6821  Economy / Economics / Re: INDIA: Draft Law Proposes 10-year Jail Term for Dealing in Cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2019, 06:23:23 PM
I spoke about this bill to my friends in India and they said it’s only a draft and the actual bill may not be so harsh, also they informed me that there’re many cases yet going on in Indian courts regarding the approval of bitcoins. Indian government aim of launching it’s own crypto shall be a waste of their resources, as no one will buy their centralised crypto. In my opinion Indian government should look at Japan’s model regarding bitcoin, and implement the same in their country.

You are partially correct. The final bill is likely to be a toned down one. If they make the bill too harsh, there will be some public outcry and it will be challenged in the courts. And moreover, it will be almost impossible to implement these harsh measures in a country with millions of people who use cryptocurrencies such as BTC and ETH.
6822  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Cricket World Cup - Discussion & Analysis on: June 10, 2019, 06:14:25 PM
My picks for semi-finals:

1. England
2. India
3. Australia
4. West Indies/Pakistan (this slot will probably be filled up by the team having a better run rate)

Very surprising that you have picked West Indies and Pakistan ahead of New Zealand. Just check the points table, and you'll find NZ on the top of the table with 6 points from 3 matches. I have a feeling that NZ can be the dark horses this time. Everyone has a tendency to take them lightly, probably because they don't have heavyweights such as Virat or Warner.
6823  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services) on: June 10, 2019, 06:09:20 PM
yea I'm hoping against hope too - if anybody from the original btc-e team was involved I'd expect them to have a strong moral compass - those guys went against the Feds to at least try and bring back wex.nz. Hoping someone with a conscience from the team comes across these posts !

We should have withdrawn our coins when they set up Wex.nz. Can't blame these guys too much. After the feds seized BTC-e, they showed outstanding courage to set up Wex. They could have easily vanished, but they still reimbursed most of the funds and activated trading in Wex. I don't know what happened in the end, but I guess the feds won the game.
6824  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Are You Afraid of KYC? on: June 10, 2019, 06:01:47 PM
Another problem here is even in bounty campaigns participants are being asked for KYC and they will not be able to get paid if they don't do the KYC process. This is ridiculous, because if you think of how much bounty participants are getting in every campaign compared to investors, they are just getting peanuts for their effort and yet they still have to risk their identities.

If the bounty manager specifies that requirement in the beginning, then it is fine with me. We can just skip the bounty campaign, or ask someone else to do the KYC for us in return for a small reward. On the other hand, if the requirement is made just before the payout, then I would call it as cheating. And it happens so often here, in order to deny the payments to the campaign participants.
6825  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-04] Apple Embraces Bitcoin on: June 10, 2019, 05:58:43 PM
A whole article dedicated to a simple Bitcoin symbol.  Roll Eyes

It has nothing to do with Apple embracing Bitcoin. It's called progress. They pick up on anything they think might be of interest to people using their products and include that in their symbol set. They have been adding new symbols for years now, so nothing special.

The only 'good' thing about this is that the mainstream media attention for something so irrelevant makes Bitcoin at least gain some exposure.

It has become the new normal here. Fake news left, right and center. Apple decided to allow the Bitcoin symbol and we have a topic named "Apple embraces Bitcoin". From what I have seen, Apple has remained fiercely hostile to Bitcoin from the very beginning. They have refused to allow Bitcoin wallets on iPhones. On the other hand, Samsung have been much more crypto-friendly.
6826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does your country knows about cock fighting betting? on: June 10, 2019, 05:26:57 PM
first of all, I live in India and I have never seen any casino because casinos are banned all over India except goa. anyway yes, cockfighting is very common in India (not have seen it personally) but it is so famous that it is even shown in some movies like the movie LUCK from India. never tried it but will try it if got any chance.

Cock fighting is not that popular in India nowadays, but there are a few rural areas where it is still practiced. I am residing in the state of Tripura, and cock fighting is one of the rural pass-times. It is banned by law, but I have never heard of anyone getting caught by the local cops for either organizing a fight, or for taking part in a bet.
6827  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CWC2019 Prediction Pool - Win x BTC [Additional prize in every round] on: June 10, 2019, 05:25:13 PM
^^^ South Africa should blame the management. Ever since they introduced the 55% non-white quota in the senior team, a lot of the white players have decided to move to other countries such as England and New Zealand. The latest player to dump South Africa is Colin Ackermann, who announced last week that he'll be representing the Netherlands side from now on. Netherlands already have lot of South African born players, such as Roelof van der Merwe, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Stefan Myburgh.

For today's game I'm backing a win for the Windies (1.69) especially with two big wickets falling for SA early on. Can't believe Amla has only got 25 runs from 3 games so far  Shocked

Ronnie @ Cloudbet

Wow! So I guess I will get 20 free spins!! Many thanks Cloudbet.

Very disappointed that today's match got washed out. I had predicted a victory for West Indies and they were on course for a win. But we can't so anything when rain makes it impossible for the match to get completed.
6829  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-07] India Proposes 10-Yr Jail For Crypto Use, May Introduce own crypto on: June 08, 2019, 01:58:12 PM
I have seen various Indian people on social media say that they aren't aware of this news at all. They're either not following the right local news sources, or this whole story is bogus meant to drag the price down. We have seen various fake news attempts already to manipulate the price and it wouldn't suprise me if this fits in that category too.

Considering that the smart money isn't reacting to this I would say this story is bogus, or the market doesn't care about India, which would be a good outcome in case it turns out to be true. Time will tell.

There are two reasons why I believe that this news story is not fake. A few years back, RBI was quite serious about banning Bitcoin. At that point of time, some of the governmental advisers were in favor of this move and some others were opposed to it. Those who were opposed to it ultimately gained the upper hand and convinced the then RBI governor (Urjit Patel) that a ban can't be implemented. But even after that, there have been constant calls from the first camp to revise the policy.

Secondly, this news has appeared in some of the most reliable mainstream media outlets, such as Bloomberg and Money control (the latter is the number one financial website in India).

So guys that's English lower middle order for you Cheesy so called tailenders comes and builts 45 runs partnership on only 17 balls. lol

That was quite unexpected. Liam Plunkett smashed the hapless Bangladeshi bowlers all around the park, to finish with a strike rate of 300. Now let's see how the Bangladeshi batsmen perform against Archer & co.

Very different story at Taunton. Afghanistan struggling with just 71 on the board for the loss of 4 wickets after 15 overs. And the most surprising thing is that it was the part-time bowler James Neesham who managed to break their backbone with three wickets.
6831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Prediction Pool [Join FREE win x BTC] on: June 08, 2019, 01:03:33 PM
Buttler and Morgan gone and with 18 balls remaining 375 looks like a decent target. They need to score 34 more from 3 overs. Ben Stokes is definitely capable of making some huge hits, but I am not that sure about Chris Woakes. One more wicket and the tail will start with Jofra Archer.. so the English batsmen may not have as much freedom as they would like.

Edit: Ben Stokes gone.

Very interesting piece of news from EspnCricinfo:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/26924048/japan-qualify-2020-u-19-world-cup-papua-new-guinea-forfeiture

For the first time in history, the Japanese U-19 cricket team has qualified for the 2020 U19 World Cup. But their qualification came amid unexpected circumstances. PNG forfeited their match against Japan, after 11 players were suspended for indiscipline. This is the first time that a Japanese team of any age format qualifying for a major ICC event. Previously their most notable success was the bronze medal won by the women's team, during the 2010 Asian Games.

6833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: June 08, 2019, 12:50:43 PM
Since the odds have changed, I think betting in favor of Keith Thurman is a very good option now. I have no doubt that Manny Pacquiao is a legend. But as far as the current form is considered, Thurman is far ahead of Pacquiao. Any odd less than 2.00 would be unfairly favoring Pacquiao. Anyway, still more than a month to go, and let's see how the odds end up.
6834  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Cricket World Cup - Discussion & Analysis on: June 08, 2019, 12:43:08 PM
No interest for the New Zealand vs Afghanistan match? Perhaps everyone is expecting this match to be one-sided in favor of NZ. But I think Afghanistan will be able to give good fight today. They are batting first, and have scored 18 without loss after 3 overs (the in form bowler Matt Henry went for 12 off his first over). Any score above 300 will be competitive at Taunton.
6835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Prediction Pool [Join FREE win x BTC] on: June 08, 2019, 12:38:04 PM
England are 298/3 after 42 overs. How much more they can make in another 8 overs? Can they get to 400? It may require 102 runs from 48 balls, which is difficult but not impossible (going by the current trends). Buttler seems to be in great form, but Eoin Morgan is lagging behind in scoring rate. I expect ENG to score somewhere between 375 and 400.
6836  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-07] India Proposes 10-Yr Jail For Crypto Use, May Introduce own crypto on: June 08, 2019, 12:34:19 PM
But voting for another party is hardly going to bring any change. As far as I know, none of the political parties have supported the idea of legalizing Bitcoin in India. Also, Bitcoin users are not an important voting bloc in India.

I've already asked a question about the existence of political alternatives, and if there is no real one, then people in India who want changes should take action in this matter. Is it possible that there are no young and educated people to launch a party that would be friendly toward cryptocurrency?

The vast majority of the Indian population lives in urban slums and rural areas and most of them are ignorant about cryptocurrency. If the government labels Bitcoin as a currency of criminals and tax evaders, then these people will believe the government version without any reservation.

And secondly, I am not sure about the number of active Bitcoin users in India. A conservative estimate would be around 1 million. Out of that, the serious users may number around 100,000. Among this subgroup, I expect at least 80% to fall in line with the government directive and quit the cryptocurrency market. And what we can do with the remaining 20,000 individuals, in a country of 1.4 billion people?
6837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! Third world nation bans BTC. 10 years in jail for holding crypto on: June 08, 2019, 12:29:00 PM
Each country has its own view on cryptocurrencies and their lawmakers' views may be different but the decision to sign the law is still in the of head of state. If the head of state did not like the proposed bill to be enacted, he will not sign it and if he/she signs it, the cryptocurrencies will find their way to the underground exchanges. Since the cryptocurrencies existed only in the web, people will always find ways to buy and sell virtual currencies even there is law that restrict them.

The political system in India is different. The effective head of the state is the Prime Minister, who is a part of the ruling party. The president has only nominal powers and he is also a member of the NDA (ruling alliance whose members proposed the measure to ban Bitcoin). The proposed bill in all probability will be passed in both the houses of the parliament, and then signed by the president. It may face legal challenges in the top most court, but I am not very optimistic about this scenario. The mindset of the supreme court judges in India is not very different from that of the lawmakers.
6838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reason we need cryptocurrencies on: June 08, 2019, 12:25:43 PM
Cryptos offers freedom in controlling your own money and assets without relying to any banks and third parties, it is already given to all of us by cryptos, but for me personally,  cryptos gave me opportunity to earn money by doing campaigns and other things it offers.

Perhaps that is what making the governments uneasy about Bitcoin. Since it gives us financial freedom and it ends the dependence on the bankers, the government can no longer seize the money from its citizens. Look at what happened in Cyprus. The government simply robbed everyone, by raiding the savings accounts of the residents. If we keep our money in the form of BTC, how can they do this?
6839  Economy / Economics / Re: Why everyone learn from Warren Buffett? on: June 07, 2019, 06:18:29 PM
Warren Buffet made his fortune a few decades back. If he use the same strategy now, then he will end up as a pauper. Buffet have been very hostile to the idea of crypto-currency. Not just that, I have noticed his lack of interest in anything linked to modern innovation. He still want to live in the 1970s and 1980s. And unfortunately a lot of guys still respect him for that.
6840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Halving: Hype to Speculate? on: June 07, 2019, 06:14:55 PM
I think that the impact halving can have on the prices is over-hyped. Right now, approx. 1,800 coins are being mined per day. After the block reward halving, this will get reduced to around 900 coins per day. But even the current mining volume represents just about 0.1% of the daily transaction volume. I don't think that the prices will get impacted by a reduction of 0.1% of coins.
