681  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How much was the price of Bitcoin when you started trading? on: November 25, 2023, 08:07:48 AM
To be very specific, I remember bitcoin dipping below $200 and me sitting like a dribbling moron at my keyboard wondering how low it was going to go.  I probably even posted about it, which would've been back in 2015.  Ugh.  I am not joking about that sinking feeling in my chest when I contemplate what could have been.

The only thing I console myself with when I start thinking of "what could have been" is the fact that I didn't know much about Bitcoin and I wasn't making much income back then to buy in Bitcoin. I know that's an excuse I tell myself because even though I didn't make enough back then I still made enough to buy Bitcoin if I really wanted to.
It gets worse when I think about the fact that my local currency has more value on the dollar back then so I wouldn't have spent as much as I will now to buy Bitcoin.
682  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk: Error 504: Gateway time-out [Update: November 11, 2023] on: November 25, 2023, 07:30:28 AM
this becomes scary for the signature participants only

This particular time-out lasted for a couple of hours. Not more than 2 hours even, how's that going to affect signature participant? Two hours of interruption won't stop you from making any amount of post you want and it also won't make you miss a deadline.

This frequent scenario in the website is affecting businesses in the forum. I don't know how many millions or billions are lost whenever the forum is down.
What business on the forum will make people lose millions, talk more of billions within hours of the site being down?
683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much do you Trust Bitcoin ? on: November 24, 2023, 09:25:17 PM
How do you perceive the potential influence of DeFi and NFTs on the trustworthiness and growth potential of Bitcoin, and how does this factor into your overall level of trust in the digital asset ?

I believe NFTs are going to have a negative influence on Bitcoin as we can see right now with the network fees even though it's temporal. But aside from that I believe NFTs have a negative influence on Bitcoin because so many people will lose money to NFTs, it has been preached to some as a sure way to escape poverty. Now when these bunch of people flock in and lose money, they'll categorize everything related to crypto as scam or fraud, including Bitcoin. Few might see that NFTs are not Bitcoin but many would avoid it because of their previous experience. This has already happened and it's happening right now and will still happen.

To make it simple from 0 to 100  how much do u trust on Bitcoin ?

I think it would be a 97 and this is me being modest. We can see the facts and figures. No altcoin or NFT has come close to Bitcoin, talk more of reaching it, before surpassing it.
The features of Bitcoin are unique to any other coin. It's even more fascinating when you realize that it's the first cryptocurrency ever created. Usually, other inventions in an industry do better than the previous one, but the reverse is the case with Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has been better than every other coin ever created.
684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: November 24, 2023, 08:53:55 PM
Xabi Alonso who's having one of the very best performance and stats in Bayer Leverkusen have grown to become one of the top targets for Real Madrid after Carlo Ancelotti leaves Santiago Bernabéu stadium in years to come.

If Madrid presents a very good project to Xavi Alonso I think he might accept it, but I'm sure that whatever contract they give to Alonso, it's going to be time-sensitive. Ancelotti is leaving at the end of the season and Madrid needs a new manager fast. Xabi Alonso would want to spend at least one more year in Leverkusen before leaving for a bigger club.

Aside from Zidane, Madrid doesn't usually sign managers who have not proven themselves at the top level, so it would be a gamble for Perez too. Managing Leverkusen and managing Madrid are two very different ball games, with different pressure and expectations.
Xabi Alonso is a very good manager, but if I were him I'd make my decisions very carefully. He has a good thing going right now and he has the chance to create history with Leverkusen, I don't think it would be advisable for him to rush things at this point in his career.

686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Holders Hesitant to Sell Despite Price Surge on: November 24, 2023, 03:59:39 PM
they don't hesitate to sell but they have a target above 60k$ to sell their bitcoin . for now the price is not much unless people who bought when btc was at 25k$ have reaped the rewards of their patience, keep holding on until the new ATH because everything will be satisfying

Even people who when the price was $25k won't want to sell at this point. Everybody is speculating a bull run soon, some are even speculating a new ATH after the halving, so selling now won't be a wise decision when they can make more profit.
If the bull run has already started, as so many people believe imagine how high it gets from now till the next halving.

I believe that Bitcoin has gotten more trust among its owners, but I don't believe trust alone is the reason for this. People are looking ahead to how much profit they can make if they don't sell now. Besides, the price is climbing so there's no reason to panic. We'll see the real trust when the price is dipping.
687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: November 23, 2023, 10:46:52 PM
I found the same news, Barcelona will not buy new players. Maybe they will maximise De Jong and the existing players.

Barcelona will add Vitor Roque to their squad in January. That would be a very wonderful addition since Lewandoski looks to be out of form. The problem is Vitor Roque is recovering from an injury currently and we do not know if he will be in top form when he arrives

Regarding Gavi, I think it's not the end of his career because there is still a chance with his ACL revamping. Maybe a little longer, but I think he can come back to play. Even I also have ACL at this time. Even though I wasn't a professional player, the ACL kept me from doing my best in football because I didn't have surgery to repair the injury. I know how painful and sad this injury is.  So hopefully gavi gets well soon, he is still young and his recovery will be faster.

Gavi is going to have to work extra hard to get back to top form when he returns. Going out injured for about 9 months does so much harm to any player. We know Gavi is a fighter and he'll work for it but it's not going to be easy.
ACL injuries are relatively better when surgery is involved. It takes longer time for normal treatment and can easily relapse if not handled carefully.

There is a Girona - Athletic Bilbao game as well in a few days. What do you think? Can Girona maintain their current winning streak which has reached 5 games already?

Girona is in better form than Bilbao and should win that game, but Bilbao is also a very stubborn club. They're hard to beat. Girona has faced just one club in the top 6 and they lost the game. Bilbao has faced two teams in the top 6 and they lost both games.
So you see it's going to be very close. I can't confidently predict the winner but I'm going to beg in both teams to score.
688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you foresee crypto payments going mainstream soon? Why or why not? on: November 23, 2023, 04:16:37 PM
I have always believed that Bitcoin might become mainstream one day, but I've never believed it would happen within a short period. And I have also never believed Bitcoin or crypto will replace the traditional methods of payment.
So yeah, I believe Bitcoin adoption will grow exponentially and more people will begin to accept it, but it won't be "soon".
Currently, there are too many "obstacles" stopping Bitcoin from being globally adopted as a method of payment.

There's the problem of high transaction fees,
There's the problem of volatility, which may be an advantage to some, but it's a disadvantage to others. Imagine using Bitcoin as a medium of exchange as a business and you receive payment worth $200 and by the end of the day, you'll find out that your $200 has turned into $195. It may seem like a small amount, but nobody would be pleased with that.

Then there's also the fact that not everybody has gone digital. For Bitcoin to go mainstream, I believe more people have to be digital. Currently, it is estimated that about 65% of the world is using the Internet. Out of this 65%, I'm certain a good number of them are just novices who do not really know how to use the internet well.
689  Economy / Economics / Re: Insurance is important on: November 23, 2023, 03:56:25 PM
It's all about the situation, the costs etc..but to flat out say insurance isn't necessary is to be ignorant.

It's funny because where I'm from if you try to talk to the average person about getting health insurance, they'll start giving you excuses like, "I'm healthy, I don't need insurance". When I try to tell them that nobody prays for an illness, nobody wishes to get sick, especially one that is very expensive to treat, but people get sick all the time, and a fatal accident can also happen. They'll counter you, "It's not going to happen to me", at that point, I just say "That's what they all thought".

Other than health insurance is not essential for me because, as long as I'm healthy, I can do many things.

This is exactly an example of what I'm talking about.
At least you can see that health insurance is essential, so that's a start. I don't know you and I can't claim to understand your situation but I can assure you that however bad you imagine things to get, it can always get worse. If you don't have any assets at all and no kids and don't plan to have any then you might be right, otherwise, think again.
690  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Massive influx of scammers activity during the bull season. on: November 22, 2023, 10:25:59 PM

I read this article by Chainalysis a while ago, It made me realize that scam activities are relatively less during a bear market because users are generally more pessimistic and unlikely to believe the guarantees and promises of a scammer about higher returns since prices are declining.

If this is the case in a bear market, it should be the opposite in a bull run. People are more trusting and optimistic about making a profit. They are ready and willing to listen to juicy offers because they can see that there's money to be made. This usually leads people into the wrong hands.
691  Economy / Economics / Insurance is important on: November 22, 2023, 02:18:18 PM
I don't know who needs to hear this but you need to get insurance if you have assets that are your source of income and it can be insurable. This may not mean much to a lot of folks in developed countries because they're familiar with it, but a lot (and I mean a lot) of people in underdeveloped countries don't care about insurance.

I've read stories of people who were okay financially going broke because they have spent all they had to treat an illness for themselves, their children, or loved ones. I'm not saying insurance is our personal lord and savior, but it can help you in tight situations.

Around November last year, I volunteered to join a local and small NGO that was taking food, drugs, and other supplies to flood victims.
For context of how big the flood was, we used speedboats on roads and it was as though we were on a high sea.
Experts gave lectures on how to prepare for a flood and not wait for it to be too late. Some of the people we met told their stories.

We met one woman whose case I found very interesting.
She had a farm; a fishery and a poultry farm. The poultry was much bigger than the fishery. The farm was so big and established it made her thousands of dollars monthly in gross income. The flood took her by surprise, she was able to rescue some feeds and animals, but she lost so much of it.
Now let's ignore the fact that she was careless for not believing the warnings that a very big flood was coming because, in her words "In my 56 years of being alive and my 17+ years of doing this business, I've never experienced the tiniest bit of flood"
Let's focus on the fact that neither her farm nor a single thing on the farm was insured despite generating that kind of income.

Because of the damage we saw, the NGO started a campaign for the government to help these farmers with grants and loans so they can get back on their feet (but y'all know how politics gets). This allowed us to visit this woman at her farm. She's back on her feet, but it could take years to get back to what she was before the flood.
If her farm was insured, it most likely wouldn't have taken her that long.

There are many more people like this. A cab driver loses his care and he's back to square one because that's his source of income. Others get an illness that is expensive to treat and they go broke trying to pay for the treatment.
A husband and father die unexpectedly and leave nothing behind, leaving the wife to struggle alone to take care of the children. This takes a family that was comfortably a middle-class family to a lower-class family.

If you make money, get health insurance for you and your family, and insure your assets that are a source of income, businesses. Get a life insurance to secure your family's future.
There's a saying " hope for the best and plan for the worst".
692  Economy / Economics / Re: when the rich say 'ill give 95% of my billion away over my lifetime' explained on: November 21, 2023, 09:43:56 PM
lets take FTX ex-ceo scam bankman fraud...
his altruistic pledge.. but how many tins of baked beans did he donate to foodbanks vs buy houses for his parents

Yea, I get it, a lot of them pledge all that for their selfish reasons, be it to avoid taxes, to make more money, or to seem good in the eyes of the public. A good number of them are frauds in this regard, I know. I didn't know about the interest they pay instead of the actual amount you talked about till today, but I always knew there was no way they would be giving 95% of their net worth away.

My reply was to the post that said "It's rare to see a billionaire helping those in need". I don't think that's true. Generalizing like that isn't fair on the ones that actually help don't you think? Because there are millionaires and billionaires actually helping instead of just acting like they're helping.
693  Economy / Economics / Re: when the rich say 'ill give 95% of my billion away over my lifetime' explained on: November 21, 2023, 08:13:24 PM
It's rare that I see billionaires who always help those in need, especially during times of calamity. Only a few people know whether it is the rich who really care about the poor or the so-called philanthropists.

This is not true. A lot of billionaires help out. You can say that they just do very little, but it's their money and they can use it for charity however they want. It's their money.
The problem is most of the money they donate doesn't get to the people who really need it.
A lot of billionaires and millionaires are funding charity projects around the globe and it's their money. They can decide to do no charity at all and they will not be wrong in any way because it's their money.
694  Economy / Economics / Re: Is stagflatiotn upcoming? on: November 21, 2023, 07:50:02 PM
It's not about economic data, the US is one of the most hated countries on this forum, that's why you have a hundred topic about how it will crash burn the economy is doomed, the US dollar is worthless etc, etc, ton after ton till it becomes nauseating, it's envy and hate because of rejected green cards, that's all.

Not just on the forum, in general, the US is one of the most hated countries in the world but I don't think it's because of rejected green cards lol. A person looking for green card won't hate on the country. It's misinformation.
Some people might have valid reasons why they hate the States, but I believe a lot is based on misinformation and propaganda.
When you're at the top you're at the top you face a lot of scrutiny and criticism and this leads to a lot of people who do not really understand the situation asking questions.

Sometimes arrogance is allowed to exist, but the US country is in debt.

Is there a single country in the world not in debt? If there is how good is their economy? The debt of a country doesn't mean that country is sinking. Every country takes loans. The problem comes when the country takes those loans for consumption and not for production.
If they want to go into a very expensive project, do you want them to just print money and use it for the project thereby increasing inflation? No, they won't do that. They'll take loans and finance the project then pay back the loan from the proceeds of the investment over time.
695  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Israel and the simple truth on: November 21, 2023, 10:27:37 AM
So I strongly condemn this Israeli attack. But all the Muslim countries in the world should help Muslims (by becoming Muslims). Because in Palestine, food, water, medical facilities, clothing, these are very scarce. Therefore, we must help the Palestinians in any way, with weapons, food, water, and medical care.

See how you don't condemn using hospitals as shields. I know you'll say it's not true. You don't care if it's true or not, you just want to side with the side you support and that is why this war has gone on for a long and will keep going on.

Two truths can exist.
Israel bombed hospitals killing multiple children and Hamas built its bases and headquarters under hospitals.

It tells me two things, Hamas don't care about the lives of the children and civilians, they just care about the propaganda.
Israel also doesn't about about the children and civilians. So I see no reason why one side should be applauded while another side is chastised. They both had no right to do whatever they were doing.

To me it is still very unreal how efficient Hamas has been doing building their underground network of tunnels under Gaza, it sounds like something they could have not been able to do so by their own. What about the food, the machinery, the money and overall the resources needed to big all of that?

Who controls the area? Isn't it Hamas? If they decide to build bases under hospitals what would the authority do even if they knew?
Don't just look at things from the surface. Hamas gets a lot of funding from some other Islamic countries and terrorist groups too, so if it's the funding you're worried about don't be. They may not have the funding of Israel, but they have enough for a project like that.

If they truly built headquarters or bases under hospitals then they're cowards, and I'm not sorry to say it. How do you use a hospital as a shield?
To me, as inhumane as bombing a hospital is, I feel using a hospital as shield is even worse.
696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: November 20, 2023, 10:41:51 PM
This is a difficult time for Barcelona, both for the players and the manager. Gavi is an important player of the team, and his presence is well recognised and appreciated. His injury appears to be severe, and he could be out for the rest of the season. These are difficult times for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, as Real Madrid is also dealing with injuries as a result of the international break.

When these players complain about these things, fans, and FAs say they're paid to play so they should play. They'll even point to how much they're paid. Even if a player is paid a billion a week, his body will still break down when it can't go on anymore.

The games are too much, there's not enough time for these players to rest. FIFA and other regulatory bodies just keep adding more competitions and changing the current competitions to include more games.
It doesn't matter how much these players earn, they're still humans.

I this goes on for a long time, we'll begin to see that players can't remain in top form for a long time due to injuries. Gavi might not be the same when he comes back from injury around August next year. That's about 10 months without football. We saw how Fati suffered, Pedri too, and now Gavi.
Vinicius has been struggling with injuries and has not gotten an opportunity to heal properly. It's killing the players and therefore killing the game.
697  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will SEC delay on Spot ETF approval do to Bitcoin's price?@ on: November 20, 2023, 09:54:24 PM
At this point, I don't think there will be any more dip till the halving. A lot of people will be buying Bitcoin while anticipating the halving. This will increase the demand and make the price keep increasing.

As for the ETF, a lot of experts believe it will be approved in Janus and that's like 2 months from now. It's not a very long time so people who bought Bitcoin for that reason won't want to sell it off when they could hold on for 2-3 more months and see what happens.
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best thing that have ever come to you thanks to BTC on: November 20, 2023, 04:00:27 PM
One of the best things about Bitcoin to me is the fact that I can save money for a very long time without worrying about inflation.
Secondly, I can send or receive money to and from other countries without issues

You would have made same amount if you had traded stock or other asset aside Bitcoin and you would find more friends outside Bitcoin also. Bitcoin isn't supernatural it is not here to take away all the problems of mankind.
Bitcoin rather is a Crypto-currency asset that can make financial system easier.

But he does not trade stock or other stock, does he?
The opportunities of learning how to trade stock are relatively more difficult and it's relatively too traditional.
I get your point, but he didn't in any way say or mean that Bitcoin is supernatural.
699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really too Expensive? Then Buy Satoshis on: November 19, 2023, 07:01:54 PM
There are around 19+ million BTC that have been mined/circulating so far, however, there are only 13+ million currently available. Where do these 6 million Bitcoins go? There are different reasons, for example, some people lose access to their coins due to lost keys, being incorrectly sent to an incorrect address, or other reasons. Due to these reasons, the access to those Bitcoins is lost, and no other way to recover.

Oh!
Thanks a lot. How stupid of me.
I was actually thinking the coins are somehow misplaced on the network and they disappear, that's why I was wondering how that is possible.
Thanks.
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really too Expensive? Then Buy Satoshis on: November 19, 2023, 12:02:10 PM
This is why it is advisable to get an income before looking for ways to invest. You can't invest if you don't have money. If you do not have money to buy Bitcoin and you're worried about missing out on Bitcoin then you're worrying about the wrong thing to me. It's good that you have a mind and urge to invest, but fear of missing out shouldn't be your motivation.
Focus on getting an income, it is from that income that you can use to buy Bitcoin or Satoshis

1 satoshi may worth up to $0.2 cents or even more, there are only 100 million of satoshis in every 1 bitcoin, and a total/max supply of 2.1 quadrillion satoshis off the total supply of bitcoin which is 21 million (disregarding that around 6 million bitcoins is estimated to be lost, which also means that the satoshis equivalent to this amount of bitcoins are also lost)

I've seen this before and I do not understand it, so I'm going to use this opportunity to ask. How does Bitcoin get lost from the system? I can understand when it's the fiat cash flow and all, but when it's Bitcoin, how does about 6 million Bitcoins disappear from the system?
