6821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin domain name land grab is on on: April 19, 2011, 02:28:44 PM
I will sell bitcoinbank.com if anybody is interested.

I'd only be interested in bitcoin-bank.com
Registered bitcoins-bank.com and a couple of others, also planning on actually opening a bank there.

You should only use hifens on domain names when they are really needed or the domain without the hifen is gone.

You would be surprised on the number of visitors who won't remember the hifen, altho it makes it easier to read the domain.
6822  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [PHP] BitLuck Lottery Script - Released under LGPLv3.0 on: April 19, 2011, 02:20:30 PM
Well, if you don't mind i'll give it a chance.
Just need to find a nice domain for it and give it a warm fuzzy look  Tongue

Thanks a lot!
6823  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Poker/Casino Programming on: April 19, 2011, 01:23:13 AM
PHP is server side scripting.  CLI (command line interface) is just the ability to run it from the command line.  You could use this to run a console client, but again it falls on having the user install software (they at least need the php client) + run the script on their local machine.  If I choose to encrypt the client code, then they'd have to trust me.

PHP CLI is mostly just for running offline scripts (like perl or bash).  Most people use the PHP apache module.  I'd be running the PHP-FPM and fastcgi on nginx.

Also, I doubt most people would have any interest in playing with a command line poker client. <--WTF

By your confused words i can see that you, even being a programmer, know less about php than I do...  Roll Eyes
Choose another language! It's for the best... Grin

But yes, you are right, no php/ajax for desktop clients. Use it for the website only, if you can't find something better, ofcourse Wink
6824  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Poker/Casino Programming on: April 18, 2011, 11:07:46 AM

Yes, i understood you, but i think that for what you are looking for you should use php-cli instead of cgi because cli mode doesn't create so much overhead with http headers, etc...

Sorry if you misunderstood what i meant to say. I'm no expert in this, in fact i'm not even a programmer, I'm just a curious guy, nothing more.
6825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mystery miner at it again? on: April 18, 2011, 10:57:18 AM
What that box got? A dual cpu (amd opteron perhaps) with boatload of RAM? I don't think a group of those servers can compare to the power of even a humble 5770.

Well, read the full article, http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10209580-92.html

They really have a LOT of them...

But that being said, you all must know, and Google themselves admited it, their service was made to work on cheap hardware, that's right CHEAP hardware... and that's what they have.
Cheap hardware, but lots and lots of it...  Grin
6826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mystery miner at it again? on: April 18, 2011, 10:42:34 AM
It's Google doing trial runs of Bitcoin mining. They do it for a while and then shut it down, refine their setup and start it back up again.

Are you serious?

Think about it. Google is the biggest company that backs free, open software and culture. Google also happens to more servers than Intel, Rackspace, Microsoft and Amazon combined.

If Google wants to use Bitcoin for adsense or whatever they'd need a large supply to fund it. Buying Bitcoin in the mass quantities that Google would need is currently impossible, but since they have many servers to work with it's easier for them to mine it themselves.

Once they have their supply, they'll announce their involvement. They can't announce it early because the news that Google is working with Bitcoin would cause the the value of Bitcoin to rise dramatically. If they play their cards rights, they can mine whatever amount they need and when they announce it that amount will be worth 1, 5, 10, 100 or whatever times as much.

But mostly I'm just rumour mongering  Cheesy

Although who else would have the resources to drop that much power into the network at random?

Would they be using THIS server architecture to mine? Cause that's all they have in their container DC's...
6827  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Windows Phone 7 Bitcoin Client [100 BTC] on: April 18, 2011, 12:32:37 AM
Wow, no response at all on this one eh? Hmmm. Is WIndows Phone 7 a particularly difficult target system?

-MarkM-

Window Phone 7 is a dying platform.

Was it ever truly born besides in the hands of M$ execs?
6828  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Poker/Casino Programming on: April 18, 2011, 12:24:01 AM
Well, you learn something new everyday.  PHP does have some UDP functionality, although because it's a server side scripting language, I'd still have to figure out a way to have the client's requests not go through the standard http overhead.

are you talking about php-cli? http://www.php-cli.com/php-cli-cgi.shtml
6829  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Stealthcoin on: April 17, 2011, 11:51:13 PM
Can i use your code to setup a PPI campaign? Cheesy

EDIT: This thing trips all kinds of alarms on the antivirus   Roll Eyes

EDIT II : Just don't give the process/service names that are used by windows processes and the av stops complainting Cheesy
6830  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Website and software translations on: April 17, 2011, 10:36:58 PM
You guys need a pt_PT translator for the project?

I have experience translating and I do it in some other projects, like Piwigo and Ubuntu.

Would be my pleasure to translate the main website and the bitcoin client.

Cheers

I can't offer you solutions, but i can offer the best spam bot to test against the faucet, but i tell you in advance that using external accounts to give away coins will be hard to stop the dudes. The same bot can make thousands of accounts in any site, decapthing solution included...

I can tell you some things that stops most bots: javascript/ajax or flash stuff...

Hope i helped in some way. And if you need help to test your anti-fraud measures I won't mind to spend some hours trying to bypass them.  Smiley
6832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It happened! (TIME/tech) on: April 17, 2011, 07:19:37 PM
There is no rule regarding transactions fees, except for offer and demand.

I would swear I saw rules regarding tx fee's someplace, possibly even talking about values, kinda BTC 0,01 per KB(or Kb, not sure) of tx size if i'm not mistaken.

But don't go by my word, just a newbie here.  Wink
6833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It happened! (TIME/tech) on: April 17, 2011, 06:20:01 PM
"transactions _can_ be free, but if the amount is small and the transaction's inputs are not old, you might have to pay a small fee to get it through fast enough" just doesn't cut it marketing-wise Sad

If someone could come up with a nice way to put it without being inaccurate I would be happy.

"Transactions can be free, but you can also pay a small Priority fee."

Better now?
6834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: April 17, 2011, 02:20:27 AM
(Oh but we are chasing bad guys playing poker online, trading goldbits and smoking weed on their couches ... whatta a load of BS).

nobody's chasing me...  Huh

or weren't you talking about me, cause the description sure fits well  Wink
6835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: April 17, 2011, 01:52:18 AM
Ok. Who is the owner of this website? How things are going? Someone HAS to know him.

Who purchased bitcoin.org?
