682  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 26, 2024, 10:26:58 PM
I agree with you in your text that it's not nice encouraging someone to invest 30% of their salary.
The best amount to invest is one that wouldn't affect you even in losses.
You believe in Bitcoin doesn't mean the person does
Yes it's a good advice to you but wouldn't to the individual
Is not easy seeing red and losses especially when you know nothing about Bitcoin.
I prefer buying via DCA, buying small units at different interval.
You can take it like an expenses in training a kid, a couple of dollar on a consistent level would go a long way.

Quote
So 30% for acculturating now that the price is low is very much ok.
Okay? Do you have idea about the persons expenses
There are many people who can barely get by with their salary and you saying 30% is okay?
This can be said for people whose salary covers their expenses with a good margin
Any dip wouldn't have much effect on them and it would be easier to continue the DCA.
Like I said its not compulsory to invest your salary or savings.  Just invest and DCA any amount you can afford. $5 a week in a year is around $240, in many countries this is something (Note :Profit wasn't calculated).

The one I know I would frown against is saving money idlely in the bank.
Fiat can't survive inflation
Price of goods increases while purchasing value of money reduces
Investing in good projects would prevent the money from been idle.

You sound like one who is just experiencing the market not too long. In essence, you sound like a newbie, and I don't think you understand properly what I said. Making 30% Bitcoin investment off your salary for a month is enough when you have an emergency fund. Besides I didn't say you'll have to use that amount for ever, you invest based on your financial status. And with the way you sound, it looks as though you haven't developed enough trust for Bitcoin, anyway I can't blame you, if only you have don extensive research about Bitcoin, all doubt will be cleared. If you observe closely when I recommend 30% of your income going for Bitcoin accumulation is when you must have secured an emergency fund that can sustain you for at least three month, then you can boldly increase you DCA during dips like this, and should in case it doesn't favour you too well, after the investment you can use from you emergency fund to meet up your needs while you reduce your DCA amount and refill your emergency fund.

In another dimension, there are people whose income are so low that it will take over 50% to as high as 70% of their income to meet their basic needs. These class of people can invest as low as 10% of their income and they will not be breaking any rule. It is always ideal to properly calculate your cashflow to be able properly know what to put into Bitcoin to be able to have the much needed peace for long term investment.

Ambatman, this is exactly what I recommend you do. Trust me of your income is very low, then you must make plans before you end up doing what will back fire. But if you have the opportunity to invest higher amount, don't hesitate because, you'll regret in the future for not buying enough while the price was still fair.  You sounded more like someone who believes in Bitcoin in your other posts, but reading this one, you sound the opposite of what you believed in. However opportunities like this are rear, and since we got to experience this one, the best thing to do is to take advantage of it. Because currently the market look as though it has finished it's dump and it is getting ready for a pump, now might be the least of such price we'll experience before the halving. DCA is the most used strategy, but combining it with buy the dip, your get a flawless strategy.
683  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Make una dey careful with online dating apps on: January 26, 2024, 08:35:10 PM
I fit boldly tell you say 98% of online dating site them and apps wey you go find for the internet na scammers naim full am. That na why when ever them redirect me to all those kind site from my browser I dey always dey frown dey block all their ads. You fit go see girl dey talk with wey be say na Ai you dey talk you for real or e fit be say na man you dey follow gist for 3 weeks. Most of all this yahoo boys na from there some take dey get client. And talking about just meeting person and trying to impress, my brother na yourself you dey do oo. Because even if the girl no turn out to be scam, you go dey on steady billing, and that kind billing na the ones wey fit empty your account if you no wise. No matter the girl wey you date, no allow her see your pocket finish. Some come for money and nothing else.
684  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin price speculation (BTC/NGN) on: January 26, 2024, 08:20:56 PM
this is not even about the bitcoin price now that we are in, the market is getting worse day by day through the effect of what the economy condition of the country is, you can know this about the exchange rate of dollars to naira, as at today, you will get it done at the rate of #1,407 to #1,430 per 1USD, what are we to say concerning this and the affairs of the country economy, we cant be having it going like this, this isn't the expected change we are all waiting for.

If you have read my post, you'll understand that I am in the same page with you guys, I shared my experience on the change in price of things in the market due to the recent increase in dollar. I posted the Bitcoin price because  for long we haven't updated the price movement of bit oin here in this speculation thread. If proper care is not taken, the exchange rate of dollar to naira might hit #1500 before the end of next month, and that will just make the cost of living to increase drastically while those earning in naira will eventually feel the heat. This is just too much, within how many months the dollar to naira exchange has increased with more than #500, this is entirely not what we expected from the office of our new government.

Earlier this morning, I saw a post on social media talking about EFCC agreement with BDCs to spoil black market rate due to the increase in dollar. Please how true is this?
So we know what to expect in the next few days or weeks.  Besides we have upto 5687 licensed BDCs by the CBN so how are they gonna convince all 5687 to reduce the rate of exchange?
685  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 26, 2024, 07:55:13 PM
I don't think is nice encouraging someone to invest on Bitcoin using his 30% of salary to invest on Bitcoin because there is every possibility that the investor could ran into trouble if the reserve fund is not enough to sustain him till he receives his next salary, so perhaps in as much as is advisable to take advantage of the Bitcoin price right now but shouldn't get overwhelmed by investing aggressively because is better to invest with the money we can easily afford without being tampered than investing with all the money we have and within a short while you end up selling it do to the lact of money to take care of other needs, however is only those that have structured one of there portfolio for Lump suming  I could easily advise to take advantage of the market because they have already taken all the measures before now.

Roseline492 I don't think you understand properly the concept of emergency fund. It's possible the person might have been into accumulate before now, and any one who understands emergency fund knows that, they should keep enough fund that can sustain them for like 3 to four months even without their normal salary. Meaning even while using DCA strategy you are keep aside some extra for emergency funds, and with time that might help you not to tamper with your holdings. So 30% for acculturating now that the price is low is very much ok. Except the person might have accumulated enough that he might have reason to slow down a bit. But if you are not satisfied with your holding and you want to be aggressive in the dump in price, it a good idea you go on.

Let's just take for example that someone is earning $5000 a month. And he has been using 5% for DCA every week while we kept $1000 as emergency fund for the month. If such person has been into holding for upto 15months which means he must have achieve $15k as his emergency fund, there is a need for such person to add the money for his emergency fund to his DCA  making it 10% of his income every week . That is, for 2 year he has accumulated $33k worth of BTC, and if the price dips like now, he might necessary increase his DCA accumulation to 30% which is about $6k a month. Such person could now use from his emergency fund for the month, and after the dip, he returns back to the 5% weekly until he might have refilled his emergency fund before he goes to 10% weekly.

I assure you, some one with this strategy doesn't have to worry much while he life activities keeps on going smoothly.
686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: cashout or wait till the end? on: January 26, 2024, 11:12:21 AM
Cashing out have never been my thing, not until I got a terrible experience a few months back when I place a bet, and I got a very good amount as cash out, though it was the last game remaining, and the team i gave winning are already win 2-0, during the cause of the game, when my team is leading 2-0, they gave me like 95% cash out of the total win, so I refuse to cash out believing that the game is over, 89 minutes of play it was still 2-0, 90+1 the opposition scores one, 9+4 they got their  equalizer, and it ended like that, which made me lose everything, since them, even the slitest cash out I will take, i no longer take chances.

To me, I prefer cashing out than let the bet run to the end beside the cash out  amount is always bigger than the amount you used in making your stake. Though there are some situations whereby after cashing out the bet play to your prediction and you might have won bigger if you exercise more patient, and this is the more reason some person hate cash out because the big chance they got have been missed due to lack of confidence. Knowing that gambling I'd entirely about luck and just small percentage of your ability in predictions, I will cash out if I have to.
687  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin price speculation (BTC/NGN) on: January 26, 2024, 10:09:02 AM
The increase not dollar in the country is getting out of hand. And some people think that when dollar increase their hodling will also increased but that might be correct but they have forgotten that $1 which is equivalent to #1400 now is also equal to what you buy as well and if you calculate very well you will discovered that what you earn and the increase in dollar, you are di one who loss out because expenses will eat up your funds..so instead let's think how dollar can reduce to the normal price again. If dollar is high, then you hodling of Bitcoin is always affect because you are not using Bitcoin to buy food or clothes but the fiat currency and you must change your Bitcoin to fiat so what is the need of advocating for the increase in dollar.

And we should not forget that it's not only us in the country but poor people are also there. Do you think of them as well?

Rightly said, yesterday I say make I enter market to buy somekind things for my self. Omor wattin I eye see just trouble my heart, something of N6k in the month of December now Dem say na N13k when I waka like 5 place  and the price just dey stagnant na for there I take know say these people no dey play at all. So as dollar dey increase e dey affect us individually nobody go fit escape.

Omor the price of Bitcoin just dey shock everybody, because the price predictions and expectations don too many for the price to dip like this. Anyway we don get small hit why the price dey dump. Grayscale selling that huge amount of Bitcoin just be like price manipulation. But this na opportunity to buy more.

688  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The fall of shitcoin/altcoin, the rise of bitcoin on: January 26, 2024, 09:31:16 AM
Just as the name implies "shitcoins" they have no volatility at all as all we experience from this shitcoins is just pump and dump as the people that introduces this shitcoins knows perfectly well that those coins can survive the crypto market where there are more volatile cryptos like Bitcoins that has higher volatility and everyone's interest is mostly on Bitcoin so definitely, as Bitcoin surfaces all other coins tends to fall and vanish in other to make way for Bitcoin to still maintain it's high profile among other cryptocurrencies.

What increases Bitcoin adoption the most is it's sustainability because Bitcoin over the years, has stood out among other cryptos thereby making it future to be guaranteed on like some shitcoins that rises as a result of hype and later on perishes and any investor holding such a coin will definitely run into losses.

Guy e be like say you dey mistake the definition of Bitcoin and shitcoin, before I clear you for that part, I go like make you know wattin shitcoin be. Shitcoin na coin wey be say dem create for the market wey come get small value come go back down, or coin wey since them create am e go gree get value at all, or you fit call all those scam project shitcoins. Many of those meme coins wey go pump until Dem go come start to dey dump until Dem mo get value again, we dey call those type shitcoins. And besides most of those shitcoins Dem volatile pass Bitcoin by far, in fact Bitcoin no even volatile reach some altcoins for the crypto network. If you observe closely when the market dey experience some pump, you go see say while Bitcoin dey like 6%increase some coins dey count 23% and when the market dey dump na so them dey use that same energy wey Dem use take pump take dump.  And coin like that nor dey too last for market before you go know them don turn shitcoin.

More years to come, altcoins no go fit take the place of Bitcoin for the crypto network. Some of them sef go fall after the halving event as the dump in price go take place after the halving some of those coin no go fit again their sef and na so them go just die like that, beside Bitcoin na long term while some of those coins na just for short period , maybe for just 1 month or 3 before them lost for the market. So una wey dey buy altcoin make una dey careful not to go buy shitcoin wey don already dey go down thinking say e go rise up one day.
689  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Two things I (we) noticed in the local board on: January 26, 2024, 07:22:21 AM
Currently like this our boss them don dey take action move off topic threads to off topic board, and if them do you that kind thing, you supposed dey disappointed at your self. So make we try increase quality post and Bitcoin discussion for this board. Newbies una see say the merit distribution no dey flow well, and that na because na only one merit source wey we get for this local board. If to say we get reach 3 or 2 e for dey better, but as e don be, our boss them still go apply to become merit source. But Theymos never still accept am, and that fit be because of say e dey see shitpost them for the board, meanwhile we dey tell am say many quality dey wey no get merit.

So no be say we dey try to dey rude or we just feel like to wicked, the benefit of wattin we dey do na everybody go enjoy, by the time we get extra merit source we all go dey get merit for our quality post wey we sit down construct of more than 20min. So make una try una best to keep the forum clean from shitpost abeg.

Tankz,u tok wella, even miself mek de mistek bcs I no undastan de forum then,I tank u for de brodaly advice.Mi I be newbie mek Una also give mi som help in al direction dat will  mek mi grow.

As newbie wey you be, the advise wey I get to give you na be say, make you do enough reading rather than postings. You fit dey post one or two, but make your major work for now be reading, try they read quality informative threads especially the ones talking about Bitcoin, you go see say in no time you go get quality knowledge to fit dey contribute and that go eventually give you merit.

Almost everybody start from newbie, na only few person wey as Dem come the forum Dem don already get knowledge about Bitcoin, so their post from day one dey make sense with quality. But me I start with zero knowledge but I come go find material online dey read, plus the one wey I see for this forum. Before you know I don dey get small knowledge wey I take dey contribute for as comments. And one thing na be say make you make more of comment than posting thread. From Commenting on other people thread e go help you learn to build constructive post.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investing altcoins now or during halving? on: January 25, 2024, 07:53:45 PM
I just think for those reasons that is it wise decision to invest Altcoins before Bitcoin Halving because many listed of coingecko Altcoins are died and the total spoil Altcoins amount are make investors confused .Here is the prove and recent speculation.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5482067.msg63519159#msg63519159

For sure, anything that has to do with crypto investment has to happen now, before the halving if not you might end up having regrets. Now the entire market is experiencing a dump in price which might be due to the selling of over 16k Bitcoin by grayscale. Those who are not newbie will definitely see this as opportunity to buy more cc oins at cheaper rate before this might be the lowest dip before the halving. Within this period of the dip I have used the opportunity well by accumulating more Bitcoin I to my portfolio.
692  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Making informed financial decisions on: January 25, 2024, 07:43:25 PM
Normally anyone new into the crypto network would like to use lump sum to accumulate Bitcoin or other crypto. But when you learn of other strategies, you'll find out that there are some which are even better than just lump sum. Take for example, using the DCA( Dollar cost Averaging) which simple allows you to make little deposit to your comfort without affecting your other financial activities. Or you might even consider DCA combined with buy the dip, or even Lump sum and buy the dip. You can go as far as combining two strategies to form a new one that might suite you, based on your financial abilities.
693  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Newbies make una stop those off topic posts ASAP on: January 25, 2024, 07:33:19 PM
E be like say I don dey see some moved topics, great action. Na like this small small we go take dey clean the local board from original off topic post. Any post wey you know say off topic well well, abeg una fit even report am to the moderator make e for move am to off topic. But this action go really work faster when the account wey dey report get reputation. That is, if na higher rank the moderator go reason am pass when na just newbie, jr member or member rank. Let's work hand in hand to help our local board.
694  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is Investing into crypto really safe? on: January 25, 2024, 07:03:25 PM
That's just the fact here, newbie or not can experience this hack situation, talking about the hack no doubt that the target are meant for those who have accumulated huge amount over the years, are you trying to tell me that everyone who accumulated such bitcoin have fallen victim to this hack?, that's impossible cause they're safety measure to follow and this measure don't guarantee 100% but it's best to follow those measure. When I mean newbies I'm actually referring to investors who don't have any idea about bitcoin safety measure and I made reference of this forum, the forum can be of help just like the way you mentioned Charles Tim and the thread he created, seeing all this you'll get enlighten gradually except you're not ready to learn.
Concerning the scam, if I may ask have you ever experience such or your close friend, I believe if this method you mentioned is so smart everyone would have fallen victim, when dealing with crypto investment you need to be smart and alert cause we are actually talking about money. Nobody is above the scam and hack we hear everyday so you should not get me wrong.

Don't get me wrong, the fact that you haven't heard any talk about being scammed those mean they have experience it, besides the scam I mentioned earlier is one binance exchange, and not everyone uses binance exchange here. We were told not to keep our coins in exchanges so we only trade but not keep to keep our assets there for long.and beside that, I believe we Nigerian are very intelligent enough to fall for some scams that even an advanced outside man can't resist falling for. Some time I wonder if those who fall for some certain scam are so dumb enough to be blinded with enticing words.
695  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 25, 2024, 06:50:49 PM
Grayscale Bitcoin "Trust" is still holding, NOT HODLing, more than 500,000 Bitcoin and they have been selling more aggressively since January 12.
https://bitcointreasuries.net/entities/50
I believe if the selling contintues, and the market panics, that might cause a pre-halving DIP, no?

As plebs what do we do in this kind of situation? I can't tell you what to do with your money, but if you ask me it's = Buy the DIP, and HODL. Cool

You are not offering specifics.

We already have a dip.  So are you saying buy now or wait for more dip?
From my understanding,  he is suggesting that there will be more dips before the halving as Grayscale continues to sell their Bitcoin. I understand his points because if they continue to sell, it's possible they may trigger some form of panic across board and weak hands will start dumping massively.

I'm suspecting that this may be classical market manipulation that is being done now to collect Bitcoin from the hands of weak hands and ordinary people to the institutions. For the ETF not to cause a new ATH, it is looking like the big players are out to control the price to align with what they want.

Whatever be the case, I'm not bordered because lower prices favour me more because I'm still at the accumulation stage in my Bitcoin journey. So it will enable me to collect more Bitcoin even at lower prices.

Absolutely correct mate, they are actually trying to manipulate the market by selling very large amount of Bitcoin out. As of yesterday, they sold not less than 16,450BTC worth $656M. I don't think there is another reason that might justify this action if not to create panic in the market and and newbies who don't know what Bitcoin is would start selling their coins instead of buying as the price decreases.

Img source

Anyway, these changes and price dump are only opportunity for real Bitcoin enthusiast, but those new or without proper knowledge of what Bitcoin is might sell their asset.

Because they wait for another dip after getting one.

Those who follow DCA and accumulation bitcoin at the moment they can utilize the advantage of the dip Because they are growing their bitcoin portfolio by buying more bitcoins at low prices.

I saw a post recently were a user is expecting more dip before he will buy. I don't know where they are getting that courage from, it seems the social Media is now winning some investors into believe their predictions that are created by human which are prone to error. Predictions cannot be 100% accurate all the time, that is why we need to be careful what we receive from the Media and social gathering. Some persons who seem friendly are big haters of Bitcoin.
696  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is Investing into crypto really safe? on: January 25, 2024, 05:40:41 PM

The only problem people face holding some altcoin is because of greed, taking advantage of the market is never a bad idea rather they believe the coin will experience a great and high potential, some coins are for short term investment not long term investment, if talking about long term investment you should consider bitcoin investment first.
Talking about the scam now, I don't think people still fall for their silly games and lie except the person don't know what to do and mostly newbies face this challenges of scam and hack cause they're not enlighten about bitcoin, people like this have enough chance to learn like e.g forums like this will always enlighten newbies about investing.

Newbies are not the only one who fall for those scams or hacks, especially hacks. Hackers don't plan on hacking a newbie, but rather they aim higher at those who have accumulated more coins over the years. That is, they target exchanges and other businesses. Just like one of the post boss Charles Tim posted, talking about a scam in binance  exchange. Even an experienced user could fall for that scam. The scam is all about the scammer generating a Bitcoin address that look almost like your own, and keep it in a position were you can easily pick it up and use it thinking it's urs. And if you are not careful you might accidentally credit the scammer thinking it's your own address.

Utopia team has done a great job, what I like most about the application is that, they offer AI technology in which their users can ask any question and will immediately get response. Another feature of the android application that I like is the security and privacy the app offers. Normally it is easier for a hacker/scammer to crack your passwords, but when it comes to using advance security like seed phrase, the possibility you'll can be cracked is very minimal. I give their security a thumbs up. If you admire anonymity then, utopia is ok for you.
698  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The Kind of Topics to be Posted in Naija Local Forum on: January 25, 2024, 02:44:40 PM
Just as boss Charles-Tim don talk, based on say we never get child's board naim make off topics them still they full this part of the local board, but by the time wey Dem don give us our own moderator we go separate am then, creat board specially for off topic. But for now, newbies are bound to make mistakes, even me sef start with mistake, but to remain for that mistake say you no wan gree learn or take other people advise na there e take bad so. Highest off topic wey supposed dey for one page naim be just 1, then make the rest of the thread then get relevant information wey we dey pass, or Bitcoin related discussion. But currently like this if we observe the local board, you go see say the off topics for this first page sef many die. Na why we dey complain say make the give newbies proper oriented before them dey come here come post anything wey Dem see for social media or news.

E get the way you go structure off topic come put Bitcoin inside, e go come make sense and the thread go come dey very interactive. This forum post them na sense you go use, and from there you fit by God's grace get merit for that post. I believe one of the things wey dey affect newbies na be say, them dey feel like say topics don finish, but na for still here naim person go bring out very fresh and innovative work come wey get educative and good information for inside.  Motivational speakers say na only you fit carry your hand limit yourself and that na true. If you think critically outside the box, you must definitely come out with good solution.

So newbies abeg make una try, e no easy to come up with genuine quality post but nothing is too impossible.

For me na Bitcoin I go recommend for per wey wan invest that kind of amount oo, because if that person fit get patience keep em investment for only two years sef e go hit better profit. Through the price dey volatile and we no go fit give 100% predictions accurately but make we get that believe say e go go up due to the law of demand and supply. Even minus the halving bull run sef, Bitcoin naim be still th best wey I fit recommend give anybody. Especially now wey the price don go down small naim be the best time to buy so that any small increase go reflect for your portfolio.
700  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is Investing into crypto really safe? on: January 25, 2024, 07:00:09 AM
One can minimize his/her risk when investing in cryptocurrency if you learn all it takes to be an investor. Most of the guru in this space so cash out heavily because they know when to opt in and opt out. This doesn't means they don't lose money at all in the space but theirs is always minimal.

All I talked about is the scams and hacks aspect of cryptocurrency, I never got the opportunity to mention the volatility of the market. Indeed one can minimize it's risk of losing in the market first by learning and studying the market, study a coin before you buy, watch the market behavior of the coin, don't be too greedy to take little profits. These tips I just mentioned doesn't apply for Bitcoin, because investment doesn't require you to become a trader. You can buy Bitcoin and keep the investment for years without worrying about the price movement, and you'll still reap your profit. But in altcoins/ shitcoins, you have to keep track of the market to sell your profit before the coin start experiencing losses.
