6801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin recovery on: April 12, 2016, 08:07:17 PM
So I had 3 wallets all linked together. But lost them. My oldroomate tossed my paper with the seads. I've got the password to one and amounts and old bitcoin addresses that sent to it as we'll as a couple that got mony Sent from it. Is there anyway to talk to an admin and work on recovery that way?
There is no "admin" of Bitcoin.

What wallet are you using?

Do you have your wallet files? If you do, the best you can do is to try to think of what your other passwords could possibly be. Whatever you think of, make sure you write it down so that you don't forget it. Then you can try recovering it by brute forcing the passwords.

If you do not have the wallet files, then nothing can be done about this as your private keys are lost.
6802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: linux bitcoind and bitcoind -daemon on: April 12, 2016, 02:17:38 AM
sorry for this noob question.

1. When running bitcoind on Linux. what is the difference between just "bitcoind" and "bitcoind -daemon"
AFAIK, there is no difference.

2. I try just "bitcoind" and it seems it load forever and I dunno whether it runs or not. so I press Ctrl + C to stop it.
does it stay in the background?
That is actually normal, to not see any output when running bitcoind. In fact, there should be absolutely no output from the bitcoind whatsoever, and if there is, something wrong happened. Just leave it running and open another terminal and use bitcoin-cli to send commands to the bitcoind. If it is still starting, you will get an error about it still starting up or verifying blocks. It is ready when you are actually getting the right output for your commands.
6803  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: super noob here. why am i not seeing the transfer? on: April 11, 2016, 07:47:12 PM
i'm not seeing it on the site
Then that is a service problem and you should contact the service about it.
6804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: super noob here. why am i not seeing the transfer? on: April 11, 2016, 07:05:52 PM
What is the transaction id of your transaction?
6805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Signatures with Repeated Nonces. on: April 11, 2016, 06:54:22 PM
Please answer my 3rd question
3.Say i send a tx worth 2 Bitcoins from my wallet and it's get confirmed. Now how can i be sure that this tx does not repeated R value that can later leak my private key or not?
i mean say i send 3 tx from 1 address now how do i manually check if they have same r value or not for security?
To manually check the r values, find the input script of a transaction and then look at the signatures. This site: https://crypto.stackexchange.com/questions/1795/how-can-i-convert-a-der-ecdsa-signature-to-asn-1?answertab=votes#tab-top gives a break down of the bytes in the signature so you can use that to find where the r value is and compare that to the r value of another signature. In order for the r's to be the same, they need to actually be identical, not just similar.
6806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Signatures with Repeated Nonces. on: April 11, 2016, 02:10:40 PM

Please Just tell me if electrum is safe? If i just use 2 electrum wallets one for signing transactions on offline PC and one for broadcasting it on online PC and i will only use 1 address not multiple address. Will i be safe in this case?No one can access my private key unless it gets stolen.Right?

Yes that is safe.
6807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Signatures with Repeated Nonces. on: April 11, 2016, 11:36:26 AM
Why the hell someone don't explain in details how to avoid such problems?
Can't i even spend in small amounts using my cold storage wallet? Angry
It's my wallet i do whatever i want with it . It's upto me if i want to use a single address or multiple addresses . What's the problem with a single address? I use a single address for sending and receiving funds. How can my wallet be hacked? It's been 7 years since bitcoin developed and still problems like this occurs now and then? why? and people like OP just setup bots to steal people's bitcoin :/
Tell me anyone i want to use electrum and only 1 address. Can the OP hack my address and private key?
This is what you do. Don't use wallets that no one has ever heard of. Use the wallets listed here https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet and you will be safe because to get listed there, those wallets had to meet very specific criteria which includes safety against this attack. That is all you need to do.
6808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Signatures with Repeated Nonces. on: April 11, 2016, 02:45:22 AM
Ok but how to know if any particular transaction is safe?
Because the software that produced it is known to produce safe r values because of the way that it generates those values.

i mean how to know on blockchain if particular transaction can be used to find its private key? If the two inputs in tx are slightly equal at the start and end does that mean they have identical r value?
Not slightly equal, but the r values in the signature have be exactly equal. If you look on a block explorer and look at the inputs, the first several bytes (probably 30 something bytes, which is 60 something characters) have to be exactly equal for the r values to be equal (because those bytes are the r values)

And if i use paper wallet that has one address and only receive bitcoins and never send then it's safe right to reuse that address for receiving purposes?
yes.

The burn address for which the XBV to be burned will be sent to is xe2EibataUsN8Vop3nV7JhHUWTRgjsstjs.

This address is a p2sh address with a redeemscript of
Code:
OP_2 OP_3 OP_EQUAL
which is an unspendable script because 2 does not equal 3 and thus will always fail.
In hex this is
Code:
525387
Anyone can verify this with the command
Code:
decodescript 525387
in the command console.
6810  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Samourai Wallet mobile app, HD wallet, stealth, remote delete on: April 10, 2016, 11:31:13 PM
Samourai Wallet, currently on Android is great for privacy advocates.
Not really. See https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/447s7c/samourai_is_the_most_private_and_anonymous/. It sends all of the users data to bc.i.

hmm , ok, well now this is confusing ;\
so it's one thing to say that we give you our btc as a donation and get a token (woot?) as replacement
the newbie account, and asking for it as a donation, why would anybody in their right mind send you their btc?
for a worthless token anyone can make in five mins?
and you knightdk, why would you put yourself involved in this shit?
Cause I get fees  Grin

how easy would it be for this newbie dev to take this btc
Not very. He will be sending me the XBV to be distributed and I will be distributing that before I send him the btc.

hell we couldnt even bitch, it's worded as DONATIONS
what incentive is there for you? seems alot of risk...
or is this dev your alt account?
cause no reputable member would escrow this unless they were involved imo
Nope. He is not my alt.

6813  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:42:40 PM
Actually, it seems that it keeps crashing every few minutes. The Armory program, that is.
Can you post the log files?
6814  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:31:21 PM
I did as you said, and Armory still said the same thing, only this time it had a "Go Online!" button next to it. When I clicked this button, nothing happened. Some additional information that might be helpful is: I'm running Windows 10 and the specified datadir is K:\Bitcoin\Bitcoin
Oh, I forgot something. You need to then do the same thing to the shortcut for armory when you do this except instead of the option being --datadir, you do
Code:
 --satoshi-datadir=<path to datadir>
6815  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:16:53 PM
I forgot to add, that when I change the home directory and restart Armory, it says it is offline.
Try starting bitcoin core manually. Uncheck the option to allow armory to start up Bitcoin core automatically then start Bitcon Core manually. To start it manually with the data directory in another place, right click the shortcut to start Bitcoin Core and click Properties. Then in the textbox next to "Target" add to the end of the stuff in there
Code:
 --datadir=<path to datadir>
where <path to datadir> is the path to the location you want the data directory to be. Then click OK and run the program from that shortcut.
6816  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:01:06 PM
So, the other day, I was downloading the Blockchain via Armory and when it stopped, I found out that it was downloading to my appdata folder on my main hard drive and it had filled up. How can I change the location of the blockchain to another drive?
If you go into settings, you can change the data directory of bitcoind and it will download the blocks to that other location.
6817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: is this fake transaction?Looking for quick help ! on: April 10, 2016, 03:21:06 PM
I sold some mrai coins and buyer paid me . but i was about to sell more but when i look at block explore nothing showing on my balance. can you check guy is this fake transaction or not? when i search hash on blockchain its showing

Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: The transaction is not final

Tx: https://blockchain.info/tx/91251ef42979ce417ca009120a6ccbad591c1b7d2c4bd074a299367edaac314d
There is no such thing as a "fake transaction". What happened is that the transaction is not final, meaning the nsequence field of an input is not 0xffffffff. This means that the transaction opts-into RBF so it could be replaced while the transaction is unconfirmed. The best thing for you to do is to wait for it to receive one confirmation before continuing to do anything else with this person.
6818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of Bitcoin security and all encryption as we know it? on: April 10, 2016, 02:05:24 AM
This has already been discussed for a while and many many times here. I'll sum up why we don't have to worry too much and how quantum computers won't be the end of the world for Bitcoin.

First of all, there are no known quantum computer algorithms which can make hashing sha256 faster or for finding preimages of sha256 hashes or collisions. Even so, Bitcoin is fairly well protected as the difficulty would just adjust and the double sha256 hash puts an extra step in there which would make any attack more difficult.

Secondly, the only way that quantum computers would mess with Bitcoin is by finding the private key to a public key. However, you can protect against this by not reusing addresses. Since the public key is not revealed until a transaction is spent, any attacker would not be able to find the private key to a public key that is not known until it is revealed in a transaction. By that point, the Bitcoin is spent, and although they could attempt to double spend it, I don't think quantum computers bring that speed down to less than ten minutes. The only issue is if people don't include enough fees and the transaction takes a while to become confirmed. Then there could possibly be possibility of the Bitcoin being stolen.

Lastly, I think the developers would be able to come to consensus on a need to hard fork Bitcoin to quantum resistant algorithms should there be need. In fact, they probably will deploy quantum resistant cryptography before quantum computers become advanced and cheap enough to be used by attackers for attacking Bitcoin. Quantum computers will take several years to become commonplace and by that point, I think everyone could come to consensus to upgrade.
6819  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: No outputs on: April 09, 2016, 06:45:01 PM
If you use OP_RETURN I think it will be standard.
OP_RETURN (one per tx) is standard output
tx example:
https://blockchain.info/tx/8ddc09e3986cb6e267d35e814c3e0fb05d68dd08a560fa18759ef58b2a72ef44

Thanks amalcin.  That is a very good example of what I am talking about.
But could you ever get an transaction accepted with , "out":[], "lock_time";0,....  ?
No.
6820  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: No outputs on: April 09, 2016, 05:25:25 PM
No. You cannot have no outputs, however you can have an output with a zero amount so that all the Bitcoin still goes to fees.

Is such a tx "standard"?

(i.e. would normal nodes propagate it?)

If you use OP_RETURN I think it will be standard.
