681  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Simple mistake that makes you lose everything on: March 08, 2024, 12:55:10 PM
Losing and winning are kind of relative especially when it comes to gambling activities. When we gamble we never know a hundred percent that we would win until we actually do . Same thing also happens when we lose. However for most games and gambling activities, our experience tend to increase when we lose certain times. This is because when we lose we often sought for our mistakes and possibly ways to fix them in other to avoid repeating them in future bets.
The truth is sometimes that stuff you call a little mistake after you have lost the bet, was most times one of your best strategies before and while you were placing the bet. People always view their gambling loss as the cause of a mistake and they never recognize it is a mistake until they have actually lost the bet.
682  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 08, 2024, 12:43:14 PM
Of course gambling addiction is something that both the gambler and people close to him suffer. Sometimes some persons may think that the only one affected by gambling addiction is the addict himself but this is not true due to the fact that the irresponsibility of a gambler indirectly affects people close to him especially family members or close relatives.
Aside from the fact that gambling addiction brings rise to unnecessary loss of funds on the part of the addict, making him unable to do certain important things that require financial solution, it also creates a form of vacuum between the addict and his loved ones. People that we love who are also close to us love to always spend time with us and if unfortunately you are an addict you end up spending more time in gambling activities that you spend with your loved ones which leads to distancing in your relationship with them.

684  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Firmware 2.2.3 Is it secure to update? on: March 08, 2024, 08:16:04 AM
Ledger is no longer a safe hardware wallet ever since they implemented a cloud storage for keys and seed phrase. The idea of hard ware wallet was to store your keys offline without a third party involved, and a cloud storage goes totally against that by storing your keys online.

How many of you update latest Ledger Nano X firmware ver. 2.2.3 ? I have been reading lots of negative comment about 2.2.3 firmware. I heard that new firmware allows to export private key. Is it safe to update now?

What is safe right now is to move your coins from that ledger to a safely air gapped device with an open source wallet like Electrum. Or get a better hard ware wallet like Trezor.

Don't forget to keep your keys safe
685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Anyone +18 Play Gamble? on: March 07, 2024, 08:03:28 PM
The reason 18+ is a common restriction for things like booze , certain drugs, movies and even gambling is because of the fact that it is assumed logically that a person of that age should have attained a level of maturity to be able to manage such things or activities. Sometimes people of and above the 18 year restriction can still be unable to properly manage them and end up abusing them. Teenagers on the other hand easily make wrong decisions because of their emotions and sometimes their present environmental vibe per say.
The truth is when it comes to things like this especially gambling, discipline and maturity has a major role to play so the 18+ restriction is very logical because of the assumption that teenagers and younger ones have to be supervised in such activities. In total it is unethical for someone less than 18 to involve himself in intense gambling activities.
686  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Transaction fee should be "per byte" instead of "per kilobyte". on: March 07, 2024, 07:32:20 PM
Quote
Transaction fee should be "per byte" instead of "per kilobyte".

Who said it isn't?. The fees you pay depend on how much block space your transaction occupies and that block space is measured in sat/ byte.
If you are saying sat / kilobyte, you are still saying same thing as sat/1000 bytes. Byte is just a measurement scale for digital data and sat/byte is used for Blockchain because of the relatively small size of individual transactions compared to the whole block. If you make use of sat/ kilobyte you will end up with decimals which could get messed up and confusing unlike whole numbers you get when you make use of sat/byte. A whole block besides can't exceed 5mb which actually contains 5000000bytes so it's easy to be used as a way of expressing thousands of transactions that occur in a single block.

It's almost similar to why nowadays people just prefer to say 1mBTC instead of saying 0.001BTC. Decimals can be a bit messy sometimes.
687  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum seed words on Trezor Hardware Wallet on: March 07, 2024, 03:18:52 PM
Just like Charles-Tim mentioned, you are okay mate.
As long as it's not a wallet with custom seed and is not a custom lightning wallet it will be compatible.
688  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: March 07, 2024, 03:15:19 PM
I think the type of gambling that has more gambling addicts is the gambling that you get to play with other players and interact with them; mostly, it is card games. It is not only the gambling itself that makes them obsessed; it is the interaction with the players because you get to laugh, play, and talk with them. That's what makes them happy; if it makes you happy, then you will want it more; if you want it more, you will get addicted, and you'll be obsessed.

I think I will have to disagree with such a conclusion. Such conclusions I believe is just a wrong data and collection based on random instances. Now what I mean is probably you have come across a few gambling addicts who spend a great deal of their time on card games and thus you just made a conclusion that majority of gamblers who are addicts play card games which could be very wrong.
Another person out there who has probably met a few gambling addicts also but in his case these addicts were frequent sports gamblers will also wrongly conclude that a majority of gambling addicts are players of sports predictions. To both persons they are right but their Ideas are actually contradicting based on the fact that they just made assumptions with very little data and instances.
689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: March 07, 2024, 03:02:44 PM
In my opinion I think the idea of attributing a certain percentage of gambling addicts to a particular gambling activity is actually relative. Gambling addiction is not as a result of the kind of gambling activity sometimes but rather the gamblers level of responsibility and discipline himself. Of course I am excluding those that engage in illegal gambling activities.
Anyways, if you should pick out a gambling activity and say that this has the highest addicts, I believe it will be kind of awkward due to the fact that you are actually judging based on very little information around you. Such kind of conclusion I think is not necessary except probably a general census was conducted to compile such data which is pretty much rare.
690  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto Scams in Each Market Condition? on: March 07, 2024, 02:54:42 PM
To avoid writing too much unnecessary text  will sum it up as a list.
  • Ponzi investment scheme
  • Airdrop scams
  • Phishing via investment ads
  • Wallet scams like fake auto trading wallets.
Most of them are common but are rampant this period.
Most importantly don't forget to keep your keys safe.
691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Confusion Surrounding Unusual Bitcoin Nonstandard Transactions in Block 831489 on: March 06, 2024, 01:46:08 PM
Unlikely. Normal wallets can't send transactions under the dust limit (1 sat), and 1 sat/vbyte isn't enough to get it confirmed. The receiving address format reminds me of Blockchair's interpretation of OP_RETURN, but those can't send funds anymore. That makes me thing it's Taproot-related, but I don't know the details.
You have a nice point because even if those transactions were broadcasted, nodes will definitely just purge it out making the TXID not found on any explorer.
692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Confusion Surrounding Unusual Bitcoin Nonstandard Transactions in Block 831489 on: March 06, 2024, 01:38:45 PM
I looked up both transactions on the Mempool and obviously both of them are not burning transactions. If they were the recipient address will have multiple inputs but zero output.

I believe the first transaction is either a dust related ( probably a dust attacks on several addresses) or probably something related to starting block rewards.
693  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Prepare Your Children For Bitcoin Investment and Not for Government Jobs. on: March 06, 2024, 09:48:01 AM
I agree with the idea of preparation but when it comes force it's not nice at all. The goal is to teach your kids how money works plus investments and why they are better than regular average jobs. The truth is if you really want to help kids in such aspect, all you have to do is expose them to different opportunities including programming and business. Then you can allow them choose what they enjoy doing then you as a parent can help them perfect it.

Kids excel most when they are not forced but rather enjoy what they do.

695  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: why was bitcoin written in C++ instead of pure C? on: March 06, 2024, 07:48:23 AM
Satoshi basic idea was to create a blockchain network that will make financial interactions easy, and make the process very fast. C++ is the best coding language for such

C++ algorithms can perform at the best level by maximizing resource use and giving the developer control over the CPU and memory use. This algorithm also allows the blockchain to accept or reject blocks, thus eradicating any forks in the blockchain. Using C++, therefore, helps the platform interact with different endpoints at fast rates.

https://cryptoadventure.com/why-satoshi-nakamoto-chose-c-to-program-bitcoin/

Aside from all these you mentioned, Satoshi pick C++ not only because it was the best but it was also the most efficient one for the job at that time.  C++ was picked because many developers at that time knew how to program with it and there were not much alternatives like SOLIDITY and move had not even been invented at that time. Others like Go and rust at that time were not too common.

The block chain is a whole lot of complex cryptographic data so  using C sharp as a base code will bring a lot of bugs because of its inefficiency to carry such heavy program. Plus C sharp doesn't contain certain complex attributes like C++
696  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: why was bitcoin written in C++ instead of pure C? on: March 06, 2024, 06:29:44 AM
C++ is a more complex language more like an advanced c sharp. Plus it has some extra attributes and is kind of more reliable than C sharp.
697  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I don't understand you people... on: March 05, 2024, 08:55:32 PM
What are you trying to explain?
From my understanding of what you wrote, the summary of it all is you always buy some Bitcoin any time there is a dip in price, and of course it is a simple strategy that Hodlers use.

I have also considered a scheme like that only it wasn't quite safe due to the fact it depends on an exchange. Anyways it works like this, anytime there is a significant increase in price change you can swap those coins to a stable altcoin like USDT. and when dips occur you can simply swap back to Bitcoin if the math is correct, in that case you are actually increasing the units of Bitcoin decimals or rather Satoshi's you own.

Anyways buying and storing in a safe wallet aside an exchange is still a better option though.

698  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Strange addresses on: March 05, 2024, 03:56:52 PM
Op I think you are mistaking a public key for an address.
Public keys use kind of random characters compared to Bitcoin addresses that  usually start with;
1 - for legacy addresses
3 - for SEGWIT compatible addresses
bc - for the native SEGWIT addresses.

Public keys on the other hand can start with those characters or even others but the facts is only very old wallets use public keys to receive Bitcoin. The Bitcoin wallet address is gotten from that public key via a special algorithm for wallet address generation. That is partly why HD wallets are possible because multiple addresses can be generated from a single public key.
Here is a link with better explanation
Even when you try generating a custom address you still end up with an address starting with 1, 3 or b.
699  Economy / Speculation / Re: ATH was just broken seconds ago! on: March 05, 2024, 03:46:01 PM
Bitcoin didnt pass its all time high few seconds ago but rather few days ago. The initial Bitcoin ATH was about $62k and Bitcoin surpassed that value about few days ago. With the rate at which Bitcoin is gaining value, it is actually becoming a better investment based on its ease and returns over time.
Also, with the rate at which Bitcoin is striking promising prices I believe it will even achieve an ATH of about $100k.

Probably Satoshi NAKAMOTO  Grin and Gamekyuubi are on beaches chilling on vacation waiting for a better ATH because that's what every hodler likes Grin

the ATH was 69k.
it happened in coinbase though as its just one exchange. now it's becoming obvious that this bull run is driven by the ETF which coinbase is the custodial.
if it crosses this early, we will be seeing the price go 70k sooner without the halving. this is very positive.  100k i think is the the most ATH this year. i will go beyond that as speculated by a lot of traders.

look at the chart you see the ATH.
I just checked I have clarified it thanks.

huh??

ATH was $69k, not $62k. It just passed it when I made this thread.
Really?
I thought it was 62k a long time ago please if you don't mind I would like you to drop your source so I can read a little on it
