681  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin having effect on the ongoing war on: April 21, 2023, 11:07:07 AM
But who knows, the source is inside Russia so might be true that they are just hiding on the reasons that they have abundance of electricity, on the other hand they want Bitcoin mining or Bitcoin per se, to go against the sanctions by the West. So still a win-win for them to go and become the second biggest mining country.
Many people in the financial system in Russia consider bitcoin to be a pyramid scheme. You can argue a lot on this topic, but a large number of bitcoins have already been mined. If Russia invests huge amounts of money in the construction of mining centers, then the US could at any moment ban bitcoin and make Russia's investment in mining useless. There are a lot of natural resources in Russia, and it is better for the government to develop more promising areas rather than bitcoin mining.

Do you have any proof for your "US can easily go ahead and ban Bitcoin" claims?
First of all we all know it's technically not easy, if even possible at all. Yes, they can crack down on legal exchanges and spread more FUD and make things difficult for any busninesses operating with Bitcoin. But WITHIN the US only.
Given Bitcoin's current level of adoption, I doubt this is something the US wants to try. It would just create a huge exodus of crypto-companies towards other, more Bitcoin-friendly countries and lower the US' competitiveness in that field.

683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A service to find the relation between two addresses on: April 21, 2023, 06:50:40 AM
I am looking for a service that can help me map out the relationship between two addresses. Essentially, a tool that can inform me if there is any connection or correlation between the two addresses that I provide. Does anyone know of any services that offer this functionality or something similar?
Crystal has a visualization feature that's similar to what you're trying to build: Here's an imperfect example [none of the addresses are mine (I took them from one of the recently mined blocks)]
- It has nice features (e.g. moving the pieces around), but if you try to go too deep (e.g. adding many input/output addresses), their server will return an error!
Another amazing resource. Been playing around with it a little bit, working fine so far, even though I sometimes it quickly goes to the "oops something went wrong" page.
Hope they keep improving it. - In general that's exactly how I would imagine a tx-graph with some hand-picked transactions should look like.

Could this be a security issue
I perfectly understand your concern!
This is the same trust issue we all are facing daily with our IoT devices (printers, IP cam, smart devices, etc). Unfortunately we can only trust the manufacturers.
Connecting the device to your "guest" network (if available) can make you fell more comfortable.
In any case, keeping your network and your devices/computers updated and secure is the best thing you can do. This regardless of this ticker, especially if you are in the crypto-space. In this case an hardware wallet should be a "must have".
Additionally, if you are a tech guy and you want inspect the generated network traffic you can see that the device only connects to the Binance and Coingeko servers. No other network connections will ever be open.

Price is probably fair given this is very niche, but seems steep when compared to for example an usb-energy-consumption reader from amazon (with a similar display).
Yep, I know it is not cheap, but please consider that it is not an industrial/mass-produced device. Every device takes more than 3 hours of continuous printing.
Additionally shipping and taxes are already included on the price, so the final gain is quite low.

Maybe try offering a 10% discount for bitcointalk-users with a promo code?
This is a really nice idea, but instead of a promo code I just release a referral program that can allow anyone to use an LNURL to automatically receive a 10% of the total for every purchase done on the following 24 hours.
For example, if someone access the site with the following URL and purchase some devices (within 24 hours) the system will send the 10% of the total in BTCitcoin to the ref address indicated in the url:
https://www.cryptogadgets.net?ref=lnurl1dp68gurn8ghj7ampd3kx2ar0veekzar0wd5xjtnrdakj7tnhv4kxctttdehhwm30d3h82unvwqhkyctwdejkgar4wf6xcefkxuh2lnk3

This can automatically become a sort of cashback for anyone who knows this trick (currently only you at bitcointalk Wink )

Hello and thanks for replying to each of my points.
The referral idea is good and seems well implemented.

Regarding price, here are my thoughts:
You are currently in a strange territory; it's neither a cheap device that anyone would just buy for fun easily, unless they don't care about expenses at all, nor is it a really fancy high-value(looking) product. If you continue using the plastic look, personally I think it must be considerably cheaper. Or you try and really improve to something more fancy and you can even up the price to 99 USD and maybe beyond. That could work if the crypto logos are metal or have any other high value components. Just my 2 sats.  GL!
685  Local / Presse / Re: Buch: Ijoma Mangold - Die Orange Pille on: April 21, 2023, 06:33:27 AM

686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your tips and tricks to orange pill your family and friends on: April 21, 2023, 06:30:49 AM
It's the same with most things in life: You can't force anyone to
- a more healthy lifestyle
- a more healthy relationship
- a new path for monetary success
or anything else that needs a change in perspective from their current status quo.
Bitcoin in that regard is above average challanging - a completely new *THING* that's usually way out of scope of comprehension for the average civilian without any prior knowledge on the topic.  Wink
The only way is to sometimes mention an interesting fact about Bitcoin every once in a while - maybe something sticks and makes them curious enough to put in the time and energy to start investigating by themself. Maybe. Pobably not, though.

My experience is, that many people prefere to hold on to their narrow believe-system even though evidence is getting stronger and stronger, that they might be in the wrong. So I would avoid putting in too much energy.
In any case, I love to recommend Andreas Antonopoulos videos: https://www.youtube.com/@aantonop/videos
687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Collection Thread] Series and films in which Bitcoin (or Altcoins) appear on: April 21, 2023, 06:21:48 AM
I got something to add to the list:

Netflix series: Beef

Quite early on, one of the main characters is accessing his brother's phone and sees he invested in some crypto including Bitcoin.
SPOILER:
He borrows money (around $20k) and invests it all in Bitcoin. Later on we see BTC dropping by more than 50% and our main guy losing most of his investment.
SPOILER END

In The Simpsons, episode 18 of season 32 titled “Burguer Kings”, we can see an interesting quick visual joke on the bottom of the screen: the price of Bitcoin will be “infinite”. Will this new Simpsons prediction be as accurate as the others?  Wink

https://www.ibtimes.com/simpsons-predicts-future-price-bitcoin-will-it-be-accurate-3180756

Nice catch. Here it is:

This is similar to what Saylor said: "It's going up forever, Laura."

It basically makes sense. Bitcoin is a scarce and valuable asset, priced in fiat, which loses purchasing power over time. Double whammy.

Even though over half a year old already, that's an amazing find - new to me. Love it. Smiley

Well, thanks for holding this auction on his behalf. Is there some sort of portfolio or anything like that with his previous works (outside crypto)? I checked the wiki, there are no dates to his work, is it all very recent - if not was it published outside the forum before?

689  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Titan Mint Coins- Serious Issue- Titan Mint Bitcoin Coins ***NEW UPDATES*** on: April 21, 2023, 06:06:56 AM

I hate to say this because Tim Fillmore is a scumbag fuck, but that’s a beautiful coin (though Tim didn’t design it).

First off, crack and peel asap. Leave hologram intact as best as possible. It would likely be worth grading to increase premium. ICG would be your go to and if you want to spend the extra time and money PCGS might be willing to grade it after ICG (if you’re not familiar PCGS is the standard for coin grading globally, so it would be worth more in it’s slab than ICG..by how much, who knows). Hell maybe they’d grade it without ICG doing so first. It’s a murky area right now w PCGS.

I’d say it’s probably worth $500-1000 above spot value. It’s impossible to say though. Maybe just post a “WTS” thread and ask for offers and see what you get or run an auction and make the minimum first bid the lowest amount you’d be willing to sell it for.

Lastly, happy 4/20 back at ya Smiley
Indeed, what a waste of a beautiful collectible. Glad to know that Tim-guy didn't create the design himself. To me this makes it easier for the coin to keep a higher collectors value in itself.

A little OT, but since you mentioned it, please let me know if I got this right: So PCGS doesn't grade some crypto coins UNLESS they were already graded (by ICG)?

690  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [SALE] 1HoDLCLUB 1mBTC coin "Fuck Fiat Money" Collection on: April 20, 2023, 07:12:19 AM
These are exceptional, high quality items that graded very well- if you will, some perfect below.  If you haven't gotten one yet, I would recommend doing so before they are sold out.  Damn shame I'm not a good picture taker but MS70s speak for themselves.

WOW! I hadn't thought about sending them into grading. Until now. Amazing grades, congrats 2stout.
Additionally they are a great conversation starter (among Euro-folks at least) - field tested recently. Smiley

We already have https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1650522.0 and it's still fairly recently active, so this topic is somewhat redundant.  I'll be continuing to use that one if I spot any future references.

That is indeed a great reference, for some reason it didn't pop up when I was doing a quick search.
Thanks for pointing it out and indeed no reason to continue this thread, I am gonna close it down.

694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin in movies on: April 19, 2023, 11:55:35 AM
Over the years, Bitcoin (and crypto) has caused some massive headlines, mostly about huge scams (Bitconneeeeeect, Onecoin, some NFT-shit) and failing exchanges (Mt Gox, FTX...). (ofc that's because of the nature of news outlets where sensationalism helps to generate clicks/views).
I was wondering what topics have already occured in movies or series?
Would like to compile a list of movies featuring crypto and more specific Bitcoin as part of their plot.

Most prominent that comes to mind for me is the series Mr. Robot.

I feel there must be (much) more and also think some of these topics/themes have the potential to be the foundation for massive blockbuster movies.

So please go ahead and post any kind of movie or series that uses crypto or Bitcoin as an important part for their storyline.
Also curious about upcoming movies if you have any insights on these.

Very nice, did you get all 69s? I was expecting them to grade well, as a lay person they already seem like great quality in- and out. Happy to see it reflect in the gradings as well.
Thinking about adding on another set, let's see how end of the months looks like financially for me, lol.
696  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] The ORIGINAL Crypto Greeting Cards WAREHOUSE CLEAR-OUT on: April 19, 2023, 04:36:40 AM
I cannot bid higher but would like to offer to buy one of each variation from whoever wins.

No worries. Let's see how this auction goes first.
If I win I'll probably make some individual cards available for direct purchase and first come first serve, so you are on top of that list so far.
Will sort through this massive pile of cards, though. Might take a little. Wink
697  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Physical crypto rounds as a local currency. on: April 19, 2023, 04:25:46 AM
That's a fun story and I like that light-hearted approach to barter using some smaller-denomination collectibles.
Yes, it would be awesome to see things like that happening more often, but let's be realistic, trading silver or gold coins for some goods still seems less complicated and we don't really see that happening ever, too.
Thanks for sharing this cute little adventure, though. Smiley

This is (so far) German only, but interestingly enough this new book is called "The orange pill".
You can read more info in the local board here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5445173.0

Short info on the author Ijoma Mangold: He can be counted towards the German intellectual elite and is a well known book critic an author. I've personally enjoyed listening to his insights and thoughts about various topics and book releases. Was very suprised to see him release something about Bitcoin.

So to any German-speaking people, might be a cool idea to gift this book. (haven't read it myself so far but am planning to do so)

Smiley
