But when it comes to performance and for the continuation of the season I still won't be too worried even though they are currently in second place but I am quite sure that Manchester City are the strongest candidates for the title again.
I support Arsenal and I will love for them to win the league title this season, but I have to agree that currently City has the class and abilities of champions and it will be a herculean task to pry it from their fingers. They have an insane squad depth and come up with new dynamism for different opponents unlike other teams that have a more singular approach to difficult matches. They are of course helped by having more money to spend than some of the other teams but the bulk of the work is done by effective scouting and player management.

Can Arsenal win the league this season? Maybe...
Will they win the league sometime in the next 5 years if Arteta stays and the board backs him up? Definitely.

My highlight of tonight's champions league fixtures has to be Newcastle hosting Borussia Dortmund. St' James pack completely hoarded the Parisians and they gave a dream return to champions league at their home stadium. Here comes the second fixture at home and Dortmund will definitely be expecting the atmosphere and working to slow down the pace of the game as much as possible to reduce any chance of a momentum being built. They have shown to have a decent defense this season and will want to show an example of that again.

Over at the Estadio Olympico, Barcelona will want to make it 3 wins out of three matches in the early kick off of the evening. Their form has not been the best and the team is haunted with injuries but they have enough quality to their opponents tonight.

...
mpep has answered this previously on this thread, or better still linked a response from theymos on his opinions

Here is the highlight which touches on your question;
EDIT: In regards to automated translations from non-English to English, I've PMed theymos about it, specifically with the following questions:

  • What is the exact policy on automated translations (both English -> local, as well as local -> English)?
  • When is it [read: automated translations] prohibited?
  • When is it allowed (e.g. possible scenarios or situations)?
  • When is it arguable and up to the moderator's discretion?

Here's what he had to say (publishing this with his permission, of course):

...
In the English sections, the policy should generally be to ignore whether or not it's autotranslated, and evaluate the post on its merit. Bad grammar is obviously not disallowed, but if it's so bad (due to autotranslation or otherwise) that the post is basically incomprehensible, then it's a useless post and should be deleted. If it's translated from elsewhere, then you should generally act the same as if the source was originally in English, asking questions like:
 - Is the quote useful/on-topic in the post's context (especially after being mangled a bit through translation)?
 - Is the user just finding stuff to copy in order to bulk up his posts?
 - Is the user passing this off as his own when it's actually not?

684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fake casino streamers! Why such streamers are very popular? on: October 23, 2023, 03:21:18 PM
Streamers will do what they can to attract viewers and casino houses will do what they can to attract customers.

This means some streamers do it cause it is a trend and the market of casino players is large increasing their potential viewers and some are paid directly by the websites for promotion.

685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on side bet worth it? on: October 23, 2023, 01:07:31 PM
I thought from the title that you were referring to bets on a thread between two people different from the main theme of the thread. Like I better with someone, mostly a rival fan, on which team will finish above the other at the end of the league season. That side bet is definitely worth it as long as you do not allow club interest affect your judgement.

For any other bet, it depends on the odds of winning or losing. Some games are included by the house just to make them extra profit.

Anyone else think Ramsdale would have kept Chelski out better yesterday (I know he wasn't even on bench for family reasons)? Not that I'm calling for Raya to be rescinded. I know Arteta wants a style of play he can get from Raya and that takes time but even that doesn't excuse his positioning (which needs to be better if he will fit Arteta's keeper vision). Kind of feel for Aaron.
As an Arsenal supporter, I will very much not want doubt to start creeping into the choice to go with Raya over Ramsdale. The gaffer has made the decision and he has been impressive for a number of matches, especially in his distribution which is the major part of his game. One positioning mistake should not affect his confidence or his starting position, if it gets too frequent then we can have that discussion.

...He has been slightly careless but as you said, improving. I just feel he was not really worth the money, not his fault. I trust in Klopp but our stealth buys are usually where we excel (Szoboszlai case in point).
Compared to recent signings (Caicedo, Enzo, Nunez and Rice) I will say Alexis was a steal of a transfer. Only Rice has performed better than him... and maybe arguably Enzo in recent games and he is cheaper than all of them.
With enough time he will surely improve.

687  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Without power, how many years can a hardware wallet retain data? on: October 22, 2023, 03:19:52 PM
Yes, I agree. A portion, like passphrase should be encrypted into electronic documents. Backing up everything on paper or metal is not secure.
Backing up everything on paper is very secure and has worked properly for the number of years I have used it. There are lots of information that I have written down on paper that are still very readable now after decades that they were written, now I just have to keep it a safe location where third parties cannot access it and it cannot be damaged by natural factors. I then duplicate that for extra security.

Works better for me than an electronically encrypted file.

Yes, I'm well aware that the best teams play with a goalkeeper when building up the play - but there must be some common sense by those goalkeepers as well.
It was really a game of errors. Raya made a mistake in the other end which allowed Mykhailo Mudryk to take the blues two goals ahead and almost gifted them a third after passing straight to a Chelsea attacker in the 18 yards box.

Despite the error we all have to appreciate the strike fro Declan Rice. He could not have hit that any cleaner than he did and made sure to punish the error.

Overall Arsenal were very lackluster and got lucky to get a point in the match.

...which bring Liverpool to the top of the league table for some time which is good for the players and fans as well...
The second switch at the top of the table happens now with Manchester City going top. They made their win against Brighton more difficult than it should have been after a very solid start to the match.

I did not get any exact score and managed to get a fairly predictable Newcastle victory wrong, one of only two players to predict that match wrong. But late goals from Luton town and Wolves saved me some blushes this week.
All attention switches to Stamford bridge now and we will see if we get the 4th team to top the table today or will City remain at the summit.

Hard fought victory and Liverpool go top of the table for the mean time at least. If City win later today they will go top and if Arsenal win Chelsea after the late kickoff they will go top. We could see four different teams top the league today, cause we started the day with Tottenham on top. But Chelsea and Brighton might have something to say about that.

Tottenham do not play until Monday hosting Fulham and they still have a chance to go back on top then depending on results today.

The second half will be unstable for Everton's defense and perhaps the coach will rotate players to cover the gap at right-back.
The coach will certainly make changes to cover up the loss of Ashley Young at right back. Ben Godfrey can be deployed in the right back wing to fill in with an attacking player taken off, hopefully not Calvert Lewin. Even with the rotation, Everton have it all to do in the second half to take anything from this game.

Sen Dyche went with a double change; taking off two midfielders and bringing on two defenders. This shows how he wants his team to play the second half of this game.

Hoping Alexis improves and meets his rating for once.
He has been really decent today with his passing (long and short) and also his close control. I also think he has been decent all season and he has an average sofascore rating of 6.95. Boy is still settling into the team and will only improve from here.

Half time and still goalless but Liverpool will be playing the whole of the second half with a man advantage and should make that count having coped well with playing one and even two players short. Nunez should come on at some point in the game too.

2 out of the four losses Sevilla has suffered this season has come at their home ground and their performance was underwhelming, has been so through out the entire season. I do not see a way for them to avoid defeat against a Real Madrid side which has been on a roll. The best they can hope for tonight is a draw.

Bookies are not expecting an upset either, with 4.30 odds for a home victory and 4.10 for a draw. Attractive odds, but unlikely to play.

Manchester City - Brighton

This is the match I am most excited to watch this weekend. On paper it looks to be an easy victory for the cityzens. They are playing at home and have turned that into a mini fortress where they almost always win. Recent defeats to Arsenal and Wolves were away from home.
They have also lost 2 straight games and will not be looking to lose a third game in a row.

Statistics also favor City to win. They have won all except two of all meetings between both sides, losing one and only one being a draw.

That's interesting! I don't think it's likely that CR7 Jr will play with his father as he's now 38 and his son is 13 - maybe by the time his son is 18 his father will have retired.
Many players make their debut  before 18, some as early as 16 or 15. If he impresses and shows promising talent, he can start playing professional football in the next 2-3 years for a decent team.

Can his father play for 2-3 more years? He is in great shape and is still playing at a high level. He possibly can play for the next couple of years at a less demanding league (like the one he is playing at).

But even if they both are still playing football at the same time, facing each other or playing for the same team is not assured.

697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I think gambling is inbuilt, kids don't learn it anywhere, they do it! on: October 19, 2023, 06:19:32 PM
It made me understand that, despite during those days we had no phones or access to the internet, gambling is somehow embedded to the brain of humans. Then, as a child, we weren't exposed to gambling. I could only remember of lotto, as a kid.
We are exposed to gambling subconsciously during our daily activities. It does not just have to be detailed ads on it but routine activities we do that involves taking a risk to get something in return. Children pick up this subtle behaviors and absorb them which will reflect in how they act.

This does not suggest at all that gambling is hereditary.

Government doesn't encourage such advertisements that is the fact but legally minors aren't allowed to gamble either online or offline so if they do means they are violating the platform's term and breaking the law then they have no defense at all if something goes wrong even as a legitimate mistake.
Many gambling platforms do not really put strict restrictions, they expect minors to be able to still register, but they throw in the requirements if they win something big and then refuse to pay them.

Give Onana more time to adapt well, he only has 11 games with Manchester United. There are players who immediately fit into their new team and there are those who don't, so let Onana adapt well for his first season and see what he can prove after that.
At this level of the game he has had enough time to adapt to the team. Playing between the sticks and as an in-field player are two different things and requires different levels of adaptation. A goalkeeper does not have to adjust to much besides having his team get used to how they play out of the back but he does not have much to adapt in term of shot-stopping.

Raya at Arsenal did not spare anytime to get used to playing, even with his risky play out of the back and has not had much errors while playing.
Different players but Onana needs to get up to speed and not cost the team much points.

Been your own banks literally gives you the same authority that financial institutions (banks) posses, such as:
1. Sending money to anyone around the world with out intercountry restrictions.
...
Even local banks cannot send across countries without any restrictions. SWIFT regulates transaction across borders and can put restrictions on banks cause of political reasons like was done after the onset of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

I remember there were several players who deliberately did not play at their best because they didn't like the coach. They played so badly that the coach was sacked for poor performance, it worked and I really wonder if that scenario was thought of by a handful of Manchester United players?
In this situation the manager still has to be sacked cause they have lost control of the dressing room already. Managers have a role to keep the team playing in synergy and all players playing to their top potential, if they cannot do that, the owners cannot change the entire squad cause of the coach and will opt to change the manager instead and remove one or two problematic players.
