Take note it's invalid not because 4th character is "3" since "3" is valid representation of witness version.
Are you sure that's not the reason? The source explains that it's invalid because of an invalid witness version.

Here is the quote for the entire line where that address is shown:

6842  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ledger Card Honeypot on: December 10, 2021, 02:04:05 PM
I've never used a crypto debit card, but I don't see how anyone (at least in the US or any country with strict banking laws) could use one without going through some kind of KYC process.  The government just wouldn't allow it, and Ledger sure as hell isn't going to run afoul of any government's regulations.
No, that won't happen. They have not mentioned anything about KYC in their announcement for the upcoming service, so someone might get the wrong impression that since they don't need to undergo KYC to use their hardware wallet or Ledger Live, the same will apply to the debit card. It won't.

We can see from the limited list of supported countries that they will try it out in well-organized western nations and the EU. If they wanted chaos, they could test it in the Balkans, Nigeria, or Venezuela.
6843  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Crypto Life Card on: December 10, 2021, 01:50:47 PM
This is not really a topic for hardware wallet section (it's debit card) and I already created a topic about this yesterday in Service Discussion Wink
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5376131.0
I didn't know about your thread. To be honest, I never thought to check in that particular board as I never go there. Since the information is relatively new, I thought no one else made a thread about it yet. I guess I was wrong. I opened it here because it is related to Ledger hardware wallets and the connection that will be made between those wallets > Ledger Live > the debit card. But you are probably right that it's a better fit in a different board. Since your thread is older, I will just lock this one since it makes no sense to have two similar ones, and mine doesn't offer any additional information compared to yours.

I've never been interested in having a crypto debit card, and I sure as hell would not want one linked to a Ledger wallet.
I am keeping the option of acquiring such a card sometime in the future open, but I agree with you that I don't want it to be connected to my hardware wallet.

and along with the fact that bitcoin's volatility is still sky-high there's no way I'd be taking advantage of that particular service.
Bitcoin won't be the only asset it supports. One option could be to convert some BTC to a stablecoin and spend that with the card, for example.

Locking the thread as promised...
6844  Other / Meta / Re: If the signature campaings are removed from the forum, will you stay or leave? on: December 10, 2021, 10:19:40 AM
I haven't seen an alternative to the forum that I really like, so I don't see a reason to leave. I am sure that I would be less active, but you would still see me around regularly. I don't like browsing crypto blogs and websites either so where do I go? There is only one German blog that I visit occasionally and that's it. I really don't like the Twitter/Discord/Telegram atmosphere with memes, lols, and whatnot. I feel like more effort is required to write decent to good posts here than what we have on social media.

Signatures won't be banned because theymos knows that's the start of the end.
6845  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 10, 2021, 09:45:17 AM
Maybe they are indeed dodging that questions and when it comes to actually replacing a device you will have to pay shipping/taxes yourself. We can't know for sure until someone tells us, that has been in that situation.
I think you have to pay those costs yourself initially. But if it's all covered by them, they should refund the user if you show them the proof of how much you paid.

However, I will still not update my Nano X.
The newest firmware upgrade isn't urgent. It doesn't fix a recently discovered vulnerability, so you don't have to worry about it for the time being. it's related to support for Taproot. If that is not something you need to use right now, just wait it out.

6847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do all Native Segwit addresses begin with bc1q? on: December 10, 2021, 09:30:14 AM
It may be interesting to know that anyone can spend the funds in such addresses since we don't have witness version >1 activated yet.
I have also found it interesting that on the link that was shared above, a really short address like "bc1sw50qa3jx3s" is a valid Native Segwit address. I have never seen anything that short. I remember that I generated bech32 addresses that were visibly shorter by several characters in the past, but nothing like that one.
6848  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Crypto Life Card on: December 10, 2021, 09:21:40 AM
Ledger has partnered with Baanx to introduce a crypto debit card called the Crypto Life Card.
Not much information is available at this stage. But, Ledger is planning to link it to Ledger Live and your hardware wallet and enable you to convert your coins into fiat and spend them.

It will also be possible to have a part of or your entire paycheck deposited on the card. It’s not yet available, but those interested can join the waitlist. By referring other users, one can get the card for free if the service is supported in your country. The card will first become available in the UK, France, and Germany sometime in early 2022. After that, it can be obtained in the USA.

More info is available here: https://www.ledger.com/blog/sign-up-now-our-ledger-powered-crypto-life-cl-card-is-coming

PS: They could just use the leaked database dumps to send their customers the cards as a gift. No need to create a waiting list. Grin
6849  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: any other way to delete xrp account from ledger nano s? on: December 10, 2021, 08:57:33 AM
What do you mean that you are trying to retrieve them? Are you trying to send them from your address on your Nano S to somewhere else?
I managed to find this on Ledger's reddit page from last year > https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/it5f4r/bug_report_when_i_send_xrp_held_until_escalated/.
That user reported seeing the same error. However, his XRP was still sent. Can you check your address on a block explorer to see if the transaction was performed despite the error?

One more thing. Are you aware that XRP addresses have a minimum reserve requirement? This reserve was 25 XRP in the past. I think they lowered it to 10 XRP in the meantime. What that means is that those 10 XRP will always have to stay on your address and you can never spend them. They don't belong to you. Ripple says it's a measure against spam.

So if you have 20 XRP on an address, only 10 of those are yours to spend. If that address of yours holds only 10, you wont be able to spend those. It has got nothing to do with Ledger. It's the way the Ripple network was set up.
6850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do all Native Segwit addresses begin with bc1q? on: December 09, 2021, 02:43:49 PM
I haven't seen any of those in the wild.
I don't think you ever will. They are a type of invalid address format for native segwit addresses. You probably couldn't generate such an address by any reputable wallet software.
6851  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Possible Compromised Laptop With Seed in Password Manager? on: December 09, 2021, 02:38:29 PM
I truly hope this is a joke.
I don't think it is.

Every single person told you to not store your mnemonic code / seed of the hardware wallet on your PC.. and you still did that?
I think his seed was already saved in a password manager before he started asking if that is ok to do. He was probably looking for confirmation from someone that it's a good way to protect the seed. But even after multiple people told him it isn't, he felt there was no reason to change anything.

However.. how could you possibly store your mnemonic code on your daily computer? Didn't you listen to everyone talking to you?
If you give Jerry advice, he asks other people if the advice you gave is good. If he gets confirmation that it is, he will tell you that he has decided not to do it the way you told him to.

He has a Nano S? He should just import the paper seed into a fresh Electrum wallet or even BlueWallet on his mobile if he only has that one infected machine; then send all funds to the Ledger & that's it. Coins secured.
Yeah, he has a hardware wallet, but he doesn't always have access to it. Or more precisely to its seed. He has been asking questions about passphrases and how to set one up on Ledger for over 2 years. He never did of course. He can surely send his coins to his Nano S even if he uses a potentially vulnerable computer. But his paranoia levels are extremely high and I don't think he wants to connect it to that potentially infected PC.

@Jerry
What is the problem with the other computer you mentioned that you have? You said it doesn't have Windows. Ledger Live is available for Linux and MAC as well. I am not sure about the other software you are trying to save but you should check it out.
6852  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 09, 2021, 02:16:11 PM
I promised that I would write an update when Ledger support responds to my question so here it is.

I sent them a message yesterday asking if they will refund tax and shipping costs to users who brick their devices following firmware upgrades. The automatic email that my message was delivered and a ticket was created was received at 9:50 CET. After that, it took them only two hours to reply back. I got an email from them at 11:51 CET.

But since they didn't answer all my questions, I sent a second email in the evening asking again about the charges.
I received a reply from the same customer service representative this morning. He told me that if the Nano breaks while it's still under warranty, they will exchange it for free. If the wallet breaks due to a software issue, it will always be exchanged for free. There is an unlimited warranty for software problems according to James. Since a malfunctioning device after a firmware upgrade is surely classified as a software problem, your hardware wallet will be replaced even if the original warranty expired.

To be fair, he again didn't directly answer my question regarding the tax and shipping charges. I can only assume that Ledger covers those as well, but I am missing the needed confirmation from James.

In this particular case, the response time was really good.
I think it's a positive thing that if you brick your HW due to a fault of their own, just contact the support and you will get a replacement for free.
This gave me an idea for another test I am planning to perform with their support staff, but more about that another time.
6853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do all Native Segwit addresses begin with bc1q? on: December 09, 2021, 01:49:17 PM
Must be typo, "6" refer to witness version 26. See table on section Bech32 (https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0173.mediawiki#bech32).
Thanks for the source. If you scroll down towards the bottom, they list several Native Segwit address formats that are valid.

Besides addresses that begin with "bc1p" like LoyceV mentioned above, they can also start with a "bc1z".
One example of an address with an invalid checksum is one that begins with "BC13".
6854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- Group Stage! on: December 09, 2021, 10:33:43 AM
They don't have anything to do with it, in my opinion. prove to Messi c'mon, Messi left this team a few months ago, and whether they qualify or not has no bearing on Messi because his team has already qualified.
I never said that they have to prove anything to Messi. I just said that the motivation could be high to kick their asses despite already securing qualification to the knock-out stages. And they did even though Lewandowski didn't score.

Manchester United ran out in a completely changed lineup. I am glad I waited until I saw the team sheets. After looking at them, my bets went on Bayern and Benfica, and no money was wasted on Manchester United. I am sure they caused havoc for many gamblers last night.
6855  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Do all Native Segwit addresses begin with bc1q? on: December 09, 2021, 10:19:54 AM
We often hear how Native Segwit addresses begin with "bc1", but the 4th character in a Bech32 is also interesting. It is always a "q". At least I though that it was always a "q". If you look up transactions in recent blocks, for example, you will notice that the "q" seems to always be the 4th character (unless it's a Taproot address).

I have three questions:

1. What is the significance of the "q", and why that character?
2. If the "q" is the standard or a must, how do you explain this Binance support article that talks about Segwit addresses? In the screenshot, you can see that the address on Binance begins with "bc16". The info in the article may not be completely correct, but the screenshot is surely not a mistake.
3. Are there Native Segwit addresses that don't begin with "bc1q" (like the one above), or is a mistake of some kind?

I tried scanning the above address with Electrum on my mobile and the app is importing an Ethereum address. It might be possible that they did that on purpose for whatever reason. Maybe to prevent people from sending coins to it and then blaming Binance for their mistakes.
6856  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Possible Compromised Laptop With Seed in Password Manager? on: December 09, 2021, 09:20:37 AM
My issue with this is in order for me to access my software wallet, I need to enter my seed on that computer.  I have my seed on paper but also in my password manager.  Thus me entering my seed into the laptop could compromise it if if already wasn't compromised.
Forget about the password manager if you have that same seed on your computer. You have a Ledger Nano S. Why are your coins not on the Ledger?

Someone recommended me to download kapersky total and scan for virus/malware.  But would that work?  Such that if it finds any malware/trojan or browser hijacking, then it could remove all of it?  And thus I could continue to use my possible compromised laptop as is?
You ask for advice. People give you advice. Then you ask if the given advice is good or if you should do it in a different way. Ultimately, you are probably not going to listen to what people tell you anyway. An anti-virus or anti-malware software is not some magical eraser that undoes your mistakes. It could find and neutralize a malware on your computer, but it is also possible that it doesn't detect it at all. In case of new malware, the software might not have the definitions to classify it as malicious. We don't know what you clicked on and if the site was configured to automatically download and execute some type of malware.

Advice on this?
You have played with fire and now you got burned. You have been told multiple times not to store your seed digitally and you keep finding excuses why that's OK for you.

Your computer might be compromised. If you are lucky, it wasn't. Buying a new computer won't solve the problem that the files you have on your old one are potentially infected. If your coins are your priority, reformat your computer, and start from scratch.

If your coins are gone, they are gone. There is very little you can do about it. Buying a new computer just to restore your wallet will only tell you if they are there or not. What are you going to do with the old one and the data you keep on it?
6857  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Taproot] Taproot is live on Trezor! 🥕 on: December 09, 2021, 08:46:30 AM
Something is wrong with that link that you shared in OP. Clicking on it doesn't take me to the article and I have tried it with multiple browsers. Maybe because it's not "https://". Anyways, try to replace it with this one which works > https://blog.trezor.io/trezor-suite-and-firmware-updates-december-2021-d1e74c3ea283.

It's positive that Trezor has now joined those few brands that already support Taproot.
Just like with all other firmware upgrades for hardware wallets, maybe it's best to wait a few weeks before performing the update just in case something doesn't work like it should.
6858  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Show off your hardware wallet on: December 08, 2021, 11:08:10 AM
Are you implying that the pen-shaped item is a hardware wallet?
I don't think so. I am not aware of any pen-shaped hardware wallets. Looks like a standard pen to me. I think he was trying to say that the best and safest way to store your recovery phrase is by using a pen and paper and not relying on other parties or gadgets, like in the case of hardware wallets.
6859  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- Group Stage! on: December 08, 2021, 10:52:29 AM
I bet on the victories of Atalanta and Benfica in today's matches. In case of victory, Atalanta will secure promotion to the knockout stage of the Champions League. Benfica must win against Dynamo, the weakest team in the group, and expect Barcelona not to win in Munich. Knowing what form Barcelona are in lately, Bayern, even in the reserve squad, may turn out to be too strong a team for them.
I am not so sure about Atalanta. They have this tendency to mess up when you expect them to win and play well when they seem like the underdogs. The Champions League is different from the domestic Serie A and I give a slight edge to Spanish teams compared to those from Italy.

Bayern will play this match without several starters. They will be resting some of their players because they have already qualified and secured the first place. I still think that Lewandowski will be very motivated to show Messi's ex-team what he thinks of Messi's Ballon d'Or win. I also see this as a Bayern win, but I want to wait with my bet until I see the official lineups for the match.

I think that Manchester United is a good choice tonight.
Both Benfica and Dynamo have injury concerns.
