6801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can blockchain ever be environmentally friendly on: July 12, 2018, 05:27:30 AM
"I’m sure most of you have seen the news about Bitcoin’s energy consumption. For instance, in Iceland, more energy is used to mine Bitcoin than to power people’s homes and per day the global Bitcoin network now consumes more energy than Ireland. Hence, we chose to build on the Stellar network as it is the most environmentally friendly blockchain available. For comparison, a transaction on the Stellar network only uses 0.03 Wh whereas VISA uses 1.69 Wh per transaction. Clearly, the Stellar blockchain is the perfect technology partner for our platform."

Stellar and Visa can save energy because they are centralized services, nowadays, we have a proof-of-stake solution to make Blockchain more environmentally friendly without the need to become centralized

Can you explain what is "proof-of-stake"?I`ve never understood those proof-of-work or proof-of-whatever type of terms, when it comes to blockchain technology.I`m not very tech savvy nad I don`t want to go further and understand how every blockchain works.
Why do people always focus on energy consumption? It`s not about the consumption. It`s about the method of producing electricity. We need more green energy technologies.
6802  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where/how can I begin to lend out bitcoin safely on: July 11, 2018, 11:44:32 AM
Greetings,

I am interested in lending out btc for the sole purpose of earning a nice return over a SHORT period of time. How can this be done, and please explain in layman terms. If possible, list some legit sites...I hope to hear from you fairly soon.

There`s no way to "safely" lend out bitcoin. All the bitcoin lending platforms like BTCjam are a complete failure.
You can open a lending thread in the "Lending" sub-forum here, but you will have to offer only really small loans and you have to require a good collateral, that is valuable for the guy,who wants a btc loan(usually some wallet full with altcoins).

6803  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daily trading or Holding Cryptocurrency for long time on: July 11, 2018, 11:39:22 AM
You can`t compare day trading with holding. It`s like comparing apples with bananas.
If you don`t have any trading skills and knowledge and you don`t want to take more risk, obviously you have to choose holding. If you have trading skills and you can afford to lose some money, but get profits in the end then day trading is the right choice.
6804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: banks investment and the crypto world on: July 11, 2018, 11:30:57 AM
1.79 billion USD is a ridiculously small amount. We can`t make conclusions that banks want to invest in crypto based on that amount.Banks don`t have any "urgent function" for the economic stability. The bankers only want us to believe that banks have such function.
6805  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy $20k when bitcoin falls to $1? on: July 11, 2018, 06:26:02 AM
You should replace bitcoin with every other altcoin, because bitcoin will never fall to $1.
A 1 dollar btc market price would mean close to zero demand for bitcoins.I don`t see this coming.Lots of people still want to invest in btc for HODLing purposes or even for gambling(this is not an investment Grin ).
The blockchain will evolve, transactions will become faster, cheaper and more convenient, which will bring even more people to buy btc.
6806  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think Jeff Bezos will beocme a trillionaire? on: July 11, 2018, 06:20:04 AM
Amazon exists and thrives only because of Aliexpress and all the other Chinese dropshippers and wholesale companies.Anyway, they are doing a good job diversifying their business and not relying only on retail sales.
I kinda like amazon web services and Kindle, but a don`t buy stuff from the amazon marketplace.
No,Jeff Bezos will never become a trillionaire.Nobody can become a trillionaire.
6807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin As Paper Notes Useful? thoughts? on: July 11, 2018, 06:14:46 AM
If the bitcoin price was more stable, paper notes would have been a great way to adopt bitcoin in third world countries, that don`t have stable national currencies and most of the population don`t have electricity and computers.Anyway, the btc volatility ruins that idea.
6808  Economy / Economics / Re: stupidity is so close to poverty on: July 10, 2018, 12:00:26 PM
stupidity is so close to poverty, do you agree with such a phrase?
if it yes, means the poor are the fools.
I want to know your opinion.  Grin Grin

It`s not exactly stupidity. Not all poor people are stupid. It`s the combitation of being lazy+procrastination+lack of education/knowledge+not enough concentration and discipline+finding too many excuses for everything in your life and blaming everyone else for your misery.
Some rich people are kinda stupid, but they work hard, have discipline and stay focused.
6809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you actually use Bitcoin? on: July 10, 2018, 11:48:12 AM
I don`t use bitcoin, because I can`t use it for something other than trading.
I can`t buy food or pay the bills with btc in my country.Bitcoin can be used for gambling, but I don`t gamble.
The main problem with bitcoin adoption is that women don`t use it.When more women start using btc, more online merchants will accept btc payments.
6810  Economy / Speculation / Re: how would a bitcoin technical hiccup play out these days? on: July 10, 2018, 05:49:14 AM
Are you talking about a Hard fork?
Well, bitcoin survived all the hard forks and I think that hard forks can even help for BTC price growth, because lots of btc HODLers would want some forked "bitcoins" for free, so they can dump them and get some easy profits. That`s why people start to buy btc before the fork.
I don`t see how "a possible fatal glitch"  can be uncovered. The blockchain is running without any issues.
6811  Economy / Economics / Re: Stop IMMO: What do experts think about bankers invading the crypto space? on: July 10, 2018, 05:43:33 AM
I don`t understand the whole idea.Is it about creating a cryptocurrency backed by mortgages?
We already have mortgage obligations(I don`t know is this the name they call them). And the banks sell them all the time. How can a cryptocurrency replace those obligations?Perhaps the bankers just want to create some kind of an "investment" product and offer it to the crypto investors, because they know that the crypto investors like higher risk.
6812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If money/resources were not a factor, how would YOU promote mainstream adoption? on: July 10, 2018, 05:37:43 AM
I've been a long time prowler on this site, so I know there are a lot of smart people here. I want to know, what would you do to bring more adoption of cryptocurrencies to the general public?

I'll kick it off. Once my store takes off, I would like to put myself into a position to organize a Blockchain-themed music festival. Target the more active youth, you know? I would have a "bazaar" area with trendy brands that strictly accept cryptocurrency, and kiosks with representatives from exciting new Blockchain projects to spread awareness.

The young people usually don`t have savings,so they can`t invest that much into cryptocurrencies.
Most of the young people have student debt and credit cards,so they might want to invest a little amount into bitcoin and HODL,waiting for btc to skyrocket.Anyway,I think that nowadays social media is huge and I would hire a bunch of social media influencers to promote crypto to their followers.
6813  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Prices Fluctuating forever with cryptocurrency ? on: July 08, 2018, 07:16:05 AM
The bitcoin price volatility will be reduced, when all the HODLers stop HODLing and start selling their bitcoins.
The btc supply will increase, the btc price might go down for a few months, but the volatility will be reduced for sure. All the btc outside of the markets create the volatility we all know. The overall crypto volatility will be reduced, when more altcoin traders start buying altcoins that don`t have  total supply limits, such as ethereum and ripple.
6814  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is now the turnaround point? on: July 08, 2018, 07:11:51 AM
I wouldn`t bother about that.Just stop waiting every day for the next big bull run.
Everything will be all right in the end.It doesn`t matter if the support level is 6000 or 6800 USD.
Bitcoin will triple it`s value for sure. The regulation/ban storm is over and we are waiting for the crypto whales to start buying again. This will happen after 6 months.
6815  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC interest rate on: July 08, 2018, 07:07:42 AM
Has anyone ever analyzed the actual interest rates of the BTC economy? Because BTC is long-term-deflationary, you'd expect interest rates to be very high, but I don't know of any actual analysis. For example, it'd be interesting for someone to analyze the threads in the Lending section to produce some interest-rate charts.

I`m still not sure about something. Is there such a thing called "bitcoin economy".Bitcoin is more like a financial asset,I don`t see many sellers accepting bitcoin payments for goods and services. The cryptocurrency markets are not an economy, they just don`t create any value in the form of new goods and services.
Interest rates are usually high because of the risk of inflation, not deflation.
I think that bitcoin isn`t very "loan-friendly" currency.Volatile, irreversible transactions and pseudoanonymousy.
By the way,wow the owner of bitcointalk posts topics?!?I wasn`t expecting this. Grin
6816  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How Many Cryptocurrencies Are Simply Following the Market? on: July 07, 2018, 11:47:58 AM
Everybody knows that all the altcoins(probably without ethereum) are just following bitcoin(or as you say "the market").I think that some big price dump that is washing away all the useless altcoins is actually something good for the crypto world.By the way,why your post is copy pasted two times?
6817  Economy / Economics / Re: Uganda Bans VPNs To Prevent Users From Dodging Its Absurd New Social Media Tax on: July 07, 2018, 11:22:05 AM
I don`t know who is the Uganda dictator (or maybe it`s a democratic government),but this is a pretty interesting idea.I really hate social media, but I have to use it,because everyone else is using it,it just wastes
my time and I don`t get any sufficient benefit from it.What if social media isn`t free anymore? This might improve the quality of content posted on social media platform.Who knows?
6818  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: if you want to learn how to trade then start NOW on: July 07, 2018, 05:59:37 AM
I guess that you don`t make difference between trading and HODLing.
The newbies are usually not very patient and they want profit ASAP.This forces them to make wrong trading decisions. They sell at the wrong time,or they buy at the wrong time.
Gaining knowledge about trading is a completely different topic.People are late,if they want to start learning know.Time is the most valuable asset.
6819  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Economy Grow Forever? on: July 07, 2018, 05:49:28 AM
The resources on the planet Earth are limited, but most of them can be recycled. The global economy can grow forever, but only if the input/putput efficiency increases and more and more resources are getting recycled and re-used.The third world countries will have to reduce their population growth and adopt more industrial technologies.
6820  Economy / Economics / Re: Now I believe cryptocurrency may change the financial condition on: July 06, 2018, 11:37:47 AM
Great job.You can inspire other people here to work harder and achieve their dreams.
What cryptocurrency are you working with? Are you trading multiple cryptocurrencies or you are running an online business accepting cryptocurrency payments for goods and services?
