's been dropping in price since 2012 according to this chart. I don't know how much it would cost to engrave though. That infomine link gives a range of short term and long term price charts for metals.

http://www.infomine.com/investment/metal-prices/ferro-tungsten/

Wow that's a lot cheaper than I thought, might consider getting one made as long as the engraving isn't too pricey.

Something like this would be pretty cool, just scaled up and a bit more polished:

695  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling senior account on: March 22, 2015, 04:17:54 PM
I think it's unreal to sell Sr. Member account even for 0.4 BTC. I created an auction for selling my Sr. Member account with start price only 0.2 and nobody has been interested in it.

I've seen senior accounts sell for ~0.4 btc so it's not unreasonable to expect that amount, just depends on the amount of sig campaigns, btc price etc

Seems to be a lot of members selling their accounts at the moment so it's probably not the best time to be selling them.
696  Other / Meta / Re: Just remove signatures already. As in delete, disable, gone. on: March 22, 2015, 04:02:01 PM
Now that spammers are being cracked down on, and sig campaign managers are taking more action against shit-posting, I'm hoping the situation will get better.

No doubt there is still a problem but disabling them all seems a bit extreme.
697  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Low rates will trigger civil unrest as central banks lose control on: March 22, 2015, 03:45:18 PM
The sooner central banks lose control the better, what's the point of trying to save if your money is just stagnating in a bank with some pittance interest rate.

If I had any substantial amounts of fiat I'd either be investing in property or exchanging it for bitcoin, ideally both.
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be better than ApplePay ! on: March 22, 2015, 03:22:42 PM
The disadvantage of apple pay is that you can only use it with apple devices and only apple devices. Bitcoins allow users to use it on most platforms and have lower fees.

More reason not to bother with applepay, or any other apple product for that matter Wink

Could have saved themselves a lot of hassle and used an established crypto-currency.....like bitcoin.
699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Relieving the pain inflicted by the jackboot of the state upon young Zoe's neck on: March 22, 2015, 03:07:13 PM
Unbelievable that the cops can legally take Zoe's money, let alone the trauma induced by having your house raided by uniformed thugs.

Will be sending a small donation soon Wink
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carve a private key into a stone? on: March 22, 2015, 12:13:42 PM
Consider engraving your private key into a block of tungsten

With a melting point of 3422 °C if would be the only thing left if your house burn down.
And with approximate same density as gold, the block is rather heavy to pick up and run away with.

Wow, very cool. I like the idea of tungsten. It would be great if there is something like a hatch that will cover up the private keys and also coupled with a lock. That would actually hide the keys and if need to, will have to open up the lock in order to be able to see the characters inside. I imagine with a whole block like that nobody could be able to cart it away

Yeah it would be better if it had some sort of sealable cover (tamperproof maybe?) or a thick metal lid with a combination lock.

I'd imagine a lump of tungsten like that would cost a lot of $$$ to buy and engrave.
